A Few Facts for Your Monday Regarding Broken Mirrors

A Few Facts for Your Monday Regarding Broken Mirrors

So why does the superstition about broken mirrors leading to seven years bad luck exist?

It might be because people once thought their reflection was their actual soul, reflected up to them from those dark pools of water thousands of years ago. You don’t want to crack your soul into a million pieces, do you?

Mirrors were also once thought to be tools of the gods. Breaking one would break that link between the owner and the gods, thus losing a huge source of power and the ability to foresee the future.
Or, the soul might stray from the body if a mirror is broken. Souls are clumsy, okay? They’ll probably get hurt without a body with them.

The original superstition of broken mirrors leading to seven years bad luck comes from the Romans. They thought that it took seven years for life to renew itself. If you looked into a mirror while unhealthy, you would break the mirror and thus have bad luck and ill health for seven years until your life renewed.

So you broke a mirror. Whoops! Do you want to avoid that bad luck? Just take all of the pieces of the mirror, try not to miss a single piece, and bury it under a full moon. Another choice is to pound the shards into a fine dust that simply cannot reflect anything again. Still, you don’t hear of people dying because of their bad luck, so it can’t be all that bad right? You can simply counter the bad luck of a broken mirror by carrying a four-leaf clover, or doing a number of good luck spells.

Magickal Activity for April 18th, Rama’s Day – Mirror Magick

My DarksideMagickal Activity for April 18th, Rama’s Day

Mirror Magick

One of the symbols of Rama is the mirror, the symbol of truth, self-knowledge, and wisdom. As a moon deity, Rama reflects the glory of Vishnu, much in the same way the moon reflects the splendor of the sun. Magickally, the mirror reflects the true identity of the human soul and can be used to divine the future.

The most versatile mirror for magickal work is full length, has three panels, and provides a view of three sides of an image at once. When this triple reflective quality is combined with candlelight, it creates a very mystical effect.

Stand the mirror in the corner of a darkened room and place a lighted candle before each panel. Position a chair facing the center panel. Sit in the chair, take several deep breaths, and relax. Stare fixedly at the reflected image of the center candle flame, pose your question, and look deep into the mirror. The mirror will begin to cloud or fog with a swirling veil of ethereal mist. Through the mist, an image will appear and answer your query. When the image begins to fade, so will the mist. Once the mirror is clear, extinguish the candles, cover the mirror with a dark blue or black velvet drape, and record the experience in your magickal journal or Book of Shadows.

Rama’s Day

Rama is the seventh Avatar of Vishnu, the Vedic sun God who is reborn each morning and sustains the order of the cosmos. As does Apollo, the Greek sun God, Vishnu rises from the sea where he sleeps during Brahma’s night. As an Avatar, Rama descends to earth and assumes a visible form. Rama or Rama-Chandra is a “Moon Rama” or “Gentle Rama” in contrast to some of the more war-oriented Rama. In India, it is believed that the Avatars walk about the Earth and work for the good of humanity by defeating forces of evil and helping the good.

WHEN THE MOON IS IN VIRGO

WHEN THE MOON IS IN VIRGO

Water Planet / Earth Sign

The Moon is the astrological metaphor which symbolizes an individual’s inner, feeling-based personality, his emotions, habits and instinctive reactions. The Moon travels through the entire Zodiac every month, changing signs roughly every two and a half days.

The Zodiac sign the Moon occupies at a given moment as it moves through the sky will reflect the “emotional tone” for the day. The aspects it forms … the angles it makes with other planets … show periods of cooperation and conflict between various needs and personal agendas.

Like members of a human family, the different planets in a horoscope have their times of support and agreement … and their times of conflict and trouble. These will be reflected in the moods and general climate of concerns in real life.

Virgo is an Earth Sign. Earth Signs supply, invest, build, and create the practical substance and support systems that nourish the inspirations and new beginnings launched by Fire Sign energy. A terrific ambition or worthy goal is a wonderful gift, but without the investment of money, materials, durable support and labor it … it’s going nowhere.

When there is Earth Sign energy in the sky or in a Natal Chart, these qualities and attitudes will be on open display. The Earth Signs are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn.

Virgo is also a Mutable Sign. Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces are the Mutable Signs. Mutable signs adjust, adapt, compromise and negotiate. They prefer to work around obstacles and find ways to get along with whatever troubles them. They are ingenious, adaptable, flexible and infinitely creative … inventing new ways to work with the world from old patterns and ideas they reshape to suit their needs.

The Goddess Maia

Dragons Keep
The Goddess Maia

In ancient Roman religion and myth, Maia embodied the concept of growth, as her name was thought to be related to the comparative adjective maius, maior, “larger, greater.” Originally, she may have been a homonym independent of the Greek Maia, whose myths she absorbed through the Hellenization of Latin literature and culture.

In an archaic Roman prayer, Maia appears as an attribute of Vulcan, in an invocational list of male deities paired with female abstractions representing some aspect of their functionality. She was explicitly identified with Earth (Terra, the Roman counterpart of Gaia) and the Good Goddess (Bona Dea) in at least one tradition. Her identity became theologically intertwined also with the goddesses Fauna, Magna Mater (“Great Goddess”, referring to the Roman form of Cybele but also a cult title for Maia), Ops, Juno, and Carna, as discussed at some length by the late antiquarian writer Macrobius. This treatment was probably influenced by the 1st-century BC scholar Varro, who tended to resolve a great number of goddesses into one original “Terra.” The association with Juno, whose Etruscan counterpart was Uni, is suggested again by the inscription Uni Mae on the Piacenza Liver.

The month of May (Latin Maius) was supposedly named for Maia, though ancient etymologists also connected it to the maiores, “ancestors,” again from the adjective maius, maior, meaning those who are “greater” in terms of generational precedence. On the first day of May, the Lares Praestites were honored as protectors of the city, and the flamen of Vulcan sacrificed a pregnant sow to Maia, a customary offering to an earth goddess that reiterates the link between Vulcan and Maia in the archaic prayer formula. In Roman myth, Mercury (Hermes), the son of Maia, was the father of the twin Lares, a genealogy that sheds light on the collocation of ceremonies on the May Kalends. On May 15, the Ides, Mercury was honored as a patron of merchants and increaser of profit (through an etymological connection with merx, merces, “goods, merchandise”), another possible connection with Maia his mother as a goddess who promoted growth.

Monday Is A Day of Witchery, Magick and Enchantment

I Love You My Dragon by Preciousbaby63

Monday Is A Day of Witchery, Magick and Enchantment

Think for a moment on all of the witchery, magick and enchantments that you have discovered. Don’t be afraid to adjust spells to suit your own specific needs. Any gentle, illusory, and dreamy charms and spells can be enhanced when you work on the day of the week that is dedicated to the moon. Mondays are a fantastic day to boost your psychic abilities and to tune in to your intuition and empathy. It also gives you the opportunity to work with a different lunar phase each and every Monday, which means in one month you could work four different types of moon magicks on Mondays. How’s that for adding to your repertoire? You are going to have mad skills in no time at all.

So light up those lunar scented candles and add a little mystique to your outfit by wearing an enchanting lunar color. Wear your sparkling silver jewelry and maybe add a pair of dangling silver earrings or a pendant shaped like a crescent moon. Create lunar potions and philters; make a dream catcher and give it as a gift to someone you love. Burn some sandalwood or jasmine-scented incense today to inspire the glamour and magick of the moon. Slice up a favorite variety of fruit that is in season for a snack or share it with your love and enjoy his or her lunar and romantic qualities. Brew up a cup of chamomile tea, enchant it with a little moon magick, and relax and get a good night’s sleep.

Most importantly, get outside tonight and watch the moon for a while. What phase is she in? What color was the moon as she rose? Why not start a journal and write down at what location the moon rises and sets for a few seasons? This is a great way to teach you to tune in and to become more aware of the moon and the influence that she pulls into our lives. Try calling on Selene for her magickal assistance, and call Thoth for wisdom and strength. Get to know the Norse Mani and the Latvian Meness. These gods of the moon have plenty to teach, and if you allow their influence to cycle through your life, you’ll receive many blessings. Be imaginative, and create your own personal lunar magick and witchery. Go on….the moonlight becomes you.

Monday

Monday

In the word Monday, we can see part of the word Moon. In the romance languages such as Italian or Spanish, this day of the week is called Lunes and clearly relates to the word lunar. On Mondays, a variety of magick may be worked. Because Monday centers on the energies of the Moon, things like dreams, feminine energy, health, success in spiritual pursuits, domestic matters, and things of family origin are especially important this day.

Mondays are best for love magick and anything concerning home or family, thus old saying, Mondays child is fair of face, which seems clearly to relate to the themes of love and health.

Angels of Monday are Gabriel, Arcan, Missabu, and Abuzaha. Arcan is known as the king of the angels of air and the “ruler” of Monday. Abuzaha (Abuzohar) serves Monday, and is very responsive to invocations and ritual magick. Missabu is a ministering angel of Arcan.

Check whether the moon is waning or waxing to determine what your spell will be. During waning moons, do spells to rid yourself of obstacles or for wisdom and protection. During waxing moons do magic for increase of any kind or to draw something into your life.

On Mondays, the best hour to work is moonrise. Get this information from your local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac.
