March 28
The Sacrifice of Tombs/St. Mark’s Eve
According to the cosmological text, De Pascha Computus, written in 243 A.D., the sun and moon were created on Wednesday, March 28. This was also the date of the nativity of Jesus of Nazareth before it was changed by the Catholics at Rome, in 336 A.D., and again by the Orthodox at Constantinople 377 A.D.
March 28 was the date of the old Roman festival of The Sacrifice of Tombs, when the departed ancestors were remembered and honored, similar to present-day Catholic services in cemeteries on All Souls’ Day. This is also St. Mark’s Day, a time of divination, when the other world is a little more accessible than usual.
