SPELL FOR EXTRA PROTECTION

The following spell may be performed at any time you feel the need for extra protection. First of all, gather together the following:
• 1 white candle

• Implement for inscribing a candle

• Protection oil (such as Lotus, Dragon’s Blood, Frankincense, Sandalwood, or Rose Geranium)

• Lighter

• Candle holder

• 4 obsidian arrowheads (obsidian, onyx, or apache tears stones may be substituted if you do not have the arrowheads).

• Also, gather together any ritual items you feel necessary.
Next, cast your circle. In the center of your circle, facing North, take the obsidian arrowheads (or stones) into your hand. Charge them with protective powers and place them around the candle holder, one in the North, one in the East, one in the South, and one in the West. Next, take the candle and inscribe a pentagram on it (which is among other things a symbol for protection), along with your name, or the name of the person you wish protection for. Now anoint the candle with your oil, while concentrating strongly on your need for protection. Know that you are divinely protected, a child of the Goddess and God. See and feel yourself being completely safe and secure, protected in your home, car, workplace, etc. Continue to charge your candle and visualize until you feel the candle literally bursting with energy. Now set the candle in the candle holder and light it. You may wish to continue the visualization, or use whatever techniques you wish to send the energy out from you. When you are ready, close the circle and allow the candle to burn down completely. It is finished. So Mote it Be!!!

WOTC Quiz: Who Will Be Your Guiding Goddess For The Rest of 2016?

Who Will Be Your Guiding Goddess For The Rest of 2016?

The many faces of the Divine Feminine have inspired and heartened people for millennia. Now, as we head half way through the year, it can helpful to know which goddess will be your guide for the rest of 2016. Is it Kali, she who destroys in order to create? Or Artemis the fiercely independent huntress? There are many goddesses to guide you, but one will be just right for the life-phase you are in.

This quick quiz will show you which goddess is by your side for the rest of the year, urging and encouraging you to be the person you are meant to be. Take the quiz here:

Which of the following is TRUE for you?

1. This year, what I long for MOST is freedom.

2. This year, what I long for MOST is a fresh start.

3. This year, what I long for MOST is love.

4. This year, what I long for MOST is to be healed.

5. This year, what I long for MOST is wisdom and learning.

6. This year, what I long for MOST is creativity.

If you answered TRUE to 1, ARTEMIS is your goddess. To the ancient Greeks, this goddess was a feisty, wild woods-dweller, in tune with nature and animals. Artemis encourages us to connect with the outdoors, with animals, and with our own fiercely independent spirits.

If you answered TRUE to 2, KALI is your goddess. This Hindu deity is the one to call if something in your life needs to go in order to make room for something new. Kali destroys what is stale so that new life can come in.

If you answered TRUE to 3, VENUS is your goddess. If love relationships or the longing for love are paramount for you this year, the Roman goddess Venus can help you to open your heart.

If you answered TRUE to 4, KWAN YIN is your goddess. This Asian bodhisattva is the most prayed-to deity on earth. Kwan Yin reminds us that the healing power of her understanding and compassion are always available to you.

If you answered TRUE to 5, ATHENA is your goddess. The ancient Greek goddess of wisdom and learning is often shown companioned by an owl, the traditional wisdom-bird to many. If you desire deep wisdom or want to do well in some course of study, Athena will help you to clear your mind.

If you answered TRUE to 6, BRIGID is your goddess. This fiery Celtic goddess of poetry and crafting (among other things) is a great help in unlocking your creative potential.

You might want to do a little research on your goddess, and then find images or statues of her to remind you of her help and guidance as you follow your path throughout the year.

Explanation: These three bright nebulae are often featured in telescopic tours of the constellation Sagittarius and the crowded starfields of the central Milky Way. In fact, 18th century cosmic tourist Charles Messier cataloged two of them; M8, the large nebula left of center, and colorful M20 near the bottom of the frame The third, NGC 6559, is right of M8, separated from the larger nebula by dark dust lanes. All three are stellar nurseries about five thousand light-years or so distant. The expansive M8, over a hundred light-years across, is also known as the Lagoon Nebula. M20’s popular moniker is the Trifid. In the composite image, narrowband data records ionized hydrogen, oxygen, and sulfur atoms radiating at visible wavelengths. The mapping of colors and range of brightness used to compose this cosmic still life were inspired by Van Gogh’s famous Sunflowers. Just right of the Trifid one of Messier’s open star clusters, M21, is also included on the telescopic canvas.

Earth Sky News for June 24: Latest dusk for northerly latitudes

Latest dusk for northerly latitudes

Tonight – June 24, 2016 – if you’re located around 40o north latitude, it’s your latest evening twilight for the year. The longest evening twilights always happen around the summer solstice. Although the Northern Hemisphere’s summer solstice, and longest day, happened a few days ago, on June 20, the latest twilight at 40o north latitude always occurs several days afterwards, on or near June 24.

The parallel 40o north passes through the cities of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Columbus, Ohio; it sweeps through the northern suburbs of Indianapolis, Indiana and Denver, Colorado.

Want to know for your latitude? Click here and check the “astronomical twilight” box.

The year’s latest sunsets don’t come exactly on the solstice either. For 40o north latitude, the latest sunset happens about a week after the summer solstice, on or near June 27.

Let us introduce you to the three different kinds of twilight:

Civil twilight starts at sundown and ends when the sun is 6o below the horizon.

Nautical twilight occurs when the sun is 6o to 12o below the horizon.

Astronomical twilight happens when the sun is 12o to 18o below the horizon.

It’s the land of the midnight twilight from 50o north latitude to the Arctic Circle (66.5o north latitude).

It’s the land of the midnight sun from the Arctic Circle to the North Pole (90o north latitude).

At the temperate zones and the tropics, the longest period of twilight after sunset or before sunrise happens around the summer solstice, and the shortest period around the equinoxes. At 40o latitude, astronomical twilight ends about 2 hours after sunset on the summer solstice; and on the equinoxes, astronomical twilight ends about one and one-half hours after sunset. Believe it or not, the duration of astronomical twilight reaches a secondary peak around the winter solstice, lasting about one and two-thirds hours after the sun goes down at 40o latitude.

Bottom line: Although the latest sunset won’t happen at 40o north latitude for another few days, the latest twilight happens on June 24.
