The Witches Magick for the 1st Day of the Mead Moon – Mead Moon Ritual

Moon & Witch Comments & Graphics
Mead Moon Ritual

Also known as the Lover’s or Honey Moon, the Mead Moon is the time when the flowers are blooming and the honey is brewing. One of the earliest alcoholic beverages, mead is made from fermenting honey. The word mead derives from amethyst, a stone long said to have the power to inhibit intoxication. This Mead Moon ritual is about bringing enchantment, health, rebirth, success, and strength into your life.
You will need fresh flowers, a piece of amethyst, your beloved, and two glasses of mead (or vanilla tea with a teaspoon of honey for a non-alcoholic substitute).

After dark, draw a circle of light and call in the elements. Place the fresh flowers on the altar as a gift to the Goddess:

Divine Lady of the flowers
Every night your blossoms
brighten my life.

Using your breath, clear the amethyst of any energy, then program it with sensations of divine love in a meadow of perfect peace. Place the amethyst on the altar in front of the flowers while saying:

Goddess and God of the Mead Moon
I give to you the stone of sacred love

You and your beloved each take one of the glasses of mead, and begin toasting to all the Goddesses and Gods for their help in making life good this year. Finish by toasting your beloved and the sacredness of the relationship that you have together. Celebrate the fullness of the Mead Moon with a night of lovemaking. In the morning, bid farewell to the elements and pull up the circle.

Hay Season and Naga Panchami

Happiness is not a reward – it is a consequence.
Suffering is not a punishment – it is a result.

-Ralph Ingersoll

For the agricultural communities, this is the beginning of hay season. Spells for continued fair weather are needed to dry out the hay and maturing growing corn.

If the first of July it be rainy weather,
‘Twil rain, more or less, for four weeks together.
-Charles Kightly, Perpetual Almanack of Folklore

In Nepal, this is the festival of Naga Panchami, devoted to the Snake-Gods called Nagas. Early on, people lined the streets for the elaborate parades featuring live serpents and flamboyantly costumed participants. Sacred snake images are adorned with flower garlands and displayed on religious altars. As the sun sets, offerings are made at snake holes for the continued fertility of the people and the land.

The serpent has long been a phallic symbol of the procreative male force. Living beneath the earth, it possesses knowledge of the Underworld and the mystical powers of transformation. In many cultures, it is a symbol of death and destruction as well as resurrection. The serpent also represents the Kundalini force, the potential of light and darkness, and serves as a guardian of thresholds and temples-the protector of esoteric knowledge.

When the Full Moon Falls On Wednesday

Moon & Witch Comments & GraphicsWhen the Full Moon Falls On Wednesday

For this Wednesday night esbat, we are working magick with the Norse god Odin. Odin is a trickster god and in his search for wisdom he gained deep magickal knowledge This spell also works with the images of the tarot card the Hanged Man. This illustrated card has many links to the god Odin, as Odin hung on the tree for nine days to gather wisdom and was eventually rewarded with the runes.

The Hanged Man card tells you to look at things from a new perspective. It speaks of a time of a transitional period, astral travel, and meditation. If you look carefully at the Hanged Man card, you will see that while the fellow is hanging upside down from his foot, he looks pretty peaceful about the whole situation. This card symbolizes letting go of that which no longer serves your highest good. This card’s image illustrates the quiet search for inner wisdom and knowledge and the gaining of a new perspective on your current situation. Wednesdays are all about movement, communication, and change, so let’s take this energy and put it to good use. Combining this with the light and influence of the full moon only sweetens the deal and turns up the power of the witchery.

About the Month of July

Moon & Witch Comments & Graphics

About the Month of July

Until 44 B.C. this month was called Quintilis; it was renamed in honor of the murdered Julius Caesar, who had been born on the 12th. In 46 B.C.E. the previous Roman calendar dar was reorganized with the help of Alexandrian sages to form the new Julian calendar. After a year of chaos and confusion created by the change, the Julian calendar remained the main calendar in the West for the next 1,600 years, when it was replaced by the Gregorian calendar.

This middle-of-the-Summer month is a time of sudden storms and hay-making and is associated with the hot and sultry try “dog-days,” when the Sirius-Canciula (the Dog-Star) rises with the sun, often associated with the Goddess Demeter.

July is a fun-filled month with church fetes, family gatherings, ings, smoky barbecues, and celebrations that include St. Mary Magdalen, patroness of prostitutes; Saint Anne, mother of the Virgin Mary and the patroness of housewives; and St. Wilgefortis, who supposedly sprouted an immense beard overnight night to rid herself of suitors chosen by her father. Magickally, July is a time of personal growth, learning new ways to be creative, and cultivating friendships.

The Full Moon

Moon & Witch Comments & Graphics
The Full Moon

About 15 days after the New Moon, the Full Moon first appears. At this point the Moon is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun, so she rises around sunset and sets around dawn.

The Sun shines full on her face and tides are at their extremes again. Some may sense the pull of the Sun from one direction, and the moon from the opposite, and their energy will feel a bit scattered.

Hold a party of an event, but be aware that the energy level is likely to be high and anything troublesome is likely to surface. Cook and stock up the freezer. Pay special attention to your creative ventures and your dreams.

This is a good time to try out forms of divination such as scrying or tarot. Reflect about your goals, feelings and matters that have to do with relationship and family. It is also good for transformations, psychic abilities, strength, love, power, and fertility.

The Full Moon is an excellent time to cleanse, purify and charge your crystals. Lay them out so that the moonlight can hit them; if you can do so safely, leave them outside. If not, find a windowsill that catches the moonlight. Don’t just stop at crystals though, your magical tools will also benefit from soaking up the power of the moonlight.

As the Full Moon just passes, the time arrives to put the finishing touches on what you have been doing and to get ready for the quieter time to come. Enjoy beauty and art, listen to music. If you have argued with someone but do not feel the issues are really vital, make up now.

If you live near the sea the Full Moon is a wonderful time to visit the shoreline and build a small fire. Collect small pieces of driftwood to build your fire and as you lay each piece onto the fire add a wish.

Once the fire is burning nicely, cast offerings into the flames as gifts to the Moon Goddess, such as herbs, flowers and leaves. Sit and watch as the fire burns. If you don’t live near the sea you could turn this into a visualization for a Full Moon meditation.

Wednesday Is Ruled By Mercury

Moon & Witch Comments & GraphicsWednesday Is Ruled By Mercury

Wednesdays are wild and wacky days. They are for communication, change, cunning, and the arts. This is a Mercury day, and just its patron god this day is full of contradictions, change, and excitement. Some suggestions for Wednesday enchantments would include:

Pulling a little Wednesday color magic into your life by wearing purples or orange

Carrying a multipurpose agate with you and tapping into its various charms

Working with magical plants such as the fern for protection. This plant will also boost the power of any other magical plants with which it is arranged.

Incorporating lavender into charms and spells for transformation

Using the charming scent of lily of the valley to improve your memory, or working with the aspen tree for communication

Calling on Athena, patron of arts and crafts, for inspiration for a new project

Fanning out a Tarot spell to increase you creativity

Calling on Hermes on a Wednesday night to bring movement and good luck into your life

Seasons of the Witch – Legends and Lore, Ancient Holidays And Some Not So Ancient!

Today Is …

July 1

July was named after the great leader Julius Caesar, who was born in this summer month. Because the warm weather continues, activity levels are high, even though the days are beginning to shorten. Consequently, numerous festivals during this month focus on family, friends, and social interaction.

For magical purposes, July directs our attention to personal growth and improvements. This includes increasing your knowledge, continuing efforts for prosperity, creating new ideas and works of art, and also taking time out periodically to really enjoy yourself. Our society sometimes mistakes much-needed leisure time for laziness, but this month’s energies know better. Go and have fun, carrying the Goddess with you for a little extra energy.

The energy of July builds on the clarity of June. As we become more aware both of the creative fire within ourselves, and of the promptings toward greater awareness that come both from the Archangels and our personal guardian angels, we become more attuned to the pulse of the Universe and our own part in bringing about heaven on earth, the awakening of all beings to our true potential as co-creators with each other and the Divine One.

Celebrate your ability to be a part of Goddess religion. Light a candle on your altar for the religious freedom of Women everywhere.

The month of July opens in Nepal with the Naga Panchami festival, which is devoted to the Snake-Gods called Nagas. Sacred snake images are displayed on religious altars, offerings are made at snake holes, and parades featuring live serpents fill the main streets of many villages.

In Japan, this day is sacred to Fuji, the ancient Japanese Goddess of Fire. Fuji is also regarded as the grandmother of Japan, and on this special day (which also marks the start of Mount Fuji Climbing Season) she is honored with prayers and burnt offerings.

Legends and Lore for July

July, the seventh month of the current Gregorian calendar and the second month of Summer’s rule, derives its name from Julius (Julius Caesar).

The traditional birthstone amulet of July is the ruby; and the larkspur and the water lily are the month’s traditional flowers.

July is shared by the astrological signs of Cancer the Crab and Leo the Lion, and is sacred to the following Pagan deities: Apt (or Apet), Athena, Sothis, Spider Woman, and Rosea.

Japan: Fuji, the ancient Goddess of Fire and the Grandmother of Japan, is honored with prayers and burnt offerings.

Nepal: Naga Panchami – festival devoted to the Snake-Gods called Nagas. Snake images are displayed on altars, offerings made at snake holds, and parades with live serpents crowd the main streets in many villages.

1975: Day endangered species became internationally protected; a day to celebrate all the world’s creatures. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora was signed/adopted on 3/3/1973, but wasn’t enforced 7/1/1975

July 1 – Founder’s Day – Lynnie Levy and Jade River have birthdays one day apart. (Although Lynnie is several year older than Jade) Lynnie’s birthday is July 1st and Jade’s is July 2nd. Celebrate your ability to be a part of Goddess religion. Light a candle on your altar for the religious freedom of women everywhere.

NOTE: Because of the large number of ancient calendars, many in simultaneous use, as well as different ways of computing holy days (marked by the annual inundation, the solar year, the lunar month, the rising of key stars, and other celestial and terrestrial events), you may find these holy days celebrated a few days earlier or later at your local temple.

Tasha’s Astro Planner for July 2015

Moon & Witch Comments & GraphicsTasha’s Astro Planner for July 2015

July begins with a Full Moon and ends with one too. This is a month with a lot of impact, so it seems fitting that it will begin and end that way. Adding to the Full Moon on July 1 there is an early AM conjunction of Jupiter and Venus, making for a day with great potential for pleasure and gratification. Later that day Sun trine Neptune provides potential spiritual uplift and for those who can listen, a chance to hear some heavenly music.

Full Moon in Capricorn on the 1st implies some kind of a boost or growth for business and/or politics. Expect some interesting announcements. The New Moon in Cancer on the 15th Is a good time to begin projects for the home, possibly involving food preservation, or to initiate family get-togethers or other gatherings in the home. The second full Moon of this month is on the 31st, in Aquarius. This is an altruistic Moon, experiences or opportunities involving helping humanity can be planned for or expected.

July 15, the day of the New Moon in Cancer there are two Pluto oppositions involving Mars and Mercury. If possible avoid travel that day. Use the available energy to dig through and discard or transform possessions you no longer need or want. Make elimination and change a choice. The Sun Pluto opposition of the 6th is another day for putting your sense of discrimination to work. On the 18th be very mindful if using tools or traveling. Accidents can happen. The 24th, 25th and 26th are very powerful days. Plan to do something strenuous in a unique or unusual fashion, perhaps involving or creating a breakthrough.

The 21st, 22nd and 23rd are excellent days to make progress with organization and structure. It will be easy to think clearly and speak directly to any issue. The month of July holds many days that will be useful for eliminating, organizing, restructuring and moving forward with what needs to be done. Make plans and discuss, however hold off on beginning any big projects. Mercury moves through three signs this month, Venus enters Virgo and then goes retrograde on the 25th, choices may be rethought or reconsidered then.

Mars stays in Cancer all month, Real Estate may boom, there could be stomach illnesses in the news. Jupiter continues in Leo. The theater may benefit as well as children or things involving them. Saturn continues retrograde in Scorpio, making for chances to go back over any structure, whether physical or other, to make sure it is solid. Uranus turns Retrograde on the 26th, a day of high impact. What is important is to use the available energies in the best way possible. Check my website at www.heartwingslovenotes.com for my day by day planner which can also be found on Granny Moon’s Morning Feast. The stars are there to guide us, not afflict us. Let us be grateful and use their guidance well.

What A Glorious Day, Our Lady Moon Shines Her Blessings Down On Us This Eve!

Days of the Week Comments=Moon Rise

As the moon so bright and full rises in the sky
we look upwards to see our Mother
As the wild ground phlox bloom to its glorious pink
we look to see our Mother.
As the birds return and their voices fill the wind
we look to see our Mother.

The burrows are empty and the animals roam the woods,
our Mother is there.
The caves are empty as the bears roam the forest,
our Mother is there.
The wolf has emerged and she takes her place on the ridge
howling towards the wind, our Mother is there.

We feel drawn to the earth, our Mother calls us.
We feel drawn to the moon, our Mother calls us.
We feel the wind around us, our Mother calls us.

I stand before the moon and face my Mother.
I stand with arms reached out and face my Mother.
I stand humbled before her beauty and face my Mother.

I send the hopes of my family.
I send the prayers of my Sisters and Brothers.
I send peace and love.

May she answer my prayers.
May she answer my hopes.
May she answers my wishes.

Blessings to my Sisters and Brothers.
Blessings to our families.
Blessings to our animals.

All is done.
All is well.

Magickal Goody of the Day for June 30 – Make Your Own Moon Water

Magickal Goody of the Day

witch potion 001Make Your Own Moon Water

Moon water is simple to make and can be used for all sorts of spell work, rituals and anointing. It is useful to have in stock when you need to use the power of the Moon phase at a different time.

Using a dish, bowl or bottle, fill it with spring water and leave it outside (if it can be safely done) or on a windowsill so that it can soak up the power of the Full Moon. You can also do the same process on the New, Waxing, Waning or Dark Moon phases also. Once the water has absorbed the power of the Moon, you can keep it in an air-tight bottle for future use.

You can also add a pinch of sea salt to the water to give it extra cleansing and purifying oomph.

Herb of the Day for June 30th is Valerian

Herb of the Day

Valerian

(Valeriana officinalis)

Medicinal Uses: One of natures most effective herbal tranquilizers. The roots are used for nervous tension, anxiety and insomnia. A powerful root for the nerves, valerian should not be taken for longer than a few weeks, as it can become addictive. It helps cure depression when taken once or twice. It is a good sedative for such conditions as neuralgia, hypochondria, insomnia, and nervous tension. It also appears to have real benefits in cases of sciatica, multiple sclerosis, shingles, and peripheral neuropathy, including numbness, tingling, muscle weakness, and pain in the extremities.

The tea is strengthening to the eyesight, especially when problems are due to weakness in the optic nerve. Valerian has been used as an anticonvulsant in epilepsy. It slightly slows the heart and thus is a good remedy for palpitations. Simmer two teaspoons of the root in a pint of water for twenty minutes, and take one-fourth cup, cold, four times a day. The tincture may be taken twenty drops in water, three times a day.

The root is simmered with licorice, raisins, and anise seeds to make a cough sedative. The scent is very attractive to rats and is used to bait traps. Valerian is a warm and spicy herb that has a stimulating effect on the brain as well as being a sedative. If a person has a hot constitution it will be especially stimulating and may negate the calming and sedative quality. A hot constitution is one that is prone to constipation, dryness, redness in the eyes and skin and a warm body temperature (a cold constitution has the opposite qualities).
Valerian is useful as a digestive aid, is helpful in cases of gas, diarrhea, and cramps, and alleviates the pain of ulcers. In the respiratory tract, it is believed to be of benefit in reducing the discomfort of asthma attacks. Valerian is used for irritability, mild spasmodic affections, epilepsy, migraine headaches, croup, hysteria, vertigo, nervous cough, delirium, neuralgia, muscle cramps, colic, panic attacks, emotional stress, PMS, menstrual cramps, despondency, insomnia. A marvelous remedy for fevers. Will often clear a cold overnight. Good for expelling phlegm from throat and chest. Will expel worms when everything else fails. Excellent for shortness of breath and wheezing. Tea can be used as an enema for pinworms and tape worms and externally as a wash for sores, wounds, chronic skin diseases, and pimples. Combines with with lemon balm, hops, passion flower and scullcap.

Valerian produces depression when taken over a longer period. Valerian is best suited to individuals with cold, nervous conditions. Those with heated conditions can experience opposite (stimulant) effects. Valerian may increase the effects of anti-anxiety medications or painkillers. It may also react with antiepileptic drugs. Valerian is contraindicated in pregnant and breast feeding women.

Magickal uses: Powdered valerian may be used as a substitute for graveyard dust to repel unwanted presences. Valerian is added to the chalice as an herb of peace. Valerian is a frequent ingredient in love and harmony spells and potions, including spells for sexual love. It is used to aspurge the ritual space and in incense for purification. Even though this is a rather foul smelling herb it is hung in the home as protection from lightning and the Greeks used sprigs of it at windows to keep evil out. For protection from evil and magick, use Valerian in sachets, amulets, or talismans and carry it with you. To prevent unwanted visitors, sprinkle powdered herb on your front stoop and say their name. For eliminating troubles, write the trouble on parchment paper, then burn and mix the ashes with powdered herb, then bury. Sachets placed around the home help protect the home from lightening strikes.

Being an herb of peace, place some in the vicinity of a quarreling couple. Add it to love sachets and it is said if a woman wears a sprig of it, it will cause men to “follow her like children.” It will also help insomnia by placing it in the pillow. A few leaves placed in the shoes protect against colds and flu.
To find out if your love is reciprocated, bend a plant in the direction of their home. If the plant continues to grow in that direction, you are loved in return. Growing the plant on your property ensures harmony with your spouse. Valerian stalks can be dried and soaked in tallow or oil, then used as a torch for spells and rituals. The torch can then be used to light sacred fires. Meditation in the light of a torch improves clarity for a given situation. Valerian is ruled by Venus and its Element is Water.

Properties: Calmative, antispasmodic, nerve tonic, nervine, sedative, anodyne, and carminative, aromatic, emmenagogue. Contains active components are called valepotriates. Valerianic, formic and acetic acids, essential oils, resin, starch, a glucoside, and 2 alkaloids (chatrine and valerianine).

Growth: Valerian is a tall perennial herb found in damp, elevated areas and grasslands. It consists of a long stem (3-5 feet in length) with pointed dark green leaves. It blooms in the summertime, with small, fragrant flowers (white, light purple or pink) that can reach four inches in diameter. A native of damp woods, roadsides, and riversides.

Harvest in the fall. Do not boil the root.

To obtain the maximum benefit take 1 tbsp. of fresh juice daily. The latter is often prescribed as a cure for insomnia, where its great value is that it calms the mind without having a narcotic effect. Non-addictive.

Drying roots is different from drying leaves. Roots should be dried at a high temperature, such as 120 degrees F. until the roots are brittle. If they are rubber-like, they should be dried longer. Store roots after drying to keep free from moisture.

Infusion: steep 1 tsp. root in 1 pt. boiling water. Take cold, 1 cup per day, or when going to bed.

Cold extract: use 2 tsp. roots with 1 cup water; let stand for 24 hours and strain. Take 1/2 to 1 cup when going to bed.

Tincture: take 20 drops on sugar or in water, 3 times a day.
