Dear Ones, you are accustomed to your linear time and it serves you well. You are aware of your brain processing information based on your five senses and establishing reality for your choice platform. This is a valuable and natural process. Yet you are at a point in your evolution where you are expanding this process to include more of your natural subtle senses.

You have heard statements such as; time is not linear, all time is now, the past does not exist, and the future is probabilities that have already occurred. In theory, some of these may be partially or even completely correct. However, it has no true value for you until you apply it into your experience. Here, we will begin to give you applicable information to expand your sensory experience with time.

The Law of Resonance maintains your linear and sensory experience. This law will not change, however, you will change with it as your vibrational resonance changes. As with all life, you affect it and it affects you. The Law of Resonance states: that with which you are resonant, you are interacting. For example, when you are resonant with joy, you are joyful. Your spiritual journey is a path of finding your joy, and while others may show you marker points or pathways, you must walk the path and create your own resonance with joy.

In a moment, Life assists you as it pushes and pulls you toward joy. In another moment, it may feel as if Life abandons you, offering you sorrow, pain, or frustration. It is here where your choice platform presents what you have established as your possibilities. All the evidence from the past has been established into what possibilities are available for your future. With which possibility do you resonate?

We have entitled this message Stopping the Past to utilize your linearity and begin to expand it into its non-linear counterpart, the other side of the coin. For when you envision Stopping the Past, you are consciously and powerfully choosing to change your present. But we want you to include the past and claim your present power, for that changes your resonance. It does not force a façade to change, it creates new form (the future). Sometimes it requires the patience of Knowing All is Well, as invisible potentials are creating new form. That Knowing is a powerful resonance to maintain.

How do you Stop the Past? One may say, “It has already occurred, it is done, undoable and the present is reacting to it.” Instead of reacting, choose a new action. First, observe what has caused the present resonance. An action from another? An action from you? Inaction from one? Whatever it was, it is causing you to make a choice in the present—a powerful action that can create new form. A new future.

Here is where you seek appreciation for the past, for it has established the form that you are now. The gift of the present. It has caused your heart/mind complex to observe, experience and desire. The flow of form continuing. Desire, want, need—these are the pull of the future calling you to Life. Your suffering is as available to choice as your appreciation. What will you choose? Will you stop the joy or will you stop the suffering? Both reside on your platform of choice.

As you appreciate the past, you are opening a flow of resolution that creates a new resonance within you. To Stop the Past, starts a new future. As you appreciate, understand, resolve, heal or forgive—all powerful ways of saying a similar action; you are creating a new resonance in your now moment. You are opening a flow that wasn’t available before. You are preparing a new future with the powerful passive force of Love. The invisible realm is responding. Dear One, you are more powerful than you think. Feel your powerful ability to Love the past into a new future.

As we sit to Blast Stopping the Past, we are opening the flow of Love to appreciate all that has come before us. We are understanding the beauty of limitation as it causes us to observe carefully and completely until we understand new choices available. We are respecting the flow of time’s wisdom as it resonates with our highest good; for this universe of Life calls us to thrive. We are authentic in our feelings of the past, as our unique discernment brings detail and clarity to our platform of choice. We are bold, unrelenting in the power of our Love; for it has been so patient with our fears resolving. Where we once forgot to Love and found only hatred, we now see a sprout pushing through the concrete past. It is our Love. Will it flourish? Blast on!

Lord of Shadows

“Dread Lord of Shadows,
God of Life,
and Giver of Life –
Yet is the knowledge of thee,
the knowledge of Death.
Open wide, I pray thee,
the Gates through which all must pass.
Let our dear ones who have gone before
Return this night to make merry with us.
And when our tim comes, as it must,
O thou the Comforter,
the Consoler,
the Giver of Peace and Rest,
We will enter thy realms gladly and unafraid;
For we know that when rested and refreshed among our dear ones
We will be reborn again by thy grace,
and the grace of the Great Mother.
Let it be in the same place and the same time as our beloved ones,
And may we meet, and know, and remember,
And love them again.
Descend, we pray thee, in thy servant and priest.”

Samhain Lore

It is traditional on Samhain night to leave a plate of food outside the home for the souls of the dead. A candle placed in the window guides them to the lands of eternal summer, and burying apples in the hard-packed earth “feeds” the passed ones on their journey.

For food, beets, turnips, apples, corn, nuts, gingerbread, cider, mulled wines and pumpkin dishes are appropriate, as are meat dishes (once again, if you’re not vegetarian. If so, tofu seems ritually correct).

Samhain

(October 31)

Place upon the altar apples, pomegranates, pumpkins, squashes and other late autumn fruits. Autumn flowers such as marigolds and chrysanthemums are fine too. Write on a piece of paper an aspect of your life which you wish to be free of: anger, a baneful habit, misplaced placed feelings, disease. The cauldron or some similar tool must be present before the altar as well, on a trivet or some other heat-proof surface (if the legs aren’t long enough). A small, flat dish marked with an eight-spoked wheel symbol should also be there.

Prior to the ritual, sit quietly and think of friends and loved ones who have passed away. Do not despair. Know that they have gone on to greater things. Keep firmly in mind that the physical isn’t the absolute reality, and that souls never die.

Arrange the altar, light the candles and censer, and cast the Circle of Stones.

Recite the Blessing Chant.

Invoke the Goddess and God.

Raise your wand, face the altar and say:

On this night of Samhain I mark your passing,

O Sun Kin& through the sunset into the Land of the Young.

I mark also the passing of all who have gone before,

and all who will go after. 0 Gracious Goddess,

Eternal Mother, You who gives birth to the fallen,

teach me to know that in the time of the greatest

darkness there is the greatest light.

Taste the pomegranate seeds; burst them with your teeth and savor their sharp, bittersweet flavor. Look down at the eight-spoked symbol on the plate; the wheel of the year, the cycle of the seasons, the end and beginning of all creation.

Light a fire within the cauldron (a candle is fine). Sit before it, holding the piece of paper, gazing at its flames. Say:

Wise One of the Waning Moon,

Goddess of the starry night,

I create this fire within Your cauldron

to transform that which is plaguing me.

May the energies be reversed:

From darkness, light!

From bane, good!

From death, birth!

Light the paper in the cauldron’s flames and drop it inside. As it burns, know that your ill diminishes, lessens and finally leaves you as it is consumed within the universal fires.

If you wish, you may attempt scrying or some other form of divination, for this is a perfect time to look into the past or future. Try to recall past lives too, if you will. But leave the dead in peace. Honor them with your memories but do not call them to you.

Release any pain and sense of loss you may feel into the cauldron’s flames. Works of magic, if necessary, may follow.

Celebrate the Simple Feast.

The circle is released.

365 Days of Legends, Folklore & Spirituality for Oct. 30 – Punky Night

Punky Light

Around Hinton St. George, Somerset, just before Halloween, comes Punky Night. A punky-derived from pumpkin-is a hollowed out mangold-wurzel, with shapes cut through the sides of a lighted candle place inside of it to form a lanter. The local children paraded the streets with their punky lights and collect money as they chanted:

It’s Punky Night tonight.

It’s Punky Night tonight.

Give us a candle, give us a light,

It’s Punky Night tonight.

The parade ends at the Victory Hall for the judging of the best pumpkin. After the best design has been picked, the Punky King and Queen are choosen–usually the two who have collected the most money for charity.

It seems that long ago, the menfolk of the village went to the Chiselborough Fair, where they got drunk off cider and could not find their way home. So their wives made punkies and set off together to gather them home. Since then, Punky night has been an annual event.

“Fire has always played an important part at Samhain. It was very important to the Celts as it was to all early people. In the old days people lit bonfires to ward away evil spirits and in some places they used to jump over the fire to bring good luck. Samhain was a fire festival to the Celts and in Ireland, originally all fires were put out save the sacred one which was kindled by the old rubbing sticks method, branches were then taken to light all fires in the land. Pagans today include a fire outside if possible for our celebrations, or indoors a candle in a cauldron is used to signify this. Bingley in West Yorkshire used to have a reminder of Celtic customs at its October Fair, Parkin pigs were sold. The boar is a symbol of the Sun in Celtic myth and so the symbol originally honoured it at the time of going into the light. Apples are traditional at this time and if you cut an apple crosswise you will see the centre displays a 5 pointed star or pentagram, the symbol used by many pagans as a sign of their beliefs.”

“The eve of the New Year or Oidhche Shamhna was a gap in time. Thus, the spirits from the Otherworld could enter into our world. Rituals on Oidhche Shamhna include providing hospitality to the dead ancestors. They welcomed the dead with food and drink and left the windows and doors of their homes open for the dead to enter. But all spirits from the Otherworld were not good; there were evil spirits too. To keep evil spirits away from their home, they carved images of spirit-guardians onto turnips and placed them at the doors of their homes. As part of the festivities young people wore strange costumes and moved around the village, pretending to be dead spirits visiting from the Otherworld. The Celts believed that on the eve of New Year not only did the boundary between this world and the Otherworld dissolve, but the structure of society dissolved too. Boys and girls would dress up as members of the opposite sex and play pranks on the elders.”

The day of Venus, Friday takes its name from Frigga, the Goddess of Love and Transformation. She rules the spiritual aspects of people as they manifest on the physical. Because of this, Friday is sometimes thought of as unpredictable.

Magical aspects: love, friendship, reconciliation, and beauty. Friday has often been associated with relaxation as it is at the end of the week, but the good feeling that comes with Friday also has a lot to do with the fact that it is ruled by the planet Venus – The Goddess of Love. Lusterless relationships and disputes may be settled on Fridays with the aid of a spell to Venus and perhaps a small personal sacrifice.

Friday is also associated with Caribbean wealth spells and has been known to improve friendships, Platonic love and increase your desirability. Be careful what you wish for on Friday, Venus’ eyes could be smiling!

This is the proper day of the week to perform spells and rituals involving love, romance, marriage, sexual matters, physical beauty, partnerships, friendships, social activities, strangers, pleasure, music, incense, perfumes, nature, and arts and crafts.

“To many ancient people, the waning of the light signaled death. For example, in Welsh mythology, this is the day of the year when the God of Darkness, Goronwy, defeats the God of Light, Llew, and takes his place as King of the world. To this day in Japan, the equinox is celebrated by visits to the graves of family members, at which time offerings of flowers and food are made and incense is burned. The three days preceding and following the equinox are called “higan,” or the “Other side of the River of Death.”

Thoroughly clean, dust, tidy up, refreshen, improve, and add appropriate seasonal decorations to your home altar. This should normally be clean and tidy, however an extra cleaning before the Samhain celebration is a way to express your reverence, create a visible reminder of your thoughts and devotional practices, and to offer hospitality to the nature spirits, ancestors, and Shining Ones. If you don’t have a home altar, read some books and webpages about setting one up in your home or garden, and then establish one this holiday season.

Bury offerings in the ground such as apples, pomegranates, nuts, or valuables. Dig holes for the November planting of trees and shrubs in Zone 9. Participate in a underground sweat lodge ceremony. Explore a cave. Going into the ground, burial, entering the underworld, submersion in the earth or deep waters, spirit beings rising from graves, leaves decaying into soil, etc., are all part of Samhain Lore.

Friday’s Witchery

Love magick is a perennial popular topic. However, there is more to this topic than meets the eye. There are many enchanting layers here for us to explore on this day of the week. What about creating a loving home, or producing a loving and nurturing family? What about keeping your intimate relationships vital and on track? How about promoting happy, healthy, and enduring friendships? See, there is more to be considered than just the “You shall be mine…” type of fictional love spell.

Don’t forget that many of the deities associated with Fridays are also parents. So, yes, while this is the day to work on romance, sex, and love spells, there is additional magick to be considered here, which makes Fridays a more well-rounded and bigger opportunity for witchery than many folks ever truly realize. The truest, strongest magick always comes from the heart.

This is a time for remembering the Ancestors, honoring deceased members of your family, and remembering the cherished dead. Gather together a few pictures of your ancestors and place them on or near your home altar. Set out some offerings of food, drink or valuables to honor the dead. Visit and clean the gravesites of those who have passed away. Say some prayers for the souls of those who have passed into the Otherworld. Talk with your ancestors and bring them up to date about what has happened since they died on the earthly plane.
