Let’s Talk Witch – The Waning Moon

Dragon Comments & GraphicsThe Waning Moon

The Waning Gibbous Moon or Disseminating Moon appears 3 ½ days to 7 days after the Full Moon. The Moon will rise during the evening and set sometime mid-morning. Again we see the bulge on one side of the Moon but it is now decreasing each day. Darkness is slowly moving in. Waning is underway.

The Waning Last Quarter Moon appears between 7 and 10 ½ days after the Full Moon. She rises near midnight and sets near noon. Because of the return to a right angle between the Sun and Moon the variation between tides is low again. There is once again a balance between light and dark, but the dark will soon overcome the light.

The Waning Crescent or Balsamic Moon occurs between 10 ½ days after the Full Moon up until the New Moon. The Moon rises in the dark hours of the morning and sets in the afternoon. Again we see the Moon as a beautiful crescent, but it is rapidly diminishing into darkness.

You do not have to be concerned so much about overdoing things now because the lunar rhythm will act as something of a brake. Now is a good time to throw away your rubbish, take old clothes to charity shops. Consider how well things are working out and analyse information. Follow your needs and reactions.

You may feel more like meditating and being alone. Clear spaces of all descriptions and make endings, let go of unwanted energies, release, banish and reverse. Some people favour scrying and meditation with the Dark Moon because it is a more inward time. The insights you glean now will have a deeper more insightful quality, whereas as Full Moon they may be more obviously creative.

To connect with the Waxing Moon energies and the energy of the Crone, place an amethyst in a bowl of water, light a purple candle and scry.

Use a hag stone (holey stone) or a piece of elder or yew wood. Hold this during meditation to connect with crone energies and the energy of the Waning Moon.

Make a crone hearth in your fireplace or on your mantelpiece. Decorate it with symbols that represent her to you, or you could just use a cauldron (or big casserole dish) and fill it with a large dark coloured candle and pebbles.

Tuesday Is Ruled By Mars

Dragon Comments & GraphicsTuesday Is Ruled By Mars

Tuesday is a Mars day, and just like the god of war, this is the time to tap into magicks to call for strength and courage. This day of the week is for rebels and warriors. If you are facing a challenge of any kind, need a boost to your courage, or want to enhance your passions, Tuesday is the day of the week for you. Some suggestions for Tuesday enchantments would include:

*Wearing the fiery colors associated with this day: scarlet, red, black, and orange. Don some of the more daring and bewitching colors of your wardrobe on Tuesdays and turn a few heads

*Carrying a bloodstone in your pocket or wearing garnet-studded jewelry to reinforce your convictions

*Working with protective and fire-associated plants such as the snapdragon, thistle, and holly to boost your shields and bravery

*Burning spicy-scented energy-enhancing candles to add a little magical aromatherapy to your home

*Cooking up a hearty meal featuring carrots, peppers, and garlic (all Mars foods and spices) to empower yourself for victory and success

Seasons of the Witch – Legends and Lore, Ancient Holidays And Some Not So Ancient!

Seasons of the Witch – Legends and Lore, Ancient Holidays And Some Not So Ancient!

Today Is …

Fornax – The Romans celebrated the festival of Fornax, Goddess of Ovens, by hanging garlands of flowers on ovens and wreaths on the necks of the mules who turned the mills. Field, Carol, The Italian Baker

Vestalia – In ancient Rome, this was the day set aside for a public festival for the hearth goddess Vesta. Women walked barefoot around her round temple with offerings. The Vestal Virgins prepared the ritual food: mola salsa, a cake of salt and the first grain. The water came from vessels that could not be set down without spilling and the salt was pounded in a mortar, baked and sawn. It became a holiday for millers and bakers. Blackburn, Bonnie and Leofranc, Holford-Strevens, The Oxford Book of Days, Oxford University Press, 2000 Monaghan, Patricia, The Book of Goddesses and Heroines, Llewellyn 1981

St Columba*
Day of Colum Cille the beloved
Day to put the loom to use
Day to put sheep to pasture
Day to put coracle on the seas
Day to bear, day to die
Day to make prayer efficacious
Day of my beloved, the Thursday.

This is the luckiest day of the year when it falls on Thursday (alas! This year it falls on Monday). St Columba was one of the most beloved of Celtic saints. The magical herb, St John’s Wort, which flowers around summer solstice, was said to be his favorite herb. He wore it underneath his armpit to ward off all kinds of evil. If find some accidentally and you say this charm when you pick it, you can use it the same way:

Arm-pit package of Columba the kindly
Unsought by me, unlooked for
I shall not be carried away in my sleep
Neither shall I be pierced with iron
Better the reward of its virtues
Than a herd of white cattle.

In Norway, this is considered the day the salmon start leaping.

Rome: Vestalia, an 8-day festival honoring the Goddess Vesta,
began when Vesta’s sanctuary doors were opened. Vesta, thought
by some to be a triple-goddess and the Roman equivalent of the
Greek Goddess Hestia, was the Goddess of the Hearth, Home, and
all domestic happiness, as well as the protector of virginal
womanhood.

Her six priestesses, the Vestal Virgins, embodied the creative
power of the Goddess prior to the first great rite of passage
from maiden to mother. They were chosen from physically perfect
girls with two living parents, between their sixth and tenth
years. Each was sworn to thirty years of chastity and service to
the Goddess, under threat of the punishment of being buried
alive should they fail to maintain their purity.

Their most sacred duty was tending Her sacred fire, said to have
been brought to Italy by Aeneas, at the Temple of Vesta. For the
great pageantry of the Vestalia, they would draw holy water from
a sacred spring and gather grain to make the holy cakes, the
salty ‘mola salsa’, which were offered with prayers and songs on
behalf of the state and individual households. Libations of wine
would be poured on the ground and altars as well as into goblets
for drinking. Donkeys, the favorite animal of the Goddess, would
be garlanded with wreaths and cakes, blessing the bakers and
millers.

The well being of the entire State depended on the Vestals’
devotion and service to the Goddess. The Vestals guarded state
documents, and the Vestalis Maxima, the chief Vestal Virgin, had
undisputed advisory power in times of national crisis. The
Vestals appearance was required in many public ceremonies and
they were given many privileges. To this day, remains of statues
of the Vestals can be seen at the Roman Atrium.

The Emperor Theodosius abolished the worship of Vesta in 380 AD,
but echoes of the Vestal Virgins and their pontifex maximus, the
man who oversaw the order of their daily lives, can be seen in
the nuns and Pope of Roman Catholicism. Source: earthmoonandsky

Tuesday’s Must Dos

DragonStarySkyTuesday’s Must Dos

Tuesday is the day to work any magick that falls in the category of increasing strength, courage, bravery, and passion. All of these intense emotions are linked to this day’s energies, and spells designed around these themes will have extra punch when performed on this magickal day.

So, let’s add a little passion and conviction into your life! Break out the daring red pieces of your wardrobe, and put a little pizzazz into your day. Work with Lilith, and see what she has to teach you about personal power and sexuality. Meditate onTiw/Tyr and Mars, and see what those ancient warrior gods will show you about new tactics, strategies, and claiming personal victories in your life. Practice conjuring up that astral weapon from the meditation and use it wisely for protection and for courage.

Create a philter for courage and protection or handcraft your own Witch’s jar to remove negativity from your home. See what other Witch crafts you can conjure up with Tuesday’s magick. Create some kitchen magick on this Tuesday by whipping up a spicy stew-add in a few Mars-associated ingredients such as carrots, peppers, and garlic. Empower the stew for success, and then treat yourself and your family to a good, hearty meal. Try working with a little aromatherapy and burn some spicy or coffee-scented candles to increase your energy level.

Check the sky at night, and see if you can find the reddish planet Mars up in the heavens. Not sure where to look? Check an astronomy magazine or search the Web for more information. Become a magickal warrior and move forward in your life with strength, courage, and compassion. Embrace the side of yourself that loves a good challenge and that is passionate and daring! Banish fear, and face your future with strength and conviction. Believe in yourself and in your dreams, work hard, and you will win every time.

Moon in Pisces

Jun 7, 2015 to Jun 10, 2015

On a Pisces Moon, think foot massage. Soak your soles in a calming lavender bath. Feet are ruled by Pisces; maybe it’s the way they cushion against the hard ground. Let yourself drift and dream today. Forget that pressured list in your day planner; don’t bother with a watch. You’ll accomplish more by letting your intuition guide you from this to that. Mood enhancers are films, music and poetry. But watch the spaced-out bag boy at the supermarket; he’s likely to leave your ice cream on the checkout stand. Steer clear of whiners and martyrs. There’s moisture in the air-fog, mist, tears. Better to convert self-pity or sentimentality into a broader compassion for the world. And if you’ve let your meditation practice lapse, this is a great Moon to return. Find the window that opens to your one-ness with all.
