Remember Rosemary

Sacred to Venus, the Roman goddess whose namesake planet is about to relinquish its astrological ascendancy, rosemary is best known today as an aromatic culinary herb. In Ancient times, however, this evergreen was considered a lucky charm as well as an emblem of loyalty and love and in Hamlet, playwright William Shakespeare has Ophelia saying, “There’s roemary, that’s for remembrance; pray, love, remember.” Its antibacterial, anti-septic qualities have also caused it to be used to ward off and treat a long list of illnesses and ailments over the ages.

Avina Aid

Take this last day of Libra as a cue to consider the winter welfare of the creatures of the air, its element. You could, for instance, erect a bird table, shop for seeds and other types of basil food, or buy a bird bath to fill with water to feed your feathered friends.

Hi Matsuri (Japan)
IZU NO ME MO KAMI

Themes: Mediation; Health; Cleansing

Symbols: Fire or Water

About Izu no me mo Kami: A goddess of purification, Izu no me mo Kami helps us prepare for the sacred festivals of late fall and early winter with her cleansing power. While she was born in water, this goddess’s energy exists in any rites for purification, including those centered on fire.

To Do Today: This is a fire festival in Japan designed to welcome and help people commune with the native deities who come to earth this day. People carry light sources like candles and torches, which offer Izu no me mo Kami’s purifying energies to the meeting. In this part of the world it is considered unseemly to go before the gods spiritually or physically dirty.

In keeping with this theme, take a ritual bath today before your daily prayers or meditations. Add cleansing herbs like pine needles, bay leaves, fennel, lemon rind. Alternatively, drop in a few herbal tea bags (like peppermint or chamomile) to keep the dried items from clogging the drain. Before getting in, stir the water counterclockwise, saying,

Goddess of cleansing power,
purify me this sacred hour.
Remove all guilt, all blame or shame.
I ask this by invoking your name:
Izu no me mo Kami.

Keep whispering the goddess’s name at regular intervals until you get out of the tub. Then enter your prayers and meditations with a purified mind, heart, and spirit.

Monday: Keep the moon safe from the wolf

Easy to remember – Monday is the Moon Day. The word moon is associated with the Norse god Mona (Máni). He was pulling the moon accross the sky, trying to escape and save it from a mythological wolf. At the end of the world, the wolf will catch them and tear the moon into pieces. This apocalyptic period of the world is called Ragnarok in Norse mythology.

In Romance languages, Monday is also the Moon Day (lunes in Spanish, lundi in French, lunedi in Italian: coming from Latin Dies Lunae).

Monday

Monday is named after the moon. The Latin term for Monday is Dies Lunae (“moon’s day”); in the Old English language, this day was Monandaeg; in Greek, it was Hermera Selenes. All of these different names and languages translate to the same thing: the “day of the moon.”

Working with the different phases of the moon is an important skill that takes a bit of time for Witches to learn. So why not cut to the chase and experiment with the day of the week that is dedicated to the moon in all of its magickal energies and aspects?

Magickally, Monday encourages the lunar energies of inspiration, illusion, prophetic dreams, emotions, psychic abilities, travel, women’s mysteries, and fertility.

Monday’s Witchery = Lunar Magick

Think for a moment on all of the witchery, magick and enchantments that you have discovered. Don’t be afraid to adjust spells to suit your own specific needs. Any gentle, illusory, and dreamy charms and spells can be enhanced when you work on the day of the week that is dedicated to the moon. Mondays are a fantastic day to boost your psychic abilities and to tune in to your intuition and empathy. It also gives you the opportunity to work with a different lunar phase each and every Monday, which means in one month you could work four different types of moon magicks on Mondays. How’s that for adding to your repertoire? You are going to have mad skills in no time at all.

So light up those lunar scented candles and add a little mystique to your outfit by wearing an enchanting lunar color. Wear your sparkling silver jewelry and maybe add a pair of dangling silver earrings or a pendant shaped like a crescent moon. Create lunar potions and philters; make a dream catcher and give it as a gift to someone you love. Burn some sandalwood or jasmine-scented incense today to inspire the glamour and magick of the moon. Slice up a favorite variety of fruit that is in season for a snack or share it with your love and enjoy his or her lunar and romantic qualities. Brew up a cup of chamomile tea, enchant it with a little moon magick, and relax and get a good night’s sleep.

Most importantly, get outside tonight and watch the moon for a while. What phase is she in? What color was the moon as she rose? Why not start a journal and write down at what location the moon rises and sets for a few seasons? This is a great way to teach you to tune in and to become more aware of the moon and the influence that she pulls into our lives. Try calling on Selene for her magickal assistance, and call Thoth for wisdom and strength. Get to know the Norse Mani and the Latvian Meness. These gods of the moon have plenty to teach, and if you allow their influence to cycle through your life, you’ll receive many blessings. Be imaginative, and create your own personal lunar magick and witchery. Go on….the moonlight becomes you.

We’re motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to start something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.

The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.

FULL MOON MAGIC TO ATTRACT ALL WONDERFUL THINGS

The full moon is expansive, nourishing, and energizing. Performing this spell will channel all that energy toward increasing your luck: your ability to irresistibly attract all wonderful things into your life experience. This includes (but is not limited to) money, love, happiness, and success.

Ingredients:

A red rose
1/4 cup sea salt
A pint-sized mason jar with lid
A clear quartz crystal point, cleansed with sunshine, sage smoke, and/or running water
Cinnamon
Patchouli or vetiver essential oil (or both)
Sunflower oil (from the baking aisle is fine)

Draw a warm bath, possibly by candlelight. Add the sea salt and the petals from the rose to the water. Stir with your hand in a clockwise direction until the salt is dissolved. Get into the bath and feel your personal magnetism being activated and enlivened. Imagine that you really and truly are the luckiest and most fortunate person you know. Feel extremely grateful for this, and imagine any conditions you’d like to attract as already being 100% present in your life experience.

Dry off and dress in something both comfortable and lovely. Sit comfortably in front of the remaining ingredients. Breathe deeply and center yourself. When you feel ready, place the crystal in the mason jar. Sprinkle it with cinnamon. Add 4-10 drops of essential oil. Cover all of it with the sunflower oil, filling the jar to around 3/4 full. Affix the lid and combine by shaking gently or lightly swirling in a clockwise direction. As you do so, say:

Radiant moon of luminous light,
Activate my luck this night.
Awaken me to the blessing each moment brings,
And make me a magnet to wonderful things.

Lightly anoint your forehead, throat, heart, and belly with the oil. Repeat the anointing process once per day until the next full moon.

This online workshop will help you hone your magic and manifestation abilities.

Full Moon Spell for Empowering the Energy Centers

This spell is quick and simple. It only requires that you bring your intent and your belief to the spell. It is designed for the first energy center, or chakra, but can be modified to work for the others as well.

Tools:
4 red candles
Matches or a lighter

When: A Friday night on the full moon

Place the four candles at the four cardinal directions. Starting at the north, move clockwise to light the candles. With each candle that you light, imagine your first center as a swirling orb of strong, pulsating energy that imbues your being with sexual charisma and power.

When you have finished lighting the candles, spend a few minutes in the center of your candle Circle, preferably in the lotus position. Inhale deeply several times, then exhale quickly, expelling all the air from your lungs. Pinch your right nostril shut, inhale through the left, and hold for a count of ten. Exhale through the right nostril. Repeat five times and switch sides.

As you do this alternate nostril breathing, imagine your first energy center imbued with power.
This spell can be repeated with each of the centers, using the appropriate colors. When you feel comfortable casting spells, you can create your own rhyme for each of the cardinal directions, to say when you light the candles.

MOON WATER TONIC

Tonic waters containing the energies of the moon embody very powerful healing benefits that bring about integral balance and wholeness throughout the body, mind and soul. Clear quartz crystal catalyses the absorption of lunar energies as well as amplifies the healing benefits.

TO PREPARE MOON WATER

Wait for a clear night, preferably on or right before the full moon. Put your crystal in a clear glass and cover with one cup of purified water. Check an almanac for the exact time of sundown on the day you have chosen. At sundown, place the glass out of doors in a moonlit place (cover the glass with clear plastic wrap). Remove the glass at dawn. The water is now filled with lunar potency.

Drink the moon water every morning to prepare your body, mind and spirit for the stress of the day.

A Full Moon Lunar Potion

The power of the Moon can be utilized in many ways. Not sure where to start? Consider trying your hand at some easy to learn, yet challenging to master lunar potion making: you’ll gain a foundation of experience and understanding that will kick start your Moon magick. Here is a basic formula to get you started for the upcoming Full Moon. You can also consider adding herbs, oils or stones to personalize the recipe; just take care to use the potion only externally.

Here’s a versatile brew that can be used to create resources and reveal opportunities. Choose a symbol, sigil, or word to represent the thing you wish this potion to manifest. For example, if you want to manifest money, you might decide to use a dollar sign or a pentacle. Paint the symbol on the side of a clear glass jar while imagining the jar filled with the essence of your desire. Fill the jar with water and a handful of soil, then place it outside beneath a Full Moon. Gaze at the Moon and notice its expansive, creative energies. Ask these energies to enter and charge the water.

Sit quietly for thirteen minutes while the potion absorbs the moonlight. Swirl the jar clockwise thirteen times while visualizing the thing you wish to manifest, the fulfillment of your magickal goal.

Use this potion to charm objects and places related to your goal. For example, if you want to manifest a new car, you might anoint your key ring with a bit of this brew. If greater creativity in your artwork is what you crave, sprinkle a few drops of the potion on your studio or on your art supplies.

Moon Crystal Amulet

You can use any crystal or tumble stone thatyou like for this, go with your intuition and pick one that resonates with you and makes you feel a connection to the Moon.

If possible do this outside under the Moon or in a window where the moonlight shines in. Sprinkle your chosen crystal with salt and then waft it through incense smoke to cleanse and purify it. After that very carefully pass the crystal over a candle flame and finally sprinkle it with Full Moon water.

Charge the crystal with your intent; it might be for protection, strength or courage, using the power of the moonlight.

Carry it with you in a small pouch, pocket or purse

Evil

Evil never wins.

It will always be defeated, but there will be casualties.

I look to the Goddess and see her standing besides me.

I find the power which is mine

I raise my sword and defeat the face of evil with the hands of
the Goddess.

She will keep me safe.

For I am her daughter forever.

I gather my Sisters close to me

I gather the strength of the Witches from the past

I gather the animals around me

My prayer begins:

I stand before the Goddess under this full moon. I seize the power of the moon in my hands. I bring the children to my side. The Goddess sends her light to me. My family shows the love that we have for each other. May the Goddess send you her power.
May those around us feel the joy that we bring to
the circle. May prosperity fill our lives.

As her daughters we show our love for Mother Earth daily. She shows respect for all that is alive. We pray for those who live in fear to find safety. We pray for those who live in pain to find compassion. We pray for those in cages to run free. See how the birds fly free in our skies. See how the animals roam free. May their days be long.

I send our power to the four corners. I send our wishes to all. Bless the children.

Bless our families. Bless the animals.

But most … Blessings to all.

Your Daily Planet Tracker for October 17: The Moon in Aquarius

Quirky, Humanitarian, Independent

October 17 – October 19, 2018

Before we talk specifically about the Moon in Aquarius, let’s first talk about the Moon for a moment. Astrologers consider the Moon a planet, and because it moves so quickly it passes through each of the 12 zodiac signs once every month. Just as the Sun has a placement in our birth chart, so does the Moon.

When the Moon is in Aquarius

Regardless of what your sign is, for a couple of days each month we all get drawn into the influence of the Aquarius Moon. This is the time when we’re more inclined to march to the beat of our own drum. Aquarius is anything but cookie-cutter, and this lunation will have us trying to figure out what it is that makes us unique so that we can share it with the world.

Aquarians are social butterflies, making friends and influencing people wherever they go. This isn’t surprising considering Aquarius rules the 11th House of Friendships! When the Moon moves into this gregarious sign, you’ll feel the urge to call your friends, make plans, and get out and interact with those around you.

The Aquarius Moon could also have you feeling a little but more rebellious and spontaneous than usual. You may crave freedom and a distraction from your everyday life. If you’ve been feeling stuck in a rut, this is when you’ll decide to change up your routine or break old habits.

New Moon in Aquarius

New Moons are times of new emotional cycles and planting seeds for whatever we want to come next. The futuristic Aquarius New Moon encourages us to cut our past loose, or at least some of the things that we’re still hung up on. Aquarius is cool and detached, ideal for making a clean break from things that are no longer serving us so that we can boldly step into the next phase of our lives.

Our innovative spirit is off the charts with the New Moon in unconventional Aquarius! When the Sun and Moon team up in this brainy sign, we have a greater ability to expand our perceptions and come up with bright ideas. Aquarius sometimes dreams up concepts so far ahead of its time that they cannot be applied to current circumstances. However, the New Moon helps put us in touch with reality so that we can bring these groundbreaking insights back down to earth.

Full Moon in Aquarius

This Full Moon occurs when the cooperative Aquarius Moon opposes the individualistic Leo Sun. This cosmic coupling allows us see the difference between satisfying ourselves (Leo) and collaborating with others (Aquarius), and helps us understand the relationship between teamwork and individuality. The community-conscious Aquarius Full Moon reminds us that we are part of something larger than ourselves, and that acting on our ideas and ideals will benefit everyone.

You’ll probably wonder where your invitation is because it’s always a party when the Full Moon is in Aquarius! Full Moons spark an increase in activity and energy, and Aquarius is one of the most outgoing signs in the zodiac. You’ll be more apt to let your hair down and have a good time during this fun-loving Full Moon.

If you were born with the Moon in Aquarius

The Moon in Aquarius is an oddity because the Moon is about our gut instincts, our moods, and how we respond to things emotionally. The paradox here is that Aquarius is an Air sign which means it’s more concerned with mental functions than the messiness of human emotion. This doesn’t mean those with their natal Moon in Aquarius don’t have feelings. Rather, their feelings are more conceptual and intellectual.

Lunar Aquarians are incredibly observant people. Their minds are always on alert, constantly trying to figure out why people do the things that they do. This curiosity extends to other areas of life, and they enjoy learning about science, mechanics, and technology. They love to know how things work — you might even find them taking things apart and putting them back together!

Aquarius Moon sign people are natural humanitarians and are often involved in philanthropic causes of some kind. They are egalitarians at heart, and have strong beliefs about the welfare of others and human rights. Don’t let the Water-bearer’s aloof exterior fool you. Lunar Aquarians are passionate about helping others, and simply remain objective in an effort to avoid getting caught up in emotionally turbulent situations.

Autumn is a gorgeous season to be outdoors — the trees are decked out in their gold-and-russet finery, and there’s still enough sun to ward off the chill. So, tear yourself and your loved ones away from the all-consuming black hole of electronic devices, and pay a fun visit to Mother Nature. Where to go? Here are some ideas to jumpstart your imagination:

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

You like to be where the action is. Chasing storms out in the desert or another flat expanse would get your heart pounding — just make sure you don’t get too close! You could also take a fast-moving train or boat trip to enjoy the fall scenery and feel the elements whizzing by. Fall is a good time to run a marathon, as the weather has cooled down some. It would help you get in shape before all that holiday feasting, too!

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

A long, slow drive to savor the season would be right up your alley. Plan an all-day or weekend getaway, with stops at favorite restaurants or new ones that you’ve researched online. As a destination, a hot springs would be fantastic — you could enjoy a hike in nature, then soak for hours in healing mineral baths. You’d also enjoy visiting a picturesque town with lots of fun boutiques where you could stroll and shop for hours!

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Because your mind is so over-stimulated, autumn is a good time to chill out. An outdoor activity that focuses you completely on a goal — such as rock-climbing or archery — would clear and refresh your mind. Just be sure to leave the cell phone behind! An out-of-town film festival or wine-tasting tour would satisfy your need for variety and help you relax. If you’re in good shape, a back-packing trip will really get you grounded.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

Get thyself away from the kitchen, and out into nature where you can drink in the nourishment of the elements. You could drive to the mountains, hike during the day, then bundle up in warm clothes and view the stars at night. Or, plan an outing to visit family who live at a distance, and have them guide you on a walking tour of the area. If possible, plan your trip for the Full Moon, when your energy will be high.

Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22)

Horseback-riding would be an ideal autumnal excursion for you. Imagine yourself galloping through the trees in all their splendor, as the wind whips through your hair. Anything that gets your blood pumping, such as mountain-climbing or skiing (if there’s enough snow), would be good for both your heart and your spirits. If you need some motivation, be sure to reward yourself with a fine-dining experience afterward!

Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22)

Planting a pre-winter garden, perhaps as a family or community endeavor, would be a lovely autumn activity for you. You could also round everyone up and visit a local farm or harvest fair to enjoy the animals and stock up on goodies like fresh goat cheese and homemade preserves. You might try planning an excursion to a lavender field to gather blossoms for sachets, or going on a hike and gathering white sage to make into fragrant bundles.

Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22)

A romantic stroll down a wind-swept beach at sunset with a loved one would be your perfect autumn excursion. Or, take a trek around a beautiful lake and watch the ducks at play. A shopping expedition to a part of town that features clothing and home accessories from another country (such as Korea, Africa or India) would also be a fun outing when done in tandem. Treat yourselves to an exotic meal while you’re there.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21)

Getting away from time to time is essential for you. An excursion to the deep, dark woods would restore your soul this autumn. Go alone or with someone special, and commune in silence with the trees. Because your element is “fixed water,” which translates to ice, why not visit an ice-skating rink for an extra-special adventure? The simple, down-home pleasure of a rodeo or outdoor concert should also please you.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)

You love exploring unknown territory, even in your own backyard. This autumn, get out a guidebook to your city or a neighboring one, and plan outings to places you’ve never been before. Visit an observatory to see the constellations, an art museum to enjoy the latest exhibition, or go whale watching on a cruise ship. You could also go on a guided Sierra Club hike to learn about your local flora and fauna.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19)

You love the past, so plan an excursion this autumn to an antique mall or open-air flea market to forage for treasures. Touring a local historical landmark or natural history museum would also satisfy the part of you that appreciates antiquity. You enjoy desert landscapes — the vast expanses soothe your soul — so why not plan a desert trek? Even better if you can add a trip to a local hot springs to soothe your weary bones.

Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18)

Autumn is a wonderful time to participate in team sports, from football to Frisbee. Even getting out to the park for a game of croquet or swinging in a swing can make you feel like a kid again. Because you’re interested in what’s new and progressive, you could also participate in a tour of “green” homes in your area, or learn how to landscape with edible plants by taking a weekend workshop on permaculture.

Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20)

Visiting a marine park would be the perfect autumn outing for your watery soul, as would whale watching or sailing. If you’re seeking something tranquil, spend a day at the spa getting pampered, then go out for a delicious fish dinner. If a high-flying adventure sounds more appealing, hot-air ballooning or hang gliding might do the trick. Going to an outdoor concert where you can dance your heart out would also be fun!
