Healing Arts and Pagan Studies – Owl Medicine

We have all heard conflicting stories about Owl and its medicine, or its supernatural power to protect, cure, heal, and to prevent or cause harm. Some traditions teach that Owl is beneficial, while others indicate that Owl brings misfortune. The truth is for you to decide.

Owl Fact & Myth

Owl is territorial, a vicious fighter and a courageous defender of the nest. This is why Owl inspired and protected the Greek armies, and why Roman soldiers believed Owl signified triumph in battle. The Japanese drink a toast to Owl before a hunting expedition, and Russians believe Owl is sacred because it once saved the life of Genghis Khan.

Owl is monogamous in love. Therefore, Australian aborigines believe Owl represents the soul of women. French spinsters call on Owl to help them find a husband. Also in France, when a pregnant woman hears the cry of Owl, her child will be a girl.

Owl’s approach to rearing offspring is sometimes brutal. Many Owl chicks starve or are killed by siblings, depending on food availability. Perhaps because of these cruel survival tactics, African Swahili tribesmen believe Owl brings illness to children. Moroccans believe that Owl’s cry can kill an infant. Still, some Owl offspring always survive to produce more Owls; consequently, Owl amulets protect Babylonian women during childbirth.

Dawn, dusk, and the dead of the night is Owl’s domain. Owl is the Hopi god of the dead, guardian of fires, and tender of all underground things. Owl attends Lilith, the Sumerian Goddess of death, and in Mexico is called “messenger of the lord of the land of the dead”. Popular belief holds that seeing Owl or hearing its cry means impending death, sickness, and misfortune. Therefore, Owl is too evil to name in Cameroon, and is known only as “the bird that makes you afraid”.

You may have Owl Medicine if you frequently see, hear, or dream of Owl, or if you have gifts of invulnerability, insight, invisibility, keen observation, wisdom, and curative healing powers.

Owl Medicine According to mythology, if a person does something wrong, they may become Owl. Gwydion the Magician turned the unfaithful Blodeuwedd of Celtic Myth into Owl for betraying a magical secret. The Supreme Being of Borneo turned his wife into Owl after she told secrets to mortals. In Poland, girls who are married turn into Owl when they die.

Witches are sorcerers transform into Owl. The majority of indigenous tribal people around the world believe they do too, as shape-shifting is a common practice among shaman and magicians of various cultures.

If Owl Comes Calling If you are visited by Owl, do not panic. Instead, try to interpret what the visit might mean. For instance, you can interpret Owl’s cry by number.

One hoot is an omen of impending death Two hoots means success in whatever project you start next. Three hoots represents a woman who will marry into the family. Four hoots indicates disturbance. Five hoots denote coming travel. Six hoots means guests are on the way. Seven hoots are a sign of mental disease. Eight hoots foretell sudden death. Nine hoots symbolize good fortune.

If you hear an Owl hoot late at night, return the call to avoid bad luck. You can also take off an item of clothing and put it on again inside out, or get up from bed and turn your left shoe upside down. If you see Owl do the following: Throw salt in a fire to avert any possible danger.

Propitiate Owl by setting food, a shiny crystal, or some silver coins near the place where Owl appeared.Dedicate an altar to Owl. Cover it with a blue cloth. Place jewelry, and a moonstone, pearl, or crystal upon it. Ask the Lunar Goddess Artemis, Hecate, and Diana for help and protection.

Finally, never injure Owl, as it is our teacher and elder, and should always be respected. By Marguerite Elsbeth and GrannyMoon’s Morning Feast Archives )0( http://Goddessschool.com/Paganstudies/index.html

The Witches Magick for the 18th Day of the Wort Moon – Starlight Dream Magic

Egyptian Comments & Graphics

STARLIGHT DREAM MAGIC

Use this spell to discover your future in your dreams.

Before you go to sleep tonight, go outdoors and look up at the stars. Close your eyes for a moment, and take a deep breath while moving your closed eyes upward. As you breathe out, move your eyes downward. Do this three times to facilitate an alpha or relaxed state of mind. Now, become one with the night sky. Merge with the stars. Merge with the divine, and say three times:

Shining stars with your divine light

Reveal my future in my dreams tonight.

As you drift to sleep, repeat to yourself over and over:

The star will reveal my future in my dreams,

and I will remember when I wake up.

WOTC Extra – The Summerland is For Everyone

Before a soul is reincarnated it rests in the Summerland, according to Wiccan beliefs. The Summerland is different for everyone, and it is a place of rest and joy. When a person dies their soul resides in the Summerland before the soul is reborn to learn more spiritual lessons.

The Summerland might sound like heaven, but in the Wiccan faith everyone goes to the Summerland after they die. Even people who are bad or wicked will go the Summerland to wait for reincarnation. People who were not good people will not be punished. They just have to repeat the same lessons over and over again until they move to a new spiritual level. The Summerland is very personal and Wiccans believe that the experience of the Summerland is different for everyone. For one person the Summerland might resemble their beloved childhood home. For another it might resemble a tropical vacation.

Some souls get stuck or lost and don’t arrive at the Summerland right away. Souls that are the victims of extreme violence or souls that are clinging to their human lives end up trapped on Earth and they can’t go to the Summerland until they resolve the issues surrounding their deaths.

Let’s Talk Witch – There Is No Heaven or Hell

Wiccans don’t believe in heaven or hell. They believe in being responsible for your actions and casting spells responsibly and in the Law of Threefold Return. But they don’t believe that deities punish people or reward them after death. There is no doctrine about an afterlife in Wicca. Most Wiccans believe in reincarnation, or that they will be reborn after they die. Reincarnation is a path to spiritual enlightenment so Wiccans believe that they will be reborn into another life based on the spiritual lessons they have yet to learn. They study and meditate to achieve as much enlightenment as possible so that when they are reborn they will not have to repeat the lessons they have already learned.

It can be hard for some people to let go of the ideas of eternal reward or eternal punishment but many people find it is more comforting and empowering to embrace the idea that each person is responsible for their actions in this life and that living ethically is its own reward. If you’re a free thinker who has always believed in taking responsibility for your own actions the lack of dogma in Wicca could be a perfect fit for you.

Wiccans believe that before a soul is reincarnated it rests in the Summerland.

Eisteddfod

The Eisteddfod is an assembly of Welsh poets and musicians cians that compete for an “eisteddfa” or bardic chair. This traditional ditional festival is so important that it is announced 13 months in advance. From as early as the sixth century, the bards of Wales-who were the harpers, genealogists, and soothsayers, as well as court poets and story-tellers-are reported engaging ing in embittered disputes. Their special status was recognized by law so that formal competitions were used to settle differences. ences. It was at Cardigan in 1176 when the Lord Rhys presented sented chairs to the winning poet and best performers on the harp, pipe, and fiddle. The Eisteddfod became a way to rate bards and thus distinguish them from the non-bardic traveling ministrals or vagabonds. Overseen by modern Druids, the festival tival attracts thousands of people even today, and though many awards are given for a number of categories, the place of honor is still reserved for original poetry

Seasons of the Witch – Legends and Lore, Ancient Holidays And Some Not So Ancient!

Today Is …

Day Dedicated to Ix Chel. Invoke Her aid in any project with which you are having difficulty.

Vinalia Rustica In ancient Rome, a wine-harvest celebration known as the Vinalia Rustica was held each year on this date. It was dedicated to the Goddess Venus of the Grape Vine and also to Minerva.

On this date in the year 1692, the Reverend George Burroughs and John Willard were put to death on Salem’s infamous Gallows Hill as punishment for the crime of Witchcraft.

Egypt/Kemet: This date roughly corresponds to the start of the ancient calendar month of Paopi, the Egyptian New Year. Ptah is honored by some as Netjer of this month, an ancient God, also called Peteh, whose center of worship was Mennefer/Memphis. He was the ‘sculptor of the earth’ to the people, and his spirit existed when the primeval mound formed from the waters. His identity later merged with that of Osiris and other creator Gods. There were rituals in the temples honoring Osiris, Ra, and Horus on this day.

Wales: Ancient Bardic Tourney of Druids. Group singing and processions.

First of the month of FRUCTIDOR (fruit) in the French revolutionary calendar.

Wales: Ancient Bardic TUORNEY OF DRUIDS. Group singing, processions, musical & literary competitions, awarding of bardic degrees.

St. Helena – On Old British legends say that Helena was the daughter of Old King Cole and married the British officer, Constantine, who later became Emperor of Rome, For political reasons, he repudiated her and married Theodora, the daughter-in-law of the previous Emperor Maximilian. When Helena’s son, Constantine, became Emperor and Christian, she too converted. She sponsored several excavations looking for the Holy Cross. Supposedly she also located the crosses on which the good and bad thieves were crucified which means she can be invoked for help in discovering thieves.

Tuesday’s Witchery

Tuesday is the day to work any magick that falls in the category of increasing strength, courage, bravery, and passion. All of these intense emotions are linked to this day’s energies, and spells designed around these themes will have extra punch when performed on this magickal day.

So, let’s add a little passion and conviction into your life! Break out the daring red pieces of your wardrobe, and put a little pizzazz into your day. Work with Lilith, and see what she has to teach you about personal power and sexuality. Meditate onTiw/Tyr and Mars, and see what those ancient warrior gods will show you about new tactics, strategies, and claiming personal victories in your life. Practice conjuring up that astral weapon from the meditation and use it wisely for protection and for courage.

Create a philter for courage and protection or handcraft your own Witch’s jar to remove negativity from your home. See what other Witch crafts you can conjure up with Tuesday’s magick. Create some kitchen magick on this Tuesday by whipping up a spicy stew-add in a few Mars-associated ingredients such as carrots, peppers, and garlic. Empower the stew for success, and then treat yourself and your family to a good, hearty meal. Try working with a little aromatherapy and burn some spicy or coffee-scented candles to increase your energy level.

Check the sky at night, and see if you can find the reddish planet Mars up in the heavens. Not sure where to look? Check an astronomy magazine or search the Web for more information. Become a magickal warrior and move forward in your life with strength, courage, and compassion. Embrace the side of yourself that loves a good challenge and that is passionate and daring! Banish fear, and face your future with strength and conviction. Believe in yourself and in your dreams, work hard, and you will win every time.

Tuesday

A god, goddess, or planet governs each day of the week. It is usually easy to spot the ruler of the day by its name. The word Tuesday, however, is not so easy, but if we look at the word in Spanish, Martes, we clearly see its connections to Mars.

Because Tuesday revolves around the energy of Mars, Tuesdays are good for business, mechanical things, buying and selling animals, hunting, beginning studies, gardening, sexual activities, and confrontation. This is a day for sex magick, energy, stamina, and health. As in the old saying, Tuesdays child is full of grace, is also good for success magick and defense against enemies.

Angels of Tuesday are Camael, Samael, Satael, Amabiel, Friagne, and Hyniel. When invoked, Camael takes the form of a leopard. In Druid mythology he is a god of war, which is why we see him associated with Mars. Camael is said to be a member of the “Magnificent Seven” in some circles. Camael is another “terminator” angel.

Samael walks both worlds as a magician and sorcerer. some see him as the angel of death, others as “the bright and poisonous one.” Many consider him more of a demon, and accuse him of being Satan. However, there is reference to the satans (plural) as enforcers of the law, a sort of angelic police, if you will. Supposedly, when Samael is around, dogs howl in the night. On one hand, he is the ruler of the fifth heaven and in charge of two million angels; on the other, he is the one who changed into a serpent and convinced Eve to partake of the forbidden fruit of knowledge.

Satael is an angel of air invoked in magic rites and is the presiding spirit of the planet Mars. Amabiel is another spirit of the planet Mars; however he spends his energy on issues of human sexuality. Friagne, also an angel of this day, is invoked from the east. He is a member of the fifth heaven. Hyniel also belongs to this day and is subject to the east wind.

On Tuesdays the hour of sunrise and every eight hours after that are also ruled by Mars, and that makes these times of the day doubly blessed. These four hours are the strongest ones to do ritual in. Check your local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac to determine your local sunrise.

A Very Blessed Tuesday Morning To All Our Dear Brothers & Sisters of the Craft!

Egyptian Comments & Graphics

Moments

As fleeting as time can be
I try hard not to get too caught up
Our lives but a vapor
Recycled throughout time
What is time
It is but a moment
We all know moments come
Though there can be many
Remember they are fleeting
Only to last a moment
As sure as the clouds and stars above pass
So do all the moments we have
I try hard to remember
To be ever thankful for each
Always remembering
The choice is what we do
With each moment
So never take for granted
Each and every moment
For they pave the way
For the enlightenment of the soul

Circle Is Open Pictures

But we will back later on this evening. I was looking through another hosting site that we have not used in forever. I didn’t actually know some of those sites even still existed. But there are several and they have some excellent information on them. So either Mystie or myself will be moving that information and closing those blogs down.

I know you have heard of me taking about closing sites down. My reasoning behind that is to get everything centrally located. It is much easier to manage and also you have a lot of good information at your fingertips. Also these sites have some old spells on them, whoever is here this evening will be putting the spells here and on our Shadow Book. I didn’t realize till last night, the traffic our Shadow Book is getting. Due to this fact, we are going to start to build it up as well.

So you know our plans for now. Have a great day!

Till this evening, my sweets,

Love ya,

Lady A

One more thing, you might notice the sidebars have changed just a tadbit. If you happen to be looking for Coven Life or The Herbal Corner, I have moved their banners. They are now located at the bottom part of the site.

Explanation: Have you ever seen the Andromeda galaxy? Although M31 appears as a faint and fuzzy blob to the unaided eye, the light you see will be over two million years old, making it likely the oldest light you ever will see directly. Now rising near a few hours after sunset from mid-latitude northern locations, Andromeda is rising earlier each night and will be visible to northerners all night long starting in September. The featured image captured Andromeda rising above the Italian Alps last month. As cool as it may be to see this neighboring galaxy to our Milky Way with your own eyes, long duration camera exposures can pick up many faint and breathtaking details. Recent data indicates that our Milky Way Galaxy will collide and coalesce with the slightly larger Andromeda galaxy in a few billion years.

Your Daily Planet Tracker for August 17th: Mercury in Virgo, Now Until Aug 27, 2015

Planet Tracker

Mercury in Virgo

Now Until Aug 27, 2015

Mercury, the planet of communication, has two home signs: Gemini and Virgo. Gemini represents the objective airy side of thought, while Virgo is the practical, earthy side. Mercury in Virgo, then, is a time when thought is most likely to be used with efficiency and conversation grounded in reality.

A planet is considered to be strong when in its home sign, one which it is said to rule. This helps direct and refine its energies to higher levels of purity and power. Mercury in Virgo is, therefore, a strong period in which to analyze and criticize with great precision. Taken to its extremes, however, this can become a narrowness of thought that kills imagination and abstraction. Mercury in Virgo often works best after original ideas are born in rough form that can then be polished and refined.

Those born with Mercury in Virgo usually have very sharp minds that readily comprehend complex patterns and fine details. Success, though, comes when this narrow view is balanced with awareness of the big picture and higher orders of reality. The best thinkers are able to move comfortably among various perspectives to give the widest understanding possible.

Those born with Mercury in Virgo include the highly regarded basketball coach Phil Jackson, law professor Alan Dershowitz, Lyndon Johnson, Yasser Arafat, writers H.P. Lovecraft and Truman Capote, astronaut Neil Armstrong, chef Julia Child and spiritual teacher Sri Aurobindo.

The world of music offers composers Claude Debussy and George Gershwin, and singers Bobby Short, Whitney Houston and Madonna. Acting Mercury in Virgos include Dustin Hoffman, Peter O’Toole, Sean Connery, Ingrid Bergman, Melanie Griffith, Steve Martin, Michael Douglas, Chevy Chase, Lucille Ball and Mae West.
