Dream Tending Spell
Imbolc – Groundhog Day
Color of the Day: Brown
Incense of the Day: Sandalwood
This is a truly special day for Wiccans and some Witches. It is Imbolc, a high holiday that honors the triple Goddess Brigit and one of the eight Sabbats that mark the turning of the Wheel of the Year. Groundhog Day is also observed today. This holiday incorporates the seasonal divination of the more ancient Imbolc, which uses the movement of a snake rather than the shadow of a groundhog to divine how much longer winter will remain. It is the beginning of the Storm Moon and also the time of the Feast of Oya, the orisha of weather and changes. To the Iroquois people, it is Midwinter Ceremony, a time to bless the fields, tell your dreams, and pay tribute to your Ancestors. Today is also the birthday of Marie Laveau II, New Orleans’ Voodoo Queen and diviner extraordinaire. At bedtime now, light a braid of sweet grass. Extinguish the flame but allow the braid to smolder. Wave the braid lovingly and with great care around your bedroom, motioning with your hand to encourage the smoke to drift in a snake-like stream over your bed and pillow. Dip the braid in springwater, making absolutely sure no flame remains. Then put the braid away. Pour lavender water in a large bowl. Put your favorite seashell inside the bowl of water. As you sleep, the bowl will act as a conduit for messages from the Ancestors, nature spirits, and the great beyond. Place this under your bed or on your bed table. Replenish the water as needed over a period of two weeks. Write down your dreams in a journal. Read over them frequently. Messages revealed in the darkness of winter have special meaning. Work each day to lift the shroud of darkness so you can glimpse new growth and the coming light of spring. Understanding the mysteries of winter is at the heart of Imbolc and its celebration.

Dried Chamomile flowers
Egyptian Kyphi Incense
Wrap handfuls of uncooked oats and dried chamomile flowers, add a pinch of mandrake in a square of cheesecloth and filter a hot bath through it. Light some Egyptian Kyphi incense and bathe while deeply breathing the aromas. In bed, envisage yourself in a field of chamomile like Dorothy surrounded by poppies in the Wizard of Oa. Think of lying down in the fragrant daisies, lulled to sleep by their fresh, sweet smell. Beneath the ground, the underworld and above, in the blue sky Witches and rainbow-hued elementals fly by on unimaginable missions. You lie drowsing in the fragrant flowers, following one of the passers-by, then another tracing der
TO KEEP AWAY NIGHTMARES AND BRING PROPHETIC DREAMS
Stitch a small pillow of muslin of another light weight fabric.
create a pillow that is able to be opened by putting Velcro at one end.
This allows you to “refresh” the pillow from time to time with new herbs without having to
unstitch the end or make a new pillow. You may wish to cover muslin pillow with a light
weight, washable “casing” as well. Once you stitch the pillow together, fill with:
4 oz dried lavender flowers 4 oz dried sage
2 oz ground orris root-as a preservative-optional
4 oz deer’s tongue herb 2 oz cedar shavings
4 oz coltsfoot herb 4 oz sweet fern 2 oz violet
Keep dream pillow under or inside of your regular bed pillow. When storing your pillow each
morning you may either leave it where it is or put it inside of a plastic bad by your bed.
Storing it in the bag will help the herbs retain their freshness for a longer period of time.
DREAM PROTECTION SPELL
You Need: 1 tablespoon of lemon juice (or another fruit juice) 1 tablespoon of sea salt
1 teaspoon of vegetable oil 1 light weight cauldron (a glass bowl works too)
1 piece of paper 1 black pen 2 black or red candles (1 of each works best)
Mix the lemon juice, sea salt, and oil into your cauldron.
Place the cauldron in front of you on the floor.
Sit comfortably and place the candles beside the cauldron (red on left, black on right.)
Rip the piece of paper in half then set it aside.
Light both candles, left one first. Now close your eyes and visualize a sphere.
In the middle of the sphere, visualize yourself stuck inside, trying to get out.
See the black and red candles burning around you. Watch as the candles spin around you,
getting faster each time they pass. Then see yourself magickally being released.
On one piece of paper, draw a picture of what you saw. On the other, write down your biggest fear.
Light both pieces of paper on fire, using the black for the written half, red for the drawing.
Then throw them into your cauldron.
Take the cauldron outside and pour it (paper and all) into a hole in the ground.
Cover the hole with dirt. The spell is done.
