April 21
Parilia
The festival of Parilia, or Pales, was annually held on April 21. Connected with the birth of Rome, this festival was for the purification of sheep and shepherds. The sheep pens were cleaned and decorated with greenery. Large bonfires were built and the sheep were ritually purified in their smoke, as were the shepherds. The festival came to a close with offerings of milk and sweet cakes for Pales.
