Question of the Day (Alright Guys This One Is For You)

It is a common misunderstanding by those who are not familiar with the Craft to call male witches, “warlocks.” I know I have seen new comers to the Craft and they also refer to themselves as Warlocks. They think being called a warlock is, I guess a super witch or cool but really. I have tried to tell them that a male witch is not a warlock, just another witch and then give them the definition of a warlock. They get mad because they don’t like the definition I give them and tell me I am wrong. I think since I am a Hereditary Witch, I should know what I am talking about. So guys, it’s your turn……What I want to know has anyone ever found out you were a witch and then said, “Hey, you’re a warlock?” If so, did you correct them? Also how does it make you feel when you are referred to as a warlock?

I will give you my answer or opinion right now, it makes me very angry when someone refers to our brothers as warlocks. To me it is a personal insult to each and every male in our community and I believe anyone ignorant enough to refer to a male witch as a warlock, should be corrected. I believe if I were a male witch being called a warlock would be fighting words. To be referred to as an oath-breaker, a person who has betrayed their own and done unspeakable acts, that to me would be a slap in the old face. Now guys, I want to hear your take on this subject. You’ve heard mine, now it is your turn.

  1. I am a witch. The name Warlock. It originated in Old English as Oath Breaker or Traitor.

I am simply a witch as I am a retired nurse, not a retired male nurse.

    1. Thank you for your comment, Edward. I agree 100% with you. It makes me angry for people that do not know nothing about us automatically assume what they see on TV or in the movies is correct. That is about the only place the mundane could have picked the word up from. I believe if they don’t know anything about us then they should keep their mouth shut. As they say, “open mouth insert foot!” But it does make me angry when someone refers to our brothers as warlocks. It really gets under my skin when I try to tell the ignorant person the truth about the word and they tell me, you are wrong. I know as a female, I have done my fair share of correcting people who refer to male witches as warlocks. It is an insult and that is the way I feel about it. Now if the public would just realize that, I guess things would be a little better. At least, we would know they took a moment to learn something about us. Thank you again, Edward. It is great to see you today. I hope you have a very blessed Monday.

  2. Almost everyone I meet that is not aware has the question, “Are you a warlock”. I let them know that I’m simply a male witch, no more. It’s not up to me to educate those who gather information from tv. I’m rarely insulted by those who possess the hollywood images in their mind. 🙂

    1. Thank you John for your comment. Sometimes is best just to state the facts and leave it at that. I guess I have fought to many battles in my lifetime. I have seen how they have took, stole and twisted all the information they think they have about us. Calling a male witch a warlock is just part of the misunderstanding of our religion that upsets me. I guess since I am not a male witch, it shouldn’t but it does. I found out over the years that it is sometimes best to just let it go and let people come to their own conclusions. Then again, there are other things that I consider worth fighting for. I respect and admire you for the ability to just state the truth and leave it at that. Thank you for your comment. I have definitely learned something from you.
      Have a very blessed Tuesday,
