Wicca Book of Days – Vennsian Vervain

The Wicca Book of Days for April 24th

Vennsian Vervain

The herb vervain shares its planetary governor (Venus) with this day. Indeed, the Romans named it Veneris herbs (Herb of Venus). Its oil is said to be an aphrodisiac (even when worn as an amulet in a miniature container), which is why vervain was carried by Roman brides and was once a vital ingredient in love philters. It is most often used today to banish feelings of anxiety, to stimulate the liver, and to increase breastfeeding mothers’ milk flow(note that it should be avoided in pregnancy, however).

Crystallize Violets

Crystallize Violets, Venus’s flowers, by cooking 1lb of sugar with 31/2 fl oz water until the mixture starts to harden. Add 5 oz freshly picked violets and stir gently over a high heat until the syrup dries around the flowers. Transfer to an airtight container and store until required for decoration.

I am spacious yet full of loving kindness, full of compassion, yet serene. I live like the strings of a fine instrument – not too taut but not too loose.

Today’s Thought for Tuesday, April 24th

To have compassion for the weakness we see in others, we must recognize and have compassion for the weakness within ourselves.

Open the Heart

This meditation open the anahata(heart) chakra, expanding our capacity for compassion.

  3. As you exhale visualize this light radiating from your heart into the world.

Special Kitty Of The Day for April 24th – Stuart

Name: Stuart
Age: Six and a half years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Cat
Home: Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
Hello everybody! My name is Stuart (Stuie) and I am a black bowtie boy-cat. Six and a half years ago I was in a cat enclosure in a pet store where my daddy went to get some supplies. When he came in, I knew he was my daddy ao I did my best to let him know that. How I did this was to flash my bowtie and climb the bars of my enclosure. It was love at first sight, so the very next day my Daddy and Mommy (his sister) took me to my furrever home. I couldn’t be happier with my purrents and my sister Phoebe! Sometimes I get joy overload and run around the apartment at top warp speed saying “rabble rabble rabble” until I end up at my scratching post and give it a good going-over. My sister thinks I’m weird, but hey, she’s my sister. I wrap my tail around my purrents when I want to hug them!Hi everyone – Stuart’s dad here and I must say what Stuie is telling you is quite accurate – it was definitely love at first sight for us both. Stuart is a very loving and funny boy. He loves to chase his laser beam and and be petted to his favourite song. He is an indoor cat but loves to chick at the hummingbirds that come to our feeder. He is very cuddly and jumps up for a love session and then settles down on our laps for a snooze, unless something more interesting is happening. He is such a happy boy, and gets such a soft expression on his face when he’s getting some love that it would just melt your heart! We are very lucky he picked us that good day!

Precious Pup of the Day for April 24 – Buddy

Name: Buddy
Age: Nine weeks old
Gender: Male Breed: Bichon Frise
Home: Ballston Lake, New York, USA
Buddy is a Bichon Frise puppy that is owned by Lindsey. He is very friendly and is playful. He loves to chase me around the yard and he is always exploring. He is a little bad, too, like when he chews on the kitchen chairs (Uh-Oh!!!). He is still a puppy, though. He is a cuddle bug and is the sweetest guy you will ever meet!!!He is a very cute and courageous guy and is not independent at all! If we let him out of the kitchen he will chew on a lot of stuff. But if you play with him he is the sweetest and most loving Bichon Frise in the world. He loves to go outside on the yard and he doesn’t even need a leash (yet) but he is an adorable guy and if you meet him, will love you forever!
