Moon Lore

Back to the earliest periods of civilization and the moon features prominently as a force of malice. During the ancient Greek period, Hippocrates, widely considered the founding father of modern medicine, tied the power of the moon to human madness. He wrote, “One who is seized with terror, fright and madness during the night is being visited by the goddess of the moon.” This was something the Romans also invested a lot of faith in. The goddess Luna, was believed to have driven her chariot across the night sky each night, hence the lunar cycles. The influence of Luna was said to inspire madness in non-believers. Her name is where we get the word “lunatic” from. Other Greek and Roman goddesses like Artemis and Selene had ties to the moon and were worshipped as such. They were also prominent goddesses of childbirth, so that connection is partly why you continue to hear legends about full moon-induced labor.

Ancient Solar Folklore:

The Egyptians regarded the sun as a child when it was rising, and as an old man when it was setting in the evening. These ideas were also transferred to the annual motion of the sun. Macrobius states that the Egyptians compared the yearly course of the sun with the phases of human life; thus, a little child signified the winter solstice, a young man the spring equinox, a bearded man the summer solstice, and an old man the autumnal equinox. They also thought that Hercules had his seat in the sun, and that he travelled with it round the moon.

Song of the Witch

Song of the Witch

Will you be of Wicca, tonight?
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Tyme.
Then come with me to the Circle of Light.
Bend the Will; the Wish you shall find.

Take up these herbs and brew up a tea.
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Tyme.
And drink it all down; the gods you shall see.
Bend the Will; the Wish you shall find.

Take up the glass, and look at your face.
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Tyme.
Go into yourself and find a new place.
Bend the Will; the Wish you shall find.

Go to the Woods, and find an Oak tree.
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Tyme.
And cling to it tight, and strong you shall be.
Bend the Will; the Wish you shall find.

Go to the Mountains and call to the Wind.
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Tyme.
And fly through the Air with the Thoughts that you send.
Bend the Will; the Wish you shall find.

Fly to the Sun, and touch its bright Flame.
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Tyme.
Open your Mind; now choose a new Name.
Bend the Will; the Wish you shall find.

Go to the Sea, and call to the Moon.
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Tyme.
Raise up your arms, then sing out Her tune.
Bend the Will; the Wish you shall find.

Now join your hands with Those who surround.
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Tyme.
Now share the Power that we send around.
Bend the Will; the Wish you shall find.

We shall part, but meet again soon.
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Tyme.
To dance, and sing, and Call Down the Moon.
Bend the Will, the Wish you shall find.

When The Cat is Away, The Mice Will Play….

... but know your limits!

And oh does that saying hold true for this bunch around here! Good Sunday morning, my dear brothers & sisters of the Craft! I hope everyone is having a very lovely & peaceful morning so far. As Eleanor announced Friday(I believe), I was suppose to be out of town till Monday, but the best laid plans of mice and men…..hmm, I do believe I have mice on the brains this morning.

As you can see, I am here, not out of town as planned. I received a panicky phone call from Eleanor. “The computers have crashed, the computers have crashed,” she has a very heavy New Orleans accents and you should hear that yelling at you. I told her to shut the darn things down and go home, I would fix the problem when I got back. As I continued to pack, something else came up. The last occurrence took about an hour or two and by that time, I said, “the hell with it, we are staying here.” You ever had one of those days, you plan something then everything in the book happens to get you out of the mood of doing what you had planned? Well that’s what happened to me anyway. I didn’t have anything spectacular planned for the boys and myself. We were just going back to the mountains for a bit. I just wanted to walked through the vast trails and get in touch with my roots again. It is refreshing to go back home but that will have to wait for a bit. Instead, I ended up at the Game Reserve, by myself, just enjoying nature and all the lovely creatures that the Goddess has blessed us with.

Today is a training day for Eleanor and Lynette. They are such lucky little rats, I mean mice. I want to see what they are doing that the computers keep crashing on them. I know Eleanor has mentioned a new part WordPress has added for posting now. I looked at it and frankly I don’t like it much myself either. But I did show her the part that said, “switch back to old version.” Somehow, she missed that, hmm! I was hoping that, just maybe, I could take a day off every once in a while but, I guess that will have to wait. I will just go outside and sit under my gumball tree and be happy. If you are familiar with gumball trees, you know about the little spiky balls they drop. So sitting under a gumball tree really isn’t all that of a pleasant experience if you happen upon one of them. I could go sit under my willow tree but it is about three foot tall now and has a stake beside it to keep it from breaking. As you know, I lost my big willow to a storm several years back. The one growing now is a cutting from the old one. I might look a little goofy trying to sit under it. But, of course, our neighbors are use to some of the goofiness that goes on around here, lol!

Anyway, mini-vacation spoiled, training day for Eleanor and Lynette and with that said, lets get this show on the road…..

Have a very blessed and relaxing Sunday, my sweets,

Lady of the Abyss

Forgot to mention, in case I do ever get to run off for a day or two and the computers crash again. You can always find the Daily Horoscopes, Get a Jump on Tomorrow, Daily Tarot Card and Daily Rune on the store. It takes about 5 minutes to do each morning, if that long. So I try to keep it up-dated each day. Now you know, when the mice start playing around here, you can go and get your horoscopes at Witches of the Craft’s Online Store.

CALL IN THE POWER OF SPRING’S MOST MAGICAL TRANSITS

CALL IN THE POWER OF SPRING’S MOST MAGICAL TRANSITS

Astrological magic had its heyday in the medieval period, when kings and queens ruled the lands. Magic can be seen as metaphorical attempts to gain the favor of the sovereign, and many of the stipulations around when to practice magic are based around the idea of finding the ruler in a good mood, willing and able to help. Planets traversing one of their favorite places, known as dignities, symbolize just such rulers—those who are content in their special place and willing to marshal resources to the aid of those they favor.

DIURNAL SECT IN DIGNITIES

After the sun moves into Aries on March 20, a period begins in which Jupiter, Saturn, and the sun are all in signs of their dignity. These three planets belong to what was called the diurnal sect. This means that they are fundamentally yang, or masculine, in nature, and so are seen to exert their greatest powers in the daytime. Together, these three happy and helpful rulers signify propitious opportunities for bold forceful action (sun in Aries), forward-looking and expansive enterprises (Jupiter in Sagittarius), and structured approaches toward long term objectives (Saturn in Capricorn). Thus, the period from March 20 until April 10—when Jupiter turns retrograde—represents a rare opportunity to combine and harness all three of these magical influences at once. This is especially true on Sunday, April 7 as the sun applies to trine Jupiter and the feminine/nocturnal planets Venus and the moon are also in their dignities, for a total of five out of seven classical planets in signs of their dignity.

VENUS CONJUNCT FOMALHAUT

Another condition for magical activity is when planets are conjunct bright stars. The stars give gifts of power and protection from beyond the spheres of the planets, a sign of eminence. On Friday, March 29 Venus is conjunct Fomalhaut, one of the four stars identified as “royal” by the Persians. Venus is already in Pisces, a sign of her dignity, and Friday also belongs to Venus, so we have three magical conditions converging. Early risers can capture the Venus hour, as well (the first hour after Sunrise always belongs to the planet of the day). All of this Venus magic is conducive to using personal charisma for bringing people and things together in a state of unity, harmony, and spiritual peace. However, since Venus is in a waning phase visually—becoming gradually lower and dimmer—it may be helpful to surrender or give away one gift or blessing in our lives in order to discover another.

MERCURY CONJUNCT SIRIUS

On Wednesday, June 12 we have a conjunction of the star Sirius by the planet Mercury. Sirius is not only the brightest star in the sky but also one of fifteen Behenian stars considered to have special magical powers; Sirius was said to grant favor and also bring peace and accord. Since this is Mercury’s day, we can assume this peace is brokered through communication, negotiation, or exchange. This magic comes just in time and appears to be an opportunity to diffuse the very powerful opposition forming between Mars in Cancer and Saturn in Capricorn, with the moon in Libra offering additional assistance. Seek to broker peace through direct communication, if possible. If not, you can still call on the powers of Sirius and Mercuryfor help. Each of the Behenian stars has an accompanying herb, stone, and image or sigil used to access its powers. For Sirius, the herb is juniper and the stone is beryl. Combine these with the sigils for Sirius and Mercury along with incense and prayers for peace and harmony between powerful opposing forces.

Daily Motivator for March 21: Better and better

Better and better

Each new day is an opportunity to up your game. Each new situation puts you in position to be more thorough and effective at whatever you’re doing.

If you’re not constantly making improvements, you’ll quickly fall behind. It is not a curse, not a burden, but rather a chance for you to become a better and better version of yourself.

Incremental improvement makes the passing of time into your friend. And there’s always a way to make some kind of incremental improvement.

Walk a little more briskly, listen a little more attentively. Be a little more patient and forgiving, focus a little more intently, care a little more deeply than before.

In every area of your life are constant opportunities for improvement. Little by little, without being overwhelmed, you can gently and enthusiastically make those improvements.

Don’t leave yourself struggling to catch up. Instead, make the choice in every moment to get a little bit further ahead.

The Daily Motivator

Daily OM for Thursday, March 21: Not Always Easy

Not Always Easy

BY MADISYN TAYLOR

When an idea is meant to be, it comes back to us time and time again.

Some of our goals and dreams come to fruition so easily that it is as if an unseen hand has done much of the work for us. When this happens, we say it must have been meant to be. On the other hand, when dreams and goals require a tremendous amount of effort, we may interpret this to mean that our dream is not meant to be. However, difficulty is not necessarily a sign that our hopes and plans are ill-fated. On the contrary, difficulties and challenges along the path can be important parts of the project’s overall meaning.

When everything goes smoothly, we feel blessed by the universe, as if a fleet of angels is guiding and supporting our every move. When things are rough or ambiguous, we sometimes feel that we have been abandoned. And yet, the truth is that we are blessed in both cases. Our angels and guides are always present. They may choose at times to back off and let us figure something out for ourselves, and this is when things seem difficult. But when things are difficult, we learn and grow in specific ways. There is a unique satisfaction that comes to us when we succeed at something that has been a challenge. Our sense of self-reliance expands, and our ability to endure and keep the faith is stronger for having been tested. We learn that we are capable of confronting and overcoming the obstacles in our path, and this empowers us to dream still bigger dreams, knowing that we will not be daunted by the challenges inherent in birthing them.

When we find ourselves facing difficulties with a particular plan or project, the chances are we know already whether we are meant to continue on or let it go. We simply need to look within ourselves for the answer. When an idea is meant to be, it comes back to us time and time again. Then we know we can go forward, no matter what challenges arise, knowing that it is meant to be.

Spring Blessings

Spring Blessings

a message from Gillian MacBeth-Louthan

Finally the blessings of spring make themselves known. First in tiny increments, then a few more particles, then soft breezes that seek a heart to fill. Favorable energies finally ‘come a knock’n’ at our doors. This year those who have never put an ounce of effort in our direction, will bring a bounty of unexpected provision in serendipitous ways.  In 2018 you were asked to climb and climb and climb again; above fear, above emotions, enduring deep water and debris.  You watched your world change its landscape right in front of your eyes, happening in moments not decades.  You felt helpless to change the outcome of what appeared to be fated.  You were stretched and pulled about like a shrunk sweater. You have changed forever never to return to who you once were.  You sit perched on a new olive branch of heart awaiting a signal from Noah/Noaa, it’s safe to go home. A mighty surge of blessedness washes upon earth souls escorting all to road of recovery and reconnection. As with all beginnings they must be experienced within the inner corridors of the heart.

The Blessings of this year travel to every shore on earth, in waves of Love.  The more thoughts you have of blessing self and others, the easier the Light connection will be made.  Thoughts of thankfulness and gratitude beckon this wave of blessedness; thoughts of negativity repel it.  The fruits of all past labors of life and love can be now tasted.  What was once thought to be lost is found! Energy spent in helping others was placed into a universal account that has accrued mighty proportions. Nothing was ever lost or wasted.  All actions of inherent goodness have been recorded and accounted for by the Cosmic abacus. All time spent in kind thoughts for others has been exponentially lengthened and multiplied beyond earth’s ability to count. A great amount of heavenly rewards finds itself headed for earth and those who have never stopped trying.

The Daily Cosmic Calendar for Thursday, March 21

COSMIC CALENDAR

It would be great to report that on the day after the equinox and a full moon that everything is coming up roses. While Venus in Aquarius forming a supportive, 60-degree link with Jupiter in Sagittarius (7:18 a.m.) can offer you a terrific boost across the board, a quartet of celestial pranksters could become a temporary nemesis. The foursome to sidestep includes Venus squaring Mars (1:08 a.m.), Juno contacting radical-change agent Uranus via a tense, 45-degree tie (4:17 a.m.), Vesta squaring Jupiter (7:44 a.m.) and Mars forming a challenging, 150-degree link to Jupiter (12:44 p.m.).

The proper safety net is peacefully striving to improve your key relationships while developing higher talents in the fine and graphic arts as the moon glides through Libra. The sun connecting with Saturn by an inspirational, 72-degree rapport (10:45 p.m.) becomes an evening asset when it comes to stabilizing business and professional activities.

Good Thursday Morning Brothers & Sisters of The Craft! May The Goddess Bless You Today & Always!

Spring fantasy

The Triple Goddess

As the Maiden, I saw through your eyes as a child
Spring rains, green forests, and animals wild!
I saw you run freely on the Earth with bare feet!
I watched as you danced in the winds, blowing free!
I was there as you grew, getting stronger each day!
I brought you rainbows, chasing grey skies away!
I was there in your laughter – I was there in your tears!
I was the acceptance you gained from your peers!
I saw your first love and I felt your first blush,
As passion first stirred in the night’s gentle hush!
I am there with you always in the fresh morning dew!
I bring you the crispness of beginnings anew

As the Mother, I bore all the labor distress
Of birthing your child, and I felt the caress
Of your hand on the face of the new life so dear.
I heard its first cry, and I eased your fear!
I provided the milk which you fed from your breast
Till the baby grew strong, and with health it was blessed.
As she took her first step, I was there in your smile!
I was there while you nurtured your beautiful child!
On the first day of school, when the doors opened wide
I was there in your fear – I was there in your pride.
I am there with you always in the bright full of moon!
I bring you fertility – abundance in bloom.

As the Crone, I brought blessings of wisdom with age
[Wisdom not found by the turn of a page].
I was there as you taught the correct way to live:
To love and to trust – to take and to give!
I was there in the twinkle of your aged eye!
I was there in your thoughts of the years flying by!
I was there when you taught the Mysteries of old!
I was there in the fire warming you in the cold!
In the weariness of age, I was there with you, too…
I brought well-deserved rest and peace unto you!
I am there with you always in the darkness of night!
I complete your life cycle, guiding you toward the light.

Maid, Mother and Crone – We are all One –
Yet We are all separate, as each role is done.
We do not leave you – We’re always there
As you walk through this life with your worries and cares;
As you dance in the spiral, We live inside –
Deep in your spirit – where nothing can hide!
No matter your path, no matter it’s length –
We give you courage and We give you strength.
We are there to support you every hour of day
And deep in the night, when dreams take you away.
Our gifts We give freely, for you are our Child…
Yes, We are the Lady: Wise, Pure, and Mild!

Wishing All Our Brothers & Sisters of The WOTC, A Very Beautiful & Magickal Ostara!

Good afternoon, brothers & sisters! Happy Spring Equinox! Happy Ostara! Just happy, happy everything! I wanted to apologize for us not being here with you today. I had a doctor’s appointment this morning that I had to keep. It is funny how times change. I use to not go off and leave anyone at the office because something always happened. Now, they don’t trust me to go to the doctor, so they all pack up and go with me. I know the doctor has to hate to see us show up. A mob coming through the door.

Lord Myst is the one who talked me into going to the doctor. My ribs have been very painful but then my left arm also started hurting. That is the arm, if you remember, they thought they were going to have to amputate after I had the truck accident. It was put back together with pins, pins, more pins and screws. The doctor sent us over to the X-ray department and they took a X-ray of it. I now have a cast on the lower part of my arm. Apparently there was some damaged due to the bone in that poor arm also. To be on the safe side he put a cast on the lower part of my arm. He said it should heal in a few weeks. Nothing to get upset about just a precaution. Then I got my rump jumped when he looked at my face. He wanted to know what happened and I told him. Apparently, I was suppose to call him immediately, which I didn’t honestly think about. I thought I was the bionic woman, apparently I’m not. But the cast doesn’t interfere with typing and he said there was no problem with me moving my fingers. That was one of the main questions Lord M asked. Good old Lord M, he is worse than a mother hen, I swear!

I do apologize for us not being here today, of all days. We will be back tomorrow, I promise. Well who knows, I could need to get one of my rods greased by then. Might as well laugh about it. as cry. I hope everyone of you have a better Spring Equinox than mine so far. Jacob and Joseph had helped the little kids color their eggs yesterday. They were planning on having an Ostara hunt today but, as luck would have it, it is raining here. I guess they can still have it in the office.

Thankfully this morning, at sunrise, it wasn’t raining. We all went outside to watch the sun come up. I felt a soft breeze blow against me. It was like my soul was being cleansed and refreshed. The others told me they felt it too. We all hugged each other and couldn’t help but shed a tear or two. We thanked the Goddess for guiding us through another Winter. We also thanked Her for this New Season of new beginnings and renewal. We asked Her for Her guidance and protection in the year to come. Then we proceeded to cleanse and sage the outside of the building and my cabin.

After that, Lynette and Eleanor went to cook everyone a hearty breakfast. I had to go and take a shower real quick to get ready to go to the doctor. I was looking forward to that hearty breakfast, HA! My hearty breakfast was a banana and yogurt, yummy. A banana and yogurt just don’t cut it when everyone else is having scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy. I knew not to dare reach for a biscuit or the gravy, they would have probably smacked my hand, lol!

Anyway, now that I have told you my whole life story for the morning so far, I am going to bed. We stayed up rather late, I feel alseep in the floor around two this morning. Then I had the boys hollering, “get up Momma, you’re going to miss it! Get up!” So I got up and my rump is dragging and the pain medicine is making me sleepy. I hope you understand why we are not on the internet today. We will be back tomorrow. Till then, my sweets….

Have a very blessed, beautiful & magickal Ostara,

Love ya,

Lady A

Wishing You & Yours A Very Blessed Ostara Eve…..

Spring Goddess

Ostara

Pink and green, yellow and light blue
These are the colors of the Springtime hues

The light returns to a frozen Earth
The Lord and Lady court in lusty mirth

He brushes her face
She brushes his horns
Tis not a thing to shun or scorn

Look there is a songbird
And over there is a hare

Excitement in our souls so sacred and fare

The signs that are given of a promise fulfilled
The rebirth of all nature
Flowers in the fields

But this is a beginning
Your goals don’t forsake
We must continue to water, continue to rake

To nurture and care for the still fragile seeds
Till they grow strong in to our magickal deeds

To pull the weeds and nurture with care
And watch your goals manifest
As we Will, stay Silent, and Dare

So salute the Lord and the Lady
As they explore and make marry
For your life will be prosperous
With strength, hope, and caring

Ostara Soap

1 cup grated unscented soap
1/4 cup hot water
1 tbsp. apricot oil
1 tbsp. Jasmine
1/2 tbsp. rose
6 drops frankincense oil
6 drops sandalwood oil
3 drops lavender oil

Place grated soap in a heat-proof non-metallic container and add the hot water and apricot oil. Leave until it is cool enough to handle, and then mix together with your hands. If the soap is floating on the water, add more soap. Leave to sit for 10 minutes, mixing occasionally, until the soap is soft and mushy. Once the soap, water, and oil are blended completely, add the dry ingredients. Once the mixture is cool, then add the essential oils (essential oils evaporate quickly in heat). Enough essential oils should be added to overcome the original scent of the soap. Blend thoroughly and then divide the soap mixture into four to six pieces. Squeeze the soaps, removing as much excess water as possible into the shape you desire, and tie in a cheesecloth. Hang in a warm, dry place until the soap is completely hard and dry.
