Day of the Elders

Colors: Grey, silver, and purple
Element: Earth
Altar: On cloth of purple, grey, and silver place three lit grey candles scented with cypress, a branch of yew, a silver chalice of fruit juice, and a silver tray of frosted white cakes.
Offerings: Food or other aid given to organizations that give aid to elders. Offer to spend time helping or keeping companionship with an elder.
Daily Meal: Allow the three eldest members of the community to choose the meal.

Invocation to the Elder Spirit

Hail, Old One,
Crone and Wise Man,
Silver of hair
And adamant of spirit,
Aged like fine wine
Through years of experience;
You who watch the young ones grow
And remember their path
And tell them the pitfalls ahead,
You who have made a friend
Of changing Time,
You whom Saturn has blessed
With a double circle,
You who keep the mysteries
And the secret knowledge,
You who mentor and teach,
Show us how to walk gracefully
Into the sunset of life.

(The chant for this day should be a wordless harmony. First the cakes are passed around, served in order of age, eldest first; then the juice is likewise shared. Then each member of the community, starting with the youngest, goes before each member who is past their second Saturn return, or if there are none the eldest among them, kneels, and asks for their blessing. After the next eldest has asked for the blessing of the eldest, the ritual is ended.)

Can There Be Witches That Are Also Christians?

This is a subject that has been hotly debated since Christianity first became an accepted religion and the debate I feel that will never have a definite answer.

Some people believe they can at least partially combine Christianity and Paganism usually by still thinking of Jesus as a  god or because many Christians already worship a triple god “the father, son, holy ghost or spirit” and saints to help them with certain things so jumping to a belief in a Triple Goddess and other goddesses isn’t that big of a jump. Many never call upon other gods than those they already believe in. Mostly the Christians that combine The Craft and Christianity are just bring the feminine divine back into their lives.

I have found over the years that the two were combined very early in the ancient history of religions. For example “In a way, Gnosticism is the best example of Hellenic Syncretism” ( see links below for more information). Another example of Christianity and Paganism crossing over is with two major holidays Easter and Ostara also Christmas and Yule. The early Christians trying to convert pagans purposely put the resurrection of Jesus close to Yule the Pagans celebration of the birth of Odin/the Oak King and the coming of the Maiden or spring time of year. So by putting Jesus birth in the wrong season, the Christians could use it to say something like . “See the son of our God is born now also.”

Let me interject here that it has been scientifically proven that the man known for the last 2056 years, give or take a year or two, as Jesus Christ or Jesus of Nazareth or by other names as well was born not born in the winter. There is a debate ongoing in the scientific community over which season and what exact year he was born. (Click the link below for more information) These are not the only holidays that Christians purposely used to convert pagans almost any Sabbat on the Wheel of the Year has a Christian holy day of some sort close to it or even on the same date. (Click on the link below for more information)

I have included a link for YouTube that presents the views of people who say they are Christian WItches.

Now my personal view is how can a person believe that there is a son of God that will cleanse them of all the wrongs they have done to others and/or themselves also believe in the Wicce Rede of “Do as ye will, lest it harm none.” and if you do harm someone with words and/or actions you need to take responsibility for the wrong and apologize or whatever to make what happened a thing of this past and most importantly forgive yourself. We as pagans do not ask a god or goddess to take away our wrongdoings to be free of them we free ourselves of the wrongs we have done. How can a person practice a religion that does not believe in a heaven or hell or satan when that is part of the core of Christianity? Part of the Christian dogma is the 10 commandments of which the first one is “Thou shall have no other God before me.” So does this mean a Christian Witch is breaking one of the main rules of Christianity if they use a different god and/or goddess for a spell and/or ritual? And if they do break the commandment do they ask the son, Jesus, of their one God to forgive them for doing so? Christians are also not supposed to worship idols (which if you go into some of the different denominations of the Christian churches you could see Jesus hanging dead from a cross and other statues of saints. Are they not all ready worshiping idols when they pray to them asking for their help with interceding with God to bring about something in their life? In my personal opinion and also from trying to meld Christianity and Paganism some may be able to justify what they are doing but I could not keep denying the feminine part of the dual nature of the Devine.

I have included in this post a link to a general search on how witches are talked about in all the Christian Bibles. Not one of them is a positive statement toward witchcraft. In fact, all of the passages condemn witchcraft in one way or another. So how can a Christian not follow the book that is supposed to be a guide in how they should live their lives? How can they practice Witchcraft when it is expressly forbidden by the commandments and other passages of the book their faith has been built on?

I have tried to give you enough information to form your own opinion on whether or not a Christian can also be a Witch that practices Witchcraft. So I would like your viewpoint on whether a person can mix Christianity with Witchcraft/Paganism?

Mercury Retrograde 5 March 2019 – Hurtful Words

Mercury retrograde March 2019 begins on March 5 at 29° Pisces and ends on March 28 at 16° Pisces. Mercury retrograde is a regular cycle occurring three or four times a year for about 24 days. Mercury retrograde is associated with communication and technology breakdowns, nervous anxiety, travel delays and lost items.

You may reminisce about the past or unexpectedly meet up with people from your past. Business negotiations are often in a state of flux during Mercury retrograde, with some important details not yet be available.

Mercury Retrograde March 2019
The Mercury retrograde phase is just one part of the Mercury retrograde cycle. The whole cycle includes Mercury going direct, retrograde, and direct again over the same degrees, or the retrograde zone (16° to 29° Pisces). The two direct phases are known as shadow periods. The three phases of Mercury retrograde March 2019:

February 19 to March 5 –The first shadow phase from Mercury entering the retrograde zone until Mercury stationary retrograde (16° to 29° Pisces).
March 5 to 28 – The Retrograde phase lasts from Mercury stationary retrograde until the Mercury direction station (29° to 16° Pisces)
March 28 to April 16 – The second shadow phase lasts from Mercury stationary direct until Mercury leaving the retrograde zone (16° to 29° Pisces).

Mercury Enters Retrograde Zone
During the first shadow period you will get an idea of the thinking, communication or transport issues that will arise during the retrograde phase (see chart).

Mercury enters the retrograde zone at 16°05′ Pisces on Tuesday February 19, the same day as the exciting, adventurous and sexy February 2019 full moon. It brought opportunities for change, romance and success.

Mercury conjunct Neptune on its own can bring confusion, fear, deception and scandal. But sextile Venus Saturn it brings sensitivity, romance, sensuality, karmic attraction and creative imagination.

Together with the full moon and other planets, the first Mercury direct phase brought compassion, healing, selflessness, clairvoyance and spirituality. This is a time for dreaming, psychic awareness and learning occult subjects like astrology and Tarot.

Mercury Stationary Retrograde
Mercury retrograde on Tuesday March 5, 2019 at 29°38′ Pisces is conjunct the minor planet Chiron and a fixed star in Pegasus Constellation called Scheat. This difficult star is a strong influence in March 2019. Mercury is conjunct Scheat from February 28 to March 10. Chiron stays within the 2° orb of Scheat until March 18. Finally, the Sun in the March 20 full moon is conjunct Scheat.

Fixed star Scheat at 29°37′ Pisces causes extreme misfortune, murder, suicide, and drowning. According to Robson [1], with Mercury it causes many accidents and narrow escapes especially by water, many enemies, trouble through writings, and is bad for health and domestic affairs. However, Ebertin [2] said:
it is possible for a positive influence to emanate from Scheat, but only for some people and having an effect on their mental creativity if these people are ready to receive such inflow.

Mercury conjunct Chiron suggests communications will be a source of pain. Hurtful words may include teasing, name calling and other forms of verbal abuse. Online bullying and it’s influence on teenage suicide is likely to make the news.

Opinions about people with mental illness and physical disabilities will also come into focus. Issues may involve abuse, discrimination and the perception some people have that disabled people are less intelligent than they are.

A more positive side to Mercury conjunct Chiron is the ability to really listen to people’s problems and understand their pain. Your words may have hurt people in the past but they can heal people now. Mercury with Chiron also gives healing hand.

This bi-wheel chart shows the close relationship between Mercury retrograde March 5, 2019 at 29 ♓ 38, and Mercury retrograde March 4, 1973 at 28 ♓ 35. Thank you to Jen Rose for finding this connection.

IRA bombings and EU votes and opinion polls about Northern Ireland occurred in early March 1973. Mars setting in the Brexit horoscope will keep causing hostility right up to 11 p.m. on 29 March 2019.

Mercury Stationary Direct
Mercury direct on March 28, 2019 at 16°05′ Pisces is conjunct Neptune and a star in Constellation Eridanus the River called Achernar. Both Neptune and Achernar have a spiritually enlightening and psychic influence on Mercury retrograde from March 24 to 28, and on Mercury direct from March 28 to April 4.

Mercury conjunct Neptune lasts from March 21 to April 6, and is exact on March 24 (retrograde) and April 2 (direct). Mercury stations direct half a degree ahead of Achernar but stays within orb of this star from March 21 to April 4.

Just as other factors highlighted the Mercury retrograde degree, the Mercury direct degree is also activated by other astrology. The March 6 new moon, one day after Mercury stations retrograde, is at 15°47′ Pisces conjunct Neptune and Achernar. Thankfully, this star has a more positive influence than Scheat.

Fixed star Achernar at 15°34′ Pisces gives success in public office, beneficence, and religion. [1] Well placed, it promises happiness and success by giving good morals, faithful adherence to one’s religious beliefs, or a philosophical inclination. [2]

The following channeled material about Mercury conjunct Achernar comes from a book called The Fixed Star Health and Behavior Imbalance [3]:

These individuals accomplish many things. This creates an expansion of the psychic through the subconscious. They are always in communication with the spiritual realm. When asking a question of their spirit guides, the answer comes to them immediately. There is no waiting even though it may be a question from their own ego subconscious, or a question asked by another. The answers are given immediately. They can be psychics for the public or it can be used for their own benefit. There can be difficulty with earthbound and mundane matters so that they need someone who can take care of these functions for them. They generally seek out a partner who wants to be needed and who can take care of those earthly necessities for them. It is difficult for them to take care of their own physical needs and they require a partner who is more on the mundane level.

Mercury conjunct Neptune enhances your imagination, creativity and empathy. It will focus your thinking and communications on spiritual topics, mysteries, the occult and secrets.

Valuable insights can be gained through meditation, dreaming, and practicing occult fields like astrology and Tarot. You may become involved in some intrigue or secret affair, where it is important to maintain the highest of moral standards to avoid scandal and slander.

Mercury conjunct Neptune can impact your thinking and communications in a negative way through misconception, irrationality, confusion, fear and paranoia. This is more likely during Mercury retrograde up to March 28, and maybe for a few more days until Mercury speed up. You should beware of deceit, treachery, lies, poison and all manner of underhand tactics.

However, Mercury direct is on a positive fixed star and makes harmonious aspects to the Moon and Saturn. So Mercury direct conjunct Neptune is more likely give reliable psychic perception, with unbiased processing of this spiritual information. Ultimately, you can express these insights through compassionate, supportive and selfless words, thought projection and healing hands.

Mercury leaves the retrograde zone on Tuesday April 16, 2019 at 29°38′ Pisces (see chart).

Sun & Moon Folklore

Many years ago, the sun and water were great friends, and they both lived on the earth togther. The sun very often used to visit the water, but the water never returned the visits.

At last the sun asked the water why he never visited. The water replied that the sun’s house was not big enough, and that if he came with all his people, he would drive the sun out of his home.

The water then said, “If you want me to visit you, you will have to build a very large house. But I warn you that it will have to be very large, as my people are numerous and take up a lot of room”.

The sun promised to build a very large house, and soon afterwards, he returned home to his wife, the moon, who greeted him with a broad smile.

The sun told the moon what he had promised the water, and the next day, they began building a large house to entertain the water and all his people.

When it was completed, the sun asked the water to come and visit him.

When the water arrived, one of his people called out to the sun, and asked him whether it would be safe for the water to enter, and the sun answered, “Yes, tell my friend to come in.”

The water began to flow in, followed by the fish and all the other water animals.

Very soon, the water was knee-deep in the house, so he asked the sun if it was still safe, and the sun again said, “Yes,” so more of them came in.

When the water was at the level of a man’s head, the water said to the sun, “Do you want more of my people to come?”

Not knowing any better, the sun and the moon both said, “Yes,”. More and more of the water’s people came in, until the sun and the moon had to sit on top of the roof.

The water once again asked the sun if it was still okay to keep coming in. The sun and moon answered yes, so more and more of the water’s people came in.

The water soon overflowed the top of the roof, and the sun and the moon were forced to go up into the sky.

…and they have been there ever since.

This Week’s Sky at a Glance, February 22 – March 2

By: Alan MacRobert

Wednesday, February 27

• After dark at this time of year, five carnivore constellations come out of hibernation in a row from the northeast to south. They’re all seen in profile with their noses pointing up and their feet (if any) to the right. These are Ursa Major the Big Bear in the northeast (with the Big Dipper its brightest part), Leo the Lion in the east, Hydra the Sea Serpent in the southeast, Canis Minor the Little Dog higher in the south-southeast, and bright Canis Major the Big Dog in the south.

Thursday, February 28

• As February turns to March, Sirius shines highest in the south in early evening. Its faint white-dwarf companion star, the first super-dense object ever discovered, is a notoriously difficult telescopic sighting for amateurs. But for nearly a decade to come, Sirius B appears about as far from Sirius A as it ever does. And the time to try is when Sirius is highest! For tips on detecting it (11 arcseconds east-northeast of Sirius A), see Bob King’s Sirius B — a New Pup in My Life.

And for more about this and other telescopic targets in Canis Major, turn to Sue French’s Deep-Sky Wonders column in the February Sky & Telescope, page 54.

• The crescent Moon in Friday’s early dawn offers you Saturn a few degrees to its left, as shown above (for North America).

Friday, March 1

• This is the time of year when Orion stands straight upright due south as the stars come out. Later in the evening, and later in the month, he begins his long tilt down toward the west.

• Algol is at its minimum light, magnitude 3.4 instead of its usual 2.1, for about two hours centered on 7:19 p.m. EST. Whenever you glance up at Algol at a random time, you have only a 1 in 30 chance of catching it at least a magnitude fainter than normal.

• Now in Saturday’s dawn, the low crescent Moon introduces Venus to its left, the “star” of the morning show.

Saturday, March 2

• Look east after dusk this week for the constellation Leo already climbing well up the sky. Its brightest star is Regulus, and the Sickle of Leo extends upper left from there.

On Wednesday, February 27, We Celebrate…

Cherry Blossom Festival (Hawaii)
LAKA

Themes: Tradition; Heritage; Weather; Arts

Symbols: Lei Flowers; Dance; Yellow

About Laka: Laka is the Hawaiian goddess of Hula, through which the myths, legends, and histories of the Hawaiian people are kept intact. Today she charges us with the sacred duty of collecting the treasures of our personal legacies and recording them for sharing with future generations.

In stories, Laka is the sister of Pele (the volcano goddess) and a nature goddess who can be invoked for rain. Artistic renditions show her wearing yellow garments, bedecked with flowers, and always dancing.

To Do Today: The cherry blossoms of this festival in Hawaii are spiritual, not real, symbolizing the power of tradition among the predominantly Japanese community. On this day people gather together and honor their heritage by participating in martial arts, Japanese dances, weaving, and arts competitions. So, if there’s any art or craft you learned from an elder in your family, take the time to display that craft or work on it today to commemorate Laka’s attributes.

If possible, get together with members of your family and begin creating a family journal that will record all the important events in your lives. Cover the journal with yellow paper dabbed with fragrant oil to invoke Laka’s tending care on the sacred documents.

Wednesday: On the way to the afterlife

The fourth day of the week is named after Odin (Wodan or Woden). In Anglo-Saxon world, Woden is not necessarily the mirror of the Norse Odin. Up to the seventh century, he was worshipped as the main deity. He was the psychopomp which is a word for someone who helps deliver human souls to the afterlife.

In Romance languages, the name of the day comes from Latin Dies Mercurii (miércoles in Spanish, mercoledi in Italian, mercredi in French), associated with Mercury, the Roman god of trade, profit and commerce.

In German, the word for Wednesday is simply Mittwoch, meaning the middle of the week

Power Hours: Sunrise and the 8th, 16th, and 24th hours following

Keywords: Success, creativity, communication

The word Wednesday is reminiscent of the Norse wind god Wodin, which is referenced in the popular rhyme verse “Wednesday’s child is full of woe.” This does not mean that those born on this day are full of sorrow or trouble. To be full of Wo (Wodin) means to be full of wind, to be spirited. Woden was such a powerful pagan god that the German church fathers changed the name of his day to Mittwoch, meaning midweek, in an attempt to exorcise his influence.

In the Spanish word for Wednesday, miercoles, we clearly see its connection to Mercury. Under the guidance of Mercury; Wednesday is a day of swift activity, communication, correspondence, and phone calls. This is a good day for journalists, writers, poets, bargaining, hiring employees, and visiting friends.

On Wednesdays, the hour of sunrise and every eight hours after that are also ruled by Mercury, making these times of the day doubly blessed. These are the strongest four hours for ritual work. Check your local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac to determine when sunrise occurs.

Wednesday’s Witchery

Be bold and daring today! Expand your knowledge of the Craft by working with the planetary energies of Mercury on this multifaceted day of the week. Consider the Greco-Roman gods Mercury and Hermes and all of the many lessons they have for you. Embrace change and movement, and work on your communication techniques. Conjure up a little good luck for yourself with that Mercury dime spell. Call on Athena to inspire you to try magickal arts and crafts and to be more creative in your own spellwork and witchery.

Meditate on Odin and see what you can discover about him. I wonder what sort of fabulous and fascinating magickal wisdom you will uncover? Odin is a shaman, after all; he may appear in many guises and faces. I guarantee that he will make you laugh at yourself before he is through with you, but you will learn. It’s up to you what you do with that knowledge. Will you let it shapeshift into wisdom?

Wednesday is the wild and wily day of the week, so try to go with the flow; don’t fight the quirky energies of the day. Most importantly, follow your heart, and always keep a good sense of humor, because of Wednesdays you will really need it.

The Witches Magick for Wednesday, February 27 – Protection from Psychic Attack

Witches tend to be extra sensitive by nature, and are therefore able to detect negative energies that may be hanging around, whether or not we have any clue as to the source. If you’ve been feeling negatively affected by some kind of outside influence, try wearing or carrying this charm, which combines the protective energies of bay leaf and the number six.

If you can, take a purifying ritual bath to remove any unwanted energies around yourself before working this spell.

You will need:
6 bay leaves
1 black candle
Small drawstring bag

Instructions: Light the black candle and visualize all negativity being sucked up by the flame of the candle and disappearing.

When you sense that your magical space is free of negativity, take a bay leaf in your hand and hold it up.

While drawing a circle around yourself with the leaf, say the following (or similar) words: “From the divine powers of the Earth and Sun,
this leaf is my shield and my protection.”

Place the bay leaf inside the drawstring bag.

Repeat this with each of the remaining leaves.

When all six leaves are in the bag, hold it above your head and visualize the leaves casting a white sphere around you as protection from any harmful energy.

Each day, pin the charm to the inside of your clothing or carry it in your pocket until you feel that protection is no longer needed.

Spirit Message of the Day – Go Play!

BEING CAREFREE
“Whatever our age, there are times when we feel carefree and young. And then, probably all too often, there are times when we don’t. Being carefree and young feels good. Feeling this way fills us with an enthusiasm for life. Responsibilities, obligations, real-life, all these can dull or even squash that feeling. No wonder, since being weighted down with the cares of daily life is the opposite of being carefree. While it is neither wise nor practical to throw away all our cares and responsibilities, it is also unwise (and no fun at all) to let cares and worries erase enthusiasm and simple joy from our lives.”

THE GYPSY ROSE FAIRY
“With the Gypsy Rose card, we see a lovely fairy looking back at us a bit sadly. She is about to cross a threshold to a brighter, more colorful realm. She would like us to follow, but she’s getting the feeling that we won’t. Clothed in white, she expresses a pure desire for all the good things the universe has to offer. Orange roses represent enthusiasm and desire. The orange jewel of her headpiece is attached with many cords, showing that she intentionally weaves enthusiasm and joy through her life. Her colorful wings take her on glorious flights of fancy. The world she is about to enter glows with light even though a crescent moon is high in the sky. Is she looking at the world through rose-colored glasses? Perhaps. Or, perhaps, the rose-colored glasses aren’t meant to change the way the world looks, but to shade out cares and worries so we can see the world at its vibrant best.”

MESSAGE FOR YOU
“Maybe you’ve been working too hard or worrying too much. Now is the time to take a break. Do something that makes your heart leap with excitement. It doesn’t have to be a big leap. Rediscover a lost pleasure, revisit a favorite place, or make plans with a friend. Put away your troubles just for a little while (you can attend to them when you get back), and enjoy life. You may even find that your outlook changes, and things really aren’t as bleak or hard as you thought. In the meantime, indulge and enjoy! There is no time for enchantments, oils, candles, or journaling – just go play!”

Good Wednesday Morning To My Precious Family & Friends! May the Goddess Bless You Today & Always!

Thank You #12

Good Wednesday morning to all my dear precious family & friends! Thought I would let you know I didn’t do a Humpty-Dumpty. Oh, you know the fairy tale, “Humpty-Dumpty had a great fall and all the witches in the land, couldn’t put Humpty-Dumpty back again.” Or something like that, never was great at fairy tales, lol! I have had several asked me what happened, my reply, “heck if I know?” Kade and I were walking up the path to the office, everything was fine. It was a little chilly but I didn’t think a thing about it. We walked up to the sidewalk and my foot hit the first paver and that is all I remember. My feet flew in the air, my rump hit the ground and my head hit the concrete border we have down both sides of the walkway. I did knock myself out but I was more concerned for the concrete border (I was afraid I might have cracked  it, lol).

Kade went flying to the back door raising hell. He got their attention, they all came running out of the office. I had blood all over the side of my head, my shoulder, and down the side of my shirt. I looked like I had been in a fight with a bobcat and lost big time. Well they all panicked when they saw me and immediately called an ambulance. By this time, the ambulance company ought to have our address memorized by now. The ambulance showed up and I was in and out of it. Really didn’t want to take an ambulance ride. I just wanted to just lay on the ground because my head was killing me. The attendants raised my head up and of course, I hollered. When I hollered, they thought I might have broke my neck also. They found the gash and of course, it needed stitches. So off we go,, They wrapped a bandage around my head and put my neck in some kind of gadget that looked like a space ship had landed on my shoulders.

It seemed it took forever to get to the hospital, the sirens blasting like to have killed my head. It never seems to fail, when you are in pain, it feels like that every bump they hit sends pain shooting all over your body and I don’t think they missed a one.. When we actually managed to make it to a bed, the doctor cane in  He cleaned up my head and found the gash in my head. It is about the size of your index finger. They put in 6 staples and they forgot to deaden the area, medieval torture, I tell you. They finished the staples, checked my scans and decided I hadn’t broke my neck or done any permanent damage to the old brain there. But they wanted to keep me over night for observation. Since i have had my fill of hospitals, I decided I had enough of hospital and came home. They weren’t going to do anything anyway besides give me pain pills and I can do that here.

My head is a sore but the headache is gone. I appreciate all the prayers, blessings & warm thoughts you sent me for a speedy recovery. Thank you again.

Love ya,

Lady of the Abyss

Astronomy Picture of the Day – Dragon Aurora over Iceland

Explanation: Have you ever seen a dragon in the sky? Although real flying dragons don’t exist, a huge dragon-shaped aurora developed in the sky over Iceland earlier this month. The aurora was caused by a hole in the Sun’s corona that expelled charged particles into a solar wind that followed a changing interplanetary magnetic field to Earth’s magnetosphere. As some of those particles then struck Earth’s atmosphere, they excited atoms which subsequently emitted light: aurora. This iconic display was so enthralling that the photographer’s mother ran out to see it and was captured in the foreground. No sunspots have appeared on the Sun so far in February, making the multiple days of picturesque auroral activity this month somewhat surprising.

Spectacular moon, 3 planets, before dawn

Spectacular moon, 3 planets, before dawn

Are you a morning person? If so, and you’re blessed with clear skies, the next several mornings are for you. Just look east, the direction of sunrise. You’ll find the moon sliding by three bright morning planets.

On the morning of February 27, 2019, the waning crescent moon closely couples up with the brilliant planet Jupiter as viewed from North America. Elsewhere around the world, the moon is not as close. From the world’s Eastern Hemisphere – Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand – the moon shines to the west of Jupiter on February 27. For all of us, Jupiter and our companion moon will appear very bright and close enough to make waking up early more than worthwhile.

The lighted side of a waning crescent moon points east, the direction of sunrise. The planets Saturn and Venus lie to the east of Jupiter, so the lit face of the moon will point toward the other two planets on the morning of February 27. Notice that the planets and moon make a line on our sky’s dome. This line shows you the whereabouts of the ecliptic, or Earth-sun plane. Since the other planets in our solar system – and the moon – all orbit more or less in this same plane, we always see them strung across our sky in this graceful line.

Each morning – in the hour before sunrise – you’ll see the moon farther east relative to this lineup of planets. Watch for the moon to pass Saturn and then Venus, as it makes its way toward the sunrise.

From various parts of Earth, the planets and moon will appear oriented differently in your sky. No matter where you live, though, fainter Saturn will lie between much-brighter Venus and Jupiter. Saturn, by the way, shines as brilliantly as a 1st-magnitude star. Jupiter outshines Saturn by about 11 times. And Venus outshines Jupiter by nearly eight times!

All are bright. If your sky is clear, you’ll be able to see all three planets with the greatest of ease.

After the moon drops out of the morning sky in early March, you can continue to find Saturn in between Venus and Jupiter for several months to come. Day by day, however, Jupiter and Saturn will drift farther west of Venus (opposite the sunrise direction) in the morning sky.

By the way, when we see the moon as a thin crescent in our sky, someone on the moon would see Earth as almost totally full. The sunlight reflected from the nearly full Earth onto the dark side of the moon is called earthshine. Look for its ghostly luminescence on the nighttime side of the moon in the mornings ahead.

Bottom line: A beautiful scene awaits you in the early morning sky. It’s a golden opportunity to see the moon sweep past 3 glorious planets: Jupiter, Saturn and Venus.

Uses for Tarot Cards

Uses for Tarot Cards

What can you use tarot cards other than readings and telling fortunes? Lots of things as it happens. The cards are much more versatile than you might think. We’re going to explore a range of uses for tarot cards, including creative and spiritual development.

First of why are we able to make tarot do so much? The answer is simple: tarot reflects the whole of human life, from birth to death, from good to bad, from satisfying and fulfilling to challenging and traumatic, from the trials of everyday life to divine spiritual lessons. There’s nothing you can think of that you couldn’t connect to a tarot card or combination of cards. It’s the original game of life.

The cards themselves are just that—cards. There’s nothing intrinsically special about them. However, the images they carry are conduits to our subconscious. Those images, and the symbolism within, connect memories, impressions, mysteries, psychic awareness and intuition.

Tarot for Creativity

Whenever you are in need of inspiration, whether it is creating art, music, writing or anything else that requires free-flowing ideas, turn to your cards. Ask some questions to get the creative juices flowing. You can be as specific as you like by asking about your current project or you can ask tarot to point you in a new direction. Pick a random card or two, or flick through the deck until an image leaps out at you.  Here are some examples:

  • What do I want to create?
  • What’s the next plot point in this story?
  • What is this character thinking?
  • What does the figure in this card say about art?
  • Is there an aspect of my creativity I am neglecting?
  • Is there anything I should do to develop my creativity?
What practical step can I take to kick-start new ideas?
  • How do I connect with this work emotionally?
  • What if I were to create my own version of this card?
  • How would this card express itself in music?
  • And so on… think about your creative crossroads and make up your own pertinent questions.

Shuffle and turn cards as you wish. Don’t worry about traditional meanings. Pay attention to the figures in the illustrations. How do they look? What are they doing? What could they be saying to you? Look at the colors, numbers and any details that catch your eye. Write down any ideas that come to mind. Try doing some free-writing (writing without thinking about the actual process of writing—let it flow) using the card as a prompt. Let the words come out and see where it takes you.

Using Tarot to Manifest Your Desires

My favorite way to use tarot to manifest things I want and events I’d like to happen is a tarot vision board. You can do this by simply choosing a few cards to represent your wish. Focus on them, perhaps light a candle or meditate on them. It’s a good idea to place a small crystal on each and leave them where you can see them.

If you wish to make it more complex, then get an actual board or large piece of card. Find and cut out magazine images, words, and/or do your own drawings. Make the board as beautiful and inspirational as you can. Leave some gaps. Choose some appropriate cards and place them in the spaces you left. You’ll have to keep this vision board flat, unless you photocopy the cards and stick the copies to the board.

This technique worked really well when my partner and I were looking for a new house 17 years ago. We got everything I put on the board. And we’re still here.

Self-understanding with Tarot

Understanding where you are in your life path, your emotions and actions, is tarot’s forte. You can approach this as a normal reading, like this:

Shuffle your deck and lay out five cards in a row:

  • What are my hidden motivations? Don’t flinch. Be prepared for anything and have the courage to explore what the card has to say to you.
  • What are my best qualities? Take all the positive aspects of the card and make a list. See how they apply to you.
  • How am I deceiving myself? If the card doesn’t give you a clear answer, use it as a focus for meditation. Put the card to one side and, when you have time, do a meditation to see what is revealed.
  • What life lesson is facing me? This may involve an in-depth exploration of the card. Research it and find out all you can.
  • Guidance for moving forward: what do I need to accept, or what actions should I be taking?

Spiritual Development

Tarot is perfect for learning and understanding those tricky life lessons that are thrown at us. Those challenges, however they manifest, are all opportunities to assimilate a spiritual lesson. Whether it be falling out with a friend or having a fight with your partner. Select cards that best represent the situation and explore their messages, from where you are right now, to where this might take you. Try to look for the positives and ways to bring courage and forgiveness to the situation. Then draw a single random card for onward guidance.

Developing Intuition

A fun way of developing your intuition is to draw random cards for any situations: real, fiction, drama, TV news, celeb gossip, etc. Then, putting aside what you know about the card intellectually, make up a completely new interpretation for the situation you’re reading about. Then see how it develops and unfolds to see if you were right. Start with single cards then work up to short spreads, maximum of five cards.

Meditation

Tarot is renowned for being a helper in meditation:

  • Choose a card or pull one at random.
  • Sit still. Bring yourself to a state of relaxation using whatever technique works best for you. I find imagining myself slowly descending down levels of color helps. I visualize traveling down a moving staircase, going through the colors of the rainbow in this order: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and finally at the lowest level, violet. Allow the colors to glow and envelop you in their energy.
  • Walk through a doorway and along a beautiful path. Enjoy the physical sensations of smell, touch, sight as you walk. Eventually you come to a clearing where you meet your tarot card. This might display as a huge card, or the figure/s in the card.
  • Ask the card/figure to give you the best advice it possibly can in this moment. Listen to the answer. Ask any other questions that occur to you. After a little while, you’ll feel that you are being pulled back to full consciousness. Gently allow the vision to fade. When you are ready, write down what you can remember.

Working with the Elements

Tarot is the best tool for gaining an understanding of the spiritual elements of Fire, Water, Air and Earth. Examining how the suits progress; advancing or decaying with the increase in the energy of their elements is fundamental to a good grasp of tarot, and of life. Practice associating real life events to a tarot card, whether Major or Minor. This is fun thing to do, and pretty soon, you will have an ‘inner deck’ firmly ensconced in your mind.

Don’t let your deck sit on a shelf, give it some work to do. See if you can discover other uses for tarot cards.
