Prayer of the Bell

For this activity you will need a bell or gong and a prayer mat (a small woven mat used for prayer). Turn down the lights, sit comfortably on the mat, and place the bell or gong in front of you. Take several deep breaths. Relax and speak the prayer.

Would that the sound of the bell might go beyond our earth,
And be heard even by all the denizens of the darkness
Outside the Iron Mountains.
(ring bell)
Would that their organ of hearing becoming pure,
beings might attain perfect direction.
(ring bell)
So that every one of them might come finally
to the Realization of supreme enlightenment.

Celebrating Legends, Folklore & Spirituality 365 Days a Year for April 8th – Hanamatsuri, Birthday of Buddha

April 8th

Hanamatsuri, Birthday of the Buddha

Siddhartha-Gautama-Shaka, commonly called the Buddha, which in Sanskrit means “the enlightened one,” was born on this day around 563 B.C. In his youth, Siddhartha lived a life of sheltered luxury. At the age of 29 he left his palace home and for the first time encountered the poverty, suffering, and death of the common people. From that moment forward he dedicated his life to the pursuit of enlightenment. At 35 he achieved enlightenment, becoming a Buddha. For the next 45 years he traveled teaching Buddha’s Dharmas-a way of life patterned after his own path of enlightenment.

Among the Buddhist holidays, the celebration of April 8 is the most important. To commemorate his birthday, Buddhist temples in Japan and America alike construct a platform that is covered with flowers. On the platform, an image of the infant Buddha is placed in a tub filled with licorice tea. The members of the temple then take part in pouring licorice tea over the figure of the Buddha to signify the act of bathing him. They will then drink some of the sweet tea themselves, an act that is supposed to effect the purification of their spirits and make them Buddha-like.

Perfect Oil for Friday – Love Oil

Gothic Witch Doll With Dragonflies
LOVE OIL

On a Friday evening when the Moon is waxing gather a little orris root, an earthen bowl and a quantity of pure olive oil. If you are a woman also have a vial of jasmine oil; patchouly will do for.

Lay a pink cloth on the altar. Light pink candles.Pour the orris root into the earthen bowl, then add about half a cup of olive oil. Stir with the forefinger of your strong hand seven times clockwise. Now add the essential oil, no less than three drops, no more than seven.

Place the bowl on the altar. Gaze into it, infusing the oil with your desire for love. Enchant it by saying:

Love, love, love, love, love, love, love.

Simple and to the point, right? You might want to substitute a favorite love poem or sonnet.

Pour the oil into a jar and cork it tightly. Leave in a dark place, surrounded by the pink altar cloth, for 7 days. Upon the next Friday night uncork the bottle, strain and then store in the same bottle until needed.

Love oil should only be worn by its creator.

Firmly tie a knot near one end of the braid thinking of your need for love.

Next tie another know and another, until you have tied seven knots.

Wear or carry the cord with you until you find your love.

After that, keep the cord in a safe place or give to one of the elements – burn it and toss the

In the meantime, try sharing red berries with your partner some enchanted evening. Work that meditation, and see what other mysteries Freya has to teach you. Wear a Venus planetary color and call on the Goddess for a little inner sparkle. Burn some floral incense, light up some rosy candles, and set a romantic mood. Try wearing a little copper jewelry, and see how it affects you and your Friday magick. Get those potpourri and philter recipes going, and see what you can conjure up.

Advancing your magickal skills takes drive, ambition, and passion. Work with Eros to discover just how much enthusiasm, inspiration, and drive he can bring into your days, for the imagination is a place where dreams flourish and ideas come to fruition.

Call on these fertile and romantic powers, and create your own unique spells and charms. Just think of all the magickal information that you can now add to your repertoire of witchery. Lastly, remember this: when you combine imagination and a loving heart with magick, you’ll succeed every time.

Friday’s Witchery

Celtic Druid!
Friday’s Witchery

Love magick is a perennial popular topic. However, there is more to this topic than meets the eye. There are many enchanting layers here for us to explore on this day of the week. What about creating a loving home, or producing a loving and nurturing family? What about keeping your intimate relationships vital and on track? How about promoting happy, healthy, and enduring friendships? See, there is more to be considered than just the “You shall be mine…” type of fictional love spell.

Don’t forget that many of the deities associated with Fridays are also parents. So, yes, while this is the day to work on romance, sex, and love spells, there is additional magick to be considered here, which makes Fridays a more well-rounded and bigger opportunity for witchery than many folks ever truly realize. The truest, strongest magick always comes from the heart.
