September 8th

Feast of the Blessed Virgin

It was more than 1900 years ago, in a little Galilean village of Nazareth, that a holy couple of the royal lineage of the House of David was blessed with a child. The child was called Mary, the chosen one of Adam’s race destined to be the Mother of Jesus Christ-the Christian redeemer of humanity. The feast of September 8 in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary originated at Jerusalem, as did the solemnity of August 15-the the Assumption of Mary.

Invocation for the Virgin Mary

Our Lady’s love is deep and wide,

To some her secrets are denied.

But we shall fearless still proceed,

To follow where she may lead.

She fills our hearts with hope and laughter,

That we shall not fear of what comes after.

Praise be to the Virgin, Mother,

and to the Queen of Heaven.
