Celebrating Legends, Folklore & Spirituality 365 Day A Year for June 23 and 24
June 23 and 24
St. John’s Eve and St. John’s Day
The feast of St. John the Baptist is unusual because it celebrates ebrates his death rather than his birth. St. John has been called the saint of the Summer Solstice, in that his feast has long been associated with that of Midsummer. The superstitious still believe St. John’s Eve to be one of the most uncanny and dangerous nights of the year, when all manner of fairies, ghosts, and evil spirits are aboard.
St. John’s Day has long been considered the best time to discover one’s true love. Generally, the magickal practices that take place on this day are in the form of divination. For example, if you pare an apple round and round without a break in the peeling and then throw the peel over your left shoulder, it will form the initial of your future husband or wife. Place a glass of water directly under the sun’s rays, and leave it for one hour. During this time you must sit silently next to the glass. When the time is up, add the white of an egg to the water in the glass. It will spell out the name or occupation of the spouse-to-be.

The Witches Spell for Friday, June 23rd – Attract A Specific Person Love Ritual
Attract A Specific Person Love Ritual
This is not a spell to attract a specific person, it is intended to attract a person who will be compatible. You will need a teaspoon or so each of the following herbs:
Basil herb,
Cardamom pods,
Marjoram herb,
whole Cloves,
Rose petals,
a Tonka bean.
If you cannot easily obtain the Tonka bean you may do without it. You will need some
red, natural fiber,
fabric – a quarter yard will be enough,
a needle and thread.
Cut two squares out of the fabric.
A small piece of rose quartz and/or lepidolite is an optional, but desirable ingredient.
Place your materials on the altar.
You should have a love incense and if possible, a piece of rose quartz on the altar for this spell.
After the circle is cast and the love incense lit, place the two squares of fabric, right sides together, and sew around three sides of the square. As you are doing this, visualize yourself as a lovable and loving person, in a relationship that is fulfilling and happy. When you are done sewing, place the squares on the altar and state the purpose of the spell aloud in your own words. Something like:
“I seek to have a love in my life, someone special with whom to share the wonders of life, to grow with and learn with, someone to know well and be known by, my ideal partner.”
Take up the fabric square and turn it right side out. Spoon the herbs into the bag one at a time saying aloud the appropriate line as you add each one:
“Basil, sacred herb of Mars,
I call upon your powers to bring to me the love I seek.
Cardamom, sacred herb of Venus,
I call upon your powers to bring to me the love I seek.
Marjoram, sacred herb of Mercury,
I call upon your powers to bring to me the love I seek.
Cloves, sacred herb of Jupiter,
I call upon your powers to bring to me the love I seek.
Rose, sacred herb of Venus,
I call upon your powers to bring to me the love I seek.
Tonka, sacred herb of Venus, I call upon your powers to bring to me the love I seek.”
If you are using the rose quartz say the following as you add it to the bag:
“Rose Quartz, stone of peace and love,
I call upon you lend your powers to my quest,
assist me in finding the love I seek,
open my heart that I may be ready to love
and open my eyes that I may see it for what it is.”
Take up the needle and thread and sew up the last side of the bag. As you do so, visualize the fruition of the spell, you are in a loving relationship of two equals that is fulfilling and happy. When you finish, form the vision as clearly as possible in your mind, feel the love surrounding you and wrapping you in a pink mist, sense the warmth. Holding the bag in your projective hand (the one you write with), visualize and feel the energy in the form of the pink mist flowing from you into the bag. As you will the energy into it, say:
“I invest this amulet of love with the power of my vision,
the power of Venus and Aphrodite,
the power of the herbs (and crystal) within it.
It will bring me the love I desire and make me ready to receive it.
As I will, so mote it be!”
It is done.
Dismiss the circle and carry the amulet bag with you at all times

Let’s Talk Witch – Basics of Love Magic
Let’s Talk Witch – Basics of Love Magic
In some circles of the Pagan community, magical workings pertaining to love are frowned upon. The rationale is that to do any magic related to love is to interfere with the free will of someone else. However, there are many traditions that believe love magic is perfectly acceptable to perform, either generally (as in, “bring love my way”) or specifically (as in, “Brad is gonna fall head over heels in love with me”). If you’re of the opinion that love-oriented workings fall within your scope of ethics, here’s some information on traditional love magic.
Love Poppets
In some forms of European folk magic, there are a number of ways to bring love your way. One of the most well-known (and easiest) is through the use of a poppet, or magical doll. You can approach this in a couple of different ways:
Create a poppet that represents yourself, and use it to draw love to you
Create a poppet that represents the object of your affection, if your tradition permits you to do so, and use it to compel the person to see you as someone worthy of love
Create a poppet for yourself and a poppet for the person you wish to be with, and do a working that brings the two of them together
Remember, if your beliefs prohibit you from doing love magic on other people, the first option may be the best one for you.

A Little Witchery for Your Friday
A Little Witchery for Your Friday
Love magick is a perennial popular topic. However, there is more to this topic than meets the eye. There are many enchanting layers here for us to explore on this day of the week. What about creating a loving home, or producing a loving and nurturing family? What about keeping your intimate relationships vital and on track? How about promoting happy, healthy, and enduring friendships? See, there is more to be considered than just the “You shall be mine…” type of fictional love spell.
Don’t forget that many of the deities associated with Fridays are also parents. So, yes, while this is the day to work on romance, sex, and love spells, there is additional magick to be considered here, which makes Fridays a more well-rounded and bigger opportunity for witchery than many folks ever truly realize. The truest, strongest magick always comes from the heart.

The Witches Guide for Friday – Freya’s Day
The Witches Guide for Friday – Freya’s Day
Ruler: Freya, Venus
Colors: Emerald green or pink
Power Hours: Sunrise and the 8th, 16th, and 24th hours following.
Key Words: Love, money, health
It is easy to spot the ruler of this day by its name. In the word Friday, we see the roots of the name of the Norse goddess Freya, a goddess of love and fertility, and the most beautiful and propitious of the goddesses thus the verse “Friday’s child is loving and giving.”
In Spanish this day of the week is called Viernes and is derived from the goddess Venus. Matters of love, human interaction, the fluidity of communication, sewing and the creation of artistic garments, household improvement, shopping, and party planning all fall under the aspects of Friday and its ruling planet, Venus.
Friday’s angels are Ariel/Uriel, Rachiel, and Sachiel. Rachiel also concerns himself with human sexuality and is a presiding spirit of the planet Venus.
On Fridays, the hour of sunrise and every eight hours after that are also ruled by Venus, and that makes these times of the day doubly blessed. These four hours are the strongest four hours for conducting ritual.
Check the local newspaper, astrological calendar, or almanac to determine your local sunrise.

On Friday, June 23rd, We Celebrate…..
Rousalii (Romania)
THE ROUSALII
Themes: Humor, protection, weather, fertility, fairies, growth
Symbols: Water, linen, green robes
About the Rousalii: A group of ill-treated women in life, these goddesses often create mischief when they interact with humans, especially those with nasty dispositions. They do, however, have a good side. The Rousalii know the dances that make plants and people grow and thrive, and sometimes they will teach them in humans. In literature, the Rousalii sometimes appear as water fairies, begging linen from passersby, which they use to make green robes for fertility rites.
To Do Today: In Romania, people would tell you that it is best to stay home today and leave the Rousalii offerings of bread and salt to avert their impish ways. If it’s windy, definitely stay home; this means the ladies are in a foul mood. To protect yourself, place wormwood under your pillow, pull the covers over your head, and stay put!
On a less drastic level, wear someting green to keep them happy and try this spell to encourage the Rousallii’s growth or maturity in any area of your life: Take a little piece of linen and dance with it in your hand, moving clockwise and saying:
The dance of life, the dance of power,
Rousalii, join me this magic hour!
To_________________bring growth and maturity; by
your-power this spell is freed!
Fill in the blank with your intention. Tuck the swatch of cloth on your person, or close to the area that represents your goal.
