CELTIC TREE MONTH TINNE HOLLY

CELTIC TREE MONTH TINNE HOLLY

“The Celtic Tree Calendar is a calendar with thirteen lunar divisions. Most contemporary Pagans use fixed dates for each ‘month’, rather than following the waxing and waning lunar cycle. If this was done, eventually the calendar would fall out of sync with the Gregorian year, because some calendar years have 12 full moons and others have 13. The modern tree calendar is based on a concept that each letter in the ancient Celtic alphabet corresponded to a tree.”

July 8th through August 4th marks the Celtic Tree Month of Tinne or Holly. “Although the Oak ruled in the previous month, its counterpart, the Holly, takes over in July. This evergreen plant reminds us all year long about the immortality of nature. The Holly moon was called Tinne, pronounced chihnn-uh, by the Celts, who knew the potent Holly was a symbol of masculine energy and firmness. The ancients used the wood of the Holly in the construction of weapons, but also in protective magic. Hang a sprig of Holly in your house to ensure good luck and safety to your family. Wear as a charm, or make Holly Water by soaking leaves overnight in spring water under a full moon — then use the water as a blessing to sprinkle on people or around the house for protection and cleansing.” — Patti Wigington

“The Holly is best in a fight. He battles and defends himself, defeating enemies, those who wish to destroy him, with his spines. The leaves are soft in summer but in winter, when other greenery is scarce and the evergreen Holly is likely to be attacked by browsing animals, the leaves harden, the spines appear and he is safe. The old name for Holly is Holm, preserved in names such as Holmsdale, Surrey, whose motto is ‘Never wonne, we never shall’. With the coming of Christianity, the Holly became the Holy tree, the tree symbolic of the crown of thorns, so representing the fighting of the soul’s battles that eventually unites this life with the one that follows and, runs parallel.”

“The Holly is male, so symbolizing paternity and fatherhood. With the Ivy and the Mistletoe, the Holly has always been regarded as a potent life symbol, both for his year-long foliage and for his winter fruits. Concealed within the verses of the ‘Song of Amergin’, chanted by a chief Bard as he landed on the shores of Ireland, is the line ‘I am a battle-waging spear’ – the wood of the Holly was used in fashioning spear shafts.”

“What should the qualities of such a shaft be as it is hefted and thrown? The essentials are balance in the hand of the user and directness as it leaves the hand. This quality of directed balance shows that you will be enabled by this card’s guidance to find the strongest argument in your spiritual battle, providing the fight is just and not directed towards aggression and acquistiveness. Also, drawing this card will enable you to find the vigour to fight with balance and unity. Coming after the fertile and central Oak month of the Ogham calendar, this card provides and indication of what lies ahead in the second half of the year. This card can also indicate a lack of direction and balance. Without these attributes, you are not yet equipped to succeed in your present conflicts. You need to know more clearly what you are struggling with and how to combat it correctly in order to win through.”

The Witches Current Moon Phase for Tuesday, July 10th

The Witches Current Moon Phase for Tuesday, July 10th

Waning Crescent
Illumination: 10%

Tommorow the Moon will be in a Waning Crescent phase. In this phase the Moon’s illumination is growing smaller each day until the New Moon. During this phase the Moon is getting closer to the Sun as viewed from Earth and the night side of the Moon is facing the Earth with only a small edge of the Moon being illuminated. This phase is best viewed an hour or 2 before the sunrise and can be quite beautiful if you’re willing to get up early. It can also be a great time to see the features of the Moon’s surface. Along the edge where the illuminated portion meets the dark side, the craters and mountains cast long shadows making them easier to observe with a telescope or binoculars.

Your Daily Cosmic Calendar for Tuesday, July 10th

Your Daily Cosmic Calendar for Tuesday, July 10th

As revealed in the last two calendar entries, Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system, becomes motionless (10:04am) at 14 degrees of Scorpio. This significant celestial change is influential throughout the entire 24-hour time-period. Here are the key Jupiter archetypes on which to focus your attention: the power of positive thinking, goal-orientation, literary and educational pursuits, seeing the shape of things to come, providence and benevolence, good fortune, Big Business, long-distance journeys as well as pride, arrogance, hubris and overdoing a good thing. It is important to keep in mind that while Jupiter is no longer retrograde, it has virtually no forward motion for the next few days. Therefore, leaping ahead with all kinds of large-scale ventures may be premature in their efficacy. (Jupiter will remain in direct motion until April 10, 2019 when it will go retrograde at 25 degrees of Sagittarius.) Giving communications, literary and educational endeavors an extra boost is a supportive, 60-degree link from the moon in Gemini to Mercury in Leo (10:25am). Ceres trine to Saturn (6:07am) and then making a more confrontational, 135-degree tie to distant Pluto (2:43pm) puts an additional emphasis on properly dealing with matters concerning elders and children. A nearly 22 hour void lunar dispensation in Gemini begins at 1:01pm during a moon square to Neptune and this uncertainty cycle continues until the moon enters its natural abode of watery Cancer at 11:00am tomorrow.

[Note to readers: All times are now calculated for Pacific Daylight Time. Be sure to adjust all times according to your own local time so the alignments noted above will be exact for your location.]

In the Sky This Month

In the Sky This Month

Although July offers warm, dry conditions for skywatching, it also provides some of the shortest nights of the year in the northern hemisphere, limiting the hours under the stars. Fortunately, some of the best skywatching sights are visible in the early evening, not long after sunset. Venus reigns as the Evening Star all month, slowly climbing the western sky. Mercury peeks into view below Venus for much of the month, with the star Regulus close to both of them.

July 10: Sagittarius

The constellation Sagittarius climbs low across the south on summer evenings. Its brightest stars form the outline of a teapot. The center of the Milky Way galaxy lies just above the spout of the teapot, about 27,000 light-years away.

July 11: Solar Highway

The “solar highway” curves low across the south on July evenings, outlining the path the Sun will follow during fall and winter. It is marked by some of the brightest objects in the night sky, including the planets Venus, Jupiter, and Mars.

July 12: Mercury at Elongation

The little planet Mercury stands farthest from the Sun for its current evening appearance tonight. It looks like a fairly bright star quite low in the west as darkness falls.

July 13: Nurseries

Teapot-shaped Sagittarius is in the southeast at nightfall. The steam above the teapot’s spout includes two nebulae that are giving birth to new star clusters: M8 (the Lagoon Nebula) and M20 (the Trifid Nebula).

July 14: Evening Quartet

The Moon, two planets, and a bright star line up in the west as night falls. The planet Mercury is close below the Moon. Venus, the “evening star,” is to the upper left of the Moon. Regulus, the heart of Leo, the lion, lines up between the Moon and Venus.

July 15: Moon and Venus

Venus, the dazzling “evening star,” lines up close to the crescent Moon this evening. Venus shines so brightly in part because it’s quite close, and in part because it’s blanketed by brilliant clouds.

July 16: Delphinus

Delphinus, the dolphin, is in good view in the east at nightfall. This tiny pattern of stars really does look like a dolphin. Look for it swimming into view in the east as darkness falls, and climbing high across the south during the night.

Did You Realize There is a……

Friday 13th Comments

This Week!

Are you superstitious? Going to be hiding in the house Friday? I am not superstitious. I do, however, believe in a lot of folklore. Would you consider believing in folklore is being superstitious? Personally, I don’t. Anyway, Friday the 13th should be a great day for me. I had my Friday the 13th yesterday. Just a little tidbit about my day yesterday…….

Really I am killing time till the ladies send me more information for today’s posts. We are flying by our broomsticks because they were waiting on me to finish the banner for our chatroom. Now back to my day, I spent another day at the hospital. Nothing major, I found a tick, well I hate to say it but here goes, in my arm pit. Sorry, didn’t mean to gross you out but that was where it was. How it got there, I have no earthly idea. I got to itching super bad, in fact, I looked like a monkey scratching. Eleanor said, “let me look at that.” She did and screamed, “A TICK!” You would thought I had the flesh eating disease. Next thing, my ear got to itching. I immediately thought, “oh shit, another tick.” No, wasn’t a tick, it was one of my pearl earrings down in my ear canal. I have slept in earrings all my life. Never have I had one get stuck in my ear. So they pick the little baby Abyss up and off we go to the hospital. Removing the tick was easy but digging the earring out of my ear, hurt, oh did it ever! Moral of story: Keep your arms close to your body, don’t wave, motion or anything with your arm while outside and never, ever sleep in earrings.

Couldn’t believe that but it did happen. If it can happen it is going to happen to me. I guess with all the crap that has happened, I will eventually quit saying, “What could happen next?” Intermission is now over, back to the daily posts.

Love ya,

Lady A

The sky this week for July 10 to 15

The sky this week for July 10 to 15

The Southern Delta Aquariid meteor shower ramps up, Mars remains a stunning sight, and Pluto makes its best appearance of 2018, all in the sky this week.

Tuesday, July 10

Mars remains a stunning sight all week. It rises around 10 p.m. local daylight time and climbs nearly 30° high in the south by 2:30 a.m. Although the Red Planet won’t reach opposition until the end of July, it appears noticeably brighter than it did just a week ago. Shining at magnitude –2.5, it appears brighter than Jupiter and ranks as the second-brightest point of light in the night sky after Venus. If you point a telescope toward Mars, you’ll see its 23″-diameter disk and perhaps a few subtle surface features — though most of these are currently obscured by a major dust storm.

The waning crescent Moon rises shortly before 3:30 a.m. local daylight time this morning. Earth’s satellite lies next to the V-shaped Hyades — the large star cluster that forms the head of Taurus the Bull. The Moon stands just 1° northeast of Taurus’ brightest sun, 1st-magnitude Aldebaran. From parts of Canada and the upper Midwest, Luna passes in front of this ruddy star.

Wednesday, July 11

Mercury pops out of the twilight glow this evening as the sky begins to darken. Look for it 30 minutes after sunset, when it lies 9° above the western horizon. The innermost planet should be fairly easy to spot because it shines brightly, at magnitude 0.4. (Use binoculars if you can’t see it with your naked eye.) Mercury lies 26° east of the Sun tonight, its greatest elongation for this evening apparition. Through a telescope, Mercury appears 8″ across and slightly less than half-lit.

Thursday, July 12

Today marks the peak of Pluto’s 2018 appearance. The distant world reaches opposition, which means it lies opposite the Sun in our sky and remains visible all night. It glows dimly at 14th magnitude, however, so you’ll need an 8-inch or larger telescope with good optics to spot it visually. Pluto currently lies in northeastern Sagittarius, some 0.2° west of the 6th-magnitude star 50 Sagittarii.

New Moon occurs at 10:48 p.m. EDT. At its New phase, the Moon crosses the sky with the Sun and so remains hidden in our star’s glare. At least, that’s what it will do for more than 99 percent of Earth’s population. But if you find yourself between southeastern Australia and Antarctica, you can watch the Moon pass in front of the Sun and cause a partial solar eclipse. From Hobart, Tasmania, the eclipse lasts from 2h52m to 3h56m UT, and the Moon blocks 10 percent of the Sun’s diameter at maximum. Remember that when viewing the Sun during a partial eclipse, you need to protect your eyes with a safe solar filter.

Friday, July 13

The Southern Delta Aquariid meteor shower starts to ramp up this week. The shower won’t peak until the end of July, but you should see some of its meteors in the hours before dawn. The best time to look is between 3 and 4 a.m. local daylight time, just before twilight begins. Viewing conditions are great the remainder of this week because the Moon is out of the morning sky. Unfortunately, our satellite will show a fat gibbous phase at the shower’s peak the night of July 29/30. To tell a Southern Delta Aquariid meteor from a random dust particle burning up in Earth’s atmosphere, trace the streak of light’s path backward. A shower meteor will appear to originate from the constellation Aquarius the Water-bearer.

The Moon reaches perigee, the closest point in its orbit around Earth, at 4:25 a.m. EDT. It then lies 222,097 miles (357,431 kilometers) away from us. Since perigee arrives less than six hours after New Moon, residents of coastal areas can expect to see tides rise higher than normal for the next couple of days.

Saturday, July 14

A slender crescent Moon passes 2° above Mercury in this evening’s sky. Binoculars should deliver the best views of the pair set against a colorful twilight sky.

Sunday, July 15

The Moon moves approximately 13° eastward relative to the starry background every 24 hours, and that motion carries it near Venus this evening. The crescent Moon appears just 2° to the brilliant planet’s right. The stunning duo stands 15° high in the west 45 minutes after sunset. This conjunction provides a nice photo opportunity. If you shoot the twilight scene before 9:30 p.m. local daylight time, you’ll also capture Regulus to the lower right and Mercury even closer to the horizon.

Overview of the Planets and the Stars for Tuesday, July 10th

Overview of the Planets and the Stars for Tuesday, July 10th

Jupiter stations and turns direct today after four months of retrograde motion (since March 9th). Gradually over the next few weeks, matters ruled by Jupiter will move forward more straightforwardly. Our confidence in ourselves and the universe builds. Our faith and perspective expand, although as this shift occurs, issues can seem larger than life, and with a Solar Eclipse happening in just two days, life can feel intense. This direct turn can feel refreshing at a time when there is quite a bit of retrograde activity, in general.

Also today, we’re finding value in organizing and structuring our home life or relationships with family. Responsibilities to our loved ones are clear, and we readily accept them. Even so, tendencies to possessiveness or excessive attachment can be aggravated right now, which can drive the people or things involved away. We might try to resist urges to stifle, control, and manipulate others.

The Moon spends the day in the sign of Gemini, and our curiosity knows few bounds.

The Moon is void from 4:00 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Neptune), until the Moon enters Cancer tomorrow, Wednesday, July 11th, at 1:59 PM EDT.

Moon in Gemini

Moon in Gemini

The Moon is traveling through witty Gemini today. Call, text, send email, write letters. Visit someone you’ve missed. Watch a movie and talk about it at a coffee shop. Get out and about. Don’t sleep in.

Our instincts are to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.

The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, short trips.

Did You Think We Had Run Off? No, I Promised You A Chatroom & By George A Chatroom You Have

Ah, it’s been a day or two but the last time I talked to you, I promised you a Chatroom. We have several sites that we could have built the chatroom on but…..none of them would let me do what I wanted to do.  I found us a chatroom that could be embedded on our site. It is a terrific chatroom, you don’t have to log in, you can just show up and come in as anonymous or you can create a name and go with it. What I found most appealing about it was that it would let me get the size of chatroom I wanted (I mean big wise). Also this chatroom can hold hundreds of chatters at the same time, which I found most chatrooms can’t do that.  I really like this chatroom and I wanted it for us. I went to the original site I wanted to create it on but I ran into a problem. The pages wouldn’t expand to the size of the chatroom. I was disappointed to say the least. So I scratched my head and it hit me, the store. We are allowed to have extra pages to the store and those pages expand to huge sizes. I got busy and started building. As I was building I thought of another plus, we won’t have strangers coming into our site like we did last time. Last time we had people running in and hollering “Hail ISIS” and leaving. Then I started receiving death threats. So having this chatroom behind the store, I feel is a good choice because it is hidden from the public and only members will know when we are having chats.

I can’t wait to have the first chat. I was thinking about Saturday. I don’t believe there is any holiday or special occasion for that day. Oops! forgot to check the moon phase. Might change that if the moon is changing to a phase the Coven might be having their rituals. Anyway, I will let you know but for right now, if the moon is right, we will have a chat Saturday. It will be a very informal chat, a get to know you chat. We can talk, you can get to know me and if you have any questions I will be more than happy to answer them. Don’t worry I will remind you several times about it.

Now while you are waiting on us to get started, go check out your new chatroom. I hope you like it and I hope we have many chats to come in it.  See you in a minute. Till then….

Love ya,

Lady A

The above banner is at the bottom of the page and there is also a link in the main menu above to the chatroom.

Good Sunday Morning my dear sweet family & friends! May the Goddess Bless You & Yours This Beautiful & Blessed Morning!

Good Morning Sunshine
Good morning, my sweets! I hope everyone is having a very beautiful Sunday morning. I know I am. I am sure you all know about those poor boys and their coach in Thailand that have been stuck in a cave for over two weeks. I have watched with great interest and concern about these young boys and their coach since the story first broke. Since the time they were first announced lost till now their rescue, I have prayed and prayed and even begged the Goddess to break those boys and their coach out safely. This morning I woke up to the glorious news that the rescue was under way and 6 of the boys had already been rescued. To say the least, I cried. I know I am not the only one who has been praying for these young boys and their coach. With so much bad news in the world today, good news comes out of Thailand. Six of those boys brought out safely, what glorious news and an answer to so many prayers. Thank the Goddess for the wondrous miracle this Sunday morning. I think because I am a mother I have been so interested in their story. Also I have been in several caves in our area and to be in total darkness for that long, I don’t believe I could survive. I would suffocate in the darkness and panic. I couldn’t imagine one of my children being down in the ground so far and no being able to get to them. What agony these parents must have gone through. For some that is now over with, their boys are in the hospital and the families have been reunited. There are seven more to come out. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers that they will come out safely as well.

I can truthfully say this is the first morning in a long time I have woke up to good news from the broadcast companies. Most of the time there is talks of this getting blown up, a car bomber, a terrorist killing so many in a mall somewhere. It was just so refreshing and an answer to so many prayers that we received this news this morning. Thank you Goddess for giving us this blessing and answering so many prayers. Bring the rest out safely and let those poor, tortured parents nightmare be over with. If you have a minute today, say a little prayer for the rest of the boys yet to come out of the cave. Pray for their poor parents who have been put through this ordeal. Thank the Goddess for the brave and fearless rescuers. Pray that once they are out, they may continue their lives as normal and live very long happy lives. Goddess knows they deserve it.

That is not the only thing I wanted to share with you this morning. I didn’t want you to think we were goofing off. I am trying to dust off our old chatroom and get it up and running once again. I am hoping it won’t take very long. It shouldn’t all I have to do is replace our old chat with a larger one and then test it to make sure it is working. When I am finished with it, I thought perhaps you might want to chat a bit. What’cha say? Want to chat with the wicked witch of Kentucky, lol! Just kidding, I am far from being wicked. But just as soon as I get it up and going, I will let you know. I will post the link in a new post and put a banner up on the site so you can find it easily. The banner won’t be today but will probably be tomorrow. Right now the link will have to do. So to get this chat up and running I need to fly.

I will see you in a bit and hopefully talk to you in a bit. Till then…

Love ya,

Lady A

If You Were Born Today, July 7

If You Were Born Today, July 7

You are excellent at putting ideas into action and working hard for what you want in life. Recognition may at times make you feel uncomfortable or shy, but quiet recognition is a true motivator for you. You have a respectable, authoritative air about you. You can be a real worrier at times, but worry in healthy doses when achieved helps you to plan effectively. At times, you can be stubborn and a little controlling. Certainly, you often feel that one person is better than a group to get a job done. You are a builder and enjoy taking the lead, quietly. Famous people born today: Gustav Mahler, Ringo Starr, Shelley Duvall, Michelle Kwan.

Your Birthday Year Forecast:

With the Sun and Moon in harmony in your Solar Return chart, the year ahead should be satisfying and balanced overall. You are in comfortable demand and personally popular, and you are able to achieve a decent balance between work and play; personal and professional life. For the most part, you are on top of your game this year, and positive connections with others can be made fairly easily. With the ability to handle your emotions successfully, there is less stress on both your mind and body. Your self-confidence and positive attitude will reward you!

Even so, watch for impatience, especially with your communications. You may not always have follow-through when it comes to your projects as you may be experimenting with new ideas and hobbies. Watch for wasting too much time on new ideas if it comes at the expense of productivity. Ups and downs may lead to new commitments nevertheless.

You might often get frustrated if the results of your actions are not instant, but it’s best to cultivate some patience when it comes to realizing your goals. As well, if you are not getting the results you crave, consider that you might be aiming too high or too wide.

There can be a stronger tendency toward, or desire for, commitment and deep involvement in your relationships during this period. You may be taking love and/or friendship more seriously. There can be a willingness to make sacrifices if it seems the best way to make improvements in relationships and with money matters. You can be quite particular in your tastes, and better than usual with money and savings.

At the same time, you’re welcoming more spontaneity into your personal relationships, or at least some of them. You’re in excellent shape for social meetings and events as well as for situations that call for treating others with equality and respect. You are more courageous on a social level, and happily embrace the new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements as well as financial undertakings. This could be a good year for financial undertakings involving electronics, technology, the internet, metaphysics, and the arts, as well as group activities. You have a taste for the offbeat this year, and romance or friendship can enter your life unexpectedly, perhaps in a scenario that at least feels like love at first sight.

If there are health issues this year, look for blockages or constrictions since Saturn is involved with the Node.

Idealistic and humanitarian goals or impulses surface this year. Making connections with others from different backgrounds may figure strongly. Widening your mind through unusual or different experiences can be part of the picture. You more easily make personal sacrifices for what you believe to be the greater good this year.

Saturn forms an opposition to your Sun from February to November 2019. Saturn calls upon you to identify the weaker areas of your life and to fix or strengthen them. Take the time to sort out details, improve your work, and become more efficient this month. Taking a slow and steady approach to life is necessary during this period. Pushing too hard will likely lead to frustration and setbacks. Take it easy and work on self-improvement. Results are not immediate, but will eventually come and bring healthy rewards. Relationships may be (or seem) more challenging than usual while Saturn opposes your Sun. Fortunately, this is a quick pass transit, lasting only a month or so instead of the usual several months.

There can be some rebelliousness or assertions of independence in the year ahead. These may be necessary to break free from a limiting situation, but be mindful when/if making sweeping changes. With work, you’re expanding your interests in satisfying ways. Do watch for a tendency to communicate impulsively and to waste too much time on projects that don’t lead to something substantial. There can be increased steadiness and reliability in your social life, however, and some relationships (or a key one) improve happily.

2018 is a Number Seven year for you. Ruled by Neptune. This is a year of preparation, chance, and refinement. It is not a time of dramatic changes. Instead, it’s a year when reflection on the past is helpful, and when refinements to your life path should be made. It’s a good year to study and analyze. Unexpected twists to your life story and “chance” meetings are probable. Advice – take stock of your life in order to prepare for more exciting years to come, examine the past and plan for the future, get in touch with your deepest needs and uncover your personal power, don’t strain yourself or actively try to expand.

2019 will be a Number Eight year for you. Ruled by Saturn. This is a year of power and accomplishment. Actively seeking to expand, taking educated risks, and moving forward are highlighted. This is a year of opportunity, particularly in the material and business world, and opportunities need to be seized. It’s generally not a year to find a new love partner, simply because the focus is on the material world and your place in the world. This is a problem-solving year in which you can expect real, tangible results. Advice – take action, plan ahead, seize opportunities.

The Planet Earth is a Living, Breathing, School of Opposites

The Planet Earth is a Living, Breathing, School of Opposites

Whenever you wish for anything, person, place or thing, with your very first thought of want or need you push it away from you. The universe seems to distribute those funds elsewhere into miscellaneous needs and wants. Polarity is a two-way street, a coming and going, a receiving and rebuffing, a have and have not. While you are on earth, every thought has a counterpart, all light creates shadow. With each thought of manifestation, we are immediately drawn into an internal/external conversation with lack. Everything within us, as well as our outside world reflects mirrors and magnifies all the reasons that this manifestation cannot, will not, should not happen.

We wrestle the alligator of our primal earth needs to the ground every day in our mind and choices. Feeling successful just long enough for us to birth what we feel we need at that moment. Earth is like a holographic three-ring circus and in one of those rings the gator gets loose.

The planet Earth is a living breathing school of opposites and divisions. Plenty goes hand in hand with not enough. Rich dances with poor. Happy embraces sad.  Truth sits side by side with lies. Earth and her shadows play out amongst the populace. Mankind honors and sentries the polarity gods.  These polarity gods ride shotgun in the front seat of dreams and fears. Everything holds equal parts of the opposite as oneness is sought.

Earth is a school for gods in training, a spiritual boot camp, and a master’s haven. While you are on earth the foundations of humanness are stripped away to reveal all layers of time  Everything that happens to you is a master level learning, a gift that is considered to be priceless by universal standards.

Learning to manifest what the god within one wants and desires is a spiritual conundrum. To truly manifest and hold that manifestation in physical form you must come into union with the big God within. It is only from this original point of light, can you create at all. All else is a magic trick, a slight of hand, an illusion of sorts seeking a white screen to land upon.

July 2018 Astro-Energy Report – Truth Found in Darkness

July 2018 Astro-Energy Report – Truth Found in Darkness

All dates are UT so may vary in your time zone

July is a month of deep inner movement which, like a quake far below the earth’s crust, may well shake foundations, but is less likely to bring the structures of our lives crashing down. With up to six retrogrades throughout the month, two eclipses (one also a Supermoon) and Mars still on the South Node, our internal world is in the spotlight while the external one may disappoint. This is a time of profound and sometimes hard truths; of unrelenting forces of change which penetrate our psyches to reach the most intransigent parts of the shadow self. If we cling to falsehoods for security or resist the current evolutionary arc which emphasises the fertile complexities of darkness, we will struggle. But when we allow that darkness to deepen and enrich us, we can know peace like never before. Sometimes we must simply be endarkened, not enlightened, to know the truth.

This month emphasises the correlation between inner and outer. Shifts in perspective will bring about changes in circumstance, revealing just how deeply the observer impacts the event. There is no such thing as a ‘pure’ happening, only experience to which we assign meaning that makes sense of a complex world. But that ‘sense’ isn’t necessarily true. A semi-sextile between Chiron in Aries and Uranus in Taurus throughout July provides ample opportunity to observe the impact of our attitude upon life’s unfolding. Chiron demands an assertive response to challenge. It doesn’t have time to wallow in self-pity or detach into premature transcendence. It simply wants us to get over ourselves and move on! Combined with Uranus’s unremitting assault on the most inflexible parts of the psyche (which often harbour our deepest fears), this is a potent alliance which fosters new ways to respond to old problems and awakens the possibility for change where it’s long overdue.

Throughout July we can look fear in the eye, stand firm and refuse to be diminished. It’s okay to feel it. Everyone does. It’s completely natural. But it helps to know it as well as feel it. Notice its truths and its lies. Feel its heightened senses or its feathery fingers around your throat. Know that fear is part of you, not an external invader. We create fear with the stories we conjure about life, ourselves and other people, so pay attention to its triggers now. Where do you feel it in your body? Which thoughts and beliefs generate it and which help it subside? What’s the difference between healthy fear that protects your boundaries and diminishing fear that reduces your ability to make decisions and take an active part in life? Do you fear fear itself, acting obsessively to avoid encountering it at all?

Self-doubt may also be rife this month. We may feel lost or devoid of direction. But again, it’s okay to feel this way. It’s all part of the internal recalibration taking place. Doubt is often characterised as a hindrance, a limiting weakness. But right now it’s a subtle force of change, calling into question false certainties, and challenging assumptions. It introduces the new by dissolving investment in the old. Doubt creates space and the opportunity to look again at something so familiar we barely see it at all.

July begins with Mercury on the North Node until 5th, opposing Mars on the South Node. Interaction will get us a lot further than insistence! If you don’t like what’s happening around you, open lines of communication and begin a dialogue rather than stubbornly digging in your heels, insisting you know best. Be clear about what you want but stay cool when others seek different outcomes. Mercury turns retrograde later this month, providing plenty of opportunity to review and rethink. Whilst there might be a sense of urgency as the month begins, there’s actually more time than we think to reach an agreement that serves everyone, not just the few.

On 3rd July Chiron in Aries and Saturn in Capricorn form a square which lasts until the end of September. This square initiates us into deep time, where change takes as long as it takes and occurs in an instant; where all is perfectly whole and forever fragmented. Saturn in Capricorn oversees the passage of clock and calendar time, delivering outcomes and consequences from one moment to the next. Chiron in Aries steps outside of time, delivering rectification in the blink of an eye and new beginnings before the old has become dust. We arrive in this deep time of Chiron – which brings lightening-strike deliverance from long-term pain – by grace, not will; by faith, not intention. Saturn keeps our feet firmly planted in the ‘real’ world of responsibility, work and effort. It holds us to account, insisting we take charge of our lives. Chiron points to the mystery beyond Saturn’s pragmatism. We enter this mystery when we soften around life’s challenges, release the need to be in control and surrender to a universe which disregards our personal plans in favour of its own. The world still has its call upon us and we remain beholden to this human realm, but our spirit is free to connect across time with deeper truths that initiate us into a more vital relationship with the essence of life itself.

As the energy of this square intensifies in the coming weeks we’re drawn into the complexities of time and its evolutionary impact beyond the everyday. We may, for example, go to bed one night profoundly different to the person we were when we awoke. The very fabric of our life may be torn asunder by inner shifts that occur in a single day. Or a long-standing situation of great challenge may, in the blink of an eye, reveal its own solution hidden in plain sight just waiting for eyes to see. This square offers both challenge and hope: the challenge of stepping outside our ordered existence into no time and all time, and the hope of release from the twists and turns of our tiny mind which can make our days interminable and our nights hard to endure.

Chiron begins five months retrograde on 5th July, bringing the number of retrograde planets to six (Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Pluto being the other five). With so many retrogrades our energy is best invested in our inner life and not the outer world. Whilst we must still keep the plates of our lives spinning, we can be in the world but not of it for a while, allowing its hooks and seductions to fall away while we attend to the well-being of our soul. Between 5th and 11th July Neptune lends its support through a trine to the Sun, encouraging a gentle and compassionate response to life, softening us as we bump against its hurdles, helping us yield and in doing so stay strong.

Between 6th and 12th July Jupiter squares Mercury. In Leo, Mercury identifies deeply with personal opinion and engages with the world in a highly subjective way. Jupiter in Scorpio demands deeper exploration of the inner drives underpinning personal perspective. During this square we cannot get away with ‘because I said so’ or ‘don’t do as I do, do as I say’. Rigorous honesty is required, as is unflinching attention to our deeper motivations. With Mercury entering its retrograde ‘shadow’ on 7th July, consideration of what we say, why and how we say it becomes increasingly important, continuing to be so until the beginning of September.

Pluto opposes the Sun between 9th and 15th July, replacing the yielding energy of Neptune’s trine with something altogether more intense! Occurring as an eclipse season begins on 10th, we’re challenged to both own our power and relinquish it in equal measure. When action is needed, take it. When surrender is necessary, do it. The key lies in knowing the difference, for the times we need to surrender often feel like we should act, and sometimes when we need to act we’d rather surrender and let life (often in the guise of other people!) make decisions on our behalf. Pluto opposing the Sun confronts us with the issue of power, how we use it, where and why. Do we struggle to maintain control over others to stop them changing us? Do we deny our power, preferring a victim stance that absolves us of all responsibility, leaving us forever disappointed but always ‘blame free’? Do we focus so intensely on controlling the physical realm that we forget everyday life is a metaphor for something altogether more mysterious? This opposition confronts us with our influence on the unfolding of life and the extent to which we create our reality versus reality shaping us.

Also on 10th July Venus enters Virgo and Jupiter turns direct in Scorpio. This Venus finds joy in small things easily overlooked: the nuances of a single moment, the subtle dynamics that change the shade of an experience. She finds beauty in the minutiae so often missed and helps us do the same, while Jupiter illuminates the interplay of conscious and unconscious forces in our lives. Jupiter in Scorpio knows no fear. It simply seeks penetrating truth and passionate experience to foster deeper roots and more expansive aspirations. Each in their own unique way, both Venus in Virgo and Jupiter in Scorpio appreciate the necessity of light and dark, shadow and illumination, making them valuable allies during the eclipses to come.

13th July sees the first of them: a solar eclipse in the 21st degree of Cancer opposed by Pluto and occurring at a supermoon. This promises to be an intense eclipse with the power to shake deeply our internal foundations, especially those upon which we rely without a second thought. Emotional sensitivity will be greatly heightened as we encounter aspects of the self previously ignored or denied. Events may bring them to the surface, but they’re just as likely to emerge of their own accord, as consciousness expands to embrace the shadow self. Solar eclipses often augur unexpected events and this one is no exception, but this time the events may be largely internal. Our sense of identity, purpose and meaning may shift dramatically and with little warning, if not around the actual eclipse, during the months to come. What was, not so long ago, worth fighting for may lose its seductive charm to reveal an empty core. We may discover our motivation is not our own but instead co-opted from those who’ve left their footprints in our psyche without our being aware. Previously enjoyed kinship may feel a lot less like home, threatened by the emotions and impulses arising within.

A concomitant Grand Trine in Earth formed by Uranus, Saturn and Venus between 11thand 14th July will anchor us amidst any eclipse storms. Facilitating pragmatic responsiveness, it provides the resilience needed to shift intransigent emotions and behaviours when it’s their time to go. If the unexpected strikes stand firm, stay strong and know there are forces all around that will help you endure even the most dangerous and intimidating storms right now.

A quarter Moon in Libra on 19th July marks the halfway point between the solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse on 27th. Forming a T Square with the Sun and Eris, it affirms that the strongest relationships are built on a foundation of emotional independence coupled with courageous intimacy. We do not surrender to the other but to the relationship itself, whatever form it takes, allowing it to shape and change us even as we bring our own unique spirit and vitality to its formation. In the midst of an intense eclipse season, taking care of relationships is paramount, for in them we find and provide strength, even as it is equally vital that we stand apart when necessary and face life alone.

The Sun begins its month-long journey through its own sign of Leo on 22nd July, lifting us out of heavy emotion into a more buoyant state of mind. On the same day, together with Uranus and Mars, it begins to form a T square which remains until 28th. T Squares always come with pent-up energy. All the more so when Uranus and Mars are involved! They augur both intense creativity and destructive frustration, so we have an important choice to make: Do we respond to life’s provocations with stubborn assertions of our right to call the shots, or do we allow the unassailable force of life itself to take charge, flooding us with creative potential we could never conjure simply by sheer force of human will? Uranus in Taurus, at the apex of this T Square, is mobilised to shift the most obstinate aspects of human nature which block the current evolutionary flow. We cannot stop it. To try is simply a waste of time and effort. What we can do is surrender to it, allow ourselves to be immersed within its revolutionary power and become part of evolution, not its enemy! The personal is now as vital as the collective and how we respond to the minutiae of daily life is just as influential as events lauded on the world stage. Everyone has a part to play and no one is inconsequential in this unrelenting march into a future still balanced on the brink.

Mercury is retrograde in Leo between 26th July and 19th August. Aspecting Eris and Black Moon Lilith as it changes direction, it augurs intense exchanges and exhilarating insights in equal measure. There may be battles a plenty as we strive to uncover previously inaccessible and potentially life-changing personal truths. If you’re seeking honesty and openness at this time, be prepared to receive them full blast whether you like what you get or not! Truth may storm through our lives like a hurricane now, ripping all from its anchor. Once out of the box it won’t be neatly folded up and put away. But rest assured, we’re ready for this even though it may not feel like it! Whatever is revealed needs to be known. And if we’re hiding the truth – from ourselves or another – it may come crashing through our deceptions like a tsunami if we won’t let it bubble gently to the surface to be known.

A lunar eclipse in the 5th degree of Aquarius on 27th July (conjunct Mars in the T Square mentioned above) reveals the inner cause of outer conditions. Whilst we may rail against the unfairness of life, we experience nothing which is not characteristic of who we are. Which doesn’t mean we’re directly responsible for everything that happens to us. But it does illuminate the mysterious correlation between our inner world and outer experience which, as we live life more deeply, reveal undeniable reflections each within the other. This eclipse fires our passion whilst reminding us that objectivity can be a refreshing break when life is intense. If emotional storms abound, take a step back and breathe deeply. Remember, we are not in the eye of the storm forever and finding the still spot when turmoil reigns is a very handy skill to have in times such as these!

Around the time of this eclipse and in the months to follow, revelation of our deeper motivations will continue. If we’re pursuing agendas introjected from others or presiding social mores, this will become abundantly and undeniably clear. Childhood patterns, familial expectations so deeply rooted they feel like our own, dictates of society, religion, spiritual teachings past and present, all may shape us aside from our authentic spirit. This eclipse season, and especially this lunar eclipse, opens Pandora’s box of influences to reveal what’s really going on. It may not look pretty at first, but in the long run it will foster greater awareness and understanding, diminishing our capacity to be influenced by externals to serve agendas not our own.

Of course, it works both ways! Others may awaken to our influence and begin to resist what once felt like minds and hearts in accord. Offering space to each other to process and explore these internal upwellings will be a compassionate gift of great value now, although not one easily given. It can be deeply unsettling when the ground of significant relationships begins to shift and swell. Patience, with ourselves and each other, as we all navigate a changing interior will go a long way to reducing potential conflict that could do more harm than good. We still have one more eclipse to go (a solar eclipse in Leo on 11thAugust) so this process of unveiling is not yet complete. And with Mercury retrograde until the middle of next month, there will be plenty of opportunity to get to the root of things and recalibrate perspectives accordingly.

On 31st July, asteroid Vesta completes a retrograde journey begun on 9th May. This feels significant and supportive. Vesta, keeper of the hearth fire and the sacred flame, imbues us with hope and devotion to those causes which matter. She completes her retrograde passage in Sagittarius, the sign of faith and optimism, reminding us that attitude and perspective are crucial to how we experience life. If we decide there’s no hope, nothing will change (or too much is changing!), we can’t get what we want, we always mess up or everything is everyone else’s fault, we’ll reap difficult outcomes now. But if we embrace Vesta’s message – that even in the darkest hour, the tiniest flame of faith in life’s restorative power can light our way– we may be surprised at just how much changes in ways deemed impossible before.

It will be tempting to take life very personally at this point! And who wouldn’t? I mean…. life is a very personal experience! But it’s also an impersonal one, unfolding around and through us without consideration of individual needs, concerns and desires. The more we can appreciate the achingly intimate and expansively impersonal maelstrom that is life, the better we can act with power when necessary and relinquish control when we must, led by the innate intelligence of a life whose mysterious ways are forever beyond our understanding and yet seeded deep within our soul.
