Cancer New Moon – July 15, 2015 – Crashing Waves

Cancer New Moon – July 15, 2015

Crashing Waves

There’s some striking astrology at the Cancer New Moon (July 15th), that calls for a tidal alert.

Cancer, as you know, is the sign of moods and the Moon itself. Sun and Moon — the Luminaries — are at 23 degrees Cancer.

Shock Waves

All the hot flash planets are on edge, and even dangerously so, with Pluto staring down Mars-Mercury in an exact opposition.

What’s coming to mind is a deluge of all that’s been stuffed down, and that’s felt too intense, even dangerous, to express.

Looking for Pluto’s silver lining, it’s a purging of core, compressed soul contents. The release under these conditions can feel like a devastating tsunami of feelings and raw material.

If you stay with yourself (stay present, alert), and let the feelings and whatever live, it is integrated. And it can be vitalizing, because you’re reclaiming energy (and dimensions of your soul) pure and simple.

Tips: Give yourself space to “Be” without having to smile (when you don’t feel like it) and make small talk. Let anger or just raw energy rise, without rushing to act on it.

Then there’s jolting Uranus (in Aries) in an angle to the Sun-Moon. It’s a very charged New Moon and there could be sudden shocking events. The Mars-Aries burning is one that potentially fires you up to take leaps of faith forward.

See if the tensions inspire growth and action.

Caution: It’s wise to avoid stirred-up crowds and people you know to be volatile.

New Moons are for resting, and keeping a low profile syncs with the atmosphere. Take note of what triggers you, and direct any raw energy that rises to your highest goals.

Jupiter and Venus are still close together in Leo, and in a friendly angle to Uranus (Aries). Choose the noble path of high achievement and dignity, no matter what others are choosing around you.

Wild Card – Human Emotion

It’s all pointing to the wow factor of human emotion saving the day, in the face of enormous demands of the after effects of the Uranus-Pluto square.

The great tidal force (Cancer) is an emotional wild card, for surprises that seem to well up out of nowhere, but are heart-felt. Cancer, like other cardinal signs Aries and Capricorn pushes the action forward, with feelings merging with other kinds of drive (passion and worldly ambition).

A great one to deeply listen to your feelings as messages about what’s in need of change. These messages may be impossible to ignore, and seem to carry a sense of getting a second chance to make things right.

When the Moon is new in Cancer the Sun is also in Cancer.

The New Moon is a time of fresh starts — in this feeling water sign, it’s time to refill the well. Find a refuge where it’s safe to emote, and rest, be renewed.

Intuition pioneer Penney Peirce say that rather than intention, the idea is to charge something with attention. With the New Moon in vivid, motivating cardinal water, your toolbox is complete with the charge of feeling and a vivid imagination.

New Moon in Cancer themes:

security, financial and emotional

the need for nurturing and intimacy

the longing for a home

women and ‘mothering’

homesickness for family life

emotional impressions around motherhood or relationship to Mother

childhood memories and embedded patterns of behavior

the desire to cuddle and know true intimacy

home comforts and feeling safe

imaginative gifts

emotional intelligence

It’s a Good Time to:

Dare to be honest about what you’re feeling.

Share your heart with someone you trust.

Start an artistic project and protect it in its infancy.

Get to the bottom of irrational fears, needless worry, dependencies.

Looking at where you’ve grown too ‘soft’ and childish.

Consider how you self-soothe, and find healthy ways to refill the well.

Look at your emotional roots, and open to deep healing.

Tuesday’s Must Dos

Tuesday’s Must Dos

Tuesday is the day to work any magick that falls in the category of increasing strength, courage, bravery, and passion. All of these intense emotions are linked to this day’s energies, and spells designed around these themes will have extra punch when performed on this magickal day.

So, let’s add a little passion and conviction into your life! Break out the daring red pieces of your wardrobe, and put a little pizzazz into your day. Work with Lilith, and see what she has to teach you about personal power and sexuality. Meditate onTiw/Tyr and Mars, and see what those ancient warrior gods will show you about new tactics, strategies, and claiming personal victories in your life. Practice conjuring up that astral weapon from the meditation and use it wisely for protection and for courage.

Create a philter for courage and protection or handcraft your own Witch’s jar to remove negativity from your home. See what other Witch crafts you can conjure up with Tuesday’s magick. Create some kitchen magick on this Tuesday by whipping up a spicy stew-add in a few Mars-associated ingredients such as carrots, peppers, and garlic. Empower the stew for success, and then treat yourself and your family to a good, hearty meal. Try working with a little aromatherapy and burn some spicy or coffee-scented candles to increase your energy level.

Check the sky at night, and see if you can find the reddish planet Mars up in the heavens. Not sure where to look? Check an astronomy magazine or search the Web for more information. Become a magickal warrior and move forward in your life with strength, courage, and compassion. Embrace the side of yourself that loves a good challenge and that is passionate and daring! Banish fear, and face your future with strength and conviction. Believe in yourself and in your dreams, work hard, and you will win every time.

Tuesday

Tuesday

A god, goddess, or planet governs each day of the week. It is usually easy to spot the ruler of the day by its name. The word Tuesday, however, is not so easy, but if we look at the word in Spanish, Martes, we clearly see its connections to Mars.

Because Tuesday revolves around the energy of Mars, Tuesdays are good for business, mechanical things, buying and selling animals, hunting, beginning studies, gardening, sexual activities, and confrontation. This is a day for sex magick, energy, stamina, and health. As in the old saying, Tuesdays child is full of grace, is also good for success magick and defense against enemies.

Angels of Tuesday are Camael, Samael, Satael, Amabiel, Friagne, and Hyniel. When invoked, Camael takes the form of a leopard. In Druid mythology he is a god of war, which is why we see him associated with Mars. Camael is said to be a member of the “Magnificent Seven” in some circles. Camael is another “terminator” angel.

Samael walks both worlds as a magician and sorcerer. some see him as the angel of death, others as “the bright and poisonous one.” Many consider him more of a demon, and accuse him of being Satan. However, there is reference to the satans (plural) as enforcers of the law, a sort of angelic police, if you will. Supposedly, when Samael is around, dogs howl in the night. On one hand, he is the ruler of the fifth heaven and in charge of two million angels; on the other, he is the one who changed into a serpent and convinced Eve to partake of the forbidden fruit of knowledge.

Satael is an angel of air invoked in magic rites and is the presiding spirit of the planet Mars. Amabiel is another spirit of the planet Mars; however he spends his energy on issues of human sexuality. Friagne, also an angel of this day, is invoked from the east. He is a member of the fifth heaven. Hyniel also belongs to this day and is subject to the east wind.

On Tuesdays the hour of sunrise and every eight hours after that are also ruled by Mars, and that makes these times of the day doubly blessed. These four hours are the strongest ones to do ritual in. Check your local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac to determine your local sunrise.

A Very Happy & Blessed Tuesday Morn’ To All Our Precious Family & Friends!

Witches

As the sun sets
The moon rises.
We are called.
Gathering deep in the forest
Our capes flap in the wind.
Hoods covering our head
As we form our circle
Hand in hand we take our places.
The elements are called forth:
Wind, rain, earth and fire.
We are filled with their energy.
In a low chant
We call for our Mother.
The Goddess answers our call,
She stands before us,
Center in our circle.
We lower our heads to her grace.
Our circle is filled with her love.
Energy flows from her to us.
Slowly we rise;
Our feet no longer touch the
ground.
Wind rips through the trees.
Flames raise high from the fire.
Rain beats on the earth below
Yet, we remain dry.
Power transfers from Sister to
Sister.
The Goddess’s influence is felt.
Sounds from the forest fill the air.
All is alive.
Energy fills all there,
We know who we are,
The Witches of the present.
Those long past have joined us.
We know our beginning.
We know our past.
We know our future,
Witches now and forever.

A Witch’s Prayerbook

Now, I am going to see if I can add something to yesterday’s posts

If you will remember Mystie posted some recipes for magick lamps. Unfortunately she forgot to put the recipe for some of the oils needed to make these lamps. I am going to see if I can track down the oil recipes and add them to those recipes. I know we have had several requests for these formulas, so we are going to do our best to find them.

After that, we will be off and running for the day. I hope everyone has a very beautiful day and please stay cool! Till tomorrow…..

Luv & Hugs,

Herb of the Day for July 13th is Fennel

Herb of the Day

Fennel

Medicinal Uses: Fennel is one of nine Anglo-Saxon herbs known for secret powers. In ancient days, a bunch of fennel hung over a cottage door on Midsummer’s Eve was said to prevent the effects of witchcraft. Try nibbling on the herb’s seeds, as Roman women did centuries ago, to help depress the appetite. Women in Roman times believed fennel prevented obesity.
Fennel is considered one of the oldest medicinal plants and culinary herbs. It is fairly certain that fennel was in use over 4000 years ago. It is mentioned in the famous Ebers Papyrus, an ancient Egyptian collection of medical writings made around 1500 BC. There it is referred to principally as a remedy for flatulence. Later authors of herbals, such as Pliny (AD 23-79), also describe fennel primarily as an aid to digestion. In the Middle Ages, it was praised for coughs. Fennel helps to take away the appetite. It is often used as a sedative for small children. It improves digestion, and is very helpful with coughs. It is also used for cancer patients after radiation and chemotherapy treatments.

Enriches and increases the flow of milk for lactating women. To help with indigestion and gas, pour boiling water over crushed seeds (one teaspoon seed to a pint of water). The seeds are simmered in syrups for coughs, shortness of breath, and wheezing. Place fennel inside a fish when you cook it to make it more digestible. The leaves and seeds when boiled with barley increase breast milk. The seeds and root help clean the liver, spleen, gallbladder, and blood. The tea and broth of this herb are said to help in weight loss.

It is eaten in salads, soups, and breads. The oil mixed with honey can be taken for coughs, and the tea used as a gargle. The oil is eaten with honey to allay gas and it is applied externally to rheumatic swellings. The seeds are boiled to make an eye wash: use one-half teaspoon of seed per cup of water, three times a day, and be sure to strain carefully before use. Powdered seeds repel fleas from pets’ sleeping areas.

Magickal uses: In several ancient civilizations fennel was used as an antidote for snakebite. The thyrsus, which were prominent in Dionysian ceremonies, was often made of giant fennel stalks with pine cones attached at the ends.

Use for scenting soaps and perfumes to ward off negativity and evil. Grow near the home for the same purpose. Hang it around the doors and windows at Midsummer to repel evil spirits. Carry the seeds to ward off evil and to influence others to trust your words. To prevent wood ticks from biting your legs, wear a piece in your left shoe. Use in purification and healing sachets and spells.

Properties: Stomachic, carminative (relieves gas), pectoral (relieves chest congestion and cough), diuretic, aromatic, antispasmodic, expectorant, mild expectorant, anti-inflammatory, stimulant. Contains anethole, calcium, camphene, cymene, chlorine, dipentene, fenchone, 7-hydrozycoumaarin, volatile oils, oleic acid, petroselinic acid, phellandrene, pinene, limonene, stigmasterol, sulfur, and vitamins A and C.

Growth: Fennel prefers dry, sunny areas. It is a perennial that can reach 4 – 6 feet high, and grows in most average to poor soils. A tall herb of the umbel family, with feathery leaves and yellow flowers. A stout, strongly scented perennial plant, with erect stems and blue-green leaves. The striated stems are solid when young, becoming hollow with age. The yellow flowers grow in compound, terminal umbels, each with 10-30 stalks. Aniseed-scented, egg-shaped fruits follow the flowers. Flowers appear July to October. Needs full sun; partial shade in warm climates. Zones 6-9. Found growing as a weed in waste places in much of the United States, in southeastern Canada and in southern British Columbia. Native to Mediterranean Europe where it is found growing wild.

Gather the root in the spring for medicinal purposes:

Infusion: steep 1 tbsp. freshly crushed seeds in 1 cup water for 5 minutes. Sweeten with honey to taste.

Decoction: boil 1/2 tsp. seed in water. Strain. Use as an eye-wash, 3 times per day.

Extract: mix 10 to 20 drops in water. Use warm water and 1 tsp. honey for a soothing drink daily.

Milk decoction: boil 1 tsp. seed in 1/2 cup milk for 5 to 10 minutes. Take for colic.

Tincture: take 10 to 30 drops in water, as required.

Fennel-honey: add 1 to 3 drops fennel oil to 1 tbsp. honey and mix. Take a teaspoon at a time. A natural cough remedy.

Deity of the Day for July 13 is Baldur, Norse God of Light

Deity of the Day

Baldur, Norse God of Light

Baldur was the son of Frigga and Odin, and the twin brother of Hod, or Hodur. Baldur’s name sometimes appears as Balder, or alternately Baldr. Baldur was beautiful and radiant, and was beloved by all the gods. Hodur, on the other hand, was dark and moody, spent a lot of time in darkness because of his blindness, and was generally unpopular with everyone he met.

In one famous story, after Baldur reveals that he’s been having foreboding dreams, Frigga asked all of nature to promise not to cause any harm to her beloved son.
From Sæmund’s Edda:
“On a course they resolved,
that they would send
to every being,
assurance to solicit,
Balder not to harm.
All species swore
oaths to spare him;
Frigg received all
their vows and compacts.”

Unfortunately, in her haste, Frigga overlooked the mistletoe plant, so Loki – the resident trickster – took advantage of the opportunity and fooled Hod into killing his twin brother with a spear made of mistletoe. Baldur was later restored to life.

Because of the story of his life, death and resurrection, Baldur features prominently in Norse mythology. An important festival was held in honor of Baldur the Good at midsummer, because it was known to be the anniversary of his death and descent into the underworld. Celebrations were held involving big bonfires and outdoor festivities, much of which involved watching the sun rise and set. Bear in mind that in the extreme Northern latitudes inhabited by the Norse peoples, the sun never really sets at midsummer; instead, it touches the horizon and then rises again to begin a new day.

When Christianity moved into the Norse countries, Baldur’s celebration became the festival of St. John instead.

Astronomy Picture of the Day – Last Look at Pluto’s Charon Side

Astronomy Picture of the Day

Discover the cosmos! Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer.

2015 July 13

Last Look at Pluto’s Charon Side
Image Credit & Copyright: NASA, Johns Hopkins Univ./APL, Southwest Research Inst.

Explanation: Pluto surface is strange. As the robotic New Horizons barrels toward its closest approach to Pluto and its moons tomorrow, images already coming back show Pluto’s surface to be curiouser and curiouser. The featured image, taken two days ago, shows the side of Pluto that always faces Pluto’s largest moon Charon. Particularly noteworthy is the dark belt near the bottom that circles Pluto’s equator. It is currently unclear whether regions in this dark belt are mountainous or flat, why boundaries are so sharply defined, and why the light regions seem to be nearly evenly spaced. As New Horizons will be flying past the other side of Pluto, this should be the best image of this distant landscape that humanity sees for a long time. Assuming the robotic spacecraft operates as hoped, images taken of the other side of Pluto, taken near closest approach, will be about 300 times more detailed.

Daily Planet Tracker for July 13: Mercury In Cancer, Now Until July 23

Planet Tracker

Mercury in Cancer

Now Until Jul 23, 2015

Mercury is associated with intellect and Cancer with feelings. This combination offers us an opportunity to perceive and communicate our emotions more directly at this time. Conversation is likely to be more personal than usual, with a greater capacity for intimacy. However, objectivity may suffer as awareness is filtered through the powerful issues of security, family and safety.

Every astrological pattern offers its challenges and opportunities. In fact, they are really two faces of the same thing. In this case, the challenge is to articulate emotions without being overcome by them. The opportunity is to soften the separating aspects of the logical mind to connect with others in a more personal fashion.

Cancer is a water sign. The mysteries of water can not be spoken, only felt. Mercury’s passage here does not erase the rational aspects of perception, but it broadens them to include information that can not be put into words. Know that silence can be full of meaning. This time is a reminder that real listening is done with the heart, as well as with the ears.

Mercury in Cancer shows up in the charts of conservatives like Nancy Reagan, Bob Dole and Pat Boone. Prince Charles, a watery Scorpio, has met this placement with both Princess Diana and Camilla Parker Bowles.

David Duchovny and Isabella Rossellini speak with Mercury in Cancer soulfulness, as do storytellers Bill Cosby and Arlo Guthrie. Cat Stevens’ Mercury in Cancer helped lead him to Islam, while Salman Rushdie’s has led him away.

Cancer adores tradition, the home and the garden. So, it’s not surprising that food, style and do-it-yourself goddess Martha Stewart was also born with Mercury in this sign.

General Description:
This curiously shaped charm, a pre-Christian cross, has been universally popular in all countries and throughout all ages. These symbols have been found in North and South America, India and China, where they were used as religious emblems at least ten centuries B.C. and are met with on very old Buddhist coins and inscriptions. The Swastika is also called the Gammadion, from the Greek letter gamma placed together four times.
