Hail, Green Man of the Spring!
Alder tree of the charcoal-burners,
Battle-witch of all woods,
Tree that is hottest in the fight,
Wood that surrounds and sweetens
All the quiet-eyed cow gives forth,
Wood no water can corrupt,
Blessed of Bran and his bridge,
Whistle-pipe that summons winds,

April Fool’s Day is celebrated on April 1st, and is the one day a year when everyone should keep their guard up. Anyone can become the target or someone’s pranks and tricks. But unlike in years past where pranks were typically of a “real world” nature, nowadays it’s becoming more common for people to use the Internet to play pranks on one another.
Find funny pictures on the Internet and send the links to your friends and co-workers. You can either email the links, or you can send them via an instant message. Ask someone to look at a “document” you’ve been working on by sending it to them as an attachment. What you put in the document is up to you, but it should be something slightly shocking (pretend divorce papers, a last will that includes you giving a fortune to the recipient of the email) Send links for Internet games to friends and co-workers. There are a number of different games that are designed to get those who play to relax, only to startle them with a scary image and a loud sound. Create a bogus web page that informs the people you send to it that they’ve won a contest–the bigger the prize the better. Have them fill out their information on a bogus entry form. Originally, New Year’s Day was April 1. Later, when the Church changed the calendar, they also changed the date for the first of the year. However, some people continued using April 1 as the date of the new year. These people were referred to as “April Fools”
OR In the early Roman calendar, April 1 was the first day of spring, the spring equinox, and before 154 B.C. it was New Years Day. Many celebrations of many cultures observed this day as the coming of the renewal of the earth and life. There would be sacrifices and gifts given to the gods. When the Christians came into power in the Roman empire, they created a celebration we call Easter that replaced the spring rituals. The old celebrations were ridiculed and made fun of. And people who observed these celebrations were persecuted. This was a chance to make fun of those who do not follow the correct beliefs. This is were we get April Fools Day, where we can make anyone feel foolish.
OR in 1564, King Charles IX decreed that with the adoption of the Gregorian calendar, New Year’s be moved to January 1 from what was April 1 and those that celebrated the Old New Year’s Day on April 1 were Fools.
North Americans play on this day with pranks and practical jokes. Springing tricks on family and friends, then shouting out “April Fools!” to the astonishment of the victim.
In France today, April first is called “Poisson d’Avril.” French children fool their friends by taping a paper fish to their friends’ backs. When the “young fool” discovers this trick, the prankster yells “Poisson d’Avril!” (April Fish!)
Some practical jokes are kept up the whole day before the victim realizes what has happened to them. Most April Fool jokes are in good fun and not meant to harm anyone. The most clever April Fool joke is the one where everyone laughs, especially the person upon whom the joke is played.

Replacing salt in the sugar bowl at breakfast.
Attaching a small piece of tape to the mouseball so it does not work.
Setting the alarm clock ahead one hour and allowing the victim to think they have slept in.

Mark tells me that he did this: A few years back, on April fools day, the sink in our house had a separate spray nozzle. I put a rubber band around the button that turned it on, and aimed it toward where someone would stand to use the sink. Pretty soon after, my mom was soaking wet!
Gregg says “Use print screen to take a snapshot of the desktop, go into paint and save the snapshot. Make the snapshot the background and hide all the icons & move start bar to top or side (and hide it) then watch your victim click on all the icons … “
Cindy P., says “on April fools I sewed my husbands fly shut on his underwear. Another year when I made my husbands sandwich for work I left the slice of cheese on the wrapper and then after I put the mayo on the bread I put tooth floss in with it.”
Hey Cindy, thanks for the pranks info… your poor husband, I feel sorry for the guy. Robrob8 has had one of those cheese slice still wrapped sandwiches, but the dental floss thing makes me gag just thinking about it. UGH!
Paul writes in: Tell someone that they have a little sticker on there back saying “Kick me” or “I’m gay”, or something like that. When you have done that they will keep looking on there back and trying to get the sticker off. It is f***ng hilarious.
Pranks sent in by Damien:
1. have a water pitcher filled with water, or what ever you want. any place a small piece of scotch tape over the spout. make sure its only one piece, because if you overlap it, it will be more visible.
result: when the user pours up a glass of water, they will spill it
chances: 90% depending on how you place the tape.
2. place stretch and seal over a door way, from top to bottom. You might need to use tape to keep it on better. make sure there are no wrinkles in it. remove wrinkles by pulling it the stretch and seal tighter. do NOT overlap the stretch and seal, overlapping will make it more visible. turn off the lights so there will be no glares of light on it. (best done in night) and make sure your on one side of the stretch and seal, and your victim is on the other. when this is all done, scream for help, and make it sound serious. when you FRIEND, comes running in, he will bring up in the stretch and seal. this was one hilarious prank. Just picture this! lol, you should see there faces when they brings up.
*You never know when something like this might come in handy. Always good to be prepared just in case, lol!*
So what can you do to avoid coming unglued as the result of an embarrassing April Fools’ Day prank? As the saying goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Rather than wait for a prank to occur, give yourself a stress inoculation prior to April Fools’ Day. By mentally preparing for a potential stressor or anger trigger, you will be ready to handle whatever comes your way.
So take some time before April 1st to imagine some worst-case scenarios regarding possible pranks and rehearse your response. Then step back and analyze how you appear. Are you comfortable with your reaction? Do you feel that your response will be well received by others? Will it result in greater understanding and empathy or might it make matters worse? If in doubt, now is the time to modify your response. Use this opportunity, while calm and relaxed, to prepare and practice how you will respond. Keep rehearsing and critically examining your own reaction until it feels right.
While your stress inoculation, if performed correctly, should prepare you well, there is always the chance of getting caught off-guard by an embarrassing practical joke. In such a case, the emotional part of your brain will likely activate before the thinking part does and put you at risk of overreacting and lashing out inappropriately. Thus, in the heat of the moment, you will be more apt to act on impulse than to think things through about the consequences of your actions. Although you may be completely justified in how you feel, it is imperative that you find a way to allow the thinking part of your brain to catch up to the emotional part. Otherwise you risk acting upon your aggressive impulses and possibly saying or doing something that you will later regret.
So the first thing that you need to do is to remove yourself from the situation and take a personal time-out. It is amazing what even just a few minutes can do to help clear your mind. Use your time wisely by working on your breathing and trying to modify your thoughts. Breathe deeply into your abdomen and then pause before exhaling. Repeat this several times and as your breathing slows, you will notice your mind and body beginning to relax.
Further relaxation can be achieved by replacing your angry thoughts or images with those that are peaceful and tranquil. Use your imagination and let it take you to a happier time in your life or a more peaceful setting. Allow yourself to relive a proud moment from your childhood or to visually experience the vacation of your dreams. Whether you are hitting the game-winning home run in little league or lying on the most beautiful beach in the world, it is extremely difficult to feel angry while feeling so at peace.
Another very powerful anger management technique is to change the inner conversation that you have with yourself (also known as self-talk). It is a very normal daily occurrence for people to have an inner dialogue that can either get them more worked up (i.e., “If he even looks at me the wrong way, I’m going to explode.”) or put them in a calmer frame of mind (i.e., “Relax. Stay calm. I can get through this.”). The words we say to ourselves are very powerful and can definitely influence how we feel and how we subsequently behave.
Even saying a phrase like “Serenity Now,” popularized by Frank Costanza on the classic sitcom Seinfeld, can actually have a positive impact on how you feel. Since our emotions are influenced by our thoughts, any words that can conjure up peaceful images can put us in a better emotional frame of mind. Thus by repeating a pleasant phrase or mantra, we can shift from feeling angry to feeling relaxed. The key is that relaxation and anger are incompatible emotions.
So whether it is April Fools’ Day coming up or you are planning to get together with your prankster buddies, give yourself a stress inoculation and don’t forget to bring your other anger control tools. After all, you never know when you might need them.
