Helpful Hints: Knot HardIf you want to carry a spell around with you but don’t want to lug around a charm bag or such, simply tie a knot into a small piece of string when you first cast the spell (this will find the spell into the string), and tuck it into your wallet or purse.

Let’s Talk Witch – Knot MagickA lot of Witchcraft involves what we call sympathetic magick. No, this doesn’t mean doing magick for people you feel sorry for (although that’s okay, too). Sympathetic magick is when you use one thing (a poppet or doll, for instance) to represent another (the person the spell is going to affect).
Knot magick is one of the oldest and simplest forms of sympathetic magick. Its use dates back to ancient Mesopotamia, and it went on to spread through Greece, Rome, and on into the rest of Europe. Although it originated with male mystics, it eventually came to be thought of as “women’s magick” because working with thread was seen as a woman’s occupation. (As if woman’s magick was somehow less powerful because a woman did it. Silly, I know, but there’s the medieval male mind for you.)
Knot magick is a type of sympathetic magick because the knot represents binding. Essentially, tially, you tie the knots as you cast your spell, and this action binds the power of the spell into the thread or cord you are using, making the spell more powerful and longer lasting.
You can tie just one knot or you can use the more traditional practice of using a long cord and tying nine knots, with the first knot at one end, the second at the other end, the third in the middle, the fourth and fifth halfway between the end and the middle, the sixth and seventh between the fourth and fifth and the end, and the last two between the central knot and the ones closest to it. (If this is too confusing, don’t worry about it: just tie nine knots anywhere.)
Either way, remember to focus on the spell you are doing and what you are trying to achieve.
There are many variations on the words to say while you are tying the knots, and you can always just make up your own.
But here is one example I particularly like:
By the knot of one, the spell’s begun.
By the knot of two, it cometh true.
By the knot of three, so mote it be.
By the knot of four, open the door.
By the knot of five, the spell’s alive.
By the knot of six, the spell is fixed.
By the knot of seven, the stars of heaven.
By the knot of eight, the stroke of fate.
By the knot of nine, the thing is mine!
When you are done with your knot magick, remember to put your thread or cord on your altar or someplace else that is safe–there is a lot of power “tied” up in it now.

Magickal Applications for Friday
Friday is named after the Norse goddesses of love, Freya and Frigga. There seems to be some debate as to whom the day is actually named after, so I thought I would share a little information so you can decide for yourself.
In Latin, this day is known as Dies Veneris, “Venus’s day.” In Greek, it’s Hermera Aphrodites, which translates to the “day of Aphrodite.” In Old English, this day is called Frige- daeg, or “Freya’s day.” This day has the Germanic title of Frije-dagaz, which, once again, could be Freya’s day or Frigga’s day.
Both Freya and Frigga were Norse goddesses of love and were the Teutonic equivalent of the Greco-Roman Venus/Aphrodite. However, Freya was one of the Vanir—the gods of fertility who supervised the land and sea—and she was the leader of the Valkyries. Frigga, Odin’s wife, was the goddess of the heavens and of married love. She was one of the Aesir—the gods associated with battle, magick and the sky. Freya and Frigga could be looked upon as different aspects of the same goddess. They both were called on to assist in childbirth and then in naming of the new baby. Frigga represented the faithful wife and loving mother, while Freya, who really captured the hearts and imagination of the Norse people, was the passionate mistress and lover.
Fridays classically are days for love, fertility, romance, and beauty magick, as well as working for happiness, harmony in the home, and friendship. So let’s take a look at some of the mythology involved with this loving, voluptuous, passionate, and luxurious day of the week, and see where it leads us.

Friday falls at the end of the work week for many of us, and that means we get a chance to relax for a little bit! Mark your Fridays with colors like pink and aqua, and metals such as copper. This is a day ruled by the planet Venus, so it should be no surprise that Venus and Aphrodite – goddesses of love and beauty – are associated with Fridays. This is a day named for the Norse goddess Freyja, so be sure to take a moment to honor her as well.
Gemstones associated with Friday include coral, emerald and rose quartz, and plants like strawberries, apple blossoms and feverfew are also related. This is a good day to do spellwork associated with family life and fertility, sexuality, harmony, friendship, growth. Take advantage of Friday’s correspondences and plant a seed, make something grow, and enjoy your blessings
*Note: There are a lot of disputes as to the origins of the word Friday, because there is still a great deal of discussion as to whether it was named for Freyja or Frigga, and whether they were the same deity or two separate ones. Some scholars believe that while they may have eventually become two distinctly different goddesses, they could have had their origins in a single, common Proto-Germanic deity.

About Kore: An aspect of Persephone before her marriage to Hades, this youthful goddess motivates good fortune, zeal, and a closer affinity to earth’s cycles during the coming months.
Kore, whose name means “maiden” is the youngest aspect of the triune Goddess. She was the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, as beautiful as spring’s blossoms and as fragrant as its breezes. It was this beauty that inspired Hades to tempt her with a pomegranate, a symbol of eternal marriage. Because she ate the fruit, Persephone spends winter with Hades as his wife and returns to the earth in spring.
To Do Today: Traditionally, on this day the Greeks carried an image of Kore around the temple seven times for victory, protection, and good fortune. Since your home is your sacred space, consider walking clockwise around it seven times with any goddess symbol you have (a round stone, vase, or bowl will suffice). As you go, visualize every nook and cranny being filled with the yellow-white light of dawn, neatly chasing away any lingering winter blues.
This is also Twelfth Night. Customarily, all holiday decorations should be down by now. This day marks winter’s passage and perpetuates Kore’s gusto and luck in your home year-round. Also consider carrying a little unpopped popcorn in your pocket to keep Kore’s zeal and vigor close by for when you need it.

Jupiter dominates the morning sky in early January. The giant planet rises before 1 a.m. local time and climbs nearly halfway to the zenith in the southern sky by the time twilight begins. Jupiter shines brilliantly at magnitude –2.0 and shows a disk that spans 36″ when viewed through a telescope. A small scope also reveals the planet’s four bright moons, though you may have to hunt for one of them this morning. The shadow of volcanically active Io starts to transit Jupiter at 5:24 a.m. EST, and the moon itself begins to cross the planet’s disk at 6:37 a.m.
Saturday, January 7
The variable star Algol in Perseus appears faintest at 12:30 a.m. EST tomorrow morning, when it shines at magnitude 3.4. If you start watching it immediately after darkness falls, you can see it dim from its peak brightness (magnitude 2.1) to minimum and then rise back to maximum all in a single night. This eclipsing binary star runs through a cycle from minimum to maximum and back every 2.87 days, but the drop from peak brightness and subsequent rise lasts only about 10 hours. Algol appears in the eastern sky after sunset and passes nearly overhead around 8 p.m. local time.
The dwarf planet Pluto is in conjunction with the Sun at 2 a.m. EST. The distant world then lies on the far side of the Sun from our perspective and can’t be seen.

Although Mercury passed between the Sun and Earth in late December, it already has returned to view before dawn. This morning, you can find the inner planet 9° above the southeastern horizon 30 minutes before sunrise. Shining at magnitude 0.2, it should show up through the twilight glow. If you don’t see it right away, binoculars will bring it into view. A telescope reveals Mercury’s 8″-diameter disk, which appears one-third illuminated.

First off, I am trying to track down a good animation program(as usual I got side-tracked, lol!) Anybody who knows me will tell you I am about one of the most ambitious witches you will ever meet. I have this ideas pop in my head and I have to run with them. Most of the ideas aren’t my own, I do believe the Goddess is planting those little ideas and bugs in my brain. Anyway, I want to make a graphic about “Setting 2017 on Fire For The Goddess.” After I get it made I will put it on the main post area and also on the sidebars. I wish, I really, really do that you would take it and use it on your site or just pass it along. As usual, we don’t ask for any credit or links back to us. We don’t do certain things for the glory or the credit. We do them because we are sincere in our work for the Goddess. So I will see what I can track down and if it doesn’t look awesome, you will never see it, lol! If you haven’t figured out yet, I am a perfectionist, always have been, always will be. Which leads me up to my next reason for hopping back.
That pic I put up yesterday of Kade was horrible. It was when we first got him. He was under weigh, his fur looked horrible, I mean really, it was awful. So I have switched computers and this one is the one that has all his pics on it now. I made mention of what he looked like now which made me want to post a few. I promise this is the only time I will give you familiar over-load. I am just trying to prove a point….look, look, he looks much better now.
He might be little but he helps with the chores. Ok, I feel much better now. I promise no more photo overloads. Thanks for putting up with me. Till tomorrow, my sweets,
