Mercury Retrograde is Here to Help You!

This is an unpopular opinion, but I LOVE Mercury Retrograde. Yup, this transit that has been blamed for everything from computer snafus to failed ice-cream experiments (hey, it’s not Mercury’s fault if peanut butter doesn’t taste good in EVERYTHING).

My whole astrology chart has whole  lot of Mercury, so I feel it when my ruling planet is making its mischief.

Communications go haywire.
Stuff breaks down.
Travel plans go awry.
You forget shizz.

It happens.

And that’s a good thing.

Mercury is closest to Earth and the fastest moving planet in the solar system. This heavenly body “appears” to move backward 3-4 times a year for 3 weeks at a time, like clockwork. Yes, even though it feels random, Mercury’s cycles are three months apart, for three weeks at a time. VERY predictable and regular.

Mercury zips along faster than the Earth (about 4 times more zippy). Because Mercury travels faster than Earth, and unlike other planets, the speed of its orbit changes. When Mercury is at its furthest point from the Sun, it’s also at its slowest orbit. It appears to slow down and move backward when it periodically catches up to us, passing us by.

Every now and then, YOU need to slow down. Because Mercury rules our thoughts and governs communication, during its retrograde cycles, it’s an opportunity for you to SLOW DOWN and process your intuition, before you speed ahead with your plans. There are subtle intuitive messages you have missed that are vital for your soul’s purpose. Without taking the time to regroup, you would have overlooked them.

If it ain’t broke, it wouldn’t break

One of the biggest frustrations of Mercury Retrograde is when things break down. This is certainly frustrating at the time, however it wouldn’t happen if there wasn’t something wrong with it. Most likely, whatever has broken has needed your attention for a LONG TIME. It usually breaks during Mercury Retrograde if it wasn’t something that hasn’t needed your attention previously. Since the retrograde is your chance to catch up on whatever needs attention. That’s when it breaks.

You can thank your lucky stars you fixed it now, before it became dangerous.

The Universe is on Your Side

Things that you fix now (communication, computers, systems, appliances, etc.) will save you a LOT of time and money in the long run. If you remember that, you can be grateful and keep your sense of humor when it happens.

As you do that, you will feel lighter & brighter and more grounded in your true Self, your evolved Self.

10/6 ~ Mercury (communication) ~sextile~ Saturn (responsibility):

This energy is really good for being able to objectively see what needs to be changed, fixed or stabilized in your life or environment. One expression of this energy is a tendency toward depression or apathy, but a better expression would be facing what needs to be done and following through on what you have begun. You may feel the need to organize things at home or work, or perhaps take a class or workshop of some sort that will help you attain your current goals. Either way, be focused but not too serious – balance in all things. It’s when you focus on the lack & limitation that you feel overwhelmed and sometimes helpless. That’s not the point of this energy. It’s just time to take stock, shore up energy leaks, fortify boundaries and make changes accordingly.

10/6 ~ Mars (desires) ~oppose~ Neptune (vision):

These are two very diverse energies that have to compromise in order to strike a balance that will facilitate flow. It may be hard to decide what you really want and communication with others tends to go awry. This energy obscures things right in front of you, but can make very clear the consequences of past choices. It is best to own your choices and/or mistakes and do whatever damage control you can at this point. The one thing this combination of energies is favorable for is working in solitude on a project that needs completion. This will give you the energy to go the distance, as well as the tenacity to overcome obstacles which delayed you previously. If you end up in this mode, do your work, put the final touches on everything, wait a week or two before sharing it with others.

This energy can make you feel cool & detached with loved ones. It is time to ‘take stock’ of your relationships and really evaluate the level of balance between giving & receiving. Business or personal – relationships must have a balance of give & take. You may feel more aware of your true independence in life and start reevaluating the need for certain relationships in your life. This energy pushes you to dig for your own fortitude & determination to live according to your own values & priorities and current corrections or adjustments may be necessary. You may feel lonely, depressed or disconnected but it’s just the Universe forcing you to question or assess your current relationships, how you interact with others and how you allow them to interact with you. It’s good to periodically evaluate even the strongest relationship and check the foundation. Festival of Old Women, Mania

Annually on this day, the farm workers of Lithuania celebrate the Festival of Old Women (Nubaigai). The last sheaf of grain that is cut dressed up as an old woman and honored the Goddess of the harvest. Traditionally, there is a last fruits market with homemade bread, jams, and all types of freshly canned goods for sale. At the height of the day, there are games and sports for the young people to play. With the setting of the sun, there is a feast an a good deal of dancing and merriment into the week hours of the night.

On this day the Roman Goddess Mania (regarded as the mother of the Lares and the Goddess of death) was honored. At this time, the Mundus, a subterranean ritual pit believed to lead to the Underworld, was opened. The cover of the pit was regarded as the Gate of Hell. When lifted, the spirits of the Underworld were allowed to wander the streets of Rome. To help keep the spirits bay, small ugly images were hung as charms in offering to Mania.

They were all screaming, “the ends of days has started.” It amazes me how people are wishing for the world to come to an end. I  have to go back to my half & half up-bringing. I remember studying from a certain book that said, “no one would know the time of the last day of this earth.” In the Craft, you never hear mention of end of days. We never even think about it, we strongly believe in reincarnation. Well, at least I strongly believe in it because I have seen some of my past lives (oh brother, have I!).  I believe our souls go to the Summerland and when we are ready we reincarnate again. There is never a mention of the end of the world, NEVER! It’s another one of those things not in our vocabulary. I also believe it is used as a scare tactic to get those who have left mainstream religion to return to it. All I can say is that they need to walk just one day in our shoes and meet our Divine Mother.  Understand our beliefs, feel her love, her compassion and her blessings she bestows upon her children. Then perhaps their tune would change.

I know some of you are scratching your heads wondering why I am even bringing this up. It is because we have had a lot of members come to us from different faiths. Those faiths do talk about and described the end of days. I want to reassure the ones that come from those faiths, this is not the end of days. As Pagans, Witches, and Wiccans (I know I left a few out but I would fill up the page naming all of them), our Divine Mother promises us rebirth. I know this is a promise She keeps and I believe it is one of the greatest gifts we could ever have been given.

Events that are happening now in our world have happened in the past. No one knows why, all we can do is hope and pray for a good out come when these events occur. There are so many right now that need our prayers, our love, our support and most of all our strength. We have stood strong in other events like these, we have to stand strong once more. We have to pray that the tanker lost at sea, is found and their crew is safe. We have to pray for our brothers & sisters on the East coast. You might not realize it but we do have a large number of brothers & sisters over there. Pray the Goddess keeps them safe and well. Those who have already perished, pray that the Goddess guides them gently home in her loving arms. The Doctors Without Borders, pray for those that lost their lives and pray for their family and loved ones. Pray for the victims of the shootings in Oregon as they start the grieving and healing process. There are so many, I am sure I have left some out and I sincerely apologize for that. It is just overwhelming.

If there ever was a time for us to stand as one and ask the Goddess to bless our world and heal it, it is now. Take time out today to remember all those who are suffering both mentally and physically. They need our prayers and they need our Goddess. Please for the sake of mankind, say a prayer today for all of us.
