The Witches Guide to Thursday

Today is the day for prosperity work of all kinds. It can also be used for healing work, whether that is a physical healing of an illness or an emotional healing. Also remember that you have to follow up your healing work and prosperity magick and physical action.

I can’t tell you the number of times I have met new witches who complain to me that their prosperity spell or “I need a better job” spell did not work as they expected. They’ll ramble on and on about how much time and money they spent working their magick….but, alas, they had no glorious manifestation of wealth or fabulous job that suddenly dropped out of the sky and landed in their laps.

Then, when I gently ask them, “Did you enchant your resume or application when you filled it out? Did you do a little confidence-boosting spellwork when you went to apply for the job or went to the interview?” typically they give me a blank, confused stare.

Nine times out of ten, their response is, “You mean I have to go out and actually look for the job too?” Um, yes, my dear, you certainly do. Magick follows the path of least resistance, which means it’s going to manifest along the simplest, quickest route. Get out there and hit the pavement. See what you can find. Times are tough and competition for good jobs is fierce, so you need whatever edge you can get. For folks like us, we’re going to get the edge by using our magick and our spellcraft.

Thursdays have such a rich source of magick for us to draw upon that, honestly, the sky is the limit. This is the day associated with the gods of the sky and heavens, after all. Get to know these deities and add their wisdom and magick into your days

On Thursday, August 9, We Honor The Goddess Ereshkigal

Ereshkigal

“Kakka went down the long stairway of heaven.
When he reached the gate of Ereshkigal, he said,
‘Gatekeeper, open the gate to me!’ (Sumerian Myth)

Ereshkigal is the Sumerian and Babylonian Death Goddess. She was the Queen of the Dead and of the Underworld long before she was joined by a male god (and then Nergal managed to become co-ruler of the Underworld only by raping her). Ereshkigal is so terrifying that the Sumerians never described Her in any detail, though the Babylonians said that when She was enraged, Her lips were black and Her face was a livid blue.
Ereshkigal has a palace in the Underworld and is due a visit by those entering. When Inanna, (Goddess of Life, Love and War) trespassed on Her domain by descending into the Underworld, Ereshkigal dealt with Her as She dealt with all newcomers to the Land of the Dead. At each of the gates of the Underworld, Inanna was ordered to remove a piece of jewelry or clothing until She stood before Ereshkigal naked. Ereshkigal then spoke a single word that slew Inanna instantly:

“She spoke against her the word of wrath.
She uttered against her the cry of guilt
She struck her…”
(from “Gilgamesh, Enkidu and the Underworld”)

And then Ereshkigal hung Inanna’s nude corpse up on a stake. The Goddess of Death had swallowed up the Goddess of Life. But having done so, Ereshkigal began to suffer the pains of childbirth. Yet the Goddess of Death could not give birth and so She lingered in misery.
At last, Enki, God of Abzu (the watery abyss and also semen) and Wisdom, grew anxious over Inanna’s failure to return and so created two special beings to go to the Underworld and rescue Her. Being made as sexless neuters, the creatures did not violate the laws of the land of Death. They found Ereshkigal in Her painful and fruitless labor. They sympathized with Her pain, echoing Her cries and complaints. Grateful for their attentions, Ereshkigal offered them any gift they wanted. They asked for no gift but Inanna’s body, still hanging from its stake. The Goddess of Death gave it to them and only then was Inanna restored to life with the Bread of Life and the Water of Life.
As a dark moon Goddess, Ereshkigal represents the devouring of life and its subsequent renewal. She rules over the magickal arts, secret knowledge, and oracles. Her animals are those that live beneath the earth – dragons, serpents and snakes – and those that love the night – owls, ravens, crows, black dogs and black horses.

Ereshkigal: Goddess of the underworld, consort of Nergal. Some consider her a dark side or aspect of Ishtar. When Ishtar descended into he underworld to save Tammuz, Ereshkigal tricked her into leaving some part of her clothing at each of the underworld’s seven gates as she passed thru them. Standing naked at the seventh gate, Ishtar threw herself on Ereshkigal; but like Samson shorn of his hair, she was powerless. Ereshkigal confined Ishtar until the wily Ea contrived her release with a trick.

Erishkigal (Babylon) “Queen of the Underworld” Death. Viewed by some as a demon. Ereshkigal, variously considered Inanna’s sister or sister-in-law, was supreme goddess of the underworld. When angered, Ereshkigal’s face grew livid and her lips grew black. She did not know why Inanna would visit her, but she allowed her in, and then instructed Namtar, her messenger and vizier, the Fate-Cutter, the herald of death, to release his diseases upon Inanna. Ereshkigal had a palace in the underworld and was due a visit by those entering. When Inanna trespassed on her domain, Ereshkigal “…fastened on Inanna the eye of death. She spoke against her the word of wrath. She uttered against her the cry of guilt. She struck her. Inanna was turned into a corpse,…And was hung from a hook on the wall.”

When Nergal, the unsparing god of the underworld, arrived to give Ereshkigal a throne upon which to sit and give judgement, she offered him food, drink, a footbath, and enticed him with her body. Eventually he succumbed and they slept with each other for seven days. Enraged when he wished to leave her, she sent Namtar to heaven to request that the gods send Nergal to her to be punished as one of the few favors she had ever received. If they would not, she threatened to raise the dead who would then eat and outnumber the living. Nergal was brought back. In some versions of the myth, Nergal took control of Namtar’s attendant demons, grabbed Ereshkigal from her throne by the hair, and threatened to decapitate her. In this position she proposed marriage to him. In both versions he accepted, they were married, and he became her consort.

Belit-tseri, the female tablet-scribe, knelt before Ereshkigal and Sumuquan, the cattle god resided in her underworld court. Heroes and priests resided there, as well, and mighty kings served others food. So we can see that Ereshkigal had actual, not referred, power. She ruled death as an equal portion of the span from creation to destruction. She judged and commanded both men and women. She had sexual autonomy and authentic agency. She acknowledged and displayed her rage without apology. She had genuine bargaining power and was able to use it even under extreme duress.

Inanna’s Descent to the Underworld From the temples, Inanna prepared to descend into Kur, the Underworld. She put on the shugarra-crown, the small lapis beads around her neck, the double strand of beads at her breast, her gold bracelet. She put on her royal robe and put ointment on her eyes; she tied her breastplate to her chest and picked up the lapis measuring rod and line. Finally, she called to her servant, Ninshubur. “I am descending to Kur. ‘If I do not return, set up a lamentation for me by the ruins. Beat the drum for me in the assembly places; circle the houses of the gods. Tear at your eyes, at your mouth, at your thighs; dress yourself in a single garment, like a beggar. Go to Nippur, to the temple of Enlil. When you enter his holy shrine, cry out: ‘Oh Father Enlil, do not let your daughter be put to death in the Underworld!”” (Wolkstein & Kramer)….

Ereshkigal is the elder sister of Inanna. She represents the dark, cthonic side of the Eternal Feminine. While she is confined to Attalu, the realm of the dead, her power is felt in all realms. She is a Goddess who will have her due. Humans, men especially, ignore Ereshkigal at their peril. Those who do not know her, or pretend not to, are rootless and foolish.

Ereshkigal rules with her consort Nergal over Attalu and the seven Annunaki, dread judges of the Abyss.

Caves are especially fine places to invoke or commune with Ereshkigal, but any lonely place on a dark moon midnight is suitable.

___

Ereskigal

(Irkalla) Queen of the Underworld, a chthonic goddess whose realm was the depths below the Inner Sea of Abzu. She was recognized as Guardian and Patroness of the Dark City. Together with her consort Nergal she rules this underworld, also called ‘the big land’, from which no-one returns.

One day Nergal was sent to Ereskigal from the heavens, with an offering of food. They proceeded to fall in love, and when Nergal had to leave, she threatened Anu that unless Nergal was send back to her, for ever, as a husband, she would revive the dead and send them back to earth, so that they would outnumber the living. Her minister Namtar had to go to heaven as her messenger, for Ereshkigal felt that she was already pregnant. He successfully relayed the message, for at last Nergal came storming down the stairs, broke down the seven gates and burst into the goddess’ palace straight into her passionate embrace.

Ereshkigal is dark and violent, as befits her role as goddess of the underworld. As ruler over the shades, Ereshkigal receives the mortuary offerings made to the dead. Often praised in hymns, in the Sumerian cosmogony she was carried off to the underworld after the separation of heaven and earth.

ERESHKIGAL: Ereshkigal is the Sumerian mistress of death and ruler of ARALU, the “Land of No Return.” An ancient poem, “Hymn to the Locust-tree,” explains that “Ereshkigal had received the underworld as her share” of creation. It is a dry, dusty place beneath Abzu, the “sweet waters of the underground.” Aralu is a dimension of eternal darkness, a huge communal grave where languishing spirits eat dust and moan in sorrow. Another description from Sumerian myth states:

The pure Ereshkigal herself upon her throne,
The Annunake, the seven judges, pronounced judges, pronounce judgment before her,
They fastened their eyes upon her, they eyes of death.
At their word, the word which tortures the spirit…
The sick woman was turned into a corpse,
The corpse was hung from a stake.

One of the most complex ancient myths about the underworld involves the legend of Inanna (Ishtar in some translations), Ereshkigal’s sister, who makes a disastrous trip to the place of the dead. The beautiful Inanna, determined to shame her sister, decides to travel to the underworld to mock Ereshkigal and her lowly status as ruler of the damned. She dons her most glamorous clothes and finest jewelry and sets out for Aralu. Word quickly spreads to Ereshkigal that her sister is coming, charming everyone in her path.

Ereshkigal becomes jealous and orders her guards to seize a garment from Inanna at each of the seven gates she must pass through on the way to the depths of hell. Inanna does so, arriving naked and enraged at her sister’s throne. A heated argument erupts over the incident, and Ereshkigal has Inanna impaled on a hook, her her body quickly turns green and decays, much to Ereshkigal’s delight. The CHTHONIC deity displays her sister’s withered corpse as a trophy in the halls of Aralu.

Meanwhile, in the upper world, Inanna’s handmaid, who knows of the sisters’ feud, works for Inanna’s release. After intervention from a number of Sumerian deities, Ereshkigal reluctantly agrees to give up her sister’s corpse. The gods revive Inanna with water and the grass of life, but the judges of the dead will not let her leave the underworld until she finds a substitute to take her place in hell. Inanna agrees to send a replacement back to her sister’s kingdom.

A ghastly demon escort sees Inanna back to the land of the living. Upon her return, she discovers that her husband, Dumuzi, rather than mourning her loss, as been celebrating her absence with wine, women, and song. She immediately selects him as her substitute and sends him to Aralu to suffer in her place. Inanna eventually pities Dumuzi’s plight and works out an arrangement with Ereshkigal so that he has to stay in hell for only six months of the year.

Another legend tells how Ereshkigal used her wiles to trick NERGAL, a vain and lecherous warrior god, into taking up residence in the land of the dead. When Nergal ventures to the underworld to meet this legendary queen, Ereshkigal charms him into sharing her bed, knowing that this will seal his doom. After the seduction, the gods refuse to allow him to return to the upper world, so Nergal weds Ereskigal and becomes the king of the dead. Together the couple oversees the souls of those who have departed Aralu.

Ereškigal: Ereškigal, whose name can be translated ‘Queen of the Great Below’, is also known in Akkadian as Allatu. She is the goddess who rules the underworld, mother of the goddess Nungal and, by Enlil, of the god Namtar, who serves as her messenger and minister. Ereškigal’s first husband was the god Gugal-ana, whose name probably originally meant ‘canal inspector of An’ and who may therefore have been identical with Ennugi. In the Sumerian poem ‘Inana’s Descent to the Underworld’, Inana tries to gain entry to the underworld by claiming that she has come to attend the funeral rites of Gugal-ana, the ‘husband of my elder sister Ereškigal’. The son of Ereškigal and Gugal-ana was the god Ninazu. In another tradition, Ereškigal married the god Nergal, as related in the poem ‘Nergal and Ereškigal’.
Ereškigal lived in a palace located at Ganzir, the doorway to the underworld, protected by seven gates, all of which could be bolted and each of which was guarded by a porter.

Today is Thursday, August 9th

Thursday is the day of the planet Jupiter, dedicated to Thunor(Thor), God of thunder and agricultural work. His parallels in various European traditions are Zeus, Taranis, Perun, Perkunas and St. Olaf. The faith of the Northern Tradition holds Thursday sacred, just as Islam reveres Friday, Judaism the Sabbath(calculated from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday), and Christianity, Sunday. This is why almost all adages about Thursday are positive, such as “Thursday’s child has far to go,” “Sneeze on Thursday, something better,” or “Cut nails on Thursday for wealth.” Thursday rules controlled optimism, energetic growth, physical well-being and material success.

goddess

Thursday: When the hammer is smashing up the skies

And we have just arrived to Thursday, named after Thor, the Norse god of thunder. He travels through the heavens in a charriot, wearing a special belt and iron gloves which give him extra strength to lift his giant hammer.

Romance languages based their fifth day’s name upon the Latin Dies Iovis, meaning the Day of Jupiter (jueves in Spanish, jeudi in French, giovedi in Italian). Jupiter was a chief Roman god, the god of laws and social order. His attribute was a thunderbolt.

About our Current Month, August–The Month of Augustus

Greek Goddess Athena

About our Current Month, August–The Month of Augustus

This month is also named after a great Roman emperor, Augustus Caesar, but was first called Sextilis, the sixth month. Augustus, whose full name was Caius Julius Caesar Octavianus–Augustus (the Majestic) being a title given him after he became emperor–was a young man at the time of Caesar’s murder. Julius, who had no son of his own, adopted Augustus as his son and heir, in order that when he died Augustus should become emperor in his place. The nobles who had killed Julius, however, did not wish Augustus to become emperor, and it was not until he had fought and won many battles that he became the head of the Roman Empire. As soon as he had conquered all his enemies, he returned to Rome, and, closing the temple of Janus, proclaimed peace throughout the Empired. During his reign there lived the greatest poets and writers that Rome ever had, of whom the best known are Virgil, Horace, Ovid, and Livy; just as in the rein of our Queen Elizabeth there lived some of England’s greatest poets and writers–in fact the time from Spenser and Sidney in Elizabeth’s reign, passing beyond Shakespeare to Milton in Charles II’s reign, is spoken of as the “Augustan Age” of English Literature.

The month known as Sextilis was chosen as the one to be named after Augustus, because it was during that month that the most fortunate events of his life had happened. In that month he had first become consul, the most important man in Rome; he had three times entered the city in triumph after his great victories; he had conquered Egypt and had ended the civil wars. As the month had only thirty days, and the one named after Julius Caesar had thirty-one, a day was taken from February in order to make them equal.

We have more than once mentioned the poet Virgil’s most famous work, the in which he describes the wanderings of Aeneas, who gathered together all that was left of the Trojan army and escaped from the fallen city, carrying his father Anchises on his back, since he was old and weak and unable to walk. The fugitives reached the shore in safety and sailed away from their ruined country. But the goddess Juno, not satisfied by the death of Paris and the disaster which had fallen on the Trojans, pursued Aeneas and his followers with her hatred, and again and again brought them into misfortune. They wandered from country to country for many years, seeking a spot where they might settle down in peace and safety, but Juno gave them no rest. She brought sickness upon them so that many died, and sent fierce storms which scattered their fleet and destroyed many of their ships. At last they reached a harbour on the coast of Africa, and made their way to a city which they found to be Carthage. Aeneas was welcomed by Dido, the queen of the city, who listened eagerly to the story of his adventures. Now, Aeneas had been destined by the gods to found a new kingdom, when his wanderings finally came to an end, but the time was not yet. The goddess Venus caused Dido to fall in love with Aeneas, and the hero, happy in her love and the pleasant life of her court, lingered on. A year passed, and the gods at length sent Mercury to remind Aeneas of his destiny. Aeneas’ heart sank at the thought of leaving the beautiful Dido, and afraid of her anger, he secretly set sail one dark night while the queen was sleeping. When Dido discovered her loss she was filled with grief. She ordered her servants to make a funeral pyre on which was placed an effigy of her lover, and then setting fire to the pyre with her own hand, she sprang into the flames and perished.

Aeneas and his companions sailed on till they reached the Island of Sicily, where they took refuge from a storm. During a festival which the men then held in honour of Anchises, Aeneas’ father, who had died just a year before, Juno stirred up the women to revolt against their hard life. Tired of their perilous wanderings, they gathered on the shore and set fire to the ships. Aeneas, when he heard of this new disaster, rushed down to the shore, and cried to Jupiter for help. In answer to the prayer, the King of the Gods sent a storm of rain, which put out the destroying flames. The Trojans then left Sicily, and, coming to Italy, to the mouth of the River Tiber, they followed the river until they reached the country of Latium. Here they were well received by the king, Latinus, who offered to Aeneas the hand of his daughter Lavinia. Lavinia, however, had many suitors, the chief of whom was Turnus, the prince of a neighbouring country, and Juno once again interfered by stirring up the people of Latium against Aeneas, with the result that Latinus made war on his former friend. Turnus led the army against the Trojans, and performed great deeds of valour, which were only matched by those of Aeneas. While Juno was assisting Turnus in every possible way, Venus was not forgetful of her son Aeneas, and she obtained from Vulcan, the God of Fire, a wonderful suit of armour, which enabled Aeneas to do even mightier deeds. Turnus and Aeneas at length met in single combat, and, after a fierce encounter, Turnus was killed. Peace was made with Latinus, and Aeneas married Lavinia. He founded a city, which he called Lavinia, and his descendants reigned in Latium for many years. It was one of his race, the Vestal Ilia, who marred Mars and became the mother of Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome.

One of the famous passages in the Aeneid is the description of the shield given to Aeneas by the goddess Venus. On this shield Vulcan, knowing the future, had depicted the history of the descendants of Aeneas, and had foretold the glory of Rome. He showed the wolf nursing the two sons of Mars and Ilia, the wars which followed the founding of Rome, and the brave Horatius, who defended the bridge over the Tiber against the army of Tarquin. With wonderful skill he pictured the sacred geese giving warning to the Romans of the approach of the Gauls in the dead of night. “Manlius stood before the temple and kept the lofty Capitol; a silver goose flitting through arches of gold gave warning with its cries that the Gauls were on the threshold; the Gauls were drawing near through the bushes, and were grasping the Citadel, protected by the darkness and the favour of a gloomy night. Their hair is golden and their dress of gold, their cloaks are striped, their milk-white necks are encircled with bands of gold; each brandishes in his hand two Alpine javelins, and their bodies are protected by their long shields.” In the middle of the shield Vulcan had depicted the famous sea-battle of Actium, in which the Emperor Augustus overthrew his enemies, and finally he showed the emperor seated at the entrance to the Temple of Apollo, and receiving the offerings of the conquered nations of the great Roman Empire.

The Old-English name for August was Hlaf-maesse, that is, Loaf Mass, or Loaf Feast, because during the month was held a feast of thanksgiving for the first fruits of the corn, August being the time when harvesting begins. The first day is sometimes called Lammas Day, lammas being a slightly altered form of the word hlaf-maesse.

Understanding Intuitive Guidance Like a Boss

Understanding Intuitive Guidance Like a Boss

Intuitive guidance can make life much easier.  Intuition is your internal compass; a built-in GPS that can help you navigate through life!  Trusting in this guidance is much easier when you understand what these sixth sensory feelings are for.

What is Intuitive Guidance?

“The only real valuable thing is intuition.”

– Albert Einstein

Good ole’ Alby Einstein.  With the awesome quote above, plus his superb brilliance, it sure seems like he knew a few things about intuition.  I wonder if the two are connected… hmm…

So what exactly IS this magical intuitive goodness? A hunch?  Sixth sense?

Yes and yes!

Intuition is a guidance system that each and every one of ushas.  It is the way in which your soul – also called the Inner Being or Higher Self – communicates with you.

When we were born into these physical bodies, our souls didn’t just say, sayonara, see you on the flip side! Rather our soul, plus our spiritual helpers (Spirit Guides, teachers, angels, etc.) agreed to help support us through life.

It would be excellent if we could just call our Higher Self and Divine helpers on the phone, but since we can’t, they connect and guide us through our intuition.

Intuitive guidance can come to you in lots of different ways, such as:

  • gut feelings
  • that little voice inside
  • a feeling of just knowing something

Intuitive guidance can help with everything from deciding what to wear to deciding if you should move across country.  No job is too big or small for your intuition!

Best of all, once you learn to listen to your intuition, big and little decisions become MUCH easier.  That means:

  • less stress
  • more happiness
  • lots of other good stuff

And because intuition comes from your soul, it always guides you for your best good.  And who can you trust more than you and your spiritual team?

Everyone Has Intuition

Intuitive guidance is natural.  It’s our birthright and we ALL have it, even animals.

Actually, we could learn a lot from our furry friends.  Have you ever noticed how your pet trusts their intuitive guidance?  They lick the face of your bestie, but growl at the new person you’re dating?

That’s because they totally trust the sixth sense “vibes” they get and react immediately.  They don’t think about it or get advice about their senses from their friends.  Hey Fred, it’s Sammy-cat calling. Jess has this new friend. And man, I dunno…

First, that would be hysterical.  Second, Sammy wouldn’t call his friend, Fred.  He’d just hiss and run under the bed.

Animals don’t override their intuition with logic the way we humans do.

Real Life Intuitive Guidance Examples

  • My daughter was having some challenges due to a learning disability.  Since I homeschool, I was starting to feel really stressed. I read everything about what we should be doing to help her, but nothing FELT right.  I had a strong urge that kept telling me, just do what you think is right. Weeks later, a psychologist recommended to me, based on her educational testing, the EXACT books I had started using with EXACT instruction on how I had been using them!
  • My husband was driving home once with some other people from work. Suddenly, he had a strong urge to buckle up and told the other passengers to buckle up quick.  Minutes later, they were in a serious accident. I believe that intuitive message saved their lives. (And I gave him a piece of my mind about not being buckled up in the first place!)

Intuitive guidance doesn’t have to be super dramatic. You can receive and ask for guidance on anything. With practice, you’ll learn to trust and rely on your intuition as much as Batman relies on Robin.

Psychic Ability vs. Intuition

Many people use the terms psychic and intuition interchangeably.  I swap the words sometimes, too.  But since we’re talking about intuitive guidance today, I thought it was important to mention this quick point:

  • Psychic ability is the ability to tap into the unseen world around us; the ability to perceive subtle energies, auras, Spirit energy, etc.  Everyone has intuition, but not everyone is psychic. That said, pretty much anyone can develop at least some degree of psychic ability.  Why not?  We’re all spiritual beings.

Bottom line:  Use the KISS philosophy – Keep It Super Simple.  Enjoy intuitive guidance and have fun with it. That’s more important than anything else. You’ll understand it more as you practice using it.

How to Get Intuitive Guidance

Many people forget that they are spiritual beings. They are present in their physical lives but forget about their sixth sensory feelings. That’s about as sad as eating a cupcake with no frosting.

But since you’re here, reading this post, I’m pretty sure that you realize that you are a spiritual being first and foremost 🙂

All we need to do now is tune you up a bit so that you can start using intuitive guidance.

1. Ask

Sounds simple, doesn’t it?  Honestly, you’d be surprised how many people wonder why they aren’t getting any intuitive guidance, but never asked for any.

Start making a habit of asking for help with anything and everything, and see what kinds of feelings or signs you get.

2. Raise Your Vibration

Raising your vibration helps you feel more joyful and connected to the essence of who you really are.  It’s pretty easy to do!  Anything that makes you feel happy raises your vibration:  Music, art, dancing, relaxing on a beach, woodworking, etc.

3. Meditate

Meditation also raises your vibration and quiets your mind.  The great thing about meditation is it trains your mind to quiet down a bit so that you can hear the intuitive guidance being given to you.

It’s hard to hear your Authentic Self and spiritual team when your mind is full of ego-based thoughts. Meditation pushes all those thoughts aside and allows room for spirit.

How to master intuitive guidance

Do you think if you made gluten-free French toast every day for a year you’d get pretty good at it?  I’d say you’d be a ding-dong great gluten-free French toast maker!

Do you think if you started practicing receiving intuitive guidance every day for a year, you’d get good at it?  I definitely think so!

Don’t get frustrated when you first start asking for intuitive guidance. Like Dory did in Finding Nemo, just keep swimming.  You might feel like you are muddling around at first.  But in time, the guidance will become easier and clearer.

Where Does Intuition Come From?

Where Does Intuition Come From?

Where does intuition come from?  Exactly where does all of this sixth sense goodness come from? More importantlyhow do you know you can trust it… and how can you get more intuitive guidance?

Today, let’s explore the fascinating answers, which I promise, is going to knock your socks off and be super eye-opening.

Have You Ever Had a Hunch?

At some point in your life, you’ve probably had a gut feelinga hunch, felt inspired, or just knew something. That was your intuition guiding you.

Intuition is the way that the non-physical part of you – your soul (also known as your Higher Self) – communicates with you.

Best yet… your soul can guide you in every way. It can help you with huge decisions and “big stuff”, and everyday “small stuff”. It’s like a GPS and Dear Abby all rolled into one!

Have you ever said to yourself:

  • Something told me to do (or not do) it!
  • I just knew that I had to do that!
  • Something stopped me from (taking a certain action that would have led to danger).

That something was your intuition 🙂

Tip:  While many people associate sudden, strong intuitive feelings with keeping them out of danger, the truth is that intuition can be beautiful and magnificent and help us with all sorts of everyday things such as:

  • What to buy your niece for her birthday.
  • The school that would be most beneficial for your kids.
  • The color you should paint your living room.

But where does intuition come from?  Let’s find out:

Where Does Intuition Come From?

Soooo, where does intuition come from? It actually comes from a couple of sources:

  • Your Higher Self(remember, that’s another name for the soul)
  • Your Spirit Guides

Everyone has a Higher Self and a spiritual team that includes Spirit Guides, therefore:

Everyone has intuition… you, me, Selena Gomez, and the kid that bags your groceries at the market.

When your intuition is guiding you, you may:

  • Intuitively know what your child needs before his teacher or doctor tells you.
  • Have a feeling that this is the wrong time to buy a new car, even though everything makes sense financially.
  • Have something telling you that you should put some extra business cards in your purse (only to later strike up a conversation with someone at the deli who is looking for the EXACT sparkly cell-phone covers that you are selling on Etsy!).
  • Be super busy, but feel inspired to start that new business or sign up for a class. (Tip: Inspiration is a wonderful indicator that your soul is nudging you!)

Let’s go into more detail about your Higher Self and your Spirit Guides.

1. Higher Self

As we said, your Higher Self is the non-physical part of you; it’s your soul. It is also known as your Authentic Self or Inner Being.  You can call it whatever you want 🙂

You are ALWAYS connected to your Higher Self. Nothing can break your connection with it because it is you – it’s your Spirit – the non-physical part of you.  Even when you are not aware of the connection (as many aren’t) or ignore it, it’s still there.

Your Higher Self is the complete and true essence of you; it’s whole, perfect, loving, and carries all of your past life memories, as well as a basic “blueprint” of the things you desire to experience in this lifetime.

Your soul is an infinite, non-physical energetic being.  Your soul communicates with you by giving you intuitive feelings that help keep you on track with your desires and help move you towards joy.

  • When you have a good vibe about something, this is your Higher Self/soul connecting with you through your intuition saying Yes! this person or situation is in alignment with what I really want. It resonates with your Essence.
  • When you have a bad vibe about something or someone, this is your Higher Self telling you No! this is taking you off track of what you really want or there is danger – steer clear!

2. Spirit Guides

Part two of the answer to the question where does intuition come from is:  Spirit Guides.

Spirit guides are loving spiritual beings who are working magic behind the scenes to help you accomplish the things you’d like to experience. They love you beyond words and truly are our cheerleaders in spirit!

Just like your Higher Self, they connect with you via intuitive thoughts and feelings.

Spirit Guides help and support you in all areas of life. They can help with anything from getting a great parking space to putting the exact person in your path that leads to your dream job.

Spirit Guides are the movers and shakers of the Universe!

  • We each have a main spirit guide that stays with us for life. These are souls who we knew in a past life and that we have a soul connection with.
  • We have other spirit guides who assist us with other aspects of life, such as parenting.
  • Spirit guides can move in and out of our lives. Some are with us for a short time, and some stay with us for a long time, depending on our needs.
  • It’s also okay to request a spirit guide who has a particular skill set. During tax time, I was totally confused and asked for a financial guide to help! (They guided me to an accountant – seriously! lol)
  • In addition to your spirit guides, you have many other members of your spiritual “team.” There are masters, teachers, and of course, your loved ones in heaven!

Final Thoughts

Your soul and spirit guides will love and support you in all ways. A great first step in learning to use and trust your intuition is to take baby steps. Ask for intuitive guidance on a small issue, put your logic aside for a few moments, let go and trust what you are feeling.

I hope I’ve helped you answer the question where does intuition come from!

Psychic Abilities – 9 Signs Your Gifts are Awakening

Psychic Abilities – 9 Signs Your Gifts are Awakening

Your psychic abilities can open at any time in your life, at any age.

Of course, we’re all born with a “sixth sense”, but if we aren’t encouraged to use it, it can sit on the sidelines like the Patriot’s back-up quarterback.

BUT almost anything, at any time, can trigger an intuitive awakening.  Here are some ways to know that your psychic abilities are opening up:

1. You start hanging around with new people

For most people, a new or expanded spiritual awareness comes with their psychic awakening.  But of course, not everyone travels the highway toward understanding at the same speed.

You may be losing interest in your friends, and making new ones with a similar focus.

When you’re psychic abilities are blossoming, you may begin to see the world in a different way.  It may feel like your soul is expanding.

You feel excitement and curiosity, and have a desire for richer and more meaningful relationships and conversations.  Talking about the latest episode of Game of Thronesmay be fun sometimes, but it’s not enough.  You crave meaning and depth.

2. Your eating habits change

Suddenly, you want lighter foods and it isn’t even summer.  Fruits and vegetables have a different, higher vibrational rate than your old meat-and-potatoes fare.

Many people with psychic abilities (myself included) follow a “psychic diet” that consists of high-vibrational foods.  Why?  Because we are all vibrational beings and high-vibrational foods can keep us feeling better physically, spiritually, and emotionally.

3. You have new insights when your psychic abilities awaken

At this time, you might REALLY feel your intuition kicking in.  You might feel like you are being Divinely guided.  You may be getting a lot of “signs” that you can’t ignore.

None of us are “newbies” in the spiritual sense, but if using psychic abilities is new to you, I encourage you to take some time and learn about how your intuition works.  This will give you a great understanding of why you’re getting signs, and where they are coming from.

4. Third eye activity

When your psychic abilities are opening up, your third eye chakra (located between your eyebrows) might tingle or feel pressure.

This is natural and normal and nothing to fear.  It just means that your clairvoyance is strengthening.  (Clairvoyance means you receive intuitive information or communicate with Spirit through images.)

5. You become more physically sensitive

As you develop your psychic abilities, you might notice that your physical senses become heightened, too.  This is because your “clairs” – clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, and claircognizance – are opening up.  How exciting!

The loud t.v. irks you.  The morning coffee smells more divine!

You might notice one particular clair opening up (psychic hearing, for example), or all of them.

6. You’re more tuned in to Spirit

If you are sensing the presence of Spirits, you may be on your path to mediumship.  (All mediums have psychic abilities.)

Perhaps you “feel” Spirit around.  Maybe a name pops into your head.  Or maybe you see an image of your friend’s deceased grandma in your head.  The Spirits connecting with you may be your Spirit Guides or loved ones who’ve passed away.

7. A new way of dreaming

When we are awake, our perceptive faculties act as guardians against unknown input.  Huh?  English please!

A lot of people ignore their extrasensory feelings.  We “debunk”, and say, that must be my imagination!

When we go to sleep, our logical faculties also sleep and the next higher state of awareness can come out to play (and teach!).

If you notice you are having more dreams, or vivid dreams, it’s another sign that your psychic abilities are waking up.  Why not have fun with it and start a dream journal?

8. You are more sensitive to energy

When your psychic abilities open, you might develop an aversion to a particular place or individual because something doesn’t FEEL right.  It may just feel “off” and you don’t know why.

And what about the news?  Um hmm.  You may find that you can no longer watch it or read the newspaper.  This is especially true for clairsentients or empaths who can feel the emotions of others.

On the other hand, you can also feel when someone has a beautiful soul and wonderful energy!

You start avoiding drama because it feels so yucky.  You are learning to embrace your spiritual unfolding.  You’re unpeeling layers of beliefs from your self, and spirituality becomes a new love for you.

9. You start having headaches

Have you ever exercised after not having exercised for a long time?  What happens?  You wake up stiff and sore the next day.

For a lot of people, it’s similar when their psychic abilities start opening up.  Using your clairs are like using muscles you haven’t used in a REALLY long time.

But just like with exercise, you’ll get accustomed to receiving intuitive input and the headaches will go away.  You’ll learn to get grounded and centered in time.  Sometimes, you might have to “tweak” a bit.  For example, even after 15 years, I still get headaches if I give too many readings in a day.

As you adjust, soak your feet in warm water or have a foot massage to redirect the energy.  Naturally, if the headaches persist, talk to your doctor.

Final Thoughts

I hope you now have a little bit of peace about your psychic abilities.  This arena is no different than any other new field of endeavor.  You might be uncomfortable at first, but unfolding your intuition is a good thing.

You aren’t weird; you’re wonderful, and you may well be ahead of the pack.  If you’re called to spirituality, intuition, and psychic abilities – it’s your path.  Congratulations!

How to Trust Your Psychic Clairvoyance in Spite of Doubt

How to Trust Your Psychic Clairvoyance in Spite of Doubt

Psychic clairvoyant experiences are AMAZING.  You get to see images, symbols, and even little “movies” in your head.

But even if you feel mostly awesome about your abilities, there will still be times when you doubt yourself.

We ALL have doubt sometimes – especially in the beginning when our intuitive gifts are first awakening.

Does this sound familiar?

One day you know it’s all real and you feel like you are walking on sunshine! You feel aligned with your soul and oh-so-bubbly!

You smile at the crabby teen who bags your groceries and send her loving pink light!

You pick up your bag of carrots and bounce out of the market.

Psychic clairvoyance rocks!

The next day, you feel… doubt.

Whaaat?

You wonder if you REALLY have psychic clairvoyant ability.

  • Is this all in my head?
  • Am I just making it all up?
  • I’m not very good at this.

But like Susan Powter said in the 90’s, it’s time to Stop the Insanity!

I know – it can be tough to trust your experiences when the world around you perceives right-brain people as flakes.  And it’s not like we can see or touch our intuition, so it’s doubly tricky!

But I PROMISE, you CAN learn to trust your psychic clairvoyant abilities.

I was THE Queen of Doubt!  If I could learn to trust, so can you.

How to Start Trusting Your Psychic Clairvoyant Experiences

Have faith in yourself… just for now

Did you ever stop and think about how much we abuse ourselves with negative self-talk?  A lot!

Decide that just for this week, this day, or even this hour, you are going to trust the messages you get.

  • Take Away: Today, give yourself the benefit of the doubt and have faith in yourself and your psychic clairvoyant abilities. Then watch for and EXPECT amazing insights to come to you.

Ask for it

Would you give a kid in kindergarten a calculus book?  Hmm, nope.  You’d break out the flash cards and teach them that 1+1 = 2.

Starting today, ask your Spirit Guides for CLEAR images that you will be able to EASILY interpret.

Ask for signs, too.  When I was developing my gifts, I asked my Guides for “signs” all the time.

I worried about getting the “right” message, and I needed a lot of reassurance from them. So if you are the same, don’t worry.

  • Take Away:  Your spiritual team is THRILLED that you are on the road to learning about and using your psychic clairvoyant gifts, so they won’t mind being asked for a sign (or 10!).

Trust your Guides

Sometimes, you may get messages that seem just plain weird and wonder what your Guides have been smokin’.

For example, I was giving a mediumship reading once and saw a glass eyeball in my mind’s eye. Yes, you read that right… eyeball.

As my client sat across from me, I convinced myself that this vision was completely wrong, that I sucked, and that I should go back to school for accounting.  But guess what?

She knew exactly what the glass eyeball was all about!

It does take some practice to learn how to interpret these messages, especially when they are sent as a symbol or metaphor. So don’t beat yourself up.  Baby steps.

If you can’t figure a message out, ask your Guides for help clarifying what you saw.

  • Take away:  You can trust your Spirit Guides.  These bundles of energy could be chilling with Source right now, but have chosen to help you out, so know that whatever they send you, is golden.

Share wisely

It’s totally exciting when you start seeing real progress in your gifts, and it’s easy to overshare.

For example, you decide to quit the job you hate and become a freelancer. You’ve always wanted to do this, but finally feel ready because of messages you’ve received through your psychic clairvoyant abilities.

That’s awesome! I couldn’t be happier for you!  Hugs and smiles!  🙂

But the truth is, not everyone will understand. Some will think that you’re so open minded that your brains fell out. You’re listening to your clair-whaaaat?

So, it’s a good idea to think carefully before sharing this information with certain people. You know the ones. They live solidly in the left-brain, logical world and they simply wouldn’t understand about feeling called or guided.

It’s not that they wish you to be unhappy. It’s that they don’t get it. They haven’t opened up to their intuition so they can’t relate.  It’s like they speak a different language.

  • Take away:  It’s so easy to second-guess yourself during this phase.  Keeping certain info on a “need-to-know” basis allows you to share with the people that will encourage you – not the ones who won’t.

Journal

OK, you’ve asked for help from your Spirit Guides and you are choosing to trust yourself. Now what?

You are going to start getting messages, babe, believe it!

One easy way to learn to trust your psychic clairvoyant gifts is to keep a journal of your experiences.

Write down all of the messages or answers you get. Write down your dreams, your visions and any other communications, too.

  • Take away:  This will be a huge help at times when you feel doubt. You will be able to look back to see the “facts” in black and white.

It’s also fun to be able to go back and read your journals later on!

Raise your vibration

To get messages, it’s helpful to have a high vibration.  Remember, all energy vibrates at a certain frequency. Spirit energy vibrates really fast (because it’s not weighed down by a physical body or negative energy).

When your vibration is high, you’ll feel how much easier it is to receive and TRUST the psychic clairvoyant messages that you are receiving.

Raising your vibration is easy:  Do more of what makes you happy and stay away from negativity.  You might be thinking, but have you met my in-laws?

I’ve talked to many people – myself included – who have had to TRAIN themselves to put their happiness first.  It feels weird in the beginning, but it starts to feel more natural the more you do it.

  • Take away:  A high vibration helps you be a clear clairvoyant channel.

Practice, practice, practice

With practice and more successes, your confidence will naturally grow. Practice can be as simple as asking for guidance for yourself, then following it:

  • Ask for guidance.  Write it in your journal.
  • If you don’t get an answer at first, ask for signs.  Write them down in your journal.
  • Take away:  Make practicing a part of your day, every day. You won’t believe how quickly you’ll start trusting your psychic clairvoyant insights!
