A Look At The Stars for January 11 thru January 13

Friday January 11
6:38 am – Sun conjunct Pluto at 20 56 from Wednesday to Sunday greatly increases your personal power and ability to influence the outcomes in your life. However, your increased intensity and probing nature can lead power struggles. You may have to deal with underhand tactics such as controlling and manipulative behavior. Paranoia is possible under this influence but it is also possible that your enemies may be plotting against you. While such behavior on your part may lead to your undoing, you have the ability to uncover secrets and get to the bottom of any mysteries.

Saturday January 12
3:17 am – Moon enters Aries

Sunday January 13
8:30 am – Mercury conjunct Saturn at 12 51 from Friday to Sunday brings critical thinking which needs to be applied to serious or challenging mental work. Without a productive outlook for your intellect, your mind may dwell on negatives and you would find it difficult to get out of such a rut. Such negative thinking can lead to depression and difficulties communication this weekly horoscope. Harsh or critical words can then lead to relationships problems such as coldness, isolation or rejection.
1:57 pm – Jupiter square Neptune brings a test of your faith due to an embarrassing loss of face or some disappointment. You may have been too trusting or over idealized a romantic interest. It is important to cut your losses as soon as the reality of the situation shatters your illusion. This is a really bad time for being overly optimistic. You may feel trusting and generous but the risk of delusion and deception is too great to risk your resources.

A Look At Up-Coming Astrological Events for Australia

The Australian state of Queensland (QLD) has been hit by record flooding since Christmas, when tropical cyclone Tasha hit the coast on December 24 2010 near Cairns. The rain has continued, and flooding has affected a massive are of this large state. The situation escalated rapidly with flash flooding in Toowoomba on January 10 2011, and the Brisbane river is now spilling over in the state capital, home to over 2 million people. At least 10 lives have been lost with 80 still missing. This is the worst flooding in Australian history.

The obvious place to look for some astrological explanation is the December 2011 Lunar Eclipse because it came just 3 days before the flooding started. I believed this eclipse would be significant for Australia, because it was conjunct a very sensitive point in the Federation horoscope for Australia. The tightest aspect in this Australia horoscope is Mercury opposite Neptune (24′). Neptune is conjunct the fixed star Betelgeuse, the same star triggered by the December 2010 lunar eclipse.

Australia Astrology Chart
I was not sure what this aspect would mean for Australia, Mercury and Chiron opposite Neptune, but with hindsight, associating flooding waters with Neptune in this challenging aspect seems reasonable. Even transiting Neptune is aspecting this setup, trine to the Australian Neptune now. The rapid escalation of the crisis can be seen with transiting Uranus square the Australian Neptune, not exact till February 23. Jupiter is also square this Neptune, exact on January 17.

As I wrote in the January Forecast, I wasn’t expecting the Jupiter Uranus conjunction to cause the devastating flooding associated with the previous conjunctions, which we saw in China, Pakistan and elsewhere. This was because this January conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus was not on the star Scheat, like the other ones were. Well now Jupiter and Uranus are again closing in on Scheat, the star of catastrophic flooding. Jupiter is now within orb, and hits exact on January 20, square the Neptune in the Australian horoscope. This is the worst flooding in Australian history, and Australia is the “land of flooding rains“. I’m thinking that this sensitive Neptune, opposite Mercury and Chiron is to blame, especially now realizing that this Neptune is activated by the December eclipse, and square Scheat, which is being activated by Jupiter and soon Uranus.

Fellow Aussie astrologer Alice Portman has researched these floods, and also points the finger at the December lunar eclipse, though for different reasons than I have found. Alice used the horoscope for QLD and noticed that the December lunar eclipse was conjunct Mars and Jupiter in the QLD chart. Wow! That singles out QLD for special attention, it has both Mars and Jupiter on the fixed star Betelgeuse in the Orion Constellation, on the Australian Neptune. What I found particularly interesting in her article, Queensland Floods, was the horoscope for the 1974 Brisbane flood, the previous record flooding event. Saturn in that chart is conjunct the fixed star Betelgeuse, on the Australian Neptune, the QLD Mars Jupiter.

The one thing I see repeated here is Betelgeuse, the sensitive point in the Australia horoscope because of Neptune, opposite Mercury and Chiron. Saturn was there in the 1974 flood, QLD has Mars and Jupiter there, and this was triggered by the December 2010 lunar eclipse, three days before the flooding started. These connections are only obvious when we make the fixed stars the reference, not the degrees of the tropical zodiac. You especially notice this when comparing current events to much older charts, like the Australian horoscope for Federation. Precession correction means that Neptune in that chart (27°30′ Gemini), is now 29°02 Gemini, just 19′ from the December 2010 lunar eclipse.

Solar Lore

Australian Aborigine Creation Myth

There was a time when everything was still. All the spirits of the earth were asleep – or almost all. The great Father of All Spirits was the only one awake. Gently he awoke the Sun Mother. As she opened her eyes a warm ray of light spread out towards the sleeping earth. The Father of All Spirits said to the Sun Mother,

“Mother, I have work for you. Go down to the Earth and awake the sleeping spirits. Give them forms.”

The Sun Mother glided down to Earth, which was bare at the time and began to walk in all directions and everywhere she walked plants grew. After returning to the field where she had begun her work the Mother rested, well pleased with herself. The Father of All Spirits came and saw her work, but instructed her to go into the caves and wake the spirits.

This time she ventured into the dark caves on the mountainsides. The bright light that radiated from her awoke the spirits and after she left insects of all kinds flew out of the caves. The Sun Mother sat down and watched the glorious sight of her insects mingling with her flowers. However once again the Father urged her on.

The Mother ventured into a very deep cave, spreading her light around her. Her heat melted the ice and the rivers and streams of the world were created. Then she created fish and small snakes, lizards and frogs. Next she awoke the spirits of the birds and animals and they burst into the sunshine in a glorious array of colors. Seeing this the Father of All Spirits was pleased with the Sun Mother’s work.

She called all her creatures to her and instructed them to enjoy the wealth of the earth and to live peacefully with one another. Then she rose into the sky and became the sun.

The living creatures watched the Sun in awe as she crept across the sky, towards the west. However when she finally sunk beneath the horizon they were panic-stricken, thinking she had deserted them. All night they stood frozen in their places, thinking that the end of time had come. After what seemed to them like a lifetime the Sun Mother peeked her head above the horizon in the East. The earth’s children learned to expect her coming and going and were no longer afraid.

At first the children lived together peacefully, but eventually envy crept into their hearts. They began to argue. The Sun Mother was forced to come down from her home in the sky to mediate their bickering. She gave each creature the power to change their form to whatever they chose. However she was not pleased with the end result. The rats she had made had changed into bats; there were giant lizards and fish with blue tongues and feet. However the oddest of the new animals was an animal with a bill like a duck, teeth for chewing, a tail like a beavers and the ability to lay egg. It was called the platypus.

The Sun Mother looked down upon the Earth and thought to herself that she must create new creatures less the Father of All Spirits be angered by what she now saw. She gave birth to two children. The god was the Morning Star and the goddess was the moon. Two children were born to them and these she sent to Earth. They became our ancestors. She made them superior to the animals because they had part of her mind and would never want to change their shape.

The Sky This Week for January 11 to 13

By Michael E. Bakich

Friday, January 11

Have you ever seen the constellation Leo Minor the Lion Cub? If you answered, “No,” tonight could be your night. You can look for it around midnight local time. Don’t try before that because the Moon will still be in the sky. Unfortunately, Leo Minor is so faint that you’ll have to find two other celestial signposts — the Big Dipper and Leo the Lion — and work from them. The Big Dipper will lie high in the northeast and Leo low in the east. Draw a 45°-long line from Merak (Beta [β] Ursae Majoris), which is the Dipper’s Pointer star at the bottom of the cup, to Regulus (Alpha [α] Leonis), Leo’s brightest star. Leo Minor lies at the exact midpoint of that line. When you do locate its position, you might question the imaginations of early stargazers who drew a lion cub out of these faint stars. The constellation’s brightest star is 46 Leonis Minoris, which shines at magnitude 3.8. (The constellation doesn’t have a star labeled Alpha.) Beta Leonis Minoris is a bit fainter at magnitude 4.2.

Saturday, January 12

The variable star Algol in Perseus reaches minimum brightness this morning at 2:11 a.m. EDT. If you start watching the star a few hours after the sky darkens Friday evening, you can see Algol dim by 70 percent over the course of about 5 hours. (Astronomers would say its brightness drops from magnitude 2.1 to 3.4.) This eclipsing binary runs through a cycle from minimum to maximum and back every 2.87 days. Algol stands one-third of the way up in the northwest and sets about an hour after it reaches minimum brightness.

Sunday, January 13

The Winter Triangle shines in the southeast as darkness falls. This triplet of stars is an example of an asterism — a recognizable star pattern that’s not one of the official constellations. The most famous asterism is the Big Dipper, seven bright stars within the constellation Ursa Major the Great Bear. But asterisms also can incorporate stars from different constellations. The Winter Triangle, for example, uses the brightest stars from three of this season’s heavenly figures. The brightest of the three luminaries — and, indeed, the brightest of all the nighttime stars — is Sirius, which marks the head (or perhaps a jewel on the collar) of Canis Major the Great Dog. To Sirius’ upper left is Procyon, the sky’s eighth-brightest star and number one in Canis Minor the Small Dog. And at the westernmost tip of the Winter Triangle lies copper-hued Betelgeuse, the sky’s 10th-brightest star and the one marking the right shoulder of Orion the Hunter.

Wicca Book of Days for January 11

In years gone by, an old ritual to ward off Witches was performed annually on this date in many fishing villages along the coast of Scotland. At sunset, a barrel of tar would be placed on top of a pole, set on fire, and allowed to burn throughout the night. Afterwards, charred pieces of it would\ then be used by the villagers and fishermen as protective charms.

In ancient Rome, a festival called the Carmentalia was celebrated annually, beginning on this date and lasting until the fifteenth of January. The festival honored the Roman goddess Carmenta, a deity presiding over childbirth, whose priestesses cast the fortunes of children at the moment of their birth.

Juturna, the ancient Italian goddess of pools and still waters, is honored each year on this day.

Friday: The day of beauty

Frigg was the Norse goddess of beauty, love, household, fertility and motherhood. She was Odin’s wife. She wonderfully balances out the dreadfulness of all the masculine gods sitting around our week table.

Derived from Latin Dies Veneris, Friday is viernes in Spanish, vendredi in French and venerdi in Italian. The day belongs to Venus, the Roman goddess of beauty, love and fertility.

The Magickal Day of Friday

Friday falls at the end of the work week for many of us, and that means we get a chance to relax for a little bit! Mark your Fridays with colors like pink and aqua, and metals such as copper. This is a day ruled by the planet Venus, so it should be no surprise that Venus and Aphrodite – goddesses of love and beauty – are associated with Fridays. This is a day named for the Norse goddess Freyja, so be sure to take a moment to honor her as well.

Gemstones associated with Friday include coral, emerald and rose quartz, and plants like strawberries, apple blossoms and feverfew are also related. This is a good day to do spellwork associated with family life and fertility, sexuality, harmony, friendship, growth. Take advantage of Friday’s correspondences and plant a seed, make something grow, and enjoy your blessings

*Note: There are a lot of disputes as to the origins of the word Friday, because there is still a great deal of discussion as to whether it was named for Freyja or Frigga, and whether they were the same deity or two separate ones. Some scholars believe that while they may have eventually become two distinctly different goddesses, they could have had their origins in a single, common Proto-Germanic deity.

The Witches Guide to Friday

Ruler: Freya, Venus

Colors: Emerald green or pink

Power Hours: Sunrise and the 8th, 16th, and 24th hours following.

Key Words: Love, money, health

It is easy to spot the ruler of this day by its name. In the word Friday, we see the roots of the name of the Norse goddess Freya, a goddess of love and fertility, and the most beautiful and propitious of the goddesses thus the verse “Friday’s child is loving and giving.”

In Spanish this day of the week is called Viernes and is derived from the goddess Venus. Matters of love, human interaction, the fluidity of communication, sewing and the creation of artistic garments, household improvement, shopping, and party planning all fall under the aspects of Friday and its ruling planet, Venus.

Friday’s angels are Ariel/Uriel, Rachiel, and Sachiel. Rachiel also concerns himself with human sexuality and is a presiding spirit of the planet Venus.

On Fridays, the hour of sunrise and every eight hours after that are also ruled by Venus, and that makes these times of the day doubly blessed. These four hours are the strongest four hours for conducting ritual.

Check the local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac to determine your local sunrise.

Up-Coming Astrology Events for the States

Which USA Horoscope to use has often been a hotly debated topic on astrology forums, and seen a few guys banned around the place. There are many dates and times to choose from but there is one US horoscope which is gets the most attention.

The Sibly chart is the most commonly used by professional astrologers and for good reason. Ebenezer Sibly was an English astrologer and Freemason who had inside information about the Declaration on Independence, which occurred on July 4, 1776 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He used the time of 5:10 pm for the USA horoscope. In The Book of World Horoscopes, Nicholas Campion mentions the Sibly chart on page 365:

“it is therefore THE horoscope which signifies independence”

Proving the USA Horoscope
The very best way I have found to see if a national horoscope is accurate, is to test it against the country’s first atomic test. As always, I use precession correction for transits to get the best results. The Trinity Test occurred on July 16, 1945 at the Trinity Site, New Mexico, at 5:29:21 am. Below are the transits to the Sibly USA horoscope for that explosion. They prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the most accurate USA astrology chart is the Sibly chart.

North Node conjunct Jupiter 0°46′
Pluto conjunct North Node 0°24′
Neptune conjunct MC 0°30′
Uranus conjunct DC 0°52′
Saturn conjunct Sun 0°04′
Jupiter conjunct Lilith 0°57′
Part of Fortune conjunct Chiron 0°22′

The Battle of Antietam
The Battle of Antietam on September 17, 1862 near Sharpsburg, Maryland was the bloodiest day in United States history, with a combined tally of 22,717 dead, wounded, or missing. The following are transits (conjunctions only) from the battle horoscope to the USA Horoscope (Sibly):

Solar Eclipse conjunct Venus 0°00′
Quarter Moon conjunct Mars 0°27′
Neptune conjunct IC 0°26′
Uranus conjunct Mars 1°55′
Mercury conjunct Saturn 0°34′
Sun conjunct Neptune 0°38′
Moon conjunct Jupiter 0°51′
Ascendant conjunct Lilith 0°11′

The rising star in the USA Horoscope is Ras Algethi in constellation Hercules. Ebertin says: “Ras Algethi corresponds to boldness and a drive to gain power.” Robson says: “When rising it can mean a wise and clever man, but can also indicate an individual trained in various tricks, a liar who deceives with different kinds of plots.”

Moon Lore

You Have Heard About the Man in the Moon, Ever Heard About the Woman in the Moon?

A touching tradition is handed down by Berthold that the moon is Mary Magdalene, and the spots her tears of repentance. 63 Fontenelle, the French poet and philosopher, saw a woman in the moon’s changes. “Everything,” he says, “is in perpetual motion; even including a certain young lady in the moon, who was seen with a telescope about forty years ago, everything has considerably aged. She had a pretty good face, but her cheeks are now sunken, her nose is lengthened, her forehead and chin are now prominent to such an extent, that all her charms have vanished, and I fear for her days.” “What are you relating to me now?” interrupted the marchioness. “This is no jest,” replied Fontenelle. “Astronomers perceived in the moon a particular figure which had the aspect of a woman’s head, which came forth from between the rocks, and then occurred some changes in this region. Some pieces of mountain fell, and disclosed three points which could only serve to compose a forehead, a nose, and an old woman’s chin.” 64 Doubtless the face and the disfigurements were fictions of the author’s lively imagination, and his words savour less of science than of satire; but Fontenelle was neither the first nor the last of those to whom “the inconstant moon that monthly changes” has been an impersonation of the fickle and the feminine.

Mars lies in the constellation Pisces the Fish near that constellation’s border with another watery figure, Cetus the Whale. The Red Planet has faded since last year’s brilliance, but still glows with a magnitude of 0.6, much brighter than any of the stars that surround it. Unfortunately, this is the best Mars will look this year. It will continue to fade in brightness and won’t be this bright again until April 2020.

Thursday is the day of the planet Jupiter, dedicated to Thunor(Thor), God of thunder and agricultural work. His parallels in various European traditions are Zeus, Taranis, Perun, Perkunas and St. Olaf. The faith of the Northern Tradition holds Thursday sacred, just as Islam reveres Friday, Judaism the Sabbath(calculated from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday), and Christianity, Sunday. This is why almost all adages about Thursday are positive, such as “Thursday’s child has far to go,” “Sneeze on Thursday, something better,” or “Cut nails on Thursday for wealth.” Thursday rules controlled optimism, energetic growth, physical well-being and material success.

On Thursday, January 10, We Celebrate….

League of Nations Day (United States)
IRENE

Themes: Peace; Cooperation, Reconciliation

Symbols: A Peace Sign; White; Gates and Entryways

About Jrene: Look to this Greek goddess of peace to get the year off harmoniously with your neighbor and with all those you meet. Irene is Zeus’s daughter and one of three Horae who together preside over matters of peace, order, and justice. They guarded the gates of Mount Olympus to ensure that all who passed had good-intentioned hearts. Offerings to Irene were always bloodless, in honor of her amicable energy.

To Do Today: In 1920, the League of Nations was founded on this date to encourage harmony between nations. To commemorate this and honor Irene, extend the hand of truce to someone with whom you’ve been bickering. Let the energy of this day pour through you to begin healing that situation.

Peace is something that really begins in our own backyards. To generate harmony at home and in your heart, make this simple Irene charm. On a piece of white paper draw a peace sign. Fold this three times, saying,

Order—never cease, justice—release, let there be peace.

Put this somewhere safe in your home so Irene’s gentle warmth can fill your words and actions all year. Better still, make two charms and carry one with you to keep the peace in all your interactions! Wear a white piece of clothing today as a reminder to approach life with peaceful intentions, words, and actions.

Thursday’s Witchery

Today is the day for prosperity work of all kinds. It can also be used for healing work, whether that is a physical healing of an illness or an emotional healing. Also remember that you have to follow up your healing work and prosperity magick and physical action.

I can’t tell you the number of times I have met new witches who complain to me that their prosperity spell or “I need a better job” spell did not work as they expected. They’ll ramble on and on about how much time and money they spent working their magick….but, alas, they had no glorious manifestion of wealth or fabulous job that suddenly dropped out of the sky and landed in their laps.

Then, when I gently ask them, “Did you enchant your resume or application when you filled it out? Did you do a little confidence-boosting spellwork when you went to apply for the job or went to the interview?” typically they give me a blank, confused stare.

Nine times out of ten, their response is, “You mean I have to go out and actually look for the job too?” Um, yes, my dear, you certainly do. Magick follows the path of least resistance, which means it’s going to manifest along the simplest, quickest route. Get out there and hit the pavement. See what you can find. Times are tough and competition for good jobs is fierce, so you need whatever edge you can get. For folks like us, we’re going to get the edge by using our magick and our spellcraft.

Thursdays have such a rich source of magick for us to draw upon that, honestly, the sky is the limit. This is the day associated with the gods of the sky and heavens, after all. Get to know these deities and add their wisdom and magick into your days

MoonTip: Charging Tools with Lunar Energy

Of the many methods for infusing your ritual tools and spell ingredients with magical energy, charging them under the light of the Moon is one of the simplest and most effective.

Moonlight is known to have both cleansing and charging properties, so you don’t have to worry about clearing the old energy from your items as a separate step.

For best results, leave your tools out overnight under the Full Moon, or at least in a windowsill where they will receive direct moonlight.

Lunar energy is particularly suited to charging crystals and other mineral stones—particularly those associated with intuitive and psychic abilities. You can really see and feel the effect of the Moon on your crystals the next day—they’ll be shiny and new and feel great in your hand!

The Witches Magick for Thursday, January 10 – Juno’s Prosperity Elemental Ritual

This spell calls for some natural magick supplies. Try working with affordable tumbled malachite stones. As for the wheat stalks, look at the dried flowers and fillers in the arts and crafts shops. Ditto for the feather, or peruse a fly-tying store; you can usually pick up a package of feathers for a few bucks. As to the green seven-day candle, if you look around, you can find green jar candles. I actually found some at the grocery store for a dollar apiece. They were in the ethnic food aisle and were called novena candles. I simply peeled the saint sticker off of it, and abracadabra! An instant seven-day candle for my witchery.

As mentioned before, all of these magickal supplies listed below correspond with the goddess Juno in two of her prosperity-drawing aspects, Juno Augusta (the harvest mother) and Juno Moneta (patron of the Roman mint).

1 malachite stone (to represent the earth element)

A few peacock feathers (to represent the element of air)

3 small stalks dried wheat

1 green seven-day jar candle for prosperity

3 drops honeysuckle, peppermint, or clove oil (all of these oils encourage prosperity)

A clean dropper (to add the oil to the candle)

A long, thin screwdriver (to put holes in the candle)

A dollar bill or coin

Matches or a lighter

A safe, flat surface on which to set up the spell

Carefully and slowly push the screwdriver straight down into the wax. Now pull it straight back up. Add two more holes for the essential oil. Now set the screwdriver aside; using the dropper, squirt a few drops of honeysuckle oil down into those channel that you just created.

Next, hold the green jar candle in your hands and transfer a little of your personal power and desire for prosperity into the candle. Then place the candle on your work area on top of the currency. Arrange the stone, wheat stalks, and feathers to your liking. Make your work area pretty, and enjoy the process. While you are doing so, you may chant the following (the chanting will help you raise some energy too):

By the power of three times three
Bring prosperity now to me!

When you feel that you are ready, light the candle and repeat the following verse three times:

Juno Moneta, Roman goddess of prosperity
Lend your power to this elemental spell that I weave
Juno Augusta, mother of the harvest, hear my plea
These three golden stalks of wheat are a gift to you from me
A peacock feather for air, and a malachite for earth
Lady, bless me with success, abundance, and rebirth
For the good of all, with harm to none
In Juno’s name, this spell has begun!

Allow the candle to burn until it goes out on its own. It will probably take five to seven days for the jar candle to burn out. When I burn seven-day candles, I tuck them inside of my large cast-iron cauldron, then I place the spell components around the outside of the jar. That way, the candle can continue to safely burn, and even if it gets knocked over, everything stays contained inside of the fireproof cauldron.

Once the jar candle is finished, pocket the malachite stone and the bill or coin. Keep the money with you, tucked in your wallet or in your pocket. Tie up the feathers somewhere where prominent where you will see them every day, like the rearview mirror of your car, your dresser mirror, or a chest of drawers’ handle. Every time you see the feather, tell Juno thank you. Take the dried wheat and crumble the pieces apart. Sprinkle the seeds outside as an offering for Juno. Abundance and prosperity will find their way to you soon.

Please note: If you cannot leave the ritual candle safely burning then snuff it out when you leave and relight it as soon as you are home. It may take a few days longer, but the magick will still turn out, especially since you are taking the time and energy to tend the ritual candle so carefully. As you relight the candle, say:

As this ritual candle relights, so does my magick one more ignite.

Enjoy your ritual work, and may prosperity come to you in the best possible way!

Spirit Message of the Day – Divine Jubilation & Remembrance

A SYSTEM THAT WORKS

“Imagine it. Move towards it. Has to happen. It always works.”

“And then, all of a sudden…you’re on top of the world, an overnight sensation, the cause of intergalactic jubilation. What seemed like unending preparation has now culminated in your delivery. You can do no wrong; your vision is clear; your mission divinely inspired. Smiles, laughter, and accolades surround you. Friends, family, and loved ones salute you. The time is right, the place chosen, and the ultimate test is about to begin. You’re ready.”

“As if struck by lightning, the scene instantly changes. The next thing you know you’re a wee little babe and all the festivities become a distant blur. The images and vibrations of ‘the party to end all parties’ rapidly fade away, while the songs and laughter still ringing in your ears are replaced with harsh voices and loud speakers. Strangers surround you, and what you had felt as an indescribable lightness of being has been replaced with gravity.”

“Nothing, absolutely No Thing, could be worth this. There has to be a mistake. Something must have gone wrong. In total shock and broken-hearted, alone and frightened, you hear a calm voice rising above the ruckus. Warm hands are now drawing you through the air, holding you safely. As the motion gently stops, you hear words that cause every cell of your body to ring with vitality, recalling the preparations that made this all possible; confirming the clarity of your earlier convictions; reminding you of countless agreements, treaties, and rendezvous plans; and instilling within your heart a vision of the perfection, love, and purpose you were born of.”

“‘My dearest, welcome to the world. We’ve been waiting for this day such a long, lo-o-ong time’. Then without logic or rationale you think your reply, in words as alien to you as the artificial light in your room, ‘Me too’. And while this experience passes swiftly and you quickly forget all the calm voice evoked, it imparted a confidence that will never again leave you and a remembrance that all is well, that everything is going to be forever OK, and that you are here because it’s where you most wanted to be, in a world that most wanted to have you.”

Your Daily Planet Tracker for Jan. 9: Moon In Pisces

The Moon in Pisces: Intuitive, Empathetic, Imaginative

January 9 – January 12, 2019

Tarot.com Staff

Before we talk specifically about the Moon in Pisces, let’s talk about the Moon for a moment. Astrologers consider the Moon a planet, and it’s the fastest moving of all of them. Because it moves so quickly, the Moon passes through each of the 12 zodiac signs once every month. Just as the Sun has a placement in our birth chart, so does the Moon.

When the Moon is in Pisces

No matter what Sun sign you are, for a couple of days a month we all feel a little bit like a Pisces. When the Moon is in the whimsical sign of Pisces, you’ll find yourself drifting and dreaming. Forget that pressured series of events in your day planner, and don’t bother checking your watch. This lunation will have you more concerned with the thoughts that are dancing through your mind than the realities of your everyday life. Your intuition will be heightened, and you’ll accomplish more by letting your instincts guide you.

Because emotions are on overdrive during the Pisces Moon, you’ll have a sensitivity and receptivity to the world around you. This will be a time when you’ll feel sentimental, and wanting to connect with your loved ones in an effort to be closer to them. Don’t be surprised if you get a little misty during television commercials — this is just how this Moon affects us.

New Moon in Pisces

New Moons are always a time of new beginnings, and the New Moon in Pisces inspires us to imagine the future we want. Write down what it is you’ve been dreaming of and what’s stopping you from getting it. This is the time when we overcome our fears so that we can begin manifesting the things we’ve fantasized about.

The Pisces New Moon is also a period of profound healing. If you’ve been wounded emotionally or spiritually, this is when you will focus on your regrets, your anger, your insecurities, and your doubts. This is a good time to meditate or take a walk. These moments of solitude will allow you to go within and reconnect with yourself so you can patch up old wounds that have been lingering.

Full Moon in Pisces

The Pisces Full Moon is a time of compassion. When the empathy of the Pisces Moon combines with the skills of the opposing Virgo Sun, we truly have the best of both worlds. What these signs have common is a sense of service. This Full Moon reminds us that we don’t have to be precise to be helpful, and that making an error with a loving attitude is sometimes more beneficial than perfect behavior done begrudgingly.

The Full Moon in Pisces turns our simple thoughts into vivid fantasies. We might feel like we’re in a cosmic tug of war where we’re being pulled between idealism and reality. It may seem as though we’re being forced to choose sides, but the point of this lunation is to put ideals and inspiration into concrete forms so we can bring our dreams down to earth.

Your Daily Tarot Love Card for January 9th is The Tower

Daily Love Tarot

The Tower

Resentment that builds walls that keeps others we want in, out, needs healing today. Resentment shows in tension in a face that rarely smiles. The Tower urges you to start working now and you are one day closer to a loving, soul mate union. If your long-term relationship is undergoing a rough patch, talk about the things that bother you. Anger kills passion. You need to encourage them to talk to you.

Tarot Card of the Day for January 9 is The Hermit

Tarot Card of the Day

The Hermit

The challenge of The Hermit card is to be able to recognize a teacher in a humble disguise. This font of mysterious knowledge will not make it easy for the student to acquire his wisdom, as it takes time and long contemplation to fathom what he knows. He often speaks wordlessly, or in ancient and barbaric tongues, communicating with the elements, animals, and nature herself.

While an hourglass was an identifying feature on the earliest Hermit Tarot cards, more modern cards have shifted the metaphor, showing more or less light released from his lantern. In either case, the Hermit card reminds us of the value of time away from the hubbub of civic life, to relax the ego in communion with nature.

The universe is trying to send you a message!

2019 WILL BE DEFINED BY THESE TWO TAROT CARDS

2019 WILL BE DEFINED BY THESE TWO TAROT CARDS

A year can be measured in a multitude of ways. In terms of the Tarot, 2019 will be the year of The Hanged Man or The Empress.

Tarot and astrology both involve a blend of intuition and mathematics, and as such, annual thematic cards are divined through very basic means: just add up the digits of the year in question. So, for 2019, determining the year’s ruling cards is as simple as adding 2+0+1+9 = 12 (The Hanged Man), and then furthering that equation by adding 1+2 = 3 (The Empress). If helpful, consider the double-digit card a baseline for the collective mindset and the single-digit card a more individual mode.

2018 was marked by theJustice and High Priestess cards, and it was impossible to ignore their influences on the zeitgeist. Using the approach of the double-digit card as the collective, it’s easy to see how themes of law and order loomed large in the cultural consciousness. Legal issues abounded in the government in the U.S. — think the Russia investigation and numerous skirmishes surrounding the border — and were accompanied by ample debate in regard to trans rights and the fates of those whose abuses were brought to light by the #MeToo movement. Justice is a card that speaks of karmic righteousness, and many of us seemed to wrangle with cosmic rights versus wrongs, shadow-boxing with complicated ethics and moral dilemmas. Ultimately, each of us came to understand that we must rely only on our own voice of internal knowing (The High Priestess) to make decisions and lead the way to the future.

The Tarot-centric themes of 2019 only serve to continue this developing narrative. The Hanged Man speaks of surrender, release, and sacrifice, and often comes up when querents need to make choices around personal discipline and the relinquishing of bad habits. This is a crucial time for letting go of anything that is not serving us, for stepping into the embodiment of our higher selves. On a cultural level, it is a clarion call to surrender the comforts of our various privileges and unearned advantages. We will be forced to see things through new eyes, and The Empress will guide us on an individual level, assisting in making this process of letting go a thing of grace and beauty. She will accomplish this by asking what we are creating, what we are nurturing, where our energy can be softer and more loving, and how we can mirror or mimic the unconditional love of the divine.

With this guidance in mind, it’s best to welcome whatever the New Year brings with open arms. And should you find yourself in need of a bit of guidance, simply pull a card — enhanced perspective is sure to follow.

Moon Alert

We have the “all clear” today to shop and do business. The Moon is in Pisces.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Research of any kind will go well today because initially, you are in a practical frame of mind, and you’re willing to do whatever is necessary to get to the goods – in other words, to find what you’re looking for. Later in the day, you don’t care so much anymore. “Manana!”

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Someone older might have good advice for you today. Don’t hesitate to listen to anyone who has more experience because this will benefit you. Alternatively, you might be the older, wiser person dispensing advice. Later in the day, you just want to have a good time!

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Someone older or in a position of power, perhaps a parent or a boss, might have good advice for you today. If this is the case, it will behoove you to listen. Ironically, later in the day, you feel lighthearted about everything and not interested in advice. Go figure. (Life is a revolving door.)

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

This morning is a good time to study or plow through forms and legal matters to learn something that is important and practical. Later in the day, you want to goof off and hopefully, travel somewhere fun! It’s a productive and yet, fun day.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

This morning you are in a practical frame of mind. It’s a good time to attend to banking needs or deal with shared property, inheritances and insurance issues. However, later in the afternoon, you will overlook details and be too casual! Forewarned is forearmed.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

After some serious discussions about vacation planning or planning for kids, this afternoon will turn out to be a fun-filled, relaxing time, especially if you can spend some time at home. As the day wears on, you want to relax in a pleasant way among familiar surroundings.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

This is a productive morning at work for you because you are willing to put duties and responsibilities first. Furthermore, you will not overlook details. However, as the day wears on, these qualities will disappear as you become more lighthearted and casual about everything!

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Although children might be an increased responsibility in the morning, by the afternoon, you feel playful. You want to have a good time. You will enjoy sports, vacations and fun activities with children. You will also enjoy the arts, movies and musical performances.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

This morning you might have a serious family discussion with a parent or someone older or in a position of authority. You might cover some ground rules or set some boundaries. However, later in the day, everything is fuzzy and lighthearted! (Rules? What rules?)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Accomplish as much as you can in the morning because this is when you will be in a practical frame of mind. Later in the day, you will be too casual and easy-going to do anything that requires serious concentration. In other words, make hay while the sun shines.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

You will be careful with money this morning. If shopping, you will confine your spending to practical, long-lasting items. Later in the day, you will feel quite the opposite! You’ll be prepared to blow your money on anything that appeals!

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Get as much done as you can in the morning because you know that benefits will come to you from a willing acceptance of duty. You will make practical and orderly gains in your life. Ironically, by the afternoon, you just want to play!

If Your Birthday Is Today

Singer Rod Stewart (1945) shares your birthday today. You are always adventurous; however, many of you like to be involved in humanitarian activities. You keep your deep thoughts to yourself. Your personal freedom is one of your goals this year. That’s why you must embrace change and new opportunities. Expect fresh excitement! Be ready to act fast. Enjoy travel opportunities and chances to expand your horizons. This is a fast-paced year!

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Remember that the Sun is at the top of your chart, and this is the only time all year this occurs. This symbolizes that you are in a flattering spotlight, which makes bosses, parents and VIPs admire you. Obviously, you can use this to your advantage! Ya think?

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Travel and a chance to discover new things appeals to you now because you want to do anything that broadens your experience of the world. You want to see new places, meet new faces and learn new ideas! Give yourself a chance to do this.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

You’re full of passionate energy now that is sexual but also “possessive” or jealous. It’s easy to fall into the trap of keeping score. This is why you might be jealous of someone else’s wealth. But what’s the point of that? Someone always has “more” because there’s no end to better.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

With the Sun opposite your sign, your focus on close friendships and partnerships is fine-tuned. This is why this is the best time of the year to learn more about your style of relating to those who are closest to you. It also means you need more rest and more sleep.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

It’s totally appropriate to wonder how you should manage your life more effectively. Not only do you want to be productive, you want to be productive with the least amount of effort. You want to work smart. Natch!

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

You’re in a playful mood, which is why it’s important to give yourself permission to do your own thing. Get out and have a good time! Enjoy the company of children. Romantic relationships are more lighthearted. Relax and just be yourself!

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Grab every chance to cocoon at home because right now, you’re focused on your personal life, your family and perhaps a parent. Home repairs might also require your attention. Certainly, family discussions are taking place. This is where you need to be.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Accept the fact that your daily world is accelerating now because of the increasing demands of short trips, errands, tasks, conversations with others and time spent with siblings, neighbours and relatives. Yes, you have a lot on your plate! In addition, you might be studying and reading more than usual.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

This is a good time to reflect upon your values and what really matters. This is because you are more focused on money and property at this time. When you think of your possessions – do they serve your needs or do you serve theirs? Sometimes what we own is an albatross. Aagghh,

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Remember to use this time recharge your energies for the coming year. Take advantage of the fact that you can attract people and favourable circumstances to you because there are four planets in Capricorn right now. Four! Make hay while the Sun shines!

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Work alone or behind the scenes right now because you need to pull your act together before you take it on the road. Give yourself some time to ponder and contemplate what you want for your new year ahead (birthday to birthday).

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Enjoy your increased popularity. Be a good friend to others because after all, what goes around, comes around – and we all want good friends, don’t we? Share your hopes and dreams for the future with someone to get their feedback

HERE’S WHY 2019 IS GOING TO BE THE YEAR OF YOU

HERE’S WHY 2019 IS GOING TO BE THE YEAR OF YOU

People make all sorts of resolutions at the turn of a new year, often to abandon them within just a few days or weeks.

Sometimes that’s because the resolutions weren’t that well-intentioned – or that practical – to begin with, ie: fad diets, which are more often a health risk not a health choice. Sometimes it’s just because life has a way of catching up with us and we can’t maintain our new direction, as much as we may want (and need!) to make a change.

Well, in 2019, it’s gonna be different.

The movements of the planets strongly suggest that the first thing on our mind this year will likely be a very serious inventory of our practical goals and aspirations with a benevolent emphasis on breaking old and destructive habits. And while that type of focus tends to be par-for-the-course in our culture when it comes to ringing in a new year, this time the stars are in divine alignment with such possibilities. Breaking habits and encouraging positive change in your own life is more possible than ever with the astrology of the moment.

Why is this, you ask?

On January 2nd, 2019, we will find the sun conjunct Saturn at 11 degrees Capricorn, bringing our own egos into the matter. Pluto, our lord of secrets and dispenser of shame, hovers nearby, at 25 degrees Capricorn. Mercury and Jupiter are both anticipating the waning moon’s arrival in philosophically-active Sagittarius while Mars gets the home fires burning in his own familiar domicile of Aries.

What’s particularly remarkable about this moment in time is that we have four planets in their most proper placements: Mars in Aries, Jupiter in Sagittarius, Saturn in Capricorn and Neptune in Pisces. This sense of orderliness can lend an air of clarity and refinement to the astrological patterns at play.

So first we have Mars, planet of ambition and personal drive, stationed at home in defiant, get-up-and-go Aries. We also have gabby Mercury and good-natured Jupiter palling around enhancing the quality of our luck and our beliefs about ourselves in shimmering Sagittarius. Not to mention, we have the waning moon preparing to burn away all impurities in the centaur’s fire pit before appearing as a new moon in Capricorn on January 5.

Stepping away from the fiery aspects of the moment and re-grounding, we will find an entirely different mood from Saturn, Pluto, and the sun stationed in Capricorn’s office. They’re like lawyers or detectives in a gritty noir film, working late to crack a case. The mood is dismal but productive. They’re getting somewhere, even if they have to go through hell to get there.

Meanwhile, our old frenemy Saturn has been in his domicile of Capricorn for over a year now, having ingressed on December 21, 2017, and the world has been feeling it. Saturn, after all, is the transpersonal force associated with resistance, obstacles, determination and hard-won lessons. This planet’s effects on the cosmic weather are profound, deliberate and sometimes heavy-handed, hence the hullabaloo surrounding Saturn returns in one’s natal chart.

If you have been feeling put through the wringer in the past year, good! That means it won’t hit you all at once like a ton of bricks. While the effect of this transit depends entirely on the specific makeup of your natal chart, Saturn is always transiting somewhere and it always presents challenges. On a collective level, Saturn is a force to be reckoned with, and even more so when he’s playing a home game in Capricorn.

You may have looked at the symbol associated with Capricorn and wondered, like a lot of folks: “Ok, but what the heck is a sea-goat?” Originally, this symbol was associated with a god named Enki. Enki was a very important ancient Sumerian deity associated with both earth and water whose patronage included mischief, magic, creation and knowledge. In one myth about a great cataclysm that befell humankind, Enki came to help the human beings learn agriculture after they had all knowledge and awareness taken from them.

So, the moral of the story is that Capricorn is here to help pick up the pieces after everything falls apart. Maybe that’s why Capricorn natives can be so serious sometimes!

The ancient energy of Enki, the compassionate and benevolent god whose clearest aim is to share deep wisdom with humanity, shines in this concentration of Capricornian energies. Now more than ever, the planets are lending you a hand when it comes to perfecting, directing, and nurturing the base materials of the self.

All this to say, inner alchemy is possible in 2019! Now is the time to quit smoking, hit the gym, set a strict schedule around screen-time, switch to a healthier diet, commit to therapy, get sober, or whatever else you need to do for the betterment of yourself and everyone around you.

May Mars get you started, may Jupiter bless your path, and may Saturn keep you on track.

Happy new year!

Daily Cosmic Calendar for January 9

COSMIC CALENDAR

Keep opening the doors of perception a little wider as the lunar orb ends its monthly exploration of airy Aquarius by making a supportive, 60-degree connection with intuition-enhancer Uranus in Aries (8:54 a.m.). Search the online universe for new sources of higher knowledge. This celestial alignment begins a 2 hour void twilight zone that ends at 11:45 a.m. when the moon enters watery Pisces.

Uranus continues to make major headlines as it forms a potentially abrasive, 135-degree link to Jupiter (1:34 p.m.). There’s an anything-goes, outside-the-box dynamism to this important sky cycle. Too much of any good thing is not advised. Interest in the martial arts and holistic healing techniques is highlighted during a parallel between Mars and Chiron (7:28 p.m.). Dance away the moody blues as the moon in the last sign of the zodiac can give you happy feet.
