Come from the heart in key discussions with loved ones in the hours preceding a lunar trine to Venus in Libra (9:40pm). Start preparing for the potent full moon that occurs on Sunday. Be aware that the moon trine to Venus (9:40pm) also starts a lengthy void lunar dispensation of over 24 hours that lasts until Pisces moon begins at 10:34pm tomorrow. Be a minimalist overnight to avoid launching projects that are not ready for implementation.

August ends with a potent, beautiful full Moon at 3 degrees of Pisces.

This full Moon brings emotions to the surface, where perhaps we can deal with them in new ways.

Or we could find ourselves dreaming of the past, yet finding something different there. Perhaps we’re ready to release something, or someone? Or maybe we feel like creating something new from our memories, histories, or the stories of our families and ancestors.

If we’ve had struggles or challenges, this can be a healing and inspiring full Moon. It aligns with one of the four Royal Stars of ancient Persia, Fomalhaut, in the constellation of Piscis Australis, the Southern Fish. This important star was called the Watcher of the South, and has symbolic links to the Archangel Gabriel.

Ancient Greeks aligned temples to the great mother goddess, Demeter, with the rising of Fomalhaut. Its meaning contains strands of magic, mysticism, and enchantment – together with a need to resist being bewitched by illusions, but to struggle to make visions and ideals manifest. This is a very Piscean message indeed – the two fishes can risk swimming too deeply, adrift in the world of imagination, or mind-altering substances, and are then unable to grasp reality. With all the purposeful energy around, it would be a shame to let things slip through your fingers.

Fortunately, we have some earthy energy around to ground us – Sun in Virgo opposite the Pisces full Moon is working harmoniously with Saturn in Capricorn and Uranus in Taurus. If you’ve got planets or points between 2-4 degrees in your personal horoscope you can, if you choose, benefit now – and during September.

Saturn represents tradition and structure, while Uranus in Taurus is an innovative builder, gardener, and re-inventor (or disruptor) of financial systems. This constructive blend of old and new is around throughout September. Our full Moon brings it to our attention now and during the next two weeks. Those Pisces ideals and visions are supported and encouraged by Saturn and Uranus – mix things up, make something real, avoid sacrificing yourself for some crazy dream of “the One” or “fame”.

The full Moon’s second fixed starry companion is Sadalmelek in the constellation of Aquarius, the Water Bearer. This very fortunate star favours life, creativity, and emphasises the skill and effort needed to make dreams come true. It’s a variation on the Moon’s main message.

So sweet full Moon dreams…. And why not write them down? They may carry a vital message for you from under the sea.

The Moon today is in a Waxing Gibbous phase. This phase is when the moon is more than 50% illuminated but not yet a Full Moon. The phase lasts round 7 days with the moon becoming more illuminated each day until the Full Moon. During a Waxing Gibbous the moon will rise in the east in mid-afternoon and will be high in the eastern sky at sunset. The moon is then visible though most of the night sky setting a few hour before sunrise. The word Gibbous first appeared in the 14th century and has its roots in the Latin word “gibbosus” meaning humpbacked.

A Simple Chalice and Offering Plate

During rituals is it common to have a drink and something to eat that you share with the God and/or Goddess you call upon to help you give more strength to your spell and/or ritual.

A “chalice” does not have to be an expensive or even inexpensive vessel like looks similar to or is a wine glass. The offering bowl or plate does not have to be a certain size or shape or even have a particular design on it. Here again, we come to the part of me telling you a simple and pretty inexpensive way of having both items.

There are tea/coffee mugs sold that come with a lid to help keep your beverage hot and/or to set your used tea bag on. I have one with a Chinese design that I use often when I am using the smaller space I have for an altar in my…

Most know Stonehenge for its circle of towering, seemingly immovable monoliths, but perhaps lesser known is that during the site’s early days, it mainly functioned as a cemetery. Thousands of years after the first interments at Stonehenge, the dead are finally revealing their secrets—and, according to a new study published in Scientific Reports, the biggest revelation is that many of those buried at the site originally came from some 140 miles away in western Wales.

Ancient writing systems and their meanings absorb scientists who dedicate years of work to deciphering and sorting through arguments to determine the true meaning and purpose of writings. The latest news is that a clay disk about 15 cm in diameter from thousands of years ago has been decoded. ZME Science reported that Gareth Owens of the Technological Educational Institute of Crete (TEI) said some key words were figured out as well as the general message conveyed. The disk is of fired clay from the Minoan palace of Phaistos on the Greek island of Crete. Owens said, “The best-known Minoan inscription is the Phaistos Disk. It is commonly accepted that this can be read spirally, i.e., from the rim inwards.”

One of the stranger ancient scripts one might come across, Ogham is also known as the ‘Celtic Tree Alphabet’. Estimated to have been used from the fourth to the tenth century CE, it is believed to have been possibly named after the Irish god Ogma but this is debated widely. Ogham actually refers to the characters themselves, the script as a whole is more appropriately named Beith-luis-nin after the order of alphabet letters BLFSN.

DESCRIPTION

The script originally contained twenty letters grouped into four groups of five. Five more letters were later added creating a fifth group. Each of these groups was named after its first letter. There are some four to five hundred surviving ogham inscriptions throughout Britain and Ireland with the largest number appearing in Pembrokeshire. The rest of the inscriptions were located around south-eastern Ireland, Scotland

Photographer Katarzyna Majakdiscovered a whole new side of Poland when she set out to explore her own spirituality.

It turns out there are lots of modern-day witches, who practice a collection of non-traditional religious and spiritual practices including spiritual healing, shamanism, Wicca, Druidism, and other revivals of Pagan traditions. (Witches are found in the U.S. too, with an estimated 1.2 million people following Pagan beliefs.)

Majak shared a few of these “women of power” with us. Check out more of her work at the Porter Contemporary Gallery.

Over 90% of Poland is Catholic. Because of the country’s conservative values, many women pursue witchcraft and other pagan traditions as an outlet for an alternative spirituality.

ogham alphabetogham stoneThe ancient Ogham script (pronounced ‘oh-am’) is most often found on Ogham stones that date back to the third century. Most examples of the writing is found on Ogham stones of which there are over 350 found mostly in southern Ireland as well as in Scotland, the Isle of Man, Cornwall and Wales.

The transition to the use of the Roman alphabet took place about the sixth century. Most examples of Ogham writing confer the name of person that they represent, thus the stones are often memorial symbols.
