About the Goddess of the Month – Freya

Freya

The Goddess of Love

Freya is the Goddess of love in Norse mythology, but she is also associated with sex, lust, beauty, sorcery, fertility, gold, war and death. The name Freya (in Old Norse “Freyja)” means “lady”, and can also be spelled (Freya, Freija, Frejya, Freyia, Fröja, Frøya, Frøjya, Freia, Freja, Frua, and Freiya). She does not originate from the Aesir but she is from the Vanir, she and two other Gods were sent to the Aesir by the Vanir as a token of truce, in return, the Aesir also sent two Gods to the Vanir. Freya became an honorable member of the Aesir after the war between the Aesir and Vanir ended.

Freya’s Family

Freya is the daughter of Njord and his sister Nerthus, and she has a twin brother named Freyr. Freya is married to the God Odr, but he somehow disappeared but it might be Odin, she has two children with Odr, their names are Hnoss and Gersimi. Some of the weekdays in Norse mythology originate from some of the Gods and Goddesses, and Freya might be associated with the day Friday, but there are conflicting sources so it could also be the Goddess Frigg.

Freya is incredibly beautiful and she has many admirers, not just among the Gods and Goddesses but also among the dwarves and giants. She loves jewelry and other fine materials and she has quite often used her beauty to get the jewelry she desires. a big passion for poems and loves to sit and listen to songs for many hours. Freya has an unusual gift when she cries her tears turns into amber or gold.

Freya is living in Asgard (the home of the Gods), the name of her house is Sessrumnir and it is located by the field Fólkvangr which means “field of the host”, “people field” or “army field” It is a place where half of the people who die in a battle go for the afterlife, while Odin will receive the other half. Freya is always given the first choice among the brave warriors after she had picked the ones she wanted, the rest were sent to Odin.

Freya loves to travel and she would sometimes take a ride in her chariot pulled by two black or gray cats. But she was also able to fly, by using her cloak of falcon feathers, which she willingly loaned out to the other Gods and Goddesses in Asgard, when they needed to fly to one of the worlds in a hurry. Freya also has a boar named Hildisvini “battle swine” which she rides when she is not using her cat-drawn chariot. It is also said to be Freya’s human lover, Ottar in disguise, and that is the reason why Loki consistently accuses her of being immoral by riding her lover in public.

Amazing grace, how sweet the Earth

Just Added To The Site

If you will notice, there is now a new PayPal donation button at the top of the left-hand column of our site. This new button is rather simple and self-explanatory, it is a way for you to contribute to our “Federal Employee Relief Fund.  Just click the banner and you are taken directly to the PayPal account so you can make your donations there. Just remember when you make your donations to make sure you indicate what the funds are for. You can do this by simply going to the comment section on the part you fill out. Indicate there that the donation is for “The Employee Relief Fund.” Once we have enough donations in, we will start assisting as many people as possible. Also I have included the html code for this banner, in case you would like to put it on your site, which I hope you do.

As of this morning, there is no end in sight for the government shut-down. Out of the 800,000 employees effected by this shut-down, 35,000 of them are from Kentucky alone. We don’t have the figures for the rest of the states but we do hope to get them shortly. Due to the fact that some of the people in our area follow our site, we have made one minor impact. The landlords of different apartment complexes in the area, have agreed to let the Federal Workers skip paying their rent till they go back to work. This is wonderful news, at least some good-hearted people are listening and concerned as we are about the shut-down. Of course, when they do go back to work, they will have to repay the rent missed but they won’t have to worry about getting kicked out onto the streets. Small progress but a relief for some very worried, out of work employees. Now if we could get more landlords to follow suit that would be fantastic.

Now that’s the good news, now the bad. I know in our area, as well as across the country, food banks are getting hit hard. These food banks assist 100’s of individuals throughout the month. They are by no means able to keep up with the current demand and influx of new individuals coming in and needing assistance with their groceries. The food banks in this area estimate that if the current surge in the number of people needing help continues, they will not have enough food on hand to assist these people. I know myself and I am sure Lady Beltane would agree that when we get the funds, we would be more than willing to donate money to these food banks and any others across the country that are facing the same situation. If you know of a food bank in your area that is facing this same crisis, please let us know about it. Whether it is helping a food bank or an individual, we are willing to do so. It is an awful feeling not to have a penny to your name and facing your family going hungry. These people has worked tirelessly for our government and for us, they need our help. There is no reason these people should have to go hungry because of a government that is using them as political pons. No reason whatsoever! That is why it is very important for us to raise the funds to help these families and the food banks out. I don’t believe anyone ever believed the shut-down would last this long but unfortunately it has. It is also expected to last even longer. Without our help, these families can’t survive. We are asking you to give any amount that you can. Even the smallest amount could make the difference for some child having cereal for breakfast or even having breakfast. These are our neighbors, our friends, our family and our brothers & sisters.. They need our help, please do what you can to assist them in this time of need.

Yesterday, I was asked for a list of email addresses for all the elected officials in Washington at this time. The individual who asked, wants to write her elected officials about the shut down and what an effect it is having on the American citizens. As soon as the list goes up, I would encourage more of you to do so. It seems our government officials are not thinking about the citizens of this great country. Instead they are thinking about what they want and their own personal agendas. They are not thinking about what the citizens need or have to have to survive. They gave the Federal workers tips on how to get by during this shut-down as I mentioned before, babysit, have a yard/garage sale or even walk a dog. I would love for someone to tell Nancy to go walk a dog. She would be utterly offended to get out of her million dollar home and go walk a dog. But yet they expect these Federal workers too, Bull! Every time I think about that I get upset. Go walk a dog, hell Nancy, you go walk a dog!

I have one more favor to ask then I will go and track down all the government officials’ email addys for you. My favor is  that you take our banner for donations and spread it every place you can. Spread it to ever social media outlet you have access to. I believe it is going to get a lot worse before it gets any better. It is going to take all of us to make sure this country doesn’t go to hell in handbag (if it is not already happened). Any assistance you can give us in spreading the word about what we are doing is greatly appreciated. Also remember if you have a blog, website, podcast or whatever, you are more than welcome to join us. The more the merrier and the more there are, the greater impact we will have.

Goddess Knowledge – Psyche

PSYCHE

The story of Psyche tells of a mortal woman taken to a mysterious castle to be married to a fierce dragon. Her husband comes to her in the middle of the night, and she falls in love with him. Told she must never look upon his face, she disobeys this injunction and finds that her husband is really Eros, the god of love; when he awakes, he flies away, leaving her forever.

Psyche roams far and wide trying to find Eros. She goes to his mother, Aphrodite, who gives her four tasks to complete, each seeming impossible. The final task requires her to descend into Hades and retrieve a box of beauty.

Through the process of meeting the challenges of her tasks and integrating her experiences Psyche grows from an innocent young girl into a mature goddess. Psyche is a rich reminder of our imperative to grow;  she reminds us that the process of life takes us into dark places as well as light, just as the butterfly emerges from the dark chrysalis into the light.

Some of the people you share this moment with, you may not see again for a long time, if ever. Treasure the time you spend with them, give your best to the encounter, get the most out of it.

To live your life fully you must live it fully as it comes. Avoid putting off until later, for later can never again offer the missed opportunities of now.

Afraid To Meditate

If you want to meditate but don’t, ask yourself why you would put off something so beneficial to your well-being.

There are times when we feel the pull to meditate but are swayed from it by the excuses that spring to mind. We may think that we are too busy, have no time to ourselves, or that we do not have the right place to meditate. Our minds can think of dozens of reasons to put off meditation. But those are even stronger reasons to look past the illusion of the hustle and bustle of daily life and to connect to the place within that intersects with the timeless power and limitless potential of the universe. From that place we can experience that potent stillness that exists at all times, and it is only as far as away as our breath.

It might be useful to ask yourself why you would put off something so beneficial to your peace of mind and general well-being. There may be fear that if you were to stop your frantic pace, your world might fall apart, and then you would have to face the undeniable reality of who you really are and the results of the choices you have made. You might be afraid that you will be forced to make huge changes in order to align yourself with the universe and harness your true potential. Sometimes the frustrations of the known world seem less scary than the possibilities of the unknown. But the truth is that when we cooperate with the universe by creating our lives from the truth of our being, life becomes less of a struggle and more of a process of living blissfully on purpose.

Finding yourself alone for a few moments can give you the opportunity to turn within to infuse a sense of calm wisdom to your work. Whenever you can take the time to recenter and refocus, it will remind you how beneficial it is to connect to your source. Then you will make the time for longer sojourns of spirit, because once you are rejuvenated and enlivened by knowing that you are made of energy and light, you can channel the power to create your life in alignment with the highest potential of your soul.
