Magickal Plants Associated with Wednesday – The Fern

The fern is a traditional Witch’s garden plant. Ferns are herbs; they are perennials and prefer growing in the shade. There are over forty species of fern. Whether these are found growing in the wild or tucked into your backyard shade gardens, ferns are practical tical magickal plants. The fern has quite a bit of folk history behind it. It was thought that to grow ferns in the garden was lucky. Faeries were believed to jealously guard the fern, as ferns were thought to grant the power of invisibility. When a fern frond was carried on your person, it was thought to guide the wearer to hidden riches. On an interesting note, ferns are almost always used in fresh flower arrangements. Masquerade (Africa)
MUJAJI

Themes: Balance; Restoration; Weather; Cleansing; Fertility

Symbol: Rainwater

About Mujaji: Mujaji is an African rain goddess who exudes gently with fertility, or fiercely with cleansing, depending on the need. Her power and presence is so impressive that it led H. Rider Haggard to write the novel She, based on her cult.
To Do Today: To purify any area and ready it for ritual, sprinkle rainwater as you move clockwise saying,
Mujaji, flow through me;
Mujaji, cleanse me;
Mujaji, rain lightly here on all I love and hold dear.

If it does rain gently today, it is a sign of blessing. Go our and skip, dance or sing in the rain (think Gene Kelly with a magickal twist). This will renew your spirit and life any dark clouds overshadowing your heart.

=Africans observe this holiday as a time to reinstate symmetry in the world and in themselves. They wear elaborate costumes to appease the divine, praying for the necessary rainfall to ensure rich soil, and consequently an abundant harvest. To adapt this, pray to Mujaji to enrich the soil of your soul so that come the fall, you can harvest her productive nature.

The Magickal Day of Wednesday

Wednesday is named for Woden himself, although the Romans called it dies Mercurii. This is a day associated with the color purple, the planet Mercury, and the metal quicksilver – which is also called mercury. See a pattern here?

When it comes to deities… yes, Mercury! However, there are a few other gods associated with Wednesday, including Odin and Hermes, Athena, and Lugh. Gemstones like adventurine and agate come in handy as well, as do plants such as aspen trees, lilies, lavender and even ferns.

Business and job-related issues, communication, loss and debt, traveling, and journeys are all tied in to Wednesday. This is a good day to do a working to open up lines of communication – especially if your own actions are preventing you from being an effective speaker or listener. Go someplace new or return to an old favorite stomping ground, step up your game, and settle up your accounts.
