Inspiration for the Week – What is True for You

Inspiration for the Week – What is True for You

The Gabriel Message Card for this week:

Resonate with what is true for you and leave the rest.

There is so much information coming at us right now that it is difficult to take it all in. Especially my email, even if it seems really fascinating, it is often distracting me from what is essential and important for me to focus on. Learning how to resonate with what is the Truth in my heart has been an ongoing process of discovery.

I have been recently receiving the message that I need to prioritize. I have so many things that I love and am interested in, I find that I spend way too much time exploring or reading than keeping my focus on what I am working on. This means that I might even have to stop signing those important petitions that save the waters, the animals and the forests until I can complete my Inspiration message 🙂

So one of the ways that I have sorted out this process is by recognizing the resonance within my heart. If I feel at all obligated to do something that is not in alignment with the resonance of my heart, I just have to leave those things aside and come back to what is most necessary.

Not only do I feel like there is too much to do, I also notice that it is not leaving as much time for rest and the nourishing activities like hiking in the forest. It is a priority for me now to slow down, breathe more deeply, and do only that which resonates with my heart. I may do only 5 of the 7 (or 180) things on my To Do List, but I will do them more consciously and with more focus of attention. That way they carry much more Love and Presence into the world. I also feel like I accomplish more when I bring my full consciousness into the project, and it helps me to enjoy the process.

I am realizing that there will always be more to do. What is essential is that I feel happy and that I am truly enjoying my life. That is what makes life more fulfilling and my work a true Joy.

Divine Presence,

Thank you for assisting me in bringing more clarity and awareness into my heart and mind. I offer all my work to my divine Senior Partner that guides my work to help me prioritize all that I do each day. I ask to know by resonance in my heart, beyond a shadow of a doubt, what is important for me to focus on. Thank you for showing me what will most nourish and enhance all that I am so I can bring into the world only that which serves in the greatest way.

With every action that I take, may I and all beings, become more attuned to Source energy and in alignment with our Soul’s Purpose. For these and all my blessings, I say thank you, thank you, thank you. And so it is.

The Gabriel Messages #5

Resonate with what is true for you and leave the rest.

Dear One,

Every day you receive wisdom and guidance from the Angels. Sometimes this guidance comes from those around you — friends, family, teachers, strangers or signs in obvious places. Sometimes this wisdom comes as an inner urging. Whenever you receive guidance, if you tune within, you will feel a resonance when it is coming from a place of truth. Call this your “God check.” Create your own little sign that you can recognize when something is right for you. Then you have a way to really know what it is in your highest good at all times.

It is important to do this “God check” before your mental activity is engaged, because the mind creates confusion at times. It is the heart that is in tune with Infinite Intelligence. This is where you receive your truth. Many times what is in your highest good may not be the most rational of acts. You must be willing to do that which resonates deep within as the most appropriate action for you to take.

The God within you knows the answers. Before you can hear them, however, it may take a little prayer you make to yourself in moments of decision, especially when you are receiving conflicting advice from many well-meaning people around you. Take the time to center within, so you can know what is true for you.

Practice

One little ritual that may be helpful for you is to stop, take a deep breath, and say to yourself: “The God within me knows the truth in this situation.” Take several deep breaths and continue with your life process. You will feel a resonance within yourself that is your true knowing. The more you act on this resonance, the stronger it will become. Be willing more and more to do that which your heart tells you is right for you, rather than following your rational thoughts or the suggestions of those around you.

No one knows more than you do what is truly in your highest good, when you are in that infinite connection to the Source of all life. Ask for this connection to be strong and clear.

It is very helpful to give thanks in advance for clear direction from God. This creates a frequency of energy within and around you that allows the Angels to bring you assistance. An attitude of gratitude goes a long way to bring about that which you most want in your life. Be clear about the qualities you want, such as joy, wisdom, love, prosperity, and peace. All of these qualities represent the energy of the universe that is always available to you. You must ask for them directly in order to receive them. You also need to keep bringing your focus of attention back to what you want, rather than focusing on what you don’t want in your life.

So the steps we are suggesting in order to bring about a higher level of order in your life are:

Stop, breathe, ask, give thanks, and then be willing to receive on a level you have never believed possible. Allow the universal energy of the Archangels to work in your life.

When you come from this high level of intention, you will begin to sense within you the resonance of your highest truth. And from this place comes Divine Right Action.

Remember your message from Archangel Gabriel today:

Resonate with what is true for you and leave the rest.

March Equinox 2017: The New Beginning and the “Empty Space”

March Equinox 2017: The New Beginning and the “Empty Space”

So, Beloved Ones, you are now approaching the first equinox of the year 2017. In the North this will be the powerful Spring Equinox, and in the South, the Autumn Equinox.  The Wave of Diamond Light that is released at the time of the Equinoxes is gathering momentum, preparing to bring even more illumination and radiance to the Earth.

But, at the same time, there is a feeling of emptiness, of nothing moving forward that translates into frustration, anger and helplessness for many of you.

There is a course, a reason for this.  As you move into this new cycle of Time and Change, there are moments of high activity and shift, and there are times when you are given a space to “breathe” and to contemplate  where you have come from and where you wish to go to with your Reality Creation.

So it is that right now you are in a “holding pattern”, where you have the opportunity to align more closely with that which you desire to create as you prepare for the Tsunami of Radiant Diamond Light that will wash over the Planet in July and August of this year and will culminate in the Eclipse at the end of August.

The Empty Space and its Purpose in your Transformation

This “Empty Space” is represented in the Light Language of Planetary Movement as Venus and Jupiter retrograde.

Venus is the Light Energy of Love, Beauty, Money and Relationship, and it is these issues that you are being given the time to consider and reconsider before you move forward.  Venus is retrograding from Aries, the first house, back into Pisces the twelfth house, describing the backward arc as the New Beginning is put on “hold” to allow you to catch up with yourself and ensure that you are fully aligned with your dreams and desires and your New Reality Creations.  Venus will only move forward again in mid April, and will only cross into Aries at the end of April, so while the planet of Love and Abundance is dancing across the threshold of the New, you will be given the opportunity to ensure that you are truly focused with intent on creations that align with your Heart and Soul.

The energy of Jupiter, that of expansion, is in retrograde in Libra until early June.  Libra also represents Marriage as well as Creative enterprises, so it seems likely that relationships and creative undertakings will not be able to expand in any meaningful way until mid year, when you will be ready to surge forward with the wave of light that will enter mid year with the Lion’s Gate.

So, Beloved Ones, with these Planetary Bodies putting the brakes on significant forward movement, it may seem to you that you are in an “empty space”, where nothing is moving forward and you feel a little frustrated and uncertain.

This is as it should be, and all is in Divine Order.  This is your time to truly ensure that you are creating in alignment with your new Multi-Dimensional Energy Signature, and not in the old energy template.

It is a perfect time to rest a little, to meditate, to create and to gently find your way forward into new projects and challenges.

Beloved Ones, please resist the temptation to fill this Empty Space with chaos and noise and drama.  So many people, when confronted with a hiatus and a pause for reflection, become anxious and restless and need to fill that emptiness with some drama, and drama always brings up old patterns and old victim stories that will give you another mile or two of emotional charge to pass the time.

Now is the time to release that need, whether it be for relationship dramas,  money issues or political and community chaos.  Step into your Mastery by being able to recognized the chaos and the noise, and choose to be in a quiet and contemplative space where you can hear the urgings of your Soul and Spirit that come from the Higher Dimensions of Consciousness and express the Higher Qualities of Peace, Love, Harmony and Creativity.

Please be aware that when significant forward movement resumes at mid -year, you will be in a far better position to engage with the powerful creative energies and co-create the dreams and desires of your Heart and Soul.

There is no need to feel trapped in anxiety and frustration.  Simply trust that all in moving forward as it should.

Soul Groups, Soul Families and Star Tribes

This time of “empty space” and inner quiet time is also a very active time on the Higher Dimensions of Light.  It is here that there is a significant energy of movement at work.  Your Soul Groups, Soul Families and Star Tribes are establishing new connections and new communities to better serve your interests when the energies begin to move forward again.

Soul Groups are composed of gatherings of “resonant” souls whose Energy Signatures are compatible and who are being attracted and drawn together right now.  Their attraction is based on their intentions and their soul missions in the New Reality.  When you begin a new project or a new Time Cycle, even at the intentional stage, you create an energy that will attract others who are initiating the same or similar energies.  The attraction is the Higher Dimensional way of bringing together groups of Souls who can support and assist each other in the manifestation of their dreams and soul passions in the New Reality.  So, you will begin to see, as you shift into a new expression of your soul work, that you will begin to attract new people with different projects and enterprises, depending on where you are being guided by your Soul and Spirit.

Soul Families are larger groupings of Souls who share a common intention in the New Reality.  Most of you belong to the Family of Earth Keepers and Earth Protectors.  You are Light Family, Light Workers and Light Warriors who are here to be the New Reality and work with the Earth in her process of Transformation and Ascension.

As a “Family” of  Evolved Souls, it is your work to walk the talk and live the New Reality in the choices that you make in your daily lives.  In this Fifth Dimensional Reality it is no longer possible to live a selfish and isolated life.  You are all part of the same Earth, and although you may access different levels of consciousness or “dimensions”, you will still need to live in a grounded way.

As a Soul Family it is your work to “model” the New Reality, with its emphasis on Service to Others, on Unity and on Creativity, Harmony, Love and Compassion.

The way to achieve this, Beloved Family of Light, is to use this “empty space” as a time to focus on your Inner Reality and on achieving Inner Peace and Harmony and Acceptance there.  It is also a time to access your Creativity and to hone your skills as Earth Keepers and Creative Beings who can manifest through personal creation.

Your Star Tribes are those Angels and Beings of Light who are your Soul Families on the Higher Dimensions of Consciousness.  Right Now, there is also a great Higher Dimensional gathering of your Star Tribes as they prepare to support those of you who are incarnated here on Earth in your Soul Missions as you Create the New Earth.

Beloved Family, be aware that you are not alone in this Transition and in these powerful changes.  You are always being loved and supported by the Star Tribes and the Angelic Beings of Light.  Your time on Earth is a powerful Adventure of Light for your entire Star Family and Tribe, and they are always present to support you from the Higher Dimensions.

Living Simply : The Key to Creative Flow

In this time of “Empty Space” it is also a good project to begin to learn how to live in a Simple Way.

This does not mean living without abundance, or living in poverty and lack.  On the contrary, it means living in and with abundance, but making choices that demonstrate discernment and creative skill.

In your old energy culture, you learnt to equate abundance with the production and consumption of many things of “value”.  And for a while this was achieved.  But in this New Reality, you have become aware of the consequences of such a lifestyle, in terms of harming the Earth itself and creating large classes of people who have no access to the basics of life.  So, as an advanced consciousness, it is your work to demonstrate that you understand these issues and that you can live in a simpler, but more beautiful and harmonious way.

Beloved Ones, maybe in this quiet time you could be rethinking your life and resolving to establish more Creative Flow by simplifying your life and environment.  What physical things could you release that could be used by others and that is no longer necessary for you to feel comfortable?

What changes could you make in your home environment that would make you feel more of a sense of harmony and flow?

How can you express your Creativity in your Home Environment, even if it is only one room?

Beloved Ones, be aware that when you have much “stuff” that lies around gathering dust and is not used, you are creating physical blocks to the flow of energy.  It becomes more difficult to think and live creatively because movement is blocked by the “old”.  In nature, the cycles of the seasons teach you about initiation (spring) into abundance (summer) and then releasing and letting go (fall and winter).  So, in life, there is also a time for releasing and letting go in order to initiate a new cycle.

At this time of Equinox, it is a wonderful time to undergo a personal process of releasing and letting go, in order to create a powerful Creative Flow that will enable you to flow with the incoming energies at mid year.

Strive to live in a simple, yet rich and abundant way.  Strive to be creative, peaceful harmonious and loving in all that you do as you move forward towards the powerful mid year Light Wave.

Let this Equinox Wave be the energy you need to Release, Cleanse, Clear and focus the Creative Flow into creating your personal and wonderful New Reality.

The 2017 March Equinox

The 2017 March Equinox

Feel beneath the words. Each word is an energy; and there is lots beneath the words shared here. Read between the lines. Feel with your Heart.

We are here at last…the powerful Equinox. If you haven’t awakened yet, you will; and if you have, you will awaken more. You awaken to anything that isn’t flowing and you get to change it! It takes prioritizing what is most joyful and important for you. If anything of the past bubbles up that is painful, perhaps it is time to let it go and choose a different way that is more aligned with who you are now. The Equinox is a time of celebration. It occurs March 21st at 3:28 a.m. on the west coast of America. It is a big leap forward to anchor the New. The New is created and now we take a big step in manifesting it in our own lives and in the world. There will be big movements as we go forward; in Earth and in us. It all depends on where your focus is. If it is maintaining the old, then that is what is manifest for you. If you, along with so many of us, choose to manifest Peace, Joy, Love and Abundance, etc. then that is what is manifest in your life. Create first; manifest second. As you meditate or rest and open up your Crown Chakra with the intention to receive, you will. Then you put it all into action. Remember that you are in the world, but not of it. You are an Earth Angel. As above, so below; as within, so without.

It does appear as though there is separation in the world; that of 3D and that of higher dimensions. How you choose to live affects all of life..it enhances or degrades. It is your choice as to how you want to manifest. If you choose the higher dimensions (not just the 5th Dimension), then act accordingly. Visualization manifests; thoughts manifest; any way you choose to express Love, then do it. Remember that Love is much more powerful than fear (fear is actually an illusion, while Love is Truth); it dissolves fear. All that is not Love can then return to the Light for Transformation. Let go of separate-ego thoughts of why, when, where, how and who. These only delay you and send you in a downward spiral of ongoing, circular thinking. Instead, take a step toward being more Love. Keep your Heart-feelings high and have your thoughts match your feelings. Heart: feelings; ego: thoughts. By bringing them together in a high vibration, you bring separate-ego to be Soul’s expression…its rightful place.

The Equinox is a powerful jump up and through. It brings more Balance. What is Balance; what does it mean to you? Balance is when all our bodies (mental, emotional, spiritual, physical, etheric, astral and aether) all work as one unit. It is having all our chakras clear and connected as One. It is being in the Flow without interruption. It is being grounded to higher realms and to Gaia, serving as a conduit between Heaven and Earth. When we are balanced, we move up in vibration and we anchor the New. Anything that interrupts the Flow is of the old. We can begin a new chapter. To be in Balance, slow down, be simple and be aware of every thought and feeling. Be in Nature. Realize that everything is a part of you, even those things you might judge as not being a part of you. Everything shines a light onto what you’ve integrated or where you have stopped the Flow. Always look to see what pushes your buttons, for it is here that you can still see what wants release and transformation. Do those things that are only what you are inspired to do; these are things not based in old responsibilities, but on what is joyous and passionate. When you do, you step more into Balance.

When you celebrate the Equinox, you may be guided to leave your crystals out overnight to absorb the beautiful energies; if you live in the U.S. You may also place them in the sun, as our sun is a conduit for the higher energies of Source. Realize too that your intentions are echoed in all the sacred sites, temples and grid of Earth.

The Equinox has the potential to transform any area of your life that is lagging behind. It has the potential to light up the New Earth Grid in a spectacular way. It has the potential to unite all as One Heart; Unity Consciousness. It is a passage, if you aspire to be more. It activates new DNA, a new voice for our cells and new expression for each of us. How do you choose to express yourself? You may embody your highest self in order to shine ever brighter. As we shine our expanded Light, it touches all Hearts on Earth, whether human, flora or fauna. We live by example; we are the wayshowers; we are the avatars. Together we are One Heart.

We are Peace. How do you express Peace? If you are against anyone or anything, you are not Peace. Peace is being Love. It is expressed through your Heart. The Equinox is feminine in nature. It is a full integration of the Divine Feminine. It is soft, yet powerful. It does not push or control. It welcomes with open arms. The Divine Feminine is within every life form.

The energies of the Equinox are peaking now, as they have been in the past weeks. Each passing day, the energy has amped up, and after the Equinox, the Beauty of this passage continues. This can lead to old energies bubbling up. Some of these might include indecision, physical adjustments and other things of the old. They come to our conscious mind to let go of them. We are challenged to stay out of busy-ness and circular thinking. Not clearing old energies is an attempt to be held back in the 3rd and 4th Dimensions, which are rife with separation and duality. This could result in not knowing what to do, being torn between trusting and not trusting, stress and confusion. You may see very clearly what works and what doesn’t. While this pushes us to let go of our old comfort zones, it may be difficult to surrender to what we are not sure of and yet, this is what is asked of us…to surrender to the New, even if we don’t know what that means. What does it mean to leave duality and surrender to the New? It means that there isn’t that push-pull many have been experiencing. We may experience a resurgence of duality in our lives. Yet, often it is darker before the dawn. Many may experience a return of old physical manifestations such as fuzzy eyes, a return of dietary shifts (eating things not so good for us and then shifting to what is nutritionally sound); ask your body what it needs in each moment and follow its guidance; and other manifestations of adjustment.

As we shift higher, lots of the old may very well bubble up. This all leads to a new anchoring of the New, once you let go and allow Love to flow freely into you. Follow your energy and trust. Just flow; no pushing and be simple. Love and care for you. If your buttons are pushed, please do not react, for then you attach to the old energies. If you do not react, you are free from perceiving yourself as a victim of others’ projections and patterns. When you do not react, you can see what is yours and what is not. Being a victim means you are hooked by blame, shame, guilt  and attachment to being right, along with fear.

Trust that all you experience is for your highest evolution. Everything you experience you have chosen; whether Soul-chosen or by conscious choice. Be gentle with yourself…dance, play, draw, sing or whatever is fun and light for you to do. Whether you are alone or with others, it doesn’t matter, for we are One.

OSTARA LORE

A traditional Vernal Equinox pastime: go to a field and randomly collect wildflowers [Thank the flowers for their sacrifice before picking them, using a collection formula such as can be found in “An Herbal Grimoire”]. Or buy some from a florist, taking one or two of those that appeal to you. Then bring them home and divine their magickal meanings by the use of books, your own intuition, a pendulum or by other means. The flowers you’ve chosen reveal your inner thoughts and emotions.

It is important at this time of renewed life to plan a walk (or a ride) through gardens, a park, woodlands, forest and other green places. This is not simply exercise, and you should be on no other mission. It isn’t even just an appreciation of nature. Make your walk celebratory, a ritual for nature itself.

Other traditional activities include planting seeds, working on magickal gardens and practicing all forms of herb work – magickal, medicinal, cosmetic, culinary and artistic.

Foods in tune with this day (linking your meals with the seasons is a fine way of attuning with nature) include those made of seeds, such as sunflower, pumpkin and sesame seeds, as well as pine nuts.

Sprouts are equally appropriate, as are leafy, green vegetables. Flower dishes such as stuffed nasturtiums or carnation cupcakes also find their place here. [Find a book of flower cooking or simply make spice cupcakes. Ice with pink frosting and place a fresh carnation petal on each cupcake. Stuff nasturtium blossoms with a mixture made with cream cheese, chopped nuts, chives and watercress.]

“Ostara”

by Mickie MuellerThe Goddess Ostara, or Eostre, is the Anglo-Saxon Goddess of Spring, the East, Resurrection, and Rebirth, is also the Maiden aspect of the Three-fold Goddess. She gave Her name to the Christian festival of Easter (which is an older Pagan festival appropriated by the Church), whose timing is still dictated by the Moon. Modern Pagans celebrate Her festival on the Vernal Equinox, usually around March 21, the first day of Spring.

Ostara was an important Goddess of spring to the ancient Saxons, but we know little else of Her other than this. Some have suggested that Ostara is merely an alternate name for Frigg or Freya, but neither of these Goddesses seem to have quite the same fertility function as Ostara does. Frigg, Goddess of the home, wouldn’t seem to be associated with such an earthy festival and Freya’s form of fertility is more based on eroticism than reproduction.

However, Ostara is associated, almost interchangebly, with many different Goddesses. [Again, purely speculation] She is essentially identical to Freya, for She is the Goddess of the fertile spring, the resurrection of life after winter. She was equated with the Goddess Idunna, who bore the Apples of Eternal Youth to the Aesir, and many believe that Ostara and Idunna are the same, or represent the same principle. She is almost certainly the same as the Greek Goddess Eos, Goddess of the Dawn. (Again, following the threefold theme — Eos is the Maiden aspect of the three goddesses Eos /Dawn, Hemera /Day and Nyx/Night.) As Ostara is Goddess of the Dawn, we can understand why sunrise services have always been an important aspect of the spring resurrection/rebirth observances of other cultures.

Eggs and rabbits are sacred to Her as is the full moon [though there is no historical record of this], since the ancients saw in its markings the image of a rabbit or the hare. Pagan Anglo-Saxons made offerings of colored eggs to Her at the Vernal Equinox. They placed them at graves especially, probably as a charm of rebirth. (Egyptians and Greeks were also known to place eggs at gravesites). The Goddess of Fertility was also the Goddess of Grain, so offerings of bread and cakes were also made to Her. Rabbits are sacred to Ostara, especially white rabbits, and She was said to be able to take the form of a rabbit.

One myth says Ostara found a bird dying from the cold. She changed it to a rabbit so it could keep warm. Maybe this is why the Easter Bunny brings eggs to children on Easter. Traditionally German children are told that it is the Easter hare that lays all the Easter eggs.

Festival of Isis (Egypt)
ISIS
Themes: Magic; Harvest; Dreams; Divination: Perspective; Faithfulness; Love; Spirituality; Destiny
Symbols: Bloodstone; Amethyst; Silver; Myrrh; Cedar; Hawk; Moon
About Isis: One of the most complete goddess figures in history, Isis breathes on us with spring winds to revitalize and fulfill our spirits in every way. Egyptians venerated Isis as the Queen of Sorcery, Life of the Nile, Mother Moon, and Protectress. Isis taught humankind the basic skills necessary to build civilizations, and she came to represent the powerful attributes of faithfulness, love, inner beauty, oracular insight, and spiritual awareness (to name just a few). She could also change her followers’ destinies.
To Do Today: Today was the spring harvest festival in Egypt, honoring the giver of all life, Isis. Put a bloodstone or amethyst in your pocket today to inspire any or all of Isis’s characteristics in your soul and life. If you have any silver or white clothing, wearing them will also foster Isis-centered energy, because these colors are associated with the moon.
One traditional activity today is fortune-telling, an art under Isis’s dominion. To encourage visionary dreams from her, put some rose petals under your pillow before going to bed, and burn some myrrh or jasmine incense. Keep a dream diary handy, and write your impressions immediately upon waking so you won’t lose the insight.

Spring Equinox
By Ivy

We celebrate the Spring Equinox
We gather our coven with care
We’ll cast the sacred circle with rocks-
though the earth is no longer bare.
We dance on green grass-
We praise the sky blue…
We thank the God/dess for what each has,
and dance in the morning dew.

We see the Mother’s soft tints
laid lightly on the earth,
though these are but little hints
of the wonders of rebirth.

We finish our Spring-time rites
and close the circle down,
knowing we have reached new heights
our love and joy abound.

I’ll honor the God/dess in my heart,
and always remember when-
merry we’d meet, merry we’d part,
and merry we’d meet again!

History of Ostara – The Spring Equinox

Ostara Comments

History of Ostara – The Spring Equinox

Many Holidays, Many Names:

The word Ostara is just one of the names applied to the celebration of the spring equinox on March 21. The Venerable Bede said the origin of the word is actually from Eostre, a Germanic goddess of spring. Of course, it’s also the same time as the Christian Easter celebration, and in the Jewish faith, Passover takes place as well. For early Pagans in the Germanic countries, this was a time to celebrate planting and the new crop season. Typically, the Celtic peoples did not celebrate Ostara as a holiday, although they were in tune with the changing of the seasons.

A New Day Begins:

A dynasty of Persian kings known as the Achaemenians celebrated the spring equinox with the festival of No Ruz — which means “new day.” It is a celebration of hope and renewal still observed today in many Persian countries, and has its roots in Zoroastrianism. In Iran, a festival called Chahar-Shanbeh Suri takes place right before No Ruz begins, and people purify their homes and leap over fires to welcome the 13-day celebration of No Ruz.

Mad as a March Hare:

Spring equinox is a time for fertility and sowing seeds, and so nature’s fertility goes a little crazy. In medieval societies in Europe, the March hare was viewed as a major fertility symbol — this is a species of rabbit that is nocturnal most of the year, but in March when mating season begins, there are bunnies everywhere all day long. The female of the species is superfecund and can conceive a second litter while still pregnant with a first. As if that wasn’t enough, the males tend to get frustrated when rebuffed by their mates, and bounce around erratically when discouraged.

The Legends of Mithras:

The story of the Roman god, Mithras, is similar to the tale of Jesus Christ and his resurrection. Born at the winter solstice and resurrected in the spring, Mithras helped his followers ascend to the realm of light after death. In one legend, Mithras, who was popular amongst members of the Roman military, was ordered by the Sun to sacrifice a white bull. He reluctantly obeyed, but at the moment when his knife entered the creature’s body, a miracle took place. The bull turned into the moon, and Mithras’ cloak became the night sky. Where the bull’s blood fell flowers grew, and stalks of grain sprouted from its tail.

Spring Celebrations Around the World:

In ancient Rome, the followers of Cybele believed that their goddess had a consort who was born via a virgin birth. His name was Attis, and he died and was resurrected each year during the time of the vernal equinox on the Julian Calendar (between March 22 and March 25). Around the same time, the Germanic tribes honored a lunar goddess known as Ostara, who mated with a fertility god around this time of year, and then gave birth nine months later – at Yule.

The indigenous Mayan people in Central American have celebrated a spring equinox festival for ten centuries. As the sun sets on the day of the equinox on the great ceremonial pyramid, El Castillo, Mexico, its “western face…is bathed in the late afternoon sunlight. The lengthening shadows appear to run from the top of the pyramid’s northern staircase to the bottom, giving the illusion of a diamond-backed snake in descent.” This has been called “The Return of the Sun Serpent” since ancient times.

According to the Venerable Bede, Eostre was the Saxon version of the Germanic goddess Ostara. Her feast day was held on the full moon following the vernal equinox — almost the identical calculation as for the Christian Easter in the west. There is very little documented evidence to prove this, but one popular legend is that Eostre found a bird, wounded, on the ground late in winter. To save its life, she transformed it into a hare. But “the transformation was not a complete one. The bird took the appearance of a hare but retained the ability to lay eggs…the hare would decorate these eggs and leave them as gifts to Eostre.”

Modern Celebrations

This is a good time of year to start your seedlings. If you grow an herb garden, start getting the soil ready for late spring plantings. Celebrate the balance of light and dark as the sun begins to tip the scales, and the return of new growth is near.

Many modern Pagans celebrate Ostara as a time of renewal and rebirth. Take some time to celebrate the new life that surrounds you in nature — walk in park, lay in the grass, hike through a forest. As you do so, observe all the new things beginning around you — plants, flowers, insects, birds. Meditate upon the ever-moving Wheel of the Year, and celebrate the change of seasons.

Ostara Magic

Spring is a time of rebirth and renewal as the earth comes back to life. Why not celebrate the themes of the season with a little bit of spring magic?

1. Spring Garden Magic
In the early spring, many of us who follow earth-based spiritual paths begin planning our gardens for the coming season. The very act of planting, of beginning new life from seed, is a ritual and a magical act in itself. To cultivate something in the black soil, see it sprout and then bloom, is to watch a magical working unfold before our very eyes. The plant cycle is intrinsically tied to so many earth-based belief systems that it should come as no surprise that the magic of the garden is one well worth looking into.

2. Serpent Magic and Folklore
Snakes have a long and colorful history in folklore and mythology, as well as in magical practice. Let’s look at some of the amazing customs surrounding snakes in magic and legend!

3. Egg Magic & Mythology
In many cultures and society, the egg is considered the perfect magical symbol. It is, after all, representative of new life – in fact, it is the life cycle personified. While many of us take note of eggs around springtime – the Ostara season is chock full of them – it’s important to consider that eggs feature prominently in folklore and legend all year long.

4. Rabbit Magic & Mad March Hares
Spring equinox, or Ostara, is a time for fertility and sowing seeds, and so nature’s fertility goes a little crazy. The rabbit — for good reason — is often associated with fertility magic and sexual energy.

5. Magical Spring Flowers
As spring arrives, our gardens begin to bud and eventually bloom. For hundreds of years, the plants that we grow have been used in magic. Flowers in particular are often connected with a variety of magical uses. Now that spring is here, keep an eye out for some of these flowers around you, and consider the different magical applications they might have.

6. Children’s Ostara Chant
If you have children, you may want to include them in your Ostara celebrations this spring. Teach them this simple rhyming chant, and clap along as you welcome the season of rebirth!

7. Garden Blessing for Ostara Planting Rituals
Getting ready to till the soil and prepare it for spring planting? Say this garden blessing before you begin.

8. Ostara Prayer for the Resurrection of the Earth
While many other religions celebrate the rebirth of Jesus, for those of us in earth-based faiths, the focus is often on the land and the soil. Celebrate Ostara with a simple prayer for the new life that begins as the earth itself is resurrected.

9. Prayer to Honor the Goddesses of Spring
Many Pagan traditions have goddesses that are associated with the new beginnings of the Ostara season. Whether you celebrate Flora or Eostre, use this simple prayer to honor the goddesses of spring.
