EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT 2019’S MERCURY RETROGRADES

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT 2019’S MERCURY RETROGRADES

The ancient Greeks called the planets asters planetai, or “wandering stars,” as they are in constant motion through the heavens against the fixed backdrop of the zodiac. Most of the time, planets move forward through the zodiac along a path we call the ecliptic, which is essentially the main highway. Now and then, though, planets depart from the straight and narrow to do a little extra wandering. But not all who wander are lost.

Retrograde planets are essentially seekers—not only going against the normal flow, eschewing forward motion, but also ditching the path altogether in favor of some winding side roads. This does not necessarily mean things are bound to go wrong, but it does mean that we on Earth are called to disengage auto-pilot, be observant, take our time, and take a lot less for granted.

Mercury is the planet of communication, commerce, and movement. Because it’s involved in almost all day-to-day activity, Mercury retrogrades—and their accompanying departures from the usual and the ordinary—are typically quite noticeable. If we release our expectations, this can be a fun and exciting shift.

MERCURY RETROGRADE AND WATER SIGNS

The three Mercury retrogrades of 2019 occur predominantly in the water signs of Pisces, Cancer, and Scorpio. In fact, due to some extra meandering, Mercury is slated to spend more time in the three water signs than just about all the other signs combined.

Water is receptive in nature, so the effects of Mercury retrograde in this element can be subtler when compared to its occurrence in others. Water has no shape of its own, taking on the shape of its surroundings; and with water, most of the interesting things are happening below the surface. Likewise, you may notice that something feels different before you can fully discern exactly what it is. You’re likely to feel unusually susceptible to the moods of others or the nature of your surroundings. Conversely, you may be able to affect the group vibe through emotional appeals. Water tends to unify and pool together in large bodies, so popularity can swing in great tides this year. An example? The enormously popular new age books The Celestine Prophecy and The Secret were both released during years with Mercury retrogrades in water signs.

YOUR SIGN AND THE TRANSIT

Water Signs: Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces

Some of the people, places, and things that are the most central to your life are likely to shift this year, and thus the way you feel about them could as well. The great news is that while you can’t control these changes, you can control your reactions to them; in this way, you could become a port in the storm for weary travelers. At the same time, you may find that there are things about your own basic identity that you actually want to change—and with a similar kind of support, these periods may be the perfect time to seek something new.

Fire Signs: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius

Water is your opposite element: in any direct interaction, water puts out your fire or you heat it to a boiling point. Therefore, an indirect approach is likely best. If you can take some time to rest and cool off, then the embers of your fire become easier for others to handle. As such, when things veer from the normal course, don’t allow yourself to get worked up—just pull over and take in the view for a bit. Curb your desire to go it alone and either ask for help or commiserate with others on your detour. You may just find a short cut together.

Earth Signs: Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn

You may have to put aside your natural practicality, relax your boundaries, and go with the flow. Allow yourself to feel as much as you think, and to honor your connections. Try to sense the universal messages always surrounding you.

Air Signs: Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius

Slow down, practice doing less, and notice that things tend to work out on their own—particularly when you don’t over-react. When things don’t naturally coalesce, notice the deeper source of the issue. Lessen the discordant voices and increase those that resonate with an organic harmony.

MERCURY RETROGRADE IN PISCES—HOROSCOPES AND HOW TO DEAL

MERCURY RETROGRADE IN PISCES—HOROSCOPES AND HOW TO DEAL

Retrograde planets are on a mission to get off the beaten path and explore the celestial backroads. This itinerant feeling is especially true of Mercury in Pisces. Each of the planets has certain signs they call home, and for Mercury these are Gemini and Virgo. When Mercury is opposite its home signs, it is like a traveler far from home who may not have access to all its natural resources.

In its explorations of the side roads and alleyways of Pisces, Mercury can get into situations where a Virgoan attention to detail and efficiency simply won’t do the trick. In Pisces, opening to a wider mystical view of things is necessary, and this can be very overwhelming if your brain is stuck in detail mode. Fortunately, there is a small zone of Pisces where Mercury has a place to retreat and get its affairs in order. Mercury enters this zone on March 21, a week before station direct, so while this particular retrograde may be more intense initially, it won’t last quite as long as others.

ASTROLOGICAL ASPECTS OF MERCURY RETROGRADE IN PISCES 2019

Because of the back and forth motion, Mercury repeats aspects to the same planet three times during its passage through Pisces. The most difficult of these aspects is the square to Jupiter, the natural ruler of Pisces. These squares happen on February 22, March 15, and April 11. Friction with authorities is generally best avoided—this is especially true if you are a wanderer. If toes get stepped on, be generous with apologies, offer to make amends far exceeding what seems necessary, and add a touch of irony or humor.

Mercury makes three conjunctions with mystical Neptune on February 19, March 24, and April 2. It’s best to relax expectations around these dates, and keep a lot of wiggle room for yourself. With an open mind and the proper setting, exquisite visions of artistic or religious splendor are possible. Help is available if you ask for it from the three sextiles to Saturn on February 19, March 20, and April 7. Watch for trends as each of these aspects repeat, learn from the previous experience and adjust accordingly.

KEY DATES FOR MERCURY RETROGRADE IN PISCES 2019

March 5 Mercury stations retrograde at 29° Pisces 39’

WHICH SIGNS ARE MOST AFFECTED BY THE TRANSIT?

Water signs: Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces

Your ability to switch between and re-define your roles, take creative risks, and expand upon your successes will define your experience. This may be harder to explain to others than to pull off, so don’t let yourself get bogged down by doubters but just reassure them you care and keep moving.

Fire Signs: Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius

Your deepest connections may be upset or challenged during this period, whether at home, in business and romantic relations, or in your spiritual community. It’s imperative you keep your cool if these things are to work themselves out. Allow yourself to take a time-out and blow off steam before coming back, re-affirming your emotional commitments and asking what you can do to help or make it better. Be sure to listen before rushing to fix it.

HOROSCOPES TO HELP YOU DEAL

The fishes of Pisces swim in the ocean of the collective unconscious. Your most powerful ally during this transit is your imagination, so you should practice using it as often as possible. Try to imagine what would have happened next in your dream had you not awakened. Imagine alternate endings to the movie or show you watched recently. Allow your mind to wander while doing menial tasks and even take more frequent short breaks where you can sit and daydream even if for just a few minutes. If you make space for it to live and breathe in your life, sooner or later the unconscious will bless you with imaginative solutions. The key is to think less and imagine more.

ARIES

Discretion is the better part of valor dear Aries, so find some time to get away. Practice avoiding direct conflict, direct action, and forthright speech. Take the long way home whenever you can. Find a secret hiding spot that feels like it belongs to you. In the midst of these experiences, you will find a strange peace. From here, you can see that very little in life needs to be forced, so learn to apply it only when truly necessary.

TAURUS

For all your practicality, you tend to surround yourself with dreamers. Ask yourself why this is. Could it be that you need the dream of a greener pasture to inspire you to green up the ones in which you live? Instead of poo-pooing your imaginative friends, encourage them to take it further by asking what happens next. By doing this simple thing, you will get partial credit when the dreamers finally do strike gold.

GEMINI

You sometimes have a reputation for dancing on the surface and avoiding the depths, dear Gemini. I suggest you break out your swimsuit and practice your best swan dive or mud wrestling moves. By showing you care enough to go deep or get dirty without hesitation, you can enhance your reputation and be seen as more of a leader.

CANCER

Expanding your horizons need not involve anything new. Re-visiting creative projects that you thought were dead ends could pay off now. Risks that didn’t pay off before may have a better chance now, so give good ideas another shot. See how the person you are now would do it slightly differently than the person you were, and adjust accordingly.

LEO

You have your reasons for being suspicious of the human heart, dear Leo. But avoiding emotional entanglements denies yourself access to other people’s gifts as well. You tend to need structure or limits in place before your emotional life can flow freely.  Practice the art of granting exceptions to these rules. This keeps things orderly, without having to withhold the fiery spirit that draws people to you.

VIRGO

We like to think of our closest relationships as being truly equal, but in truth, this is rarely the case. The balance of power constantly swings back and forth between two people, depending on the situation and their needs. Rather than keeping scores from the past, or withholding gratification till the future, I suggest you practice the art of the deal in the present by imagining multiple win-win scenarios and then seeing which one any moment tends to favor.

LIBRA

Mastery of anything involves repetition, but as an artist, there is a fine line between mastering a skill, developing a niche, and getting pigeon-holed. It may be time for you to open up, accept new challenges, and develop new skills or new applications for the ones you have. Being willing to try plenty of things that don’t work and making a mess of things before figuring it out is always part of this process. Let go of certainties and cultivate beginners mind.

SCORPIO

Fixed signs are not renowned for their willingness to take risks, and yet this is the price of entry to anything worthwhile. You are changing, and your ability to take risks with this new identity is vital to its growth. Hedge your bets or spread the risk out somewhat, but you must be willing to lose in order to win. Keeping a philosophical attitude toward this process can help take the sting out of any losses.

SAGITTARIUS

Adventures await you on the home-front. Whether it is guests from out of town, renovation projects, or someone needing more or new space, the winds of change are going to keep you up a little. Get some extra rest and make sure to eat right when you can. Most of all make sure the people you love know that your support is unconditional.

CAPRICORN

The relationships between various groups in your community may be in a state of flux. Your loyalties may be tried in the process. But rather than simply choosing sides, it could be that you can serve as an intermediary and help each group see the others side. To do this, you will need to acknowledge and divest yourself of any conflicts of interest.

AQUARIUS

You are being called to discover and exploit resources you didn’t know you had. We tend to think of resources as finite and limited, but when we really need to we can always dig down and find a little extra. In the process, we usually find things we’ve forgotten or didn’t know were there. These may appear to be junk at first, but with a little imagination can be transformed.

PISCES

What is truth? Pisces native Johnny Cash wrote a song with this title when an invitation to perform at the White House challenged him to reconcile his conflicting identities as a progressive maverick and conservative family man. Skillfully, he did not deign to the proffered role of patriot, but rather found a way to inhabit both identities by suggesting that helping seemingly misguided youth find the truth was important, as they are the keepers of the future. How can you similarly reconcile seemingly conflicting parts of your identity?

Your Daily Cosmic Calendar for Sunday, Feb. 10th

COSMIC CALENDAR

The first major celestial movement of the day is significant as Mercury enters Pisces (2:52 a.m.) for a lengthy stay of over two months until April 16 due to a future retrograde cycle between March 5 and March 28. Mercury in Pisces reminds you to be truly empathic and lend a helping hand to dear ones on the edge.

Anticipate a ratcheting-up of tensions as the moon in Aries makes its monthly conjunctions with Mars and Uranus (12:49 p.m. and 3:49 p.m., respectively). The lunar union with surprise-bringer Uranus starts a void lunar limbo cycle that lasts until the moon enters earthy Taurus (5:30 p.m.). Meanwhile, Mercury points you in the direction of focusing attention on dealing carefully with business and professional matters by making a tense, 45-degree tie to Saturn (4:27 p.m.) and a much more encouraging, 72-degree link to Jupiter (10:06 p.m.).

Asteroid watchers should recognize that Juno re-enters Gemini (8:22 p.m.) until April 20. (Juno had been briefly in Gemini from September 29 to October 24, 2018.) Strive for crystal-clear discussions with loved ones to prevent a resurgence of bickering over minor concerns.

Spirit Message of the Day – Be Grace-full

Spirit Message of the Day – Be Grace-full

BEING GRACIOUS
“Being ungrateful is one of the greatest acts of self-centeredness. It’s important for one to recognize that it’s a behavior to be avoided at all costs. Being grateful for everything you have makes you a better person, and it makes others happy to be around you.” Acknowledge what you feel grateful for silently and out loud to your friends and loved ones. Appreciate the gifts people give you each and every day whether tangible or not. Realize the power of grace. Allow your life, your thoughts, your words, and your deeds to be full of grace.

Instructions

Step 1
Make gratitude part of your daily life. Recognizing others for what they have done for you, even the small acts of kindness, is necessary even when the person is family or a close friend.
Step 2
Say “Thank You” for every act of kindness received. It’s so simple to say and yet so often taken for granted. It’s especially true when it comes to your own family members.
Step 3
Express your gratitude and appreciation often. Take the time to write a note or send an email even if you already said thank you. Send a gift to show your appreciation for someone’s help.
Step 4
Look for opportunities to reciprocate favors as soon as possible.Be observant and give service instead of asking if help is needed.
Step 5
Count your blessings instead of wishing for more and moping about what you don’t have. Write down a list of things you are grateful for and you will be amazed at what you have to be grateful for. Experiencing gratitude is closely tied to being happy.
Step 6
Provide ways to support others who are less fortunate. You never know when the tables might be turned one day.
Becoming the type of person that is grateful for life is essential to a fulfilled and happy life. Things you’ll need: An open attitude and realization of the goodness of life.

Instructions

Step 1
Notice the small things. There are small things about life that you can be grateful for at this moment. The air you are breathing, this is a major one. Breathe in the air and realize being allowed to have air is an amazing feeling. Don’t take this for granted. Also the water you consume be grateful for this as well. This is essential to life.
Step 2
Form a list everyday. Make a list of the things in nature that you are grateful for and gradually provide reasons and feeling why you are grateful for them. As you build this list you will feel very empowered. This gratitude list will help you on you life journey. Remember to put things here you feel grateful for.
Step 3
Be grateful for life. There are many things to be grateful for on the material level. A roof over your head, your car, your clothes etc. But what I want to point out here is there is a second level of gratitude that is more powerful than the material. This second level is being grateful for life. This is being grateful for life experiences, trees, air, friendships, close relationships. These are more powerful because they have a feeling attached to them. This makes it more real and authentic to you and the universe.

The Energy of the Sun

The planetary energy of the Sun is stimulating and warm. It encourages growth and expansion as well as general good feelings all around. It may be used for magick related to the growth of anything; career, family, public influence, wealth, the garden, friendships, love, general abundance, employment opportunities, business. Because the Sun shines down on the whole world, and thus sees everything that happens, the Sun’s planetary energy is occasionally used to find objects as well as protecting us from deception or being “kept in the dark”. Looking at the Sun’s universality in a different way, this energy can be used to find a common thread (we’re all warmed by the same Sun) to encourage new friendships and partnerships and reconciliation where existing ones are threatened.

Many things that correspond to the planetary energy of the Sun also correspond to the elemental energy of Fire.

Healing

The sun is associated with the heart, circulatory system, the spinal cord and the thymus gland.

Solar Minerals

Metal Gold

Crystals/Stones

Yellow, red and particularly bright, shiny crystals and stones tend to correspond to the energy of the Sun. diamond, ruby, chrysolite, yellow topaz, citrine, red garnet, chrysoprase and amber- fossilized tree sap said to contain the energy of the Sun as metabolized by the tree. Corundum and yellow Tiger’s Eye show sparkling designs that remind one of the sun and of course, there is sunstone.

Crystals and metals that correspond to the planetary energy of the Sun can be worn, carried or placed on the body to encourage healing or to draw planetary energies ruled by the sun, such as abundance to the individual. They may also be used to create a gem elixir and ingested, assuming they do not contain toxic materials. Crystals can be placed in a location to draw the desired energies to your home, place of business or vehicle as desired, placed on the altar, held, or gazed upon to enhance energies being raised during spellwork or other focusing and manifesting exercises.

Solar Plants and herbs

Plants that resemble the sun in shape or color, that open during the day and close at night, that follow the sun’s movements during the day, and those plants that are traditionally associated with the winter solstice as well as those that provide winter nourishment when fresh plants are unavailable, such as grains and nuts. Physically, edible Sun plants tend to encourage a feeling of warm satisfaction and medicinal plants affect the heart. sunflower, calendula, marigold, daylily, orange, citron, saffron, pine, mistletoe, rosemary, buttercup, heliotrope, bay laurel, daisy, walnut, acorn, maize, wheat, hops, cloves, cinnamon

Herbs can be incorporated into magick by placing them on the altar in the form of fresh flowers or dried potpourri or incorporated into incense to enhance energies raised during spellwork and ritual of a solar nature. They can also be carried or worn in a pouch or placed in an area to attract these energies. An herbal floor wash will infuse an area with the desired energies, or this may be accomplished via fumigation. Edible plants can be consumed as part of a meal or as part of an elixir or other herbal preparation. Those herbs that are skin-safe can be added to massage oils or fragrance sprays and ritual baths. Whole herbs or essential oils may be used.

*Incense* cinnamon, clove, pine, citrus, Benzoin, Pine, Frankincense, Labdanum, Olibanum

Sun fragrances are generous and, to me, home sweet home types of smells, with the exception of a few, which have “special occasion” feels to me. The sorts of smells that fill a temple, or the house on a day when lots of company is coming.

Days and Holidays

The Winter Solstice is the day most strongly associated with Solar Energy, though it peaks at the Summer Solstice, it declines thereafter.

Sunday is the Sun’s day.

Zodiac Leo is ruled by the sun.

Other Solar Correspondences

Animals Lion, Sparrowhawk, Griffin, hawk

While animal parts are used for magick in many traditions, they can be difficult or impossible to obtain and some animals are endangered, though you may find using feathers and fur of local animals to be feasible, using important bits of animals that aren’t already raised and slaughtered for food isn’t within the reach or moral compass of most modern witches. Using live animals subjects animals to discomfort and fear and is also not recommended. However, images of animals have a long history of use in magic and images of animals are quite easy to obtain as 2D pictures and 3D sculptures. If you are artistic, the very act of creating these images can help you more closely attune to their energy.

Colors

Orange, amber, gold, yellow, red

Many magic-users bring color into their working through their choice of colored candles, altar cloth and other items placed on the altar. If you wish to bring solar energy into your daily life, you may choose corresponding colors for your clothing or even chose paint, curtains and carpet colors to draw solar energy into your space.

Magick Prosperity, wealth, wealth, growth, confidence, clarity, commonality, abundance, truth, harmony, partnerships.

YEMAJA

Themes: Providence; Blessing; Luck; Fertility

Symbols: Fish; the Color Blue; the Crescent Moon

About Yemaja: Yemaja, the Nigerian goddess of flowing water, bears a name that literally means “fish mother”! As such, Yemaja generates providence and fertility, especially on the physical plane. In legends she gave birth to eleven deities, the sun, the moon, and two streams of water that formed a lake. In art she’s often shown as a mermaid or a crescent moon, and her favorite color is blue.

To Do Today: The theme for the day is definitely fishy. Not surprisingly, new year festivities in Nigeria mark the beginning of the fishing season. Having a teeming net today portends prosperity for the rest of the season. So, what is it that you hope to catch today? Cast out your spiritual line to Yemaja for help in meeting or exceeding any goal.

To bite into a little luck, follow the example of Nigerian children. They make candies in fish shapes before this event, then dunk for them. The one to retrieve the most gets the most good fortune. Check out your local supermarket’s bulk candy section. Ours carries gummy fish that work very well for this activity. Consider including some type of fish in your menu today (even canned tuna will do the trick). Eat it to internalize good luck and a little of Yemaja’s blessings.

Today is Sunday, February 10

Traditionally, Sunday is the first day of the week. It is also known as the Lord’s Day from it original association with the Lord, that is, the Sun God, personified as Helios, Apollo, Ogmios, Mithras, and St. Elia. But in the Northern Tradition, the sun is seen as feminine, personified as the goddess known as Phoebe in East Anglia and Saule in eastern Europe. The sun rules the conscious element of the human being, the ego, the real self, and Sunday is the day on which this conscious power is at its most effective.

The Sky This Week from February 10 to 17

Two nice planetary conjunctions take place this week, one in the evening sky and the other before dawn, while the Moon remains a star attraction all week.

By Richard Talcott

Sunday, February 10
Mars continues to shine brightly on February evenings. Look for the Red Planet halfway to the zenith in the southwestern sky as darkness falls. The world glows at magnitude 1.0 against the much dimmer stars of Pisces the Fish. Tonight, Mars sits 6° to the right of the waxing crescent Moon. A telescope reveals the planet’s 6″-diameter disk, but you likely won’t see any surface details.

Venus appears brilliant in the southeast before dawn. It reached greatest western elongation in early January and continues to dominate the predawn sky. The inner world shines at magnitude –4.2, nearly 10 times brighter than the second-brightest planet, Jupiter. Venus rises by 4:30 a.m. local time and stands 15° high an hour before the Sun comes up. The planet lies among the background stars of Sagittarius, close to two of the Archer’s finest deep-sky objects. Both this morning and tomorrow morning, open star cluster M25 lies 2° north of Venus and globular cluster M22 resides 3° south of the planet. All three objects fit nicely in the field of 7×50 binoculars. Through a telescope, Venus shows a disk that spans 18″ and appears two-thirds lit.

If you grab a telescope and target the Moon this evening, you can watch a few points of light evolve into a prominent letter X. Focus on a spot along the terminator — the dividing line between lunar day and night — almost halfway from the equator to the south pole. Use the twin craters Aliacensis and Werner as guides to the Lunar X, which lies just to their northwest. In the image above, the X is just beginning to show. Although the X is just a chance alignment of light and shadow as the Sun rises over a group of crater walls, it’s fun to see because it triggers our brain’s pattern-recognition ability.

Tuesday, February 12
You can find the First Quarter Moon high in the south as darkness falls, then watch as it sinks toward the western horizon throughout the evening hours. Our satellite officially reaches First Quarter phase at 5:26 p.m. EST. The Moon lies in western Taurus, some 10° south of the Pleiades star cluster (M45).

You can use Mars as a guide to find Uranus through binoculars or a telescope tonight and tomorrow night. Both planets lie on the border between the constellations Pisces the Fish and Aries the Ram. This evening, Mars stands 1.0° north-northwest of its neighbor; tomorrow night, the Red Planet lies 1.1° due north of its neighbor. Both worlds show up nicely through binoculars or a telescope at low power, though only a scope reveals the planets’ disks. Mars measures 5.7″ across while Uranus, despite lying 12 times farther away, spans 3.5″. Neither object shows much, if any, detail, but the ruddy color of Mars contrasts nicely with the blue-green of Uranus.

Wednesday, February 13
The waxing gibbous Moon marches eastward relative to the background stars of Taurus this evening, passing through the conspicuous Hyades star cluster. Although everyone in North America will have wonderful views of our satellite’s journey, those farther east will see Luna centered in the V-shaped cluster shortly after darkness falls. Binoculars should provide the best views of this beautiful encounter.

Thursday, February 14
One of the sky’s most familiar constellations rules January’s sky from dusk until after midnight local time. Orion the Hunter appears conspicuous in the southeast as darkness falls and climbs highest in the south around 8 p.m. It then stands about halfway to the zenith from mid-northern latitudes. The waxing gibbous Moon stands above Orion this evening, while the night sky’s brightest star, Sirius, trails about an hour behind the Hunter.

Friday, February 15
Mercury returns to the evening sky in mid-February. This evening, it appears 5° high in the west-southwest 30 minutes after sunset. It shines at magnitude –1.1, bright enough to show up against the twilight glow. (If you don’t see Mercury right away, binoculars will bring it into view.) A telescope reveals the planet’s disk, which spans 5.6″ and appears nearly full. By the end of February, the innermost planet will be much easier to see as it climbs 11° above the western horizon a half-hour after the Sun goes down.

Saturday, February 16
Jupiter continues to grow more prominent in the southeastern sky before dawn. The giant planet rises around 3 a.m. local time and climbs 20° high by the first hint of twilight. Jupiter gleams at magnitude –2.0, though it still pales in comparison to Venus, which rises 100 minutes after the giant world. A telescope shows Jupiter’s 35″-diameter disk and at least two conspicuous cloud belts as well as the planet’s four bright Galilean satellites. In an unusual alignment, all four moons lie east of the gas giant this morning.

Sunday, February 17
If you thought the midweek conjunction of Mars and Uranus was special, wait until you see Venus and Saturn team up before dawn. The two bright planets lie 1.6° apart this morning and will approach within 1.1° of each other tomorrow. Venus shines at magnitude –4.2, some 80 times brighter than magnitude 0.6 Saturn. If you look carefully, you’ll also see the 3rd-magnitude star Pi (π) Sagittarii between the two. Use your naked eye or binoculars to view the stunning scene.

Solar Lore

In the beginning there was only darkness and people kept bumping into each other. Fox said that people on the other side of the world had plenty of light but were too greedy to share it. Possum went over there to steal a little piece of the light. He found the Sun hanging in a tree, lighting everything up. He took a tiny piece of the Sun and hid it in the fur of his tail. The heat burned the fur off his tail. That is why possums have bald tails. Buzzard tried next. He tried to hide a piece of Sun in the feathers of his head. That is why buzzards have bald heads. Grandmother Spider tried next. She made a clay bowl. Then she spun a web (Milky Way) across the sky reaching to the other side of the world. She snatched up the whole sun in the clay bowl and took it back home to our side of the world.
