Chained witch...a woman's work is never doneJanuary 9th

Festival of Jana and Janus

On this day the ancient Romans honored Jana, whose name means “luminous sky,” and her husband Janus, the guardian of all passageways. At their festival, a ram was sacrificed to Janus for his continued protection, and Jana was invoked to shine her light on the new year. To the Romans, who believed that the spirit of Janus hovered over all doorways, gates, and passageways, this was a time of great consequence.

The Witches Spell-A-Day for Monday, January 9th – Winds of Renewal

wiccan in the woodsThe Witches Spell-A-Day for Monday, January 9th – Winds of Renewal

Start your day with a refreshing blast of winter air. Focus on renewal, even though it may apear bleak outside. The air element brings change and opportunity. Visualize any specific opportunity or change you’re hoping for, or just remain open to whatever comes your way. Try to actually fee the air on your face several times today. Whisper these words to the wind:
Winter wind, what secretsyou must
keep, blowing in the night, howling
while we sleep.
Winter wind, what promises you
make, stirring morning snow as you
whisper us awake.
Though you may be harsh and cold,
on your breath rewards untold.
Repeat throughout the day, if desired, or again at night before bedtime.

Let’s Talk Witch – Linking up with animals

THE WICCAN WAYLet’s Talk Witch – Linking up with animals

In the most ancient days,
When animals and humans too
were on the earth,
A man could become an animal
if he wanted
And an animal could become a man.
Sometimes they were humans
And sometimes animals
And there was no difference
They all spoke the same language.
(from a Native American poem)

Wicca is closely linked to the animal world – our relatives that live on Mother Earth – on her land, in her waters, in her air, and deep within her earth. Wicca helps us link up to our animal of strength, and we have to learn from them what they transmit to us.

We can learn a great deal from animals, whether by observing them – the physical animal – or by using them as a “pipeline” to transmit messages. The totem animal, which we will try to get to know in the next exercise, helps us with our spiritual development. Animals that we encounter by chance may also be a sign or teach us something. More than once, I have asked the universe a question and an animal that is rarely found in the region where I live enters my house. By channeling with an animal, or by recognizing the message or insight represented by the animal, I received an answer to my question. People who are very in touch with nature and Mother Earth are inclined to receive many messages in this manner, as are people who work to preserve the environment. It would seem that nature “rewards” them with signs and symbols in the form of the animals that cross their paths. Incidentally, the animal does not have to appear physically in front of you: for instance, you might pass a store window or billboard upon which a picture of an animal appears; the insight that it represents will help you at that moment; or you turn on the TV and see the animal whose insight you are waiting for). Channeling with animals is easy and natural; you just have to open your mind to the idea that animals can channel with us in exactly the same way that we, human beings, channel with one another, and channel well telepathically.

Today Is A Day of Witchery, Magick and Enchantment

Witch WiccanToday Is A Day of Witchery, Magick and Enchantment

Think for a moment on all of the witchery, magick and enchantments that you have discovered. Don’t be afraid to adjust spells to suit your own specific needs. Any gentle, illusory, and dreamy charms and spells can be enhanced when you work on the day of the week that is dedicated to the moon. Mondays are a fantastic day to boost your psychic abilities and to tune in to your intuition and empathy. It also gives you the opportunity to work with a different lunar phase each and every Monday, which means in one month you could work four different types of moon magicks on Mondays. How’s that for adding to your repertoire? You are going to have mad skills in no time at all.

So light up those lunar scented candles and add a little mystique to your outfit by wearing an enchanting lunar color. Wear your sparkling silver jewelry and maybe add a pair of dangling silver earrings or a pendant shaped like a crescent moon. Create lunar potions and philters; make a dream catcher and give it as a gift to someone you love. Burn some sandalwood or jasmine-scented incense today to inspire the glamour and magick of the moon. Slice up a favorite variety of fruit that is in season for a snack or share it with your love and enjoy his or her lunar and romantic qualities. Brew up a cup of chamomile tea, enchant it with a little moon magick, and relax and get a good night’s sleep.

Most importantly, get outside tonight and watch the moon for a while. What phase is she in? What color was the moon as she rose? Why not start a journal and write down at what location the moon rises and sets for a few seasons? This is a great way to teach you to tune in and to become more aware of the moon and the influence that she pulls into our lives. Try calling on Selene for her magickal assistance, and call Thoth for wisdom and strength. Get to know the Norse Mani and the Latvian Meness. These gods of the moon have plenty to teach, and if you allow their influence to cycle through your life, you’ll receive many blessings. Be imaginative, and create your own personal lunar magick and witchery. Go on….the moonlight becomes you.

The Witches Guide to Monday

GOTHIC WITCHThe Witches Guide to Monday

In the word Monday, we can see part of the word Moon. In the romance languages such as Italian or Spanish, this day of the week is called Lunes and clearly relates to the word lunar. On Mondays, a variety of magick may be worked. Because Monday centers on the energies of the Moon, things like psychism, dreams, feminine energy, health, success in spiritual pursuits, domestic matters, and things of family origin are especially important this day.

Mondays are best for love magick and anything concerning home or family, thus old saying, Mondays child is fair of face, which seems clearly to relate to the themes of love and health.

Angels of Monday are Gabriel, Arcan, Missabu, and Abuzaha. Arcan is known as the king of the angels of air and the “ruler” of Monday. Abuzaha (Abuzohar) serves Monday, and is very responsive to invocations and ritual magick. Missabu is a ministering angel of Arcan.

Check whether the moon is waning or waxing to determine what your spell will be. During waning moons, do spells to rid yourself of obstacles or for wisdom and protection. During waxing moons do magic for increase of any kind or to draw something into your life.

On Mondays, the best hour to work is moonrise. Get this information from your local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac.

About the Greek Goddess, Hestia, Goddess of the Hearth

I'll put a spell on you About the Greek Goddess, Hestia, Goddess of the Hearth

The Greek goddess Hestia watched over domesticity and the family, and was honored with the first offering at any sacrifice made in the home. On a public level, Hestia’s flame was never allowed to burn out. The local town hall served as a shrine for her — and any time a new settlement was formed, settlers would take a flame from their old village to the new one.

Hestia the Hearthkeeper

As the equivalent of the Roman Vesta, Hestia was known as the virginal daughter of Cronus and Rhea, and sister of Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. She tended the fires of Mount Olympus, and because of her devotion to her duty as hearthkeeper, she managed to stay out of a lot of the shenanigans of the other Greek gods. She doesn’t appear in too many of the Greek myths or adventure stories.

Hestia took her role as a virgin seriously as well, and in one legend, the lustful god Priapus tried to take advantage of her. As Priapus crept to her bed, planning on raping Hestia, a donkey brayed loudly, waking the goddess.

Her screams woke the other Olympians, much to Priapus’ great embarrassment. In some stories, it is said that Priapus believed Hestia to be a nymph, and that the other gods hid her by turning her into a lotus plant.

Ovid describes the scene in Fasti, saying, “Hestia lies down and takes a quiet, carefree nap, just as she was, her head pillowed by turf. But the red saviour of gardens, Priapos, prowls for Nymphai and goddesses, and wanders back and forth. He spots Vesta… He conceives a vile hope and tries to steal upon her, walking on tiptoe, as his heart flutters. By chance old Silenus had left the donkey he came on by a gently burbling stream. The long Hellespont’s god was getting started, when it bellowed an untimely bray. The goddess starts up, frightened by the noise. The whole crowd fly to her; the god flees through hostile hands.”

Hospitality and Sanctuary
As a hearth goddess, Hestia was also known for her hospitality. If a stranger came calling and seeking sanctuary, it was considered an offense against Hestia to turn the person away. Those who followed her were obligated to provide shelter and food to anyone truly in need. It was also emphasized that female guests given sanctuary were not to be violated — again, a grave offense against Hestia.

Because of her role over the hearth, she was allocated a special role in household ritual. Cicero, the first-century Roman rhetorician, wrote, “The name Vesta comes from the Greeks, for she is the goddess whom they call Hestia. Her power extends over altars and hearths, and therefore all prayers and all sacrifices end with this goddess, because she is the guardian of the innermost things. Closely related to this function are the Penates or household gods.”

Plato points out that Hestia is theologically significant because she is the one who is invoked, and to whom sacrifices are made, before any other deity in ritual.

Honoring Hestia Today
Hestia is traditionally represented by an image of a lamp with a perpetual flame. Today, some Greek reconstructionists, or Hellenic Pagans, continue to honor Hestia and all that she stands for.

To honor Hestia in your own rituals, try one or more of the following ideas:

Early worshipers offered young cows to Hestia, but that may not be practical for you. Instead, offerings of wine, olive oil, and fresh fruit are an acceptable substitute.
Keep a candle dedicated to Hestia burning on your hearth or mantle – if you don’t have a fireplace, your kitchen can be representative of the hearth.
When you’re working on any sort of domestic, home-focused project, honor Hestia with prayers, songs, or hymns.

Today is Monday, January 9th, We Celebrate….

Blessed Be ...Today is Monday, January 9th, We Celebrate….

Festival of Jana and Janus (Rome)
JANA

Themes: Lunar Energy; Perception

Symbols: The Moon; Silver or Shiny Items

About Jana: This Roman goddess, whose name means “luminous sky,” shines her light on the new year, extending improved insight and awareness as we move ahead. She is strongly associated with Juno and Diana and was often invoked before any other goddess in important undertakings. Traditional offerings to Jana included wine, incense, and barley.

To Do Today: To get Jana’s attention and assistance in any magic you have planned today, wear a piece of silver-toned jewelry or clothing (silver is the color of the moon).

For increased discernment to guide your actions in the months ahead, go outside with a silver-toned coin. Hold this to the moon, saying,

Jana, through the darkness and
through the day,
Light my path and guide my way.

Carry this token with you. Touch it and recite the incantation anytime you feel your judgment wavering.

To improve your awareness of personal lunar attributes (sensitivity, intuition, and the like), burn a stick of jasmine incense or any sweet scent and meditate. Get comfortable, visualizing a full moon pouring its light into the area of your third eye. If it helps your focus, chant

Jana, Juno, Diana, awake in me.

Make notes of the experience and any insights that come.

Baubo Invocation

Hail Baubo, Mother of Laughter,
Great open door upon your belly,
You who open all things,
The woman’s womb, the hard-bound heart,
The eyes shut tight in fear,
The belly full of mirth repressed,
All these you tear open like a child
Reveals their holiday gifts with glee.
We are your packages, your presents,
To undo as you will!
Today no weeping will sound through our halls,
And only mirth shall walk our paths,
O Baubo upon the bridge!
You watch those who walk down to the dark places,
You see those who weep their sorrow
Like Mother Demeter trailing in the dust,
And your great heart of understanding
Knows that no word of sense will ever help
When the shadows are darkest.
Only absurdity, only paradox
The extravagant, the foolish, the incredible,
The outlandish and preposterous,
Only these can make their way
Under the tight doors of desolation,
Through the cracks of misery.
A small thing, laughter, yet without it
We drown in the rivers of our own self-importance.
Hail Baubo, Mother of Mirth!

(One or more who have been chosen to do the work of the ritual come forth to do Baubo’s job. They must shed their clothing, and naked wear faces painted on their bellies, and tell jokes until laughter is rampant. Finish with the chant listed on Ilithyia’s Day.)

May The Goddess Shine Her Blessings Down on You & Yours This Monday Morn’!

witchcraftWitches

As the sun sets
The moon rises.
We are called.
Gathering deep in the forest
Our capes flap in the wind.
Hoods covering our head
As we form our circle
Hand in hand we take our places.
The elements are called forth:
Wind, rain, earth and fire.
We are filled with their energy.
In a low chant
We call for our Mother.
The Goddess answers our call,
She stands before us,
Center in our circle.
We lower our heads to her grace.
Our circle is filled with her love.
Energy flows from her to us.
Slowly we rise;
Our feet no longer touch the ground.
Wind rips through the trees.
Flames raise high from the fire.
Rain beats on the earth below
Yet, we remain dry.
Power transfers from Sister to Sister.
The Goddess’s influence is felt.
Sounds from the forest fill the air.
All is alive.
Energy fills all there,
We know who we are,
The Witches of the present.
Those long past have joined us.
We know our beginning.
We know our past.
We know our future,
Witches now and forever.

I Believe I Promised You Something Last Week, Now I Am Finally Delivering…….

Good Sunday morning, my sweets! How y’all doing this morning? I know one thing it is colder than a well-digger’s something, can’t never remember that part, lol! I don’t believe I told any of you (especially the new ones), we always try to take one day a week off on the weekends. Unfortunately, we have household work and other boring stuff to do. When it comes to housework, I get so jealous of those TV witches who can twitch their nose and its done. Gee, wouldn’t that be nice! But I did get my office cleaned up and found out I have a dead battery on one of our trucks. The battery isn’t even a year old yet and its dead. Hmm! It has been cold, cold, cold but still a battery should last longer than that. So tomorrow, I get to go to town and get a new battery, if it ain’t one thing, it is something else.

But about the promising part I did last week, I do believe I promised to make a ribbon for all our websites. The ribbon was going to show our pride in our practices and belief and most of all our pride in our Goddess. The ribbon was going to declare 2017 “The Year of the Goddess. Well, it might take me a day or two but I do eventually deliver on my promises. So without further ado, here is the “2017 Year of the Goddess” ribbon……

year5555555

It can be resized to fit your site, I have already tried it on one of our closed sites. I require no link back to us but I would love to see this ribbon on every site on the net. I know wishful thinking but it does let people know we are here, we are alive and this year we are going to be on fire for our Goddess, our beliefs and our religion. I am getting ready to put this ribbon on our site and I hope you will do the same.

Without the Divine, whether you believe in the Goddess or have your own Higher Being, nothing would be possible without them. Now is the time, we give them the rightful praise they deserve. Please join us!

Lady of the Abyss

Oh and by the way, I am not goofing off, I am rebuilding our Rec Room. It seems that several of our members enjoyed that room. They found it relaxing and enjoyed playing the games over there. So it is the first one of our Blogger sites to come back up. When it is finished, I will let you know.

Also besides the ribbon going up, I will be putting a link back up to Coven Life. If you remember that was one of the sites we were sponsoring. We dropped it along with all the others we sponsored because I knew all hell was getting ready to break loose and it did. I didn’t want to take any of the other sites with us so we let them go and explained why. Coven Life is getting ready to start operating again and since Lady Beltane is going to try to get her site up and running, we are going to put the link back up to it. Darn, I just keep making more work and more work for myself. I love it though. Well, if I plan on getting anything done today, got to run.

Have a super blessed day, my sweets!

General

General Horoscope

Expressing the truth as we see it can be complicated, especially when the resistance we encounter is not out in the open. The Sun’s yearly conjunction with suspicious Pluto sets the stage for power struggles in nearly any kind of relationship. Paradoxically, there are no winners if there is a loser, so we must look out for the good of all. Thankfully, the reliable Taurus Moon brings emotional support that can make all the difference in the world.

Aries

Aries Horoscope Mar 21 – Apr 19

Your intense drive for accomplishment today is also setting a deeper tone for the weeks ahead. However, you must renegotiate old commitments before taking on new responsibilities while the evolutionary Sun-Pluto conjunction emphasizes your 10th House of Career. Thankfully, you can push through current limitations and achieve higher levels of success if you’re willing to transform your public image and relinquish activities that distract you from your goals. Energy flows where attention goes.

Taurus

Taurus Horoscope Apr 20 – May 20

It takes quite a bit to stop you from progressing toward your self-appointed destination once you make up your mind. Your obstinacy is even more tenacious now as the willful Sun joins relentless Pluto, shedding new light on your obsessive behavior when it comes to reaching your goals. Ride your power for all it’s worth, but be attentive to the needs of others so you don’t unintentionally trample over them on your way to success. Sensitivity is not a weakness of mind, but an act of a compassionate heart.

Gemini

Gemini Horoscope May 21 – Jun 20

Unexpressed feelings of resentment can chip away at your confidence without you even realizing it. The emotionally intense Sun-Pluto conjunction occurs in your 8th House of Transformation, revealing the depth of your current metamorphosis. Nevertheless, others may not understand the strength of your convictions or the inevitability of your changes. You could undermine the support you need from your social network by channeling your frustration into petty arguments. Taking full responsibility for your decision to embark on a new path earns you credibility and respect.

Cancer

Cancer Horoscope Jun 21 – Jul 22

Although it’s nearly impossible to know where your current trajectory is heading, it’s obvious your world is irrevocably changing. There might not be anything you can do to slow this evolutionary process, but you could ease the pressures along the way. Turning your fear into hard work might be productive, but it won’t help you get to the underlying issue. There’s really no need to struggle; the simple act of letting go of your attachment to the caterpillar paves a smooth road to becoming a butterfly.

Leo

Leo Horoscope Jul 23 – Aug 22

Trying to connect with your inner child could be frustrating today, especially while all your attention is aimed toward the work ahead. Unavoidable responsibilities mount, making it clear that you must streamline your life for the sake of efficiency. The penetrating Sun-Pluto conjunction in your 6th House of Logistics requires you to prioritize your tasks so you have time to reconsider which parts of your job no longer serve you well. Eliminating fears and habits that hold you back clears the way for a more fulfilling expression of your talents. Worry less, roar more.

Virgo

Virgo Horoscope Aug 23 – Sep 22

You may know exactly what you want now and are in possession of a plan to get it. However, your ambitious drive could hurt someone you love unless you remember to consider their needs as well as your own. The radiant Sun’s annual hookup with resolute Pluto can either box you into a corner or empower you to shine your light into the darkness. There is no valid reason to continue to nurse negative feelings tied to events in the past. The sooner you acknowledge your fears, the better it will be for everyone involved.

Libra

Libra Horoscope Sep 23 – Oct 22

Sometimes you need to sink to the bottom before you can seek higher ground. Unfortunately, the mysterious Sun-Pluto conjunction falls in your 4th House of Roots, taking your emotions to a deeper level than you knew was possible. Feelings of disappointment or betrayal may surface now, but there’s no reason to flinch when you see what’s lurking in the shadows of your subconscious. Untangling your needs and desires can clear up a murky situation and initiate a profound process of recovery and transformation.

Scorpio

Scorpio Horoscope Oct 23 – Nov 21

You’re at a fork in the road now and you won’t be able to cycle back to this intersection after you make your decision. You may be required to surrender a belief you once considered important, since the unforgiving Sun-Pluto conjunction in your 3rd House of Communication shines light on anything that’s no longer needed. Don’t cling to an insecurity or hold onto a grudge that has outlasted its purpose. Keep in mind that your actions at this point of no return might have much greater impact than you realize. Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius Horoscope Nov 22 – Dec 21

A power struggle might be precipitated by a disagreement about money with a partner or family member today. Although a solution may seem non-existent at first, the conversation will likely shift from short-term concerns to deeper matters that raise issues of conflicting values. Nevertheless, your job isn’t to convince someone that your conclusions are valid; it’s to listen so you can establish common ground. Communication must be a two-way street if you want peace in your world.

Capricorn

Capricorn Horoscope Dec 22 – Jan 19

Your reactions to people who appear to be interfering with your life are extreme and it’s challenging to moderate your response today. You could easily precipitate an unwinnable battle with a fearful or controlling person who expresses needs you cannot meet. The intense Sun-Pluto conjunction in your sign can bring a long-simmering point of contention to an emotional climax. The real issue is whether you value the relationship enough to face your own shortcomings and do what’s necessary to make it work.

Aquarius

Aquarius Horoscope Jan 20 – Feb 18

Practicing self-restraint is an important key to your happiness now. You’re unlikely to make a scene while an uncompromising Sun-Pluto communion in your 12th House of Invisibility turns you in a more spiritual direction. Your current introspection won’t necessarily resolve relationship conflicts; nevertheless, you can balance any stress with patience and planning. Finding some quiet time by yourself gives you a chance to tap into an unused source of passion and power. Philosopher Martin Buber wrote, “Solitude is the place of purification.”

Pisces

Pisces Horoscope Feb 19 – Mar 20

If you’re not on top of a situation now you may wind up buried by it later on. Relationship issues weigh heavily on your mind while the compulsive Sun-Pluto alignment activates your 11th House of Social Networks. Take control of the process as much as possible rather than just trying to make everyone happy. Thankfully, you can achieve great things if you focus on carrying out your intentions and allowing your ambitions to fuel the fire in your belly. Believe it to achieve it.
