“Never put your faith in a Prince. When you require a miracle, trust in a Witch.”

― Catherynne M. Valente, In the Night Garden

Today is Monday, October 22

Monday is the sacred day of the moon, personified as the goddesses Selene, Luna, and Mani. The moon is ruler of flow, affecting the changeable and impressionable aspects of people. If a full moon falls on a Monday, then the powers of the moon are at their most potent.

Remember Rosemary

Sacred to Venus, the Roman goddess whose namesake planet is about to relinquish its astrological ascendancy, rosemary is best known today as an aromatic culinary herb. In Ancient times, however, this evergreen was considered a lucky charm as well as an emblem of loyalty and love and in Hamlet, playwright William Shakespeare has Ophelia saying, “There’s roemary, that’s for remembrance; pray, love, remember.” Its antibacterial, anti-septic qualities have also caused it to be used to ward off and treat a long list of illnesses and ailments over the ages.

Avina Aid

Take this last day of Libra as a cue to consider the winter welfare of the creatures of the air, its element. You could, for instance, erect a bird table, shop for seeds and other types of basil food, or buy a bird bath to fill with water to feed your feathered friends.

On Monday, October 22, We celebrate…

Hi Matsuri (Japan)

Themes: Mediation; Health; Cleansing

Symbols: Fire or Water

About Izu no me mo Kami: A goddess of purification, Izu no me mo Kami helps us prepare for the sacred festivals of late fall and early winter with her cleansing power. While she was born in water, this goddess’s energy exists in any rites for purification, including those centered on fire.

To Do Today: This is a fire festival in Japan designed to welcome and help people commune with the native deities who come to earth this day. People carry light sources like candles and torches, which offer Izu no me mo Kami’s purifying energies to the meeting. In this part of the world it is considered unseemly to go before the gods spiritually or physically dirty.

In keeping with this theme, take a ritual bath today before your daily prayers or meditations. Add cleansing herbs like pine needles, bay leaves, fennel, lemon rind. Alternatively, drop in a few herbal tea bags (like peppermint or chamomile) to keep the dried items from clogging the drain. Before getting in, stir the water counterclockwise, saying,

Goddess of cleansing power,
purify me this sacred hour.
Remove all guilt, all blame or shame.
I ask this by invoking your name:
Izu no me mo Kami.

Keep whispering the goddess’s name at regular intervals until you get out of the tub. Then enter your prayers and meditations with a purified mind, heart, and spirit.

Monday: Keep the moon safe from the wolf

Easy to remember – Monday is the Moon Day. The word moon is associated with the Norse god Mona (Máni). He was pulling the moon accross the sky, trying to escape and save it from a mythological wolf. At the end of the world, the wolf will catch them and tear the moon into pieces. This apocalyptic period of the world is called Ragnarok in Norse mythology.

In Romance languages, Monday is also the Moon Day (lunes in Spanish, lundi in French, lunedi in Italian: coming from Latin Dies Lunae).

Monday is named after the moon. The Latin term for Monday is Dies Lunae (“moon’s day”); in the Old English language, this day was Monandaeg; in Greek, it was Hermera Selenes. All of these different names and languages translate to the same thing: the “day of the moon.”

Working with the different phases of the moon is an important skill that takes a bit of time for Witches to learn. So why not cut to the chase and experiment with the day of the week that is dedicated to the moon in all of its magickal energies and aspects?

Magickally, Monday encourages the lunar energies of inspiration, illusion, prophetic dreams, emotions, psychic abilities, travel, women’s mysteries, and fertility.

Monday’s Witchery = Lunar Magick

Think for a moment on all of the witchery, magick and enchantments that you have discovered. Don’t be afraid to adjust spells to suit your own specific needs. Any gentle, illusory, and dreamy charms and spells can be enhanced when you work on the day of the week that is dedicated to the moon. Mondays are a fantastic day to boost your psychic abilities and to tune in to your intuition and empathy. It also gives you the opportunity to work with a different lunar phase each and every Monday, which means in one month you could work four different types of moon magicks on Mondays. How’s that for adding to your repertoire? You are going to have mad skills in no time at all.

So light up those lunar scented candles and add a little mystique to your outfit by wearing an enchanting lunar color. Wear your sparkling silver jewelry and maybe add a pair of dangling silver earrings or a pendant shaped like a crescent moon. Create lunar potions and philters; make a dream catcher and give it as a gift to someone you love. Burn some sandalwood or jasmine-scented incense today to inspire the glamour and magick of the moon. Slice up a favorite variety of fruit that is in season for a snack or share it with your love and enjoy his or her lunar and romantic qualities. Brew up a cup of chamomile tea, enchant it with a little moon magick, and relax and get a good night’s sleep.

Most importantly, get outside tonight and watch the moon for a while. What phase is she in? What color was the moon as she rose? Why not start a journal and write down at what location the moon rises and sets for a few seasons? This is a great way to teach you to tune in and to become more aware of the moon and the influence that she pulls into our lives. Try calling on Selene for her magickal assistance, and call Thoth for wisdom and strength. Get to know the Norse Mani and the Latvian Meness. These gods of the moon have plenty to teach, and if you allow their influence to cycle through your life, you’ll receive many blessings. Be imaginative, and create your own personal lunar magick and witchery. Go on….the moonlight becomes you.

Moon in Aries

We’re motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to start something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.

The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.

Done During the Full Moon

Fill your cauldron half full of water and drop a silver coin into it. Position the cauldron so that the light from the moon shines into the water. Gently sweep your hands just above the surface, symbolically gathering the Moon’s silver. While doing this say:

Lovely Lady of the Moon, bring to me your
wealth right soon. Fill my hands with silver and gold.
All you give, my purse can hold.”

Repeat this three times. When finished, pour the water upon the earth.

Timing at the Full Moon and up to 2 days after.

A sachet made out of green cloth maybe from an old bit of clothing you can cut up,
You can be lazy and just draw up the 4 corners and tie with some ribbon or glue or sew it, leave the head or top open

You need only THREE of these chamomile, rosemary, basil. cinnamon or ginger, pine needles. or use as many as you can lay hands on but 3 works just fine and all should not be too hard to get.

needle and thread

Directional elementals (earth salt on altar, incense for air, a lit candle fire, water a dish of rain or bottled water) Place on Altar- any small table or upturned box is fine.

Cast the Circle as follows “drawing it” with the index finger of your writing hand and invoke the Lord and Lady and ask their aid politely

Casting the Circle

As you walk deosil (clockwise) drawing it by visualization around the circle three times, imagine a green, soothing mist trailing from your index finger, enveloping you and enclosing your magic circle. Chant

“I conjure the magic circle
I am safe within the Goddess’ womb
A sacred place, a world apart
Where enchantment births and magic starts
With Air and Fire, Water and Earth
I circle round the Mother’s girth
This circle is sealed”

Drawing Down the Moon

Stand holding your athame, legs slightly apart, arms at your side. Breathe deeply. Raise the athame to your lips, holding it with both hands, and then point it toward the moon. Feel the energy of the moon move through the athame, down your arms and into your whole being.
Meditation and Chant to the Goddess Sit with your spine straight, legs crossed, hands in your lap. Close your eyes and visualize the Goddess, however she appears to you. Feel her arms around you in a protective embrace. When you have the vision firmly planted, begin chanting softly.

“Starry Goddess, Full of Light
I honor you this Full Moon Night”

Repeat, feeling your energy grow. This energy will be used during the following spellworking.

Cleanse and bless the sachet for workings of magic. Stuff it with at least 3 the herbs or more if you wish Sew the opening closed. Say:

“Goddess of Opportunity
Bring good things in life to me
I’ll be alert to all you send
Goddess be my helpful friend”

Repeat 3 times, envisioning the opportunities you wish to come to you.

Reverse Lunar Draw – Raise the athame to the moon, then bring it to your lips and back down to your side, releasing the energy you built during the Drawing. This sends out the spell to the universe Thank the Goddess and God for their aid.

Release the Circle Walk back around the circle, pulling the mist back into your hands.
Place the cachet in your closet, your car, your handbag or somewhere else close to you.
Ground self by putting palms against the earth or floor and eating or drinking.

You can re-work this spell at the next full moon if you feel it’s necessary. It is well worth the trouble of doing this one.

A Little Love Spell for a Full Moon

f you want to add an extra superhero to the mix try performing this spell on a Friday close to the full moon. Keep thoughts of love at the forefront of your mind from the time you begin– capture and hold the feelings of how good it feels.

What to do:

1. Anoint the candle with the Jasmine Oil (if you are using it)

2. Take the paper and pen and write a letter to your perfect mate (or current partner if you are boosting the love in your existing relationship) as though you’re writing in the future. Tell your partner or the person of your dreams everything that you love about them and the relationship. Write for as long as you feel the need.

3. Lay your finished letter on the table, put the candle on top of it (in a holder of course!).

4. Light the candle saying: This flame represents my burning desire; I summon the energies to draw to me a magical love.

5. Spend as long as you can meditating on that feeling of having love in your life.

6. When you’re done, fold up the paper and drizzle some wax on it to seal it.

7. Place the candle back on top of the envelope and allow the candle to burn out.

8. When the candle has burned out bury the wax remnants and tuck the letter in your book of shadows, or place in another location sacred to you.

9. Forget the spell and start taking action toward bringing love into your life – make romantic gestures with your partner, start dating or making the effort to socialise and mix with potential partners.

Wiccan Spells

Lady Luck Full Moon Spell

When the moon is full, simply chant these words:

Lady of luck come out tonight.

As the light of the moon shines above
In this light bless me with your luck.
Until the moon is next to be full

This works until the next full moon. If you say this every full moon you will keep your luck

Wiccan Spells

The full moon is expansive, nourishing, and energizing. Performing this spell will channel all that energy toward increasing your luck: your ability to irresistibly attract all wonderful things into your life experience. This includes (but is not limited to) money, love, happiness, and success.

A red rose
1/4 cup sea salt
A pint-sized mason jar with lid
A clear quartz crystal point, cleansed with sunshine, sage smoke, and/or running water
Patchouli or vetiver essential oil (or both)
Sunflower oil (from the baking aisle is fine)

Draw a warm bath, possibly by candlelight. Add the sea salt and the petals from the rose to the water. Stir with your hand in a clockwise direction until the salt is dissolved. Get into the bath and feel your personal magnetism being activated and enlivened. Imagine that you really and truly are the luckiest and most fortunate person you know. Feel extremely grateful for this, and imagine any conditions you’d like to attract as already being 100% present in your life experience.

Dry off and dress in something both comfortable and lovely. Sit comfortably in front of the remaining ingredients. Breathe deeply and center yourself. When you feel ready, place the crystal in the mason jar. Sprinkle it with cinnamon. Add 4-10 drops of essential oil. Cover all of it with the sunflower oil, filling the jar to around 3/4 full. Affix the lid and combine by shaking gently or lightly swirling in a clockwise direction. As you do so, say:

Radiant moon of luminous light,
Activate my luck this night.
Awaken me to the blessing each moment brings,
And make me a magnet to wonderful things.

Lightly anoint your forehead, throat, heart, and belly with the oil. Repeat the anointing process once per day until the next full moon.

Full Moon Spell for Empowering the Energy Centers

This spell is quick and simple. It only requires that you bring your intent and your belief to the spell. It is designed for the first energy center, or chakra, but can be modified to work for the others as well.

4 red candles
Matches or a lighter

When: A Friday night on the full moon

Place the four candles at the four cardinal directions. Starting at the north, move clockwise to light the candles. With each candle that you light, imagine your first center as a swirling orb of strong, pulsating energy that imbues your being with sexual charisma and power.

When you have finished lighting the candles, spend a few minutes in the center of your candle Circle, preferably in the lotus position. Inhale deeply several times, then exhale quickly, expelling all the air from your lungs. Pinch your right nostril shut, inhale through the left, and hold for a count of ten. Exhale through the right nostril. Repeat five times and switch sides.

As you do this alternate nostril breathing, imagine your first energy center imbued with power.
This spell can be repeated with each of the centers, using the appropriate colors. When you feel comfortable casting spells, you can create your own rhyme for each of the cardinal directions, to say when you light the candles.

Tonic waters containing the energies of the moon embody very powerful healing benefits that bring about integral balance and wholeness throughout the body, mind and soul. Clear quartz crystal catalyses the absorption of lunar energies as well as amplifies the healing benefits.

Wait for a clear night, preferably on or right before the full moon. Put your crystal in a clear glass and cover with one cup of purified water. Check an almanac for the exact time of sundown on the day you have chosen. At sundown, place the glass out of doors in a moonlit place (cover the glass with clear plastic wrap). Remove the glass at dawn. The water is now filled with lunar potency.

Drink the moon water every morning to prepare your body, mind and spirit for the stress of the day.

A Full Moon Lunar Potion

The power of the Moon can be utilized in many ways. Not sure where to start? Consider trying your hand at some easy to learn, yet challenging to master lunar potion making: you’ll gain a foundation of experience and understanding that will kick start your Moon magick. Here is a basic formula to get you started for the upcoming Full Moon. You can also consider adding herbs, oils or stones to personalize the recipe; just take care to use the potion only externally.

Here’s a versatile brew that can be used to create resources and reveal opportunities. Choose a symbol, sigil, or word to represent the thing you wish this potion to manifest. For example, if you want to manifest money, you might decide to use a dollar sign or a pentacle. Paint the symbol on the side of a clear glass jar while imagining the jar filled with the essence of your desire. Fill the jar with water and a handful of soil, then place it outside beneath a Full Moon. Gaze at the Moon and notice its expansive, creative energies. Ask these energies to enter and charge the water.

Sit quietly for thirteen minutes while the potion absorbs the moonlight. Swirl the jar clockwise thirteen times while visualizing the thing you wish to manifest, the fulfillment of your magickal goal.

Use this potion to charm objects and places related to your goal. For example, if you want to manifest a new car, you might anoint your key ring with a bit of this brew. If greater creativity in your artwork is what you crave, sprinkle a few drops of the potion on your studio or on your art supplies.

Moon Crystal Amulet

You can use any crystal or tumble stone thatyou like for this, go with your intuition and pick one that resonates with you and makes you feel a connection to the Moon.

If possible do this outside under the Moon or in a window where the moonlight shines in. Sprinkle your chosen crystal with salt and then waft it through incense smoke to cleanse and purify it. After that very carefully pass the crystal over a candle flame and finally sprinkle it with Full Moon water.

Charge the crystal with your intent; it might be for protection, strength or courage, using the power of the moonlight.

Carry it with you in a small pouch, pocket or purse
