Summer Finding/Marzenna/Dance of Salii

The Norse festival of Summer Finding celebrates the light of the sun becoming stronger and more powerful than the darkness.

The old Pagan festival of Marzenna is still celebrated in the Polish countryside with dancing, singing, and the burning of straw effigies to welcome back the Spring.
In ancient Rome, the priests would invoke the Gods Mars and Saturn by dancing with swords and clashing holy shields. It was believed this display of power and strength would drive the evil spirits of Winter back, thus allowing the new growth of Spring to blossom forth.
