Individual Working
There are certain procedures which most practitions are prepared to acquire nowadays on an individual level which can also be used in group working. Whethe you work in a Kabbalistic manner, are Wiccan/Pagan or are simply interested in enhancing your own magickal working, certain techniques will be fundamental to your practice.
This is because the practitioners of old recognized that they — in their own way — were intermediaries betwen the Higher Being or Gods and the physical material world. Right from the beginning they needed some way of:
1. Feeling different while working magickally.
2. Defining those differences.
3. Marking a space in which they could work safely without interference from either malign powers or interfering humans.
It was often safer to work alone in those days, for there was little understanding by the ordinary person of either what the energies were or even how they worked. If a malign energy did manifest then it could be contained within the designated space; the practitioner was at his most powerful within that space and yet at the same time he had done all the was necessary to ensure that he was a fit vehicle for whatever he needed to do.
The rituals which were developed then have stood the test of time and be used today in much the same way. Indeed, as mentioned before, because the ritual have been performed so often for specific magickal purpose, they have developed an energy of their own and become powerful in their own right.
For example, the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram can be performed on your own to purify a room for further magickal work or meditation and also can be used for protection. It has a mught higher vibration than simply casting a circle, however, and in addressing the Archangels appeals to the highest authority for protection and assistance. Rather than appealing to the Elements, we now go to those beings or energies who are in charge of the Elements and make a direct appeal to them. When we use the old names we link into a stream off consciousness that quite literally has a resonance that causes a reaction within the universe. From the reaction there is a shift or response in everything in existence. Not only do we dignify the Archangels we dignify ourselves.
