The Hermit

July 3rd, 2015

The challenge of what has traditionally been known as the Hermit card is to be able to recognize a teacher in a humble disguise. This font of mysterious knowledge will not make it easy for the student to acquire his wisdom, as it takes time and long contemplation to fathom what he knows. He often speaks wordlessly, or in ancient and barbaric tongues, communicating with the elements, animals and Nature herself.

While the hourglass was an identifying feature on the earliest Hermit cards, more modern ones have shifted the metaphor, showing more or less light released from his lantern. In either case, the Hermit card reminds us of the value of time away from the hubbub of civic life, to relax the ego in communion with Nature.

Monthly Tarot Card Forecast: July 2015

Monthly Tarot Card Forecast: July 2015

Find out what this month’s 3-card Tarot reading means for you!

Hi, I’m Brigit Esselmont, professional Tarot reader and teacher, and I’m here to share with you today the Tarot Card Forecast for July 2015. Now as always I’ve drawn three cards for this month ahead, and the first card is around blessings, the second card is around the challenges for the month, and the third card is kind of like a recommendation for what you can do to make this a fabulous, fabulous month. So let’s get into it…

Blessings Card: Three of Wands, Reversed

We start with the Three of Wands Reversed as our Blessing. Now, when we look at this card upright we can see this man and he’s standing on a hill and he’s looking out across the ocean where he’s seeing some ships passing by and there’s another land far, far away. And, to me this is a card about: one, kind of like expanding new horizons, but two, thinking about what comes next. What’s next in your journey? Where will your travels take you next?

And certainly when we look at the Three of Wands but in the reversed position, we know that this card is about looking to expand your horizons, but on a more personal and private level, hence the reversal of this card. So the blessing here in the month of July is that you’ve got the opportunity here to re-evaluate and reassess your own personal goals, and particularly on the level of your spiritual goals or your personal development goals — that’s certainly captured in this being a reversed card, and the Wands. So I really do encourage you this month to really think about:

  • Where is it that I’m heading?
  • Is this right for me?
  • Are my goals truly aligned to what I know of my soul’s purpose?

Now you might get to a point where you go, “Oh my goodness you know what? I was heading on this path, but now I realize that in fact I need to be heading on this path, and maybe I’ve just taken the wrong turn, and the last few months have been a complete waste of time.” I really want you to know this, that it’s not a waste of time. In fact, you are exactly where you need to be. That’s the really important thing to think about here. So even though you might need to take a slight change in direction, it’s all meant to be, that’s just the way it’s meant to be. And so, I really encourage you to feel OK about changing your path and changing your direction with that card. Now let’s have a look at our Challenges for this month…

Challenges Card: Five of Wands

And we’ve got the Five of Wands. Now if you have a look at this card you’ll notice that there are five people clashing and fighting. Now, this is clearly a card of conflict, tension, disagreement, and so on. So, I’m so sorry but I think for the month of July, it’s likely that you’re going to find yourself in a position where you disagree with the opinions of other people, and things can get a little bit heated. So you might find yourself in a couple of arguments, surrounded by conflict, rubbing people the wrong way… Some of this is a bit out of your control; you know sometimes there are folks out there who will just get upset no matter what you say. But if you find that there’s a way for you to find more of a compromise, I suppose, then I really do encourage you to take it.

Because I think tempers can easily get pushed over the edge this month, and people will seem to be getting a little bit protective of their thoughts and opinions, so the more that you can take a more peaceful approach, the better. So just watch out for those potential conflicts and tension, and see how you can make the most of it by bringing about peace and calm. And just remember: diversity in opinion is OK, but it’s about creating a constructive environment for that to happen in. So, make sure you’re the bigger person and you’re creating that very constructive environment.

Recommendation Card: Death

Now our last card is about what we can do this month in order to manifest the goals that we truly desire. And I’ve drawn the Death card. Now, I know there are probably some of you looking at this going, “Oh my goodness, what does that mean? The Death card, that sounds terrible…” Trust me, this card is OK. It doesn’t have to be a scary card. In fact the Death card is all about change and transformation. So as you’re looking to this month ahead, think about:

  • What are some of the layers I can let go of this month?
  • What is no longer serving me?
  • What new things can I allow to come forth?

And I think this is a really lovely card to look at against the Three of Wands Reversed. The reason for this is remember with the Three of Wands Reversed, we may be reassessing our goals, and reassessing our path, and I want you to know that with the Death card, that that’s OK. In fact, that’s actually a really good thing if you’re saying, “I’ve been following this path for a while, but I know that it’s no longer really fitting into where I really want to head in my life, and so I’m going to shed that skin.” And that’s OK. That’s a good thing. That’s what’s going to create an amazing, fabulous month for you — if you can let go of what’s not serving you.

And certainly with the Death card, it’s also a sign that change is coming through whether you like it or not. And we can choose how to respond to change. We can choose to resist it and go, “Oh I don’t know, I like everything that’s set,” or we can say, “Yeah, change is as good as a holiday. I can deal with change.” So I really encourage you to embrace the positive aspects of change this month and look for opportunities to create transformation, particularly as it relates to your goals and your personal spiritual goals this month.

So, with that, I wish you the very best for this month ahead. I hope you have an absolute gorgeous month, and I look forward to connecting with you again very soon.

Your Daily Tarot Card for July 1 is The World

Your Personal Daily Tarot Card

The World

Like The Sun, The World brings good blessings. The World appears where all is in balance. It allows you to act effectively not only as an individual but as a member of a group too. The World promises contentment, fulfillment and completeness to those under its influence. It doesn’t guarantee there will not be moments of strife or discord in your life, but it does indicate that your trials and tribulations will be overcome; that ultimately you will know inner-peace and contentment. The World suggests you have found or will find your place in our Universe—that place where all is as it should be.

Your Daily Tarot Card for June 6th is Judgement

Your Personal Daily Tarot Card

Judgement

Judgment embodies those forces which require us to be accountable for our actions. With Judgment truths are revealed, mysteries are unraveled and responsibility is assigned. Judgment unveils outcomes and marks the ends of things. While it is a time to properly place guilt, it is also a time for atonement and forgiveness. Ultimately the process of Judgment should lead to freedom from errors made in the past and a fresh start with a clean slate. To that end Judgment actually promises the start of a new journey on which we can apply what we have learned from our past

Tarot Card of the Day

The Moon

May 18th, 2015

What has traditionally been known as the Moon card refers to a deep state of sensitivity and imaginative impressionability, developed within a womb of deep relaxation. Here we dream and go into trance, have visions and receive insights, wash in and out with the psychic tides, and experience deep mystical and/or terrifying realities beyond our ordinary senses. The full moon and/or eclipse cycle charted by the Magi (as in some of the earliest Moon card images) exemplify this as a mechanism that Nature uses to expand consciousness.

The variants of the courtly lovers (representing skillful use of the sex force) or the man sleeping it off under the tree (use of drugs to alter consciousness) are also traditional avenues for tapping this primal force. Human interest in higher states propels us to the frontiers of consciousness, where we cannot always control what happens. The Moon card represents the ultimate test of a soul’s integrity, where the membrane between self and the Unknown is removed, and the drop of individuality reenters the Ocean of Being. What transpires next is between a soul and its Maker.

These cards represent elements that favor you

Death

First and foremost Death does not specifically pertain to our physical death. The Death card marks ends and beginnings. Although most illustrations of the Death card tend to be morbid, the forces behind the Death card are actually quite exciting. Yes Death does mark the end of something. But ends are often brought about by completion and not loss. Most endings are actually good, and make room for us to begin new adventures.

When The Tower is among your personal cards, the influence of Death may be increased. Having The Fool or The Empress in your personal cards may diminish the influence of Death.

The Emperor

The Emperor is gifted with the skills to successfully lead others. He can turn chaos into order, provide structure to that which is unbound. He is quick of mind and confident in his power and right to rule, and does so in a just manner. Although stern by nature, he truly is the ultimate father figure. He will provide as needed, teach those with unanswered questions, protect the vulnerable, set and maintain boundaries. His perfect world runs on schedule and is free of any disturbances. What the Emperor must be wary of is setting boundaries and rules where none are needed. If he isn’t he may well become a tyrant.

When The Hierophant or Justice are among your personal cards, the influence of The Emperor may be increased. Having The Empress in your personal cards may diminish the influence of The Emperor.

Your Lucky Tarot Cards for the Day

These cards represent elements that favor you.

Justice

Justice signifies the principle that although things sometimes seem askew the Universe is ultimately fair. We may not see or understand why things happen, but most of us sense there is in fact a reason and that balance exists even when we cannot see it. Justice denotes fairness regardless of who you are. At its purest the forces embodied by Justice give us the power to see without bias, and the courage to be accountable for our actions. These powers also test our faith at times. These powers also give us the tools and strength to fight injustice in our everyday life. All we have to do is use them.

When The Emperor is among your personal cards, the influence of Justice may be increased. Having The Devil in your personal cards may diminish the influence of Justice.

The High Priestess

Completely feminine and the counterpart to The Magician, the High Priestess is the Gatekeeper of the subconscious, the unknown. She travels in worlds which most of us only glimpse in our dreams. Her realm is that of unseen truths, untapped potentials, and hidden dangers. The Calling of The High Priestess is to go beyond the obvious and visible to tap those powers which are veiled from normal vision. While she is passive by nature, she has the power to uncover unknown potential and is very aware of the infinite potential all humans harbor within them. She is also very patient. She can wait for events to blossom in their own time.

When The Hermit or Hanged Man are among your personal cards, the influence of The High Priestess may be increased. Having the Magus in your personal cards may diminish the influence of The High Priestess.

Tarot Cards of the Zodiac

Tarot Cards of the Zodiac

Each zodiac sign is linked to a Tarot card

Each zodiac sign is linked to one of the Tarot cards in the Major Arcana. Most of these powerful cards have images of archetypal figures that represent the essence of a type of person. Animals are also used to portray human characteristics.

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

Your Tarot card is The Emperor, the guy who will always be there when you need him. This card represents your sign’s loyalty and ability to stick by your friends through thick and thin. Like the royal figure on your card, you use your authority and analytical powers to help others and to achieve your goals.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Your card, The Hierophant, represents learning from knowledgeable teachers who can help you search for higher truths by exploring tried and true traditions. Sifting through the superficial, these learned souls can lead you to the heart of matters where profound insights reveal important life lessons.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Every Gemini is blessed with a dual nature represented by your Tarot card, The Lovers. Turning points for you often involve making a moral choice between taking the high or low road. This card encourages you to weigh your options carefully and follow the path dictated by your personal integrity.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

You stand proud and strong as you guide The Chariot on your card, steering a steady course and rising above life’s conflicts. Even though Cancers seek security, you also love the freedom of the open road where you can use your highly-developed intuition to win the race.

Leo (July 23 – August 22)

The Strength card represents your physical strength — like that of the mighty Lion on your card — as well as your emotional, mental and spiritual prowess. Like the Lion, you are blessed with plenty of courage, which helps you overcome problems and obstacles.

Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22)

Like The Hermit, you often need to slow down and go within to focus on your purpose in life. The image on this card — an old man — represents a person who is weary of the outer world. When he retreats to explore the mysteries of his inner life, he becomes open and innocent like a child.

Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22)

Justice holds the scales, asking you to weigh your desires against your needs. In order to reach a fair outcome, you must put your feelings and emotions aside. When you reach the light at the end of the tunnel of indecision, you will be able to serve the greater good.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21)

Like your Tarot card, Death, you welcome transformation. You often shed your skin like a snake, seeking to release your spirit and be reborn. Because you are able to detach yourself from the ties that bind others, it’s easy for you to change your identity, making you the mysterious person everyone wants to figure out.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)

Like your card, Temperance, you are a gifted mediator, able to find common ground by balancing out judgments with genuine understanding and awareness. Like a steadily-meandering stream, you work your way through whatever difficulties get in the way.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19)

The Devil card encourages you to face your shadow-self in order to gather the knowledge necessary for spiritual transformation. It advises you to reflect on any negativity that has made you doubt yourself, swap it for confidence and hold fast to your highest vision of who you are.

Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18)

Your card, The Star, focuses on your optimism. When you wish on the stars, you really believe you can achieve your heart’s desires. Your job in this world is to convince others they can too, thereby helping to lead them home in a spiritual sense.

Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20)

Like your Tarot card, The Moon, you are a creature of ever-changing moods. You do best when you attune to nature’s cycles and use them to refresh your intuitive powers. The Moon rules emotions, which are your strong suit, especially when you use your compassionate nature to help others.

Your Daily Tarot Card for June 26th is The Devil

Tarot Card of the Day

The Devil

May 15th, 2015

What has traditionally been known as the Devil card expresses the realm of the Taboo, the culturally rejected wildness and undigested shadow side that each of us carries in our subconscious. This shadow is actually at the core of our being, which we cannot get rid of and will never succeed in taming. From its earliest versions, which portrayed a vampire-demon, this card evoked the Church-fueled fear that a person could “lose their soul” to wild and passionate forces.

The image which emerged in the mid-1700’s gives us a more sophisticated rendition — that of the “scapegoated Goddess,” whose esoteric name is Baphomet. Volcanic reserves of passion and primal desire empower her efforts to overcome the pressure of stereotyped roles and experience true freedom of soul. Tavaglione’s highly evolved image (Stella deck) portrays the magical formula for harnessing and transmuting primal and obsessive emotions into transformative energies. As a part of the Gnostic message of Tarot, this fearsome passion and power must be reintegrated into the personality, to fuel the soul’s passage from mortal to immortal.

Summer Tarot Cards

Summer Tarot Cards

Which Tarot cards will bring you the most inspiration and opportunity in the summer season?

The Tarot is full of symbolism, associations, and deeply rooted connections to our lives. In Astrology, Summer is associated with the Summer Solstice and the signs Cancer and Leo — but what Tarot cards are associated with this warm, sunny season?

There are actually three Tarot cards of the 78-card Tarot deck associated with Summer! Naturally, The Sun is one them. And the card associated with Cancer, The Chariot, is another. But did you know the real summer Tarot card is the Page of Wands?

Page of Wands IS the Summer Tarot card!

In a Tarot deck, the whole suit of Wands (sometimes called Rods or Staffs) is associated with the element of Fire, and therefore connected to the summer season. The Wands Tarot cards are all about action, energy, and movement — things we all seem to have a little more of when the sun is out…

Each Minor Arcana suit has four Court cards — the Page, Knight, Queen and King. As the first of these Court cards, the Pages represent youth and new beginnings. Think of the Pages like the Cardinal signs of Astrology — the four zodiac signs that start the seasons. Each Page represents the ushering in of a new season too, and the Page of Wands is the card that brings us summer.

The Page of Wands is full of inspiration, adventure, and possibility. You could be blessed with wonderful opportunities in the summer months!

Let’s check out some other cards deeply connected to the summer season…

The Sun…

It would be impossible to look at The Sun Tarot card and NOT think of summer. Usually featuring a bright yellow sun, this card represents life, vitality, energy, and joy. Most Sun Tarot cards also depict one or more small children, signifying youth and beginnings, just like the Pages.

The Chariot…

While The Chariot Tarot card doesn’t represent the entire summer season, it is very connected to the first month of summer! The Chariot is the Tarot card associated with the zodiac sign Cancer — the Cardinal, or first, sign of the summer season. While the Sun is in Cancer from June 21 (the Summer Solstice) to July 22, the tenacious and focused energy of The Chariot energy is strong.

Your Personal Tarot Power Cards for June 24th

Your Power Cards

This reading represent strengths you were born with.

Strength

Strength denotes an inner power, mastery of will and development of inner might. Through mastering one’s emotions and learning from both success and failure the person Strength represents has reached a place where they are influential without applying physical force, able to weather the roughest of storms, and not likely to abandon the less fortunate. Strength also denotes a large capacity for forgiveness and compassion. Strength is not as much about winning as it is about overcoming hardship, and using well crafted persuasion to ease others to your side.

When The Hanged Man is among your personal cards, the influence of Strength may be increased. Having The Chariot in your personal cards may diminish the influence of Strength.

The Fool

This card represents the dreamer in you, the idealist, the mystic. The Fool desires to do great things, but is often unaware of just how difficult great things are to do. He must always be very careful of the choices he makes, and remember knowledge is his ally. The Fool often symbolizes a new beginning, unrestrained optimism, and curiosity that hasn’t been dulled by time. While The Fool may well indicate a lack of experience or grasp of the pitfalls along the path he is taking, it is equally true that his lack of experience leads him to believe all things are possible, which brings even impossible goals within his grasp.

When The Hanged Man or The Star are among your personal cards, the influence of The Fool may be increased. Having The Devil in your personal cards may diminish the influence of The Fool.

Your Daily Witches Rune for June 23rd is Woman

Today’s Witches Rune

Woman

Meaning: The first meaning of this rune is quite obvious: it represents women. Any woman that is important in the question, whether you know her or not, will be represented by this rune. Mother, sister, aunt, grandma, a female boss, friend, lover or even enemy… all can be symbolized by the appearance of this rune.

In a more general sense, this rune is related to traditional female abilities and characteristics, such as giving birth, nurturing, comforting and healing. When this rune appears, you can count on the sympathy of others towards you or your situation. In its most negative aspects, the Woman rune can show over-protectiveness, a patronizing attitude or co-dependency. It often strives to maintain the status quo, refusing to change even if the situation is bad.

The Woman rune is connected to nurturing – nurturing a relationship, a person or a project. Like the Moon rune, it can be related to finding a safe place to rest and heal, but while the Moon implies a solitary retreat, the Woman often shows that you need to go back to the people you trust, the people you feel safe with.

Healing is another strong aspect of this symbol, as well as teaching. You can be both the patient/student or the healer/teacher when this rune appears. This rune is also connected to creativity, but in a way that is different from the Romance rune. While the latter is about the conception of a project – the initial stages of creation – the Woman is about the birth of this project. When your creation is brought out into the world, fully manifested.

In relationship readings, this rune isn’t bad, but rather weak. While it can indicate subtle ties between people, these are usually so, so subtle that the partners can easily drift away from each other. It can show that one of the partners sees the other as someone who needs to be protected and healed, rather than an equal. Usually, the romance is a bit stagnated when this rune appears, or very close to becoming a friendship.

The World

Like The Sun, The World brings good blessings to your set of personal cards. When Temperance or The Sun are among your personal cards, the influence of The World may be increased. Having The Hermit in your personal cards may diminish the influence of The World.

The Empress

The Empress is “The Earth Mother” of the Tarot. She embodies all that is nurturing, clean and wholesome. Her powers resonate from her drive to create and care for life on a grand scale. She is in tune with Nature’s rhythm and realizes that life’s most pleasurable moments often stem from the simplest things. She is not afraid to enjoy herself–to let loose—to the point of being lavish. Abundance and luxury are important to her. The Empress is completely comfortable with her femininity and her sexuality. She is sensual, earthy, generous, and likes the good life. Still, her driving force is a need to create and nurture, and fulfilling this need overrides everything else.

When The Lover or The Star are among your personal cards, the influence of The Empress may be increased. Having the Emperor or Death in your personal cards may diminish the influence of The Empress.

Your Lucky Tarot Cards for Sunday, June 21st

Your Lucky Tarot Cards

The reading represent elements that favor you.

The Hierophant

The Hierophant represents the protector of a culture’s heritage and traditions. His purpose is to defend and teach the established ways and beliefs a group embraces. He is inherently conventional and a true believer in the power of the group. He loves the structure of the group and its values. It is the task of The Hierophant to bring new members into the group—to prepare the uninitiated to take their rightful place in his culture. In this sense he is very much like a teacher or a priest. He also acts as the repository of his group’s history. The Hierophant is certainly not one to buck proper authority. However, he is staunch and worthy defender of the tried and true. He represents the positive aspects of conformity.

When The Emperor is among your personal cards, the influence of The Hierophant may be increased. Having The Fool or The Lovers in your personal cards may diminish the influence of The Hierophant.

The Lovers

The Lovers indicates both the most powerful of unions and the most of challenging conflicts humans must face. On one side The Lover’s embodies love and union on a cosmic scale—a love so strong, so inherently good that it actually makes the lovers better, more than they really are. All of the elements are there for the perfect union. The Lovers represent all powerful unions in general, and the elements that create/sustain them. The problem The Lovers face is temptation and the decision to act morally or abandon their ethics to take advantage of other opportunities that would be defined as transgressions.

The Lovers’ influence is increased when The Empress is among your personal cards. Having The Hierophant or The Hermit in your personal cards may diminish the influence of the Lovers.
